Chapter 158 - Christmas Eve

By RStoriesz

It is now about an hour later, and Kara, Lena and Alura have got everything set up for their Christmas Eve, the only thing they are waiting on now is for everyone to arrive. Over the last hour, Kara and Lena haven't had a chance to talk about the letter Lena got from Lillian, simply because neither of them want to talk about it in front of their daughter, but at the same time, Kara and Lena do want to talk about it before everyone arrives for the afternoon/evening.

"Alura?" Kara says, with the trio currently being downstairs in their living room area.

"Yes, mommy?" Alura replies, sweetly.

"Why don't you go upstairs and decide the board games you want us to play this evening? Bring like, 4 or 5 down." Kara suggests, although her intentions are purely just to have Alura out of earshot so she can talk with Lena.

"Yes! Okay!" Alura says, excitedly, and then goes running down the hallway, heading for the stairs.

"No running!" Lena calls out.

Thankfully, both Lena and Kara hear Alura walk up the stairs, with the 5-year-old clearly actually listening to Lena.

"Where's the letter?" Kara asks, looking at Lena.

"Here." Lena says, picking up the letter which she placed back in the envelope and left on the coffee table in the living room, and hands it to Kara.

"Can I read it?" Kara asks, just to be sure.

"Yeah." Lena nods, sounding a bit nervous, simply from thinking about Lillian, and everything she said in the letter again.

"Okay." Kara nods, "I don't know how much time we'll have, so I'll read it quickly with my powers."

Lena simply nods back at Kara again.

Kara then proceeds to speed read the letter over the next 30 seconds, taking everything in, while also making sure not to damage the paper the letter is hand written on when she swaps between the two pages.

"Okay..." Kara says, once she finishes reading, taking a deep breath.

"You read it all?" Lena asks.

"Yeah." Kara nods back, "I uhh..... I don't know what to say really.... It's a bit worrying that Leviathan are doing something with kryptonite and everything.... and preparing to go to battle with me... or us.... But I know that's not what you want to talk about."

"I mean.... I do..." Lena replies, awkwardly, "But from the sounds of things, a threat from Leviathan isn't imminent."

"Yeah." Kara nods, agreeing with Lena, "So.... how do you feel about everything?"

Lena takes a deep breath to gather her emotions.

"Honestly, I'm feeling a bunch of different emotions right now. I'm still worried for Lillian, but I'm also relieved to know that she's actually alive and safe." Lena replies, "Although.... reading that letter did make me realise just how well Lillian knows me... because as soon as she mentioned that she's in South America, I did want to drop everything and fly out there to look for her."

Kara smiles widely upon hearing Lena say that.

"Yeah... but I agree with Lillian. It's better for you, and her, if you don't do that." Kara says.

"I know." Lena nods.

There is then a silence between Kara and Lena, as neither of the two women know what to say next. Kara eventually decides to fill the silence.

"I know this obviously has brought up a lot of emotions for you. But you should just enjoy Christmas, like Lillian suggested you should." Kara says, "You can take solace that Lillian is okay for now, and you might even get another letter from her eventually. There will be time for all these worries and concerns some other time. I think for these next few days, at least, we just need to turn everything else off, and have a break from it all. Although I know that will be hard for you to do, and I don't expect you to just not worry about Lillian at all. I just.... think you should try and relax a little bit."

Lena looks into Kara's eyes for a few moments, thinking about how much she loves the blonde, and eventually nods her head.

"Yeah... okay." Lena says.

Kara breaks out into a smile, and then takes Lena in for a loving kiss. The two fiancés continue to kiss for the next few minutes, although the kiss isn't a hot and heavy one, more so a tender and loving one. However, eventually the two are interrupted by Alura returning, with a bunch of board games in her arms.

"Did you just send me upstairs so you could kiss?" Alura asks, with a pout.

Kara and Lena part from their kiss, and then chuckle at their daughter.

"Of course not, darling." Lena smiles.

"Yeah, come here." Kara gestures.

Alura quickly places the board games on the coffee table, and then jumps in between her two mothers on the couch. Lena and Kara then each kiss Alura on one of her cheeks, causing the young girl to smile widely.

