Olivia's POV
As the last person walked out of the studio I finally got to sit down— or more so, fall into the floor. I usually don't get as tired as today, but the teenagers class have a recital coming up so it takes more out of me than the normal classes or the children classes.
"Damn you look battered." I heard Vivianna's voice before I turned to see her walk in with Chris by her side.
"I didn't want to be the one to say it." Chris commented.
I grabbed my water bottle and downed half of it in a single go. "You two are so flattering."
"Don't take it to seriously Liv, we were just making an observation of your current physical state." Vivianna said and sipped on what I think might be coffee.
"Donut?" Chris offered but I passed with a shook of my head.
"More for me." She shrugged and took a bite out of one of the mini donuts inside her small box.
Vivianna came to sit down on the floor besides me. "What got you so tired? You are usually fine after classes."
I swept off the sweat on my face and neck with a towel, putting it then around my shoulders. Chris sat at the other side of me, while she divided her attention between her food at hand and the conversation I was having with Vivianna. "I had class with the teens and they have a recital coming up so... it was tiring. How about you two? How was work?"
Vivianna leaned in and tried to take a donut out of the box but was met with a swat on her hand by Chris—who was quickly shut down with a glare from our best friend before grabbing one. "It was fine, Chris got asked into a date by CEO's assistant, Lana." She announced as if it was not a big deal.
"You have a date?" The surprise in my tone was very evident but Chris remained unbothered by it. In fact she didn't look happy or sad... or anything really, which kind of worried me since she's very expressive.
"Is not a big deal, she asked me out and I don't really have anything else to do—so why not? Besides I haven't had sex in a while." She took a bite of her last donut and put the now empty box aside on the floor.
"You don't sound excited about it." I said.
"I mean— she's hot and nice, but I don't really see me in relationship with her." Chris leaned her back against the wall and looked at the both of us.
"You can't knock it without trying it — give it a chance before deciding." Vivianna reasoned, but by the look on the blonde's face we both knee she had her stubborn mind made up.
"Yeah whatever enough about me. Hows your relationship going, Liv? You've abandoned me in our single life partnership, it breaks my heart, not gonna lie." Chris pouted and leaned her head against my shoulder, not bothered by me being sweaty.
I chuckled and Vivianna nudged my side lightly, "Do tell Olivia, how are things going with the sexy firefighter."
"You know you have a firefighter boyfriend right?"
"That is not the point of my question—now go ahead and answer the actual question please." Vivianna kept pressing me.
I sighed knowing there was no way out of the questioning I was about to receive from my best friends. Not that I minded, but there is not much to tell in truth. "We are doing fine, she has been busy with work so we haven't seen each other much—but we still text each other every night."
"That's it?" Chris lifted her head from my shoulder so she could look at me—a frown in her face.
"Yes?"
"What do you two even talk about?" Vivianna was the one to ask.
"We— about our day? I don't see how this is any of your business guys." I rolled my eyes—I didn't want to seem rude but I didn't want to be questioned right now either.
"Sorry I'm just curious, Jordan seems like such a... recluse and closed off person. You can see all the walls she has built around herself — I'm not complaining though, everyone has a reason to be how they are." Vivianna explained herself, and she was absolutely right in every thing she just said.
Trying to get through Jordan —even with the fact that she is herself working on opening up to me— has been hard. I can't imagine how much harder it is for her while all I can do is wait.
"She is... all those things. I don't know why yet, but I'm trusting that we'll get there at some point." I responded.
"You don't know? What do you know about her then?" This time it was Chris to speak up.
What do I know about Jordan?
I couldn't answer for several seconds, trying to remember all of our meaningful conversations. I knew that it taking me such a while wasn't a good sign, but I needed to find anything to say... and to my luck I did. "I know her birthday and zodiac sign."
"Oh you know the most basic information one can know about the person you are dating." Vivianna spoke with sarcasm making Chris laugh.
"To be fair we are not really dating yet." I corrected. After all we had decided to take things slowly before jumping right into it.
"Right... do you know where she is from?" Vivianna asked.
"Oh wait I know that, she moved from Atlanta." I remember that was one of the first things Jordan told me about herself on our first meet up.
"Are her parents alive?" Chris asked.
"I don't know she never mentions them."
"Any siblings?" Vivianna asked.
"I don't know."
"Has she been in jail?" Of course it had to be Chris to ask such a question.
"Why would I ask that?"
"Any ex girlfriends?" Vivianna's question this time did make me stop and think. That was enough sign for my friends to know something was up.
Chris raised her brows, "Oh so you do know something about that one."
I was hesitating to respond to that, it had been such a long time since then... but it remained at the back of my head ever since. "I'm not sure if that's it, is just— there was this time when I was taking care of Jordan while she was sick and she... mention this woman's name in her fever deliriums."
"A woman's name?" Vivianna asked with evident shock on her face, as well in Chris's.
"What was the name?" Chris asked.
"Does it even matter?"
"I'm curious." Chris shrugged. I turned my attention back to the brunette to answer her question.
"Yes, she repeated it a few times, more like mumbled it. I never had the courage to ask her about it." I grimaced and hoped they would leave the subject there... wishful thinking.
"She mumbled a woman's name who could or could not be her ex girlfriend's and you never thought of asking. Nice one Liv." Chris said earning a slap on the head by Vivianna.
"Can you not be an ass for a second?" Viv directed to the blonde before turning to look at me again. "What she meant was, since you two are trying to start a relationship, maybe that's something that you need to bring up."
"I understand that and I will... eventually." I saw as the two of them shook their heads in disappointment, which, didn't piss me off, but did annoy me a bit. "Okay enough, I know Jordan and because I do, I know that I can't corner her with personal questions. She will just shut me out again— just stop with the interrogation. You two were the first ones to push me to pursue something else with her and as happy as I am that you did, you need to back off a bit."
I watched as Vivianna and Chris interchanged looks—the blonde sighed and surprised me by being the one to speak first. "We just care about you Olivia, that's all."
"Yeah, sorry if it seemed like too much." Vivianna agreed.
"I know you were just worried about me. I get that." I gave them both a sincere smile, which they returned.
"We should get out of here and go for something to eat." Chris proposed, finally changing the subject.
"There's this amazing sushi bar, like three blocks from here." Vivianna suggested.
I stood up from the floor and helped each of them to as well. "I would love to, but first I need to go home and shower."
"My apartment is the closest, you could shower there and then we could go. Should we invite Dalton and Jordan?" Chris said.
"That sounds like a good idea." I accepted—all of us have clothes in each of our apartments from all the many we spent at the other's places.
"And no, they are working till late today, so it will be just us." Vivianna mentioned.
Chris put her arms around the two of us and kissed our cheeks as we walked to the door of the studio, "It will be a best friends date. Like old times. I like it."
