CHAPTER 61: Getting her back. <33
"WHAT?"
Ji-Yeong thought Sae Byeok didn't got what she said, "oh... That? That was nothing, just some... Hiccups?"
"Why does Y/n have five jobs, Ji-Yeong? Fuck and I thought she only had two." Sae Byeok whispered, "Look it's not like I can stop her, and believe me when I say I tried. Literally even the kids I'm babysitting kept helping me but she just can't budge. It's like she's planning a lot and that probably includes you. You know Y/n, she can't sit still. She's probably planning a future with you already. "
Sae Byeok was about to protest but the last sentence made her close her mouth, her lips started to tremble as she tried to stop herself from smiling with her eyes looking everywhere but Ji-Yeong.
"wieee, someone's trying to stop a smileeee" Ji-Yeong teased her, "wonder who that could be.." Sae Byeok coughed, still avoiding Ji-Yeong's tease.
Y/n went back to them, drinks on her hands and she set them down. Sitting next to Sae Byeok.
"what were you guys talking about?"
"the kids, they were pretty energetic today don't you think?" Ji-Yeong quickly changing the subject, she knew she'd be in trouble if Y/n finds out that she blurted out her secret to the only person she's keeping it from, Sae Byeok.
The next day.
It was Sae Byeok's day off, as for Y/n...
She was very busy, there were a lot of customers at the coffee shop that morning, the laundry shop was crowded as hell and some of the washing machines were too noisy to even function, and the library was filled with students as it was finals week so everyone was all over the place.
And with Y/n trying to balance everything out, it was pure chaos that completely drained her.
All this was causing her to sigh every now and then, grumbling under her breath, bite the side of her cheeks and scratch her head.
Y/n was thankful, she has five jobs which means five times the pay. She can support herself, and help out Ji-Yeong and Sae Byeok. Though Ji-Yeong told her Sae Byeok was loaded, Y/n can't just take everything Sae Byeok worked for.
She wasn't like that and isn't planning to be like that.
On the other side, Sae Byeok was buying balloons. Specifically, heart balloons.
Opening the door as the bell rang, the sweet smell of flowers welcoming her as rainbows of what seemed like a garden filled her eyes.
"hmm..." she didn't know any romantic gestures before, as the only idea of love she has was tons of hearts in her mind. She didn't even know what her love language was.
But with the help of binge watching some dramas at her free time, she thinks she has what it takes. At first she couldn't help but to cringe at the shows, confusion and disgust was always plastered on her face whenever the main characters did anything romantic. Some scenes even made her feel uncomfortable. Though not long enough, she found herself remembering her and Y/n at some of the situations that happens in the dramas.
She could've never felt other things nor even understood what love really was without really experiencing it,
And the only person she wanted to experience it with was Y/n, only Y/n.
"I'll take these."
Y/n quickly wore the mascot she needed to wear, "be careful, Y/n. I didn't know that head you're going to wear was that heavy." Her co-worker told her, handing her the balloons,
"it's fine I got this handled." she went out and started walking around, sweat was already rolling down her body,
Y/n was walking around handing heart balloons to kids, her heart was so warm seeing the kids' reactions to her. A little girl even approached her and hugged her,
This has always been her favorite part of her job besides the pay itself, seeing smiles from kids.
It was all fun for Y/n, until she felt her back hurt. She walked towards a bench and took a sit. Removing the mascots head as she took a deep breath.
Taking a look at the mascot's head she lightly laughed, "huh, you actually look cute up close."
She didn't notice the love of her life staring at her from afar after buying her flowers, Sae Byeok's heart eyes not leaving Y/n.
Kang Sae Byeok tried approaching her, but Y/n suddenly saw her from her peripheral vision making her panic. "oh shoot she can't see me!" Y/n quickly put the head on her not realising the face of it was on her back, wearing it on the wrong side.
Y/n tried running off but extremely and sadly failed, forgetting the head was too heavy for her as she continously tripped, hoping to god that Sae Byeok didn't know it was her.