"There." Lena says, with a smile, backing away from the kiss, "Now you have had your kisses too."

"Yep. You can't complain now." Kara adds, with a smirk.

"I love you mommy. I love you momma." Alura says, looking between her two parents.

"And we love you." Lena smiles back, lovingly.

"Yeah. So much." Kara replies, with just as much of a loving smile as Lena.

Lori continues to smile happily for the next few moments, while Kara and Lena match their daughter's smile. Eventually though, time passes by, and Kara knows she needs to leave to pick up Eliza.

"Alright." Kara says, standing up, "I think I should head out now to go pick up Eliza."

"Can I come?" Alura asks.

Kara chuckles.

"I can't fly with both you and Eliza. Sorry." Kara says.

"You mean, you can't fly with Alura at all, because she's too young." Lena corrects, in a firm voice.

"Uhhh.... yeah.... I meant that..." Kara replies, in a flustered voice.

Lena simply shakes her head, recognising that Kara would quite happily fly with Alura if she could.

"Don't worry, though, darling. Mommy will be back with grandma very quickly, and while we wait, the two of us can spend some time together." Lena says, with a loving smile.

"Okay." Alura replies, looking at Lena with a smile.

"Great." Kara says, and then changes into her Supergirl suit almost instantaneously, not wanting someone to see her flying in her normal clothes, "I'll be back as quickly as I can. I can't fly as fast as I usually do while I'm carrying Eliza."

"Okay. See you in a bit." Lena smiles.

Kara smiles at Lena and Alura, and then nods her head, before taking off, flying out of their balcony attached to the living room. Lena and Alura simply watch Kara fly away, and then Lena gets up to close the balcony doors, as it's a tad cold.

"Momma?" Alura asks.

"Yes, darling?" Lena replies.

"Can Ruby and I go swimming today?" Alura asks.

"Uhhh..... I don't see why not, as long as Ruby is up for it. Although you'll have to do it before we eat our dinner. I don't want you eating food and then going swimming, as it could make you both throw up." Lena says.

"Yes. Okay." Alura smiles back, "Thank you, momma."

"You're welcome, darling." Lena says, with a smile, but then a few moments later her smile drops, as she gets a thought in her brain.

Over the next few moments, Lena looks at Alura, being so happy and everything, and the CEO doesn't want to worry, but she knows she will have to talk to Alura about a certain subject before tomorrow, and the sooner they discuss it, the better it will probably be.

"Alura?" Lena says.

"Yes, momma?" Alura replies.

"Can we talk about something for a bit?" Lena asks.

"Okay." Alura nods, with a bit of a confused look on her face.

Lena takes a seat on the couch again, next to Alura once more.

"So.... I wanted to talk to you about who will be coming here for Christmas day." Lena begins.

"Santa?" Alura says, cutely.

Lena chuckles.

"No. I mean the guests that will be coming here to spend Christmas day with us." Lena clarifies.

"Oh.... I already know." Alura says, with a confident nod.

"Yes.... sort of...... Mommy and I have told you that obviously Sam, Alex, Ruby and Eliza will be spending the day with us, because they will be sleeping here tonight, and then tomorrow, Winn, Jess and J'onn will be coming too. However, we haven't told you that J'onn will be bringing someone with him." Lena explains.

"A girlfriend?" Alura asks, intrigued.

Lena can't help but chuckle again.

"No...." Lena replies, and then pauses, "So..... you know how I told you that the..... shadow woman that attacked us a few months ago.... and you used your laser vision on.... is my birth mother?"

"Yeah...." Alura replies, in a confused voice.

"Well.... I have been spending more time with her recently, at the DEO, and some bad people did things to her that messed with her mind, and made her do the things she did. She is much better now.... and I've invited her to come here for Christmas." Lena says.

Alura's eyes widen straight away, as soon as Lena says that.

"Look..." Lena begins, placing a comforting hand on one of Alura's arms, "I know you might have some.... feelings about it.... and might be a little scared.... But I promise... my mom won't do anything to you... or anyone..... she isn't that person who attacked us.... That's not the real her..... and all the time she's here, all of us will be here too. But.... if you do get too uncomfortable with my mom being here..... you can tell me.... and.... I'll ask here to leave..... Your comfort tomorrow is more important to me than anything else."

