September

Summer break had just ended, and it was the beginning of the second semester. I did my daily workout, had breakfast, and took a shower. After that, I hopped on the elevator to start school.

After the elevator doors had opened several gazes greeted me. Some people were even staring at me from further down the lobby. The boys, in particular, were giving me nasty gazes. I didn't remember doing anything bad except for that one time when I was holding back my team during the volleyball match when we went to the beach together. I wonder if there's something wrong with me?

To be honest, I was feeling somewhat uncomfortable with the situation. Fortunately, my anxiety was cured when a cute figure appeared in front of me.

"Good morning, Kiyotaka." She said as she waved her hand.

"Good morning."

"Chiaki, do you know why these people are staring at me?" I continued.

"Huh? Don't ask me, figure it out yourself." She was pouting slightly.

Is she mad at me? I mean we hadn't talked to each other since we went to the summer festival.

"I'm sorry."

"Why did you just apologize to me?"

"I think did something that makes you mad."

"Ehh!? No... It's not your fault."

"The-"

She suddenly hugged my arm before I could finish.

"Those guys are just jealous because you finally got yourself such a cute girlfriend as me." The people that were staring at me suddenly had shocked expressions after witnessing Chiaki's action.

"We're gonna stay like this until we arrive in class." She continued.

I didn't remember Chiaki being this bold.

We walked to school with Chiaki holding my arm. On the way there, people were staring at us, it was just like announcing that we are dating the entire school, some even asked us directly.

We were now in the classroom. The entire class went into panic mode as soon as we entered. The commotion didn't last long though because Chabasira-sensei had entered the classroom.

"Good morning class, I know that the second term had just begun but I have an announcement to make."

The entire class went stiff.

"In six weeks, our school will be holding a sports festival."

The athletic people like Sudou and Onodera were enthusiastic while the less athletic ones were not so keen upon hearing our homeroom teacher's words.

"As you can probably tell, this won't be just your normal sports festival since we are not an ordinary school. Just like in the special exams, you will get the opportunity to gain points. This will also be the first time you will work together as a class."

"I will be handing the handouts, please pass this to your seatmates behind. Feel free to ask any questions." She continued as she gave the handouts to the front-row students.

- Sports Festival -

Abbreviations:

CP: Class Point

PP: Private Point

PrP: Performance Point

The sports festival will be held on the second Monday of October. This festival will affect your grades and will last for two consecutive days. It consists of the following:

A.) 1st day (Athletic abilities and teamwork)

The entire student body will be divided between red and white teams which will be determined by drawing lots.

The 1st day would be further divided into two types of series events. The first type will only be attended by the classes from the same respective years, while the second type would be attended by the classes across all three years.

The second type would be held after the first series of events have concluded and consist of a relay race with a distance of 4 x 400m with each class sending two boys and girls. The fastest class would be the winner and the rewards for the relay are as follows:

1st Place - 25,000 PPs \ 40 PrP

2nd Place - 20,000 PPs \ 32 PrP

3rd Place - 18,000 PPs \ 25 PrP

4th - 6th Place - 15,000 PPs \ 18 PrP

Participation - 5,000 PPs \ 8 PrP

*Private points would be awarded to all of the representatives.

As for the first type, each class will be required to send five 'Custom Events', the rules are as follows:

-Each class is free to determine the rules and rewards of the event.

-Each event is required to have a reward in the form of Performance Points. The range is between 1 - 25 PrP(s).

-The custom event could only be a physical activity.

-The minimum number of participants is one and the maximum is twenty.

-The event would need to be approved first by the school.

-Make sure that all five events are approved before 5 PM on the last day of the month. Failure to do so would result in a 150 PrPs reduction for every student in the class.

At the end of the first day, all classes of the winning team, which is the team with the most PrPs would be rewarded with 5,000 CPs while the losing team would receive a deduction of 5,000 CPs.

The top classes with the most PrPs would also be rewarded by:

1st Place - 10,000 CPs \ 20,000 PPs

2nd Place - 8,000 CPs \ 16,000 PPs

3rd Place - 7,000 CPs \ 14,000 PPs

4th - 6th Place - 5,000 CPs \ 10,000 PPs

*Private Points would be given to all participating students in the class that has gained at least 70% of the class average.

MVP System

The MVP, which is the student who earned the most Performance Points during the first day of the sports festival would be awarded 100,000 PPs. Second and third place would earn 75,000 and 60,000 respectively.

B.) 2nd day (Athletic abilities)

The student body would be required to run a marathon around the city on a pre-determined path. The girls would start first at 8:00 AM, followed by the boys at 8:30 AM. The cutoff time of the marathon is 14:30.

Students are not allowed to bring any belongings with them and straying from the pre-determined path under any circumstances, doing so would result in disqualification and a deduction of 100 PrPs. Water stations would be placed every 2km (1,25mi).

Students would gain Performance Points based on the time they complete the marathon. The rewards are as follows:

Boys

< 2:10:00 - 100 PrPs

< 2:30:00 - 75 PrPs

< 2:45:00 - 60 PrPs

< 3:00:00 - 50 PrPs

< 3:20:00 - 40 PrPs

< 3:40:00 - 30 PrPs

< 4:00:00 - 25 PrPs

< 4:25:00 - 18 PrPs

< 4:50:00 - 12 PrPs

< 5:30:00 - 5 PrPs

> 5:30:00 - 2 PrPs

< 5:50:00 - 5 PrPs

> 5:50:00 - 2 PrPs

*Students who finished after the cut-off time would not be rewarded.

