𝐌𝐀𝐑𝐈𝐒𝐒𝐀 VAN CAMP, nicknamed the pearl of perfection for her elegance and grace and her capability for never being capable of doing wrong. She was every parent's dream golden child. She was a prima ballerina, was on the honor roll, and was a great role model to her younger sister and her friends.
All of that changed when she turned fourteen and moved from Chicago to California.
Her dad, Ethan Van Camp, got caught in the wrong crowd of people and, in the end, it almost cost Marissa her life, along with her mother and sister. He had owed bad people ten-thousand dollars and when they didn't get it, they didn't take it out on him, they took it out on the people he loved. After that, her mother made a judgement call and woke Marissa and her sister up in the middle of the night, packed all their things and left from their house without a trace.
That was the last time she ever saw her father.
Now that they've been in California for a year, they've been trying to put their past behind them. Marissa joined another dance studio and was the new kid at West Valley High, Rachel enrolled into the fifth grade, her mother got a job waitressing at club, and they continued to live their life like nothing ever happened. Then karate entered the picture.
Initially Marissa got into karate to learn how to be a more aggressive dancer, it also didn't hurt that her friend had pulled some strings and got to take lessons and train for free, but she had never realized that one day she would have to take what she learned and use it to defend her and her family.
She also didn't expect to fall in love with her sensei's son but everything happens for a reason.