After Lena finishes speaking, Alura remains silent for a while.

"Do I have to speak to her?" Alura eventually asks.

"No. You don't have to do anything you don't want to." Lena says.

"Okay." Alura nods.

Lena breathes a sigh of relief after Alura says that. Lena is well aware that bringing her mom for Christmas could cause a big issue, not only for Alura, but Alex too, so she's a bit on edge about it all. However, Kara has been the one that has encouraged her to do it, with the blonde pointing out that the two of them (Lena and Lena's mom), have missed so many Christmases together over the last 2 decades, they shouldn't miss anymore when they can actually do something about it.

"Thank you, darling." Lena says, taking her daughter in for a hug, "And again.... if at any point my mom's presence makes you feel uncomfortable or nervous or anything, you can let either mommy or I know, and then we'll sort everything out."

"I will." Alura nods again, this time with a smile as she hugs Lena's side.

After this, for the next few minutes Lena and Alura continue to sit on the couch, having some nice one on one time together. Lena very much enjoys this, because it isn't that often that she and Alura get to spend any quality time together just the two of them, as usually Kara is always there with them. Of course, that is not a bad thing, but Lena still relishes the chance to just spend some alone time with her daughter, even if all they are doing is sitting next to one another, cuddling on the couch.

About 10 minutes later, Kara lands back on the balcony, placing Eliza on the ground with her. Alura immediately turns her head to look out onto the balcony as soon as the mother and adopted daughter land.

"Grandma's here." Lena says, with a smile.

Alura quickly jumps off of the couch, and Kara then opens the balcony door, and she and Eliza begin to walk into the penthouse.

"GRANDMA!!!!!!!" Alura says, excitedly, running towards Eliza and taking her in for a hug around her legs.

"Hello, Alura." Eliza smiles, happily, picking the 5-year-old up into her arms and taking her in for a big hug. "How have you been?"

"Good. I've missed you." Alura says.

"I've missed you too." Eliza says, placing a kiss on one of Alura's cheeks, "But we'll get to spend the next few days together, and I'll be staying here the whole time. So, that will be nice."

"Yeah." Alura nods.

A few moments later, Eliza places Alura back onto the ground, and Lena then walks over to her future mother-in-law.

"Hello, Eliza." Lena smiles.

"Hello, Lena, dear." Eliza smiles back, and then takes the brunette in for a hug, "How have you been doing with everything?"

"Uhhh... okay...." Lena replies, glancing towards Alura, not wanting to talk about all her worries and everything to Eliza in front of her daughter.

Kara notices Lena's hesitance, and thinks it might be a good idea for Lena to talk with Eliza about all her worries, as Kara has always found that Eliza is extremely helpful in situations like this. So, Kara comes up with an idea to let Lena and Eliza talk privately.

"Lee, why don't you show Eliza to her room while Alura and I go down to the swimming pool, to check that everything is okay and running smoothly for when the girls want to swim later?" Kara suggests.

"Yeah.... okay..." Lena nods back, with a small smile.

"Come on, Alura." Kara says, holding out her hand.

"I want to stay with grandma!" Alura moans, with a pout.

"You can come back and see me in a few minutes. Go keep mommy company for a little while, please?" Eliza says, in such a sweet and caring voice.

Alura doesn't speak for a few moments, but eventually she nods her head.

"Okay." Alura says.

"Thank you, sweetie." Eliza says, and crouches down to place another kiss on one of Alura's cheeks.

Alura takes Kara's hand, and the mother and daughter then make their way out of the living room/kitchen open plan area, and downstairs to the pool.

"I'll show you your room." Lena says.

"Sure." Eliza smiles.

Lena then begins to lead Eliza upstairs, who is carrying a few small bags. Eliza doesn't currently have any of the presents she has bought for everyone with her, as they have already planned for Kara to quickly go and pick them up from Midvale tomorrow. Of course, Eliza has always had to wrap Kara's presents in special lead lined paper, as otherwise her daughter will look inside, even now when she's and adult. Then, in turn, while Kara and Alex were kids, Eliza also had to wrap Alex's presents in the same special paper, as her oldest daughter would just convince Kara to look inside her presents for her, and tell her what they were.