Sae Byeok was worried for her for a second but laughed right after, knowing damn well,
That girl IS her forever clumsy, but lovable Y/n L/n.
Sae Byeok called Ji-Yeong after that encounter with her forever clumsy Y/n, "one of Y/n's job is being a mascot handing out balloons, right?" she asked as soon as Ji-Yeong answered the call.
"huh? I... I forgot? Hehe..." she tried lying, hoping Sae Byeok forgot.
"really? Because I just saw a mascot with pigtails and has flowers on its head, oh and she was wearing a white and red patterned dress with ruffles on it." Sae Byeok described, remembering the details on Y/n's mascot with a smirk plastered on her face.
Ji-Yeong removed the phone off her ear and looked at the kids she's babysitting who's also listening to their call, they all looked at each other with this 😬 face on.
"heh... Hehehe.."
"Just tell me when her shift ends."
After running away from Sae Byeok, Y/n sensed and heard trouble was out to get her again. "not again.."
"what if we push it."
"no just take its head and run away."
Y/n just handed a balloon to a kid as she heard people talking behind her, "shit." she whispered, waving at the kid and speedwalking away. Hoping she doesn't trip.
But she heard footsteps, no, teenagers running behind her.
They were following her.
"hey, you didn't give me a balloon."
Y/n bit her lip, already know who that was. "frick." she whispered.
"what kind of mascot are you? A baker? You look like one."
She felt a push on her chest, "what if we push you off to... Somewhere?"
"look... I'm just trying to do my job." she answered, "and I'm just trying to make you lose it." they replied,
"the fuck?" Y/n rolled her eyes, if she weren't in that stupid but cute mascot at the moment she would've pushed these idiots herself. But she couldn't.
"whoops! My bad!" she heard laughters as her entire body was pushed to the ground, the heavy costume she was wearing wasn't helping her to stand up either.
"hey leave her alone!" the teenagers ran as Y/n heard a familiar voice.
"Hoyeon? Help me out!" Hoyeon grabbed her hands as she helped Y/n stand up, "god, I forgot there were still assholes around the area." She said, Hoyeon removing the mascots head off her.
"you should be careful, they don't even try to hide their tricks these days and often does it at a crowded place. They just love shitting on people just trying to do their job." Hoyeon explained, weighing the head. "I didn't know this was so heavy, no wonder you weren't able to stand up."
"tell me about it, not long enough my own head will fall off with it too, I'm so freaking tired." Y/n sat down, "I thought you quit on the other ones?" Hoyeon asked her, putting the head next to Y/n.
"I can't okay, Sae-"
"Sae Byeok and your mom, I know Y/n. I know, but aren't you draining yourself too much?" Y/n looked at Hoyeon with wide eyes putting her hands on her mouth, "how did you found out about that?!"
"I saw you writing on your journal, you even gave your plan a title,"my diabolical plan by Y/n" ......" Hoyeon took a long pose and just looked at Y/n with a poker face,
"you idiot." Hoyeon lightly hit her head, chuckling.
Y/n bit her lip and looked away, scratching her head "teehee..."
"are you really planning to go back there?"

Sae Byeok just finished hanging the lights, good thing the place she went to didn't have people. And would be perfect to view the night sky later.
She knew Y/n loved fairy lights, she remembered that Y/n probably has hundreds of them hanging at her RV.
Walking towards the little table she had set up, she took something out of the paper bag.
A little toy RV she found earlier at a gift shop.
Not from afar, Hoyeon was on her way home after talking with Y/n a little bit. She knew Y/n has an hour left at her shift, she tried helping her but Y/n told her to go home and take a rest.
Hoyeon squinted her eyes, checking if she's really seeing what she was seeing.
Sae Byeok was about to wear a mascot head she bought earlier after seeing Y/n, of course she picked one that looked exactly like her until Hoyeon called her,
"Sae Byeok!", Sae Byeok looked up surprised seeing her here, putting the head down as Hoyeon ran towards her, hands still in her jacket as the cold breeze brushed onto her face. "what are you doing here?"