*The top three fastest students from the boys and girls would be given 100.000 PPs, 80.000 PPs, and 60.000 PPs respectively.

*At the end of the sports festival, all Performance Points gained would be converted to PPs, one PrP is worth 100 PPs.

The explanation for the most part seemed to be straightforward. There was no explanation about these so-called 'Class Points' though.

"Sensei, what are these class points?" Asked someone.

"It will be explained later after the sports festival has concluded. For now, just know that it will be quite useful in the future and try to get as many as you could during the festival."

"Another question sensei, what if someone doesn't participate in any of the events during the festival?" They continued.

"On the first day, nothing. As long as they were present at the festival, they wouldn't get rewards or reductions in points. But please keep in mind the components that would be graded during the course of the festival and there would be a very great chance that they won't receive private points since their performance points would be far below average." She answered.

"I'll give you some hints. Let's say that a student doesn't participate in the custom event or the relay race on the first day, but they actively involve themselves in helping their teammates such as fetching water for their teammates. In that case, they would get a reasonable mark on the 'Teamwork' component even though their 'Athletic abilities' won't be graded."

"The case is different during the second day, though. Since it's mandatory for all students to participate, failing to do so would result in the forfeiting of all of the Private and Performance points you have gained. As an outlier, your athletic abilities' grade is heavily influenced by the number of Performance points you earn." She continued.

The class went silent for about a few seconds until another student raised their hand.

"Can I get a further explanation about the custom event, sensei? I still don't get it."

"To put it simply, you are required to create five sports events. You can make pretty much anything as long as it's a physical activity. For example, you can make something that already exists like a basketball or a soccer(football) match. You are free to modify the rules as much as you want. You can even create an entirely new game hence its name 'Custom Event'."

"It's not stated on the handout but the events would be randomized if you fail to submit your custom event before the due time. Also, since there are four classes that means there would be twenty events in total. Of those twenty, ten events would be randomly selected by the school to be used on the first day of the sports festival. The events and the team placement would be announced one week before the start of the festival."

"I think I get it now, thank you, sensei."

"If there are no more questions, that's it for today's homeroom. You have around thirty minutes left before the start of the first period, I strongly advise you to start discussing your strategies for the sports festival." She said as she walked towards the door.

She then suddenly turned back to the class, as if forgetting something.

"One more thing, the number of points you get next month would be halved." I guess it's somewhat justified since the sports festival gives you many opportunities to earn points.

After having said that, she left the classroom.

"Everyone, I agree with what Chabasira-sensei just said. Let's start with the custom event first." Hirata wasted no time and started to mobilize the class.

"I want one of the events to be a 1v1 basketball match. I can 100% guarantee you that we'll win." Said Sudou confidently.

"Sudou-Kun, I'm confident in your abilities but I think we need to give everyone a chance to participate and get points too."

"Huh? Screw them, Hirata! I don't want those people dragging me down."

"But please consider ever-"

"Then how about a 3v3, me, you, and Ayanokouji!"

"Why me?"

"Don't screw with me! You know what happened back when we went to the beach."

Everyone started glaring at me again like back at the dormitory lobby earlier. I wonder what had happened back then? The only notable thing I did was that one point I scored during the volleyball match.

"Hirata, Sudou. I think we need to gauge everyone's abilities first. Only after that, we can start making plans for our custom event."

Most of the students were shocked because someone unexpected had suddenly stood up. It was Horikita, she had undergone a lot of development since the start of the school year. She managed to join the student council and managed to hold her own during the special exam albeit with a little bit of help from myself.

"Let's hold training sessions every day after school ends starting tomorrow." She continued. Her proposal was reasonable since school would be ending one hour earlier than usual for the preparations for the sports festival.

"Horikita-San, that's a splendid idea, I agree with us holding training sessions." Replied Hirata.

"Wait Horikita! Why don't we just hold it today?" Asked Sudou, he was excited to show off his abilities.

"I'm considering the morale of everyone. I think we need a little breather since it's still the first day of the second term." I couldn't imagine the Horikita a few months ago saying these words.

"But we just had a long ass break!" He shouted angrily.

Most of the class looked at him with disapproving expressions.

"Ugh... Fine, but we'd better start tomorrow!" He backed off, probably feeling uncomfortable from all the gazes.

"I think that's taken care of then."

"Wait, Yousuke-Kun! If we follow Horikita-San's plan. Then would the people who aren't good at anything be left behind?" Said Karuizawa, her words representing most of the girls.

"I agree with Karuizawa-San, we need to consider the number of people that will be participating. Ideally, we want everyone to participate in at least one event." Kushida said, backing Karuizawa.

"How the hell are we supposed to fit 40 people in just 5 events?" Asked Sudou with a slight hint of anger.

"Actually, that would be 80 people in 10 events if we consider the other class, and we won't be able to coordinate with them until one week before the sports festival." Said Horikita.

"We can actually make events other than basketball or a one hundred meter sprint. That's why I was thinking of making a game that isn't too physically demanding but requires a lot of teamwork. We can put many people on that game." Everyone seemed to agree with Horikita's proposal.

With that done, our class started gathering more ideas and everyone told the class the sport they are good at. Yamauchi told the class that he used to be a star basketball player during middle school but had to stop due to an injury. It was quite amusing to see the class ignoring his obvious bluff and instantly moving on to the other person while he was in the middle of his rambling. And with that, our discussion was abrubtly ended as Mashima-sensei entered the classroom.