"So, how are you really doing, Lena?" Eliza asks, as the two walk onto the second floor of the penthouse, "Kara didn't tell me much, but she said that you got a letter from Lillian today?"

Lena sighs as soon as Eliza says this.

"Yeah.... I did." Lena says, as she continues to lead Eliza down the hallway, and finally into the bedroom where the Danvers matriarch will be sleeping, "She basically just told me that she's okay and everything, and has been working with Leviathan to attempt to undermine them, to take them down from within, or at least weaken them when they do eventually begin the fight between Kara and us all..... She said that she'd been working on some red kryptonite for them... but she made sure it was flawed.... and won't really work.... Now... after that.... she has been placed in South America.... as the head of some sort of Leviathan operation that is looking for more artifacts that Leviathan thinks could give their agents other powers... like the shadow women..."

Eliza nods her head at Lena saying that, taking it all in.

"That all sounds..... like a lot.... but I'm sure Lillian is capable of doing all of that, and staying safe...." Eliza replies.

"Hopefully." Lena says, but in an unsure voice.

"But that isn't what I was asking you, Lena. I asked how are YOU doing." Eliza says.

Lena turns and looks Eliza in the eyes for a few moments.

"I uhmmmm..... I don't know really." Lena eventually admits.

In response, Eliza quickly takes Lena in for a hug, and as soon as the Danvers matriarch does this, Lena begins to softly cry.

"It's okay, Lena." Eliza says, as she continues to hug the brunette, and rub circles on her back in a comforting fashion, "I know that to you words like these might seem hollow, and formulaic, but I'm sure everything will be okay. And we are all here for you, to support you through this all, remember that."

Lena nods her head into Eliza's embrace, not being able to respond with words right now.

Lena and Eliza continue to hug for the next few minutes, but eventually they do part. Once they do, Eliza pulls out a tissue from one of her pockets and hands it to Lena, in a very motherly way. Lena can't help but feel so cared for and loved by the Danvers' mother, which in turn makes her feel a tad overwhelmed, because she's only known Eliza a year, and isn't even her daughter, yet.

"It's going to be okay, Lena." Eliza says again, stroking one of Lena's arms.

"Th.... thank you..." Lena replies, as she uses the tissue to dry her eyes.

"You never have to thank me, dear. I'm here for you. You'll be my daughter soon, so I am very much concerned with your emotional wellbeing and happiness." Eliza replies, in a loving voice.

Lena breaks out into a small smile at Eliza saying that, all while she continues to wipe her eyes, and then blow her nose.

"Anyway.... onto better topics.... I hear from Kara that your mom will be joining us for Christmas tomorrow?" Eliza asks.

"Yeah." Lena nods, "J'onn has agreed to bring her from the DEO with him tomorrow, as she and Alex don't believe she is a threat anymore. She has most of her memories back now, and doesn't have her powers."

"That's good." Eliza nods, "But Alex has told me that she still doesn't have her memories of what she went through when she began working for Leviathan and faked her death?"

"Yeah." Lena nods again, "She has bits and pieces now about spending time with me when I was young. She remembers giving birth to me and everything, and a few moments over the next 4 years after that, but she doesn't remember the specifics around how or why she faked her death, and began working for/with Leviathan. The doctors believe that the reason for that might be because it was, and still is, a very traumatic event for her, so her brain simply just does not want to remember it, or deal with it."

"Yes.... that makes sense." Eliza replies, "Of course I'm no expert on brain trauma or anything, but I have read a few papers on the subject in my day. Emotionally destressing and traumatising events can be the hardest, and most difficult, memories for amnesia patients to remember. There is a suggestion that perhaps their subconscious just does not want to remember. But I hear that at least you know what happen with your mom, and why she faked her death and everything?"

"Yeah. I do." Lena says back, "She did it all to protect me, essentially."

