Happy Birthday!

"I can't believe you invited him to your party!" Adaline cried as she sat in the passenger seat of Maddy's car.
"What do you mean? He's literally your boyfriend."
The girl sighed knowing it was her fault that Maddy didn't know what was going on. She hadn't told anyone about Nate cheating on her. Adaline was honestly embarrassed by it.
"We're not really together at the moment." The brunette mumbled looking out the window.
"Wait? Seriously?"
"I broke up with him."
"Why?"
"He cheated on me." She answered trying not to cry.
"That dumb fucking bitch!" Maddy screamed hitting the steering wheel. "I'm going to kill him!"
"I can't believe this is happening." Adaline was freaking out. She didn't want Nate to come to Maddy's party. She knew he was just going to use it as an excuse to try and win her back. But she wasn't ready to forgive him.
"It's fine Addie. I'll just disinvite his ass."
"Good luck with that. You know how Nate is. He's not going to listen to you."
"Even if he shows up all you have to do is pretend he doesn't exist." Maddy suggested. "If you ignore him he'll eventually give up."
"I hope you're right." She mumbled exiting Maddy's car.
The two teenagers entered the mall excitedly chatting about what they wanted to wear and how fun tomorrow was going to be. They were both unaware of the pair of eyes watching their every move.
Nate knew he probably shouldn't have followed them but he couldn't help it. He needed to make sure Adaline and his baby were safe. He didn't need anything happening to her when he wasn't around especially.
"I can't believe Suze is actually letting you have the party at her house." Adaline laughed searching through the clothing rack for something to wear.
"I know." Maddy smiled dreamily. "She's literally the best. I wish she was my mom."
"Do you think there's going to be any drama?"
"No Addie. I think you're just paranoid." Maddy shook her head.
"I can't help it." The girl sighed. "I just have a bad feeling."
"Well keep your bad feeling to yourself." The Perez girl instructed. "We're going to get shitfaced and dance the night away. It's going to be fun and you're not going to ruin it with your paranoia."
"Okay. I'll stop." Adaline nodded. "But you do realize I can't get drunk with you right?"
"Shit you're right." Maddy cursed glancing down at the girl's stomach. "I guess I'll just have to drink enough for the both of us."
"This weekend is going to be interesting."
Unfortunately for Nate he didn't have a chance to talk to Adaline after her shopping trip with Maddy. Instead of coming straight home she instead decided to sleep over at Maddy's. This way the girls could get ready and then head to the Howard's house together.
It was right before the party when Nate was getting ready to head to the Howard house. He didn't love the idea of going there because he knew Cassie would be there but he had to remember why he was going in the first place. He needed to get Adaline back.
Nate sat down to write out a short but sweet card for Maddy. He then put the card into the small Tiffany's bag. Was his gift expensive? Yes. But he knew Maddy would appreciate it. Hopefully by him trying to get back in the Perez girl's good graces he'd also get back into Adaline's.
"C'mon, let's dance." Maddy begged grabbing onto Kat's arm. When Kat wouldn't get up Maddy could tell something was bothering her so she led her away from everyone else.
Adaline was too busy dancing with Lexi and Suze to notice her two dark haired friends walking away. But the Kingston girl did hear Cassie talking to BB.
"Do you think Nate's still coming over?" The blonde quietly asked glancing up at her pregnant friend.
"Um, yeah, that's what Maddy says." BB shrugged hitting her vape.
Why is she so worried about whether or not Nate's coming?
When Kat and Maddy rejoined the group Cassie decided it was time to sing happy birthday to Maddy.
After cake everyone gave Maddy her birthday gifts. Adaline had gotten Maddy a reservation at super fancy spa. The reservation was for a full body massage and a facial.
Adaline's gift wasn't nearly as thoughtful as Cassie's. It almost made her feel a like she wasn't a good friend because she didn't get her something sentimental.
"I love it." Maddy said wiping her tears.
"It's super cute Cas." Adaline smiled at the blonde who also had tears falling down her cheeks.
"Thanks guys." Maddy smiled at everyone around her as she closed the photo album. "I love you all so fucking much."
"And we love you bitch!" BB cheered holding up her drink.
The brunette was eating her second slice of cake when the front door rang. She knew there could only be one person on the other side of that door.
Before anyone else could even think of getting the door Cassie had already beaten them to it.
"Hi." Cassie smiled hopefully looking up at Nate.
"Are Adaline and Maddy here?"
"Yeah." She mumbled moving out of his way.
Maddy was the first to greet Nate. She was waiting for Adaline to get up but when she didn't she took matters into her own hands.
"Hey! Happy birthday!" The Jacobs boy smiled.
She brought Nate in for a hug only to harshly grip onto his forearms. While still hugging him she lowly whispered in his ear. "You better have a plan to win her back."
"I'm trying." "Nate responded.
"Good."
"Oh yeah this is for you." Nate announced handing Maddy the Tiffany's bag. "I hope you like it."
Everyone was gathered around the pair watching as Maddy opened the bag. While some watched with curious eyes others watched with jealousy.
Cassie was seething. She didn't understand how Adaline wasn't feeling the same was as her. She couldn't understand why Nate was here for Maddy.
"Holy shit!" Maddy exclaimed taking the diamond necklace out of the packaging. "It's beautiful!"
"You did good, big fella." Suze laughed patting Nate on the back.
The Jacobs boy blushed looking down with a small smile. His gift may have impressed the others but the only one that mattered was Adaline. He was praying that she could see he was trying to make amends with not only her but her friends too.
Maddy was so happy with Nate's gift. She had to go and show it off to Kat and Cassie. Which left Adaline and Nate awkwardly standing in the entryway of the Jacobs home.
"Are you having fun?" The boy questioned trying to start a conversation with his girlfriend or now ex.
"Yeah." Adaline nodded. "It was nice just hanging out with the girls."
Nate sighed knowing she was hinting that she didn't want him there. Adaline and Nate held eye contact for a few moments just intensely staring at each other. There was so much they wanted to say but they couldn't find the words or courage to speak up.
Cassie noticed that the two were alone talking and got even more annoyed than she already was. She stalked into the kitchen and grabbed a bottle of vodka before heading upstairs to her and Lexi's shared bathroom.
It was in the bathroom that Cassie got the bright idea to put on her new hot pink swimsuit. If Nate didn't want her then she'd show him what he was missing.