"oh... I uhm-" Sae Byeok was hesitating to tell Hoyeon, she tried avoiding the red haired girl's face but Hoyeon already knew what's up. "Oh how I wish someone also do this for me after a tiring day," Hoyeon said, her eyes wandering around the place.
"this looks amazing, Sae Byeok." Sae Byeok wasn't sure if Hoyeon already knows that she and Y/n are you know... A couple.
But it was obvious to Hoyeon. And thanks to Y/n, Hoyeon finally knows why Sae Byeok always acted like that whenever she's there.
"thanks..." she looked down,
Hoyeon looked at her and smiled, "I'm happy Y/n finally found someone that loves her so much and accepts her for who she is." this made Sae Byeok look at her, "what do you mean?"
Hoyeon took a deep breath and looked at the sunset, "she's always been so... How do I say this? She always wanted to please everyone, she's a people pleaser. And because of that, she couldn't always love herself. She becomes this amalgamation of people who they wanted her to be."
Sae Byeok bit her lip, her grip on the little toy RV was getting tighter. "I've seen her blaming herself all the time for not being the person everyone wanted her to be. She couldn't even let herself out of the closet. And seeing her now, I don't know..." Hoyeon smiled, "it makes me feel so proud as a friend to see someone so hidden before be seen by someone other than me, finally someone seeing what I've always saw in that girl."
At that exact moment, Sae Byeok didn't feel any jealousy towards Hoyeon. All she felt was relief, not relief that Hoyeon isn't inlove with Y/n but finding out that someone actually cared for Y/n when they haven't crossed each other's paths yet.
Y/n thought no one ever cared for her, but little did she knew that there was someone like Hoyeon always looking out for her.
"she's always been like a little sister to me when we were at school, we barely hung out back then. But oddly enough, we've always been connected. Somehow."
Sae Byeok slowly placed the RV on the table faced Hoyeon, "thank you."
Hoyeon's face lit up, "Thank you for being there for her when she thought no one was." Sae Byeok smiled at her which made Hoyeon's eyes shine, she just loves it when someone's genuinely happy about something.
"hey it's nothing, Y/n means a lot to me too."
"but she's mine, okay?" Sae Byeok joked making Hoyeon chuckle, "just don't break her heart, or else I'll break your face- nah I'm kidding Y/n would probably be mad at me if I break your face." the both of them let lite laughs,
Sae Byeok found herself another friend.
"oh hey what's that?" Hoyeon asked Sae Byeok who took out a little box,
"it's... It's a necklace, do you think she'll like it?" Sae Byeok showed Hoyeon an anchor necklace, a perfect match for Y/n and the earring she once gave Sae Byeok that she was still wearing to this day.
"Sae Byeok oh my god... This is beautiful, she'll definitely love it!" Hoyeon exclaimed, lightly holding the anchor pendant.
Hoyeon saw a mascot head on the chair, laughing at Sae Byeok as she asked, "seriously?"
Sae Byeok scratched her neck, embarrassed. "I tried approaching her earlier but she ran away after putting her mascot head on the wrong side and continously tripped." the both of them chuckling, "typical Y/n." shaking her head as Hoyeon chuckled.
"oh shoot, Y/n's shift is done. She's probably on her way here to ride the bus, I have to go too." Hoyeon looked at her watch, 6:07 pm.
"good luck okay? You guys have fun! Oh and don't forget this." Hoyeon said, picking up the flowers Sae Byeok bought earlier and handing it to her,
"bye! See you around!" Hoyeon waved at her, as she waved back with a smile.
Sae Byeok looked at the little toy RV, smiling to herself as she chuckled. Putting the necklace back in the box.
"it's time to get you back, RV girl." Sae Byeok putting the mascot head she bought, purposely putting it on the wrong side with the face of it on her back.