"Well.... I'm glad that at least you got some answers about that." Eliza says, with a small smile, "I know for a while there, ever since you found out that your mom is alive, it must have been absolutely killing you not to know why she faked her death and everything. So, I'm glad you have some closure on that."

"Me too." Lena nods.

Eliza simply smiles at Lena after the CEO says that.

**************************************

It is now a few hours later, and Alex, Ruby and Sam have all arrived for the evening, to spend the night, and Christmas day with Kara, Lena, Alura and Eliza, in Kara and Lena's penthouse. Already, Kara and Lena have set Alex, Sam and Ruby up in their rooms, and now the whole group are back down in the living room, chatting away, and having a good time with one another.

"Momma?" Alura says, walking up to Lena with a pout on her face, who is currently talking with Sam and Alex.

"Yes, darling?" Lena replies, turning to look down at her daughter.

"I'm hungry. Can we have food now?" Alura asks, with another pout.

Alex, Sam and Lena all break out into chuckles at Alura asking that.

"Of course we can, darling. We just need to decide what we want to order." Lena says.

"Pizza!" Alura quickly exclaims.

Lena chuckles again.

"We need to discuss it as a group, and decide what everyone would like." Lena clarifies.

"Oh... okay." Alura nods back.

Over the next few minutes, the entire group discuss what they would like for dinner, with there being a few arguments back and forth between the adults. However, ultimately, they all decide that they will order Chinese, with extra extra extra servings of potstickers for Kara and Alura, who both eat them as if they are a drug they're addicted to.

"Alright. Chinese it is then." Lena announces, and then makes the order on her phone over the next few minutes, "It says it will be here within the next 45 minutes."

"That's forever!" Alura pouts, "I'm hungry now."

The adults all chuckle at that.

"How about to distract yourself from being hungry, you invite Ruby to go swimming with you?" Kara suggests.

Alura's eyes light up at this suggestion from Kara.

"Okay." Alura nods, and then quickly runs over to Ruby, "Ruby?"

"Yeah?" The 13-year-old replies.

"Do you want to go swimming with me?" Alura asks, sweetly.

"Yeah. Let's do it." Ruby smiles back, "Mom had me bring a swimsuit, just in case."

Alura breaks out into a massive smile at Ruby agreeing to go swimming with her.

After this, over the next 30 minutes, Alura and Ruby go swimming in Kara and Lena's pool downstairs, with the adults all joining them to watch, and keep an eye on the kids. None of the adults go in the pool though, because they don't really want to go through the process of having to dry off and get dressed again, and have all chlorine in their hair and everything.

"Oooo.... The food's here." Lena eventually announces, looking at an alert on her phone she has got from the lobby.

"Great!" Kara smiles happily.

"Why don't you and Alex get Ruby and Alura out of the pool, while Lena, Eliza and I all go get the food and set it up?" Sam suggests to Kara.

"Sure." Kara smiles.

Eliza, Lena and Sam all leave the swimming pool, and head back upstairs. Kara then walks further down the swimming pool, to where Alex is currently standing, talking to Alura and Ruby who are still in the pool, about halfway down it.

"Where did the others go?" Alex asks, as soon as Kara gets to her side.

"The food's here. They went to get it while you and I get the kids out of the pool." Kara explains.

"Ah, okay." Alex nods, and then turns her attention back to Ruby and Alura, "Guys, you need to get out of the pool now. The food is here!"

"Okay!" Ruby shouts back.

Alura and Ruby then swim over to the edge of the pool, by Alex and Kara.

"Help me out?" Ruby asks, holding up her hand to Alex.

"Sure." Alex smiles.

Alex then proceeds to bend down a bit, holding out her hand for Ruby to take, which the 13-year-old does. However, as Alex does this, the bad side of Kara's brain gets an idea, and before she can stop herself, she pushes Alex into the pool.

"KARA!!" Alex yells, angrily, as she splashes into the pool, and soon goes under.

A few moments later, Alex comes to the surface, now, obviously, being completely wet, in her normal clothes as well. Alura, Ruby and Kara meanwhile have all broken out into fits of laughter.

"I'M GOING TO KILL YOU!!" Alex yells at Kara, angrily.

Kara simply smiles at Alex mischievously in response.
