hates mean people.
they've never liked how easy it is for someone to hurt someone else.
how could someone be so miserable that they go out of their way to be mean?
what did they gain from it?
what was the point?
she hated watching other people get bullied.
there wasn't ever any occasion where she had gone out of her way to be mean to someone.
in fact, almost the opposite.
they've always gone out of their way to be nice. picking up bags, paying someone's fee, complimenting people.
small things, but they can have a big impact.
especially when someone else needs it.
never has there been a moment where she was impossibly cruel to someone who was already having a hard time.
because, there was a small period of time when she had been bullied.
they weren't as strong compared to the other kids, or as big as she should've been at age 8, and she was constantly either too loud or painfully quiet.
so naturally, other kids found it easy to pick on them.
also, she sucked at reading situations.
she never realized that they were laughing at her, and not with her.
one day, another small boy with teal braces informed her on the swings that these people were making fun of her.
"hey!" a voice called out.
8-year-old cherry glanced up nervously from a tiny group of friends.
they headed over to the boy.
"uh.." he scratched his head nervously. "you know those kids a second ago weren't laughing with you, right?"
"huh?" she asked, squinting her eyes in confusion.
"those kids are making fun of you. they make fun of me, too."
"they're just joking." she tried to convince herself.
"they're not. i can tell." he said sadly.
"you don't know what you're talking about." cherry said, and stormed off.
they faked being sick, went home, and cried a little.
what else would you expect from a child?
finally, she understood what was actually happening.
she laid in her bed, eyes puffy and red, tears leaking from the corners of her eyes.
she had been being bullied.
none of these kids liked her; they just liked making fun of her.
and even after that, she was still kind.
let kids cut her in line, let people copy her homework.
gave hungrier kids their lunch.
still, she was kind.
overtime, she began to fight back.
kids stopped their insults after she grew a few inches and knocked out a kid's tooth by accident.
she never really bullied people besides the whole tooth thing, and it was an accident.
nothing had ever pushed her over her limit.
at least, not until she met adam fucking reed.
it was hypocritical of her to hate bullies and then become one.
but somehow, for the first time in her 13 years of life, someone had made her angry enough to become a bully.
the cause of this major change?
rumors.
they'd started to pour in during summer, going from realistic to dramatic in seconds.
it went from;
"you know she got bullied?"
all the way to;
"i heard she killed her mom."
cherry did not kill her mom. her mom walked out on her own.
some other rumors spread were;
"she's secretly a spy here to kill us all."
god, no.
if she was a spy, she would have accidentally told everyone on the first day because she can't keep secrets.
"her brother is in jail."
her brother is like, 16, and works at a coffee shop, not in jail.
"they're pregnant."
no? definitely not? who's fucking baby?
maybe sometimes she calls people her baby mama, but it doesn't mean she was pregnant.
"she's gay!"
not entirely a rumor. she's pansexual.
"she's dating adam!"
they would literally rather eat their own eyeballs than ever date adam.
"they eat onions like apples."
bro.. what?
literally, who even thinks of this shit?
they don't even like onions. they make it perfectly clear in their private story daily rants about everything they dislike.
"she dropped out of high school."
she's literally still in middle school. how would that even work?
"she's obsessed with her ex!"
what ex?
she gets no bitches. no dms. their phone is dryer than racist women's vaginas.
"they don't peel string cheese."
why wouldn't she peel string cheese?
they haven't even eaten string cheese since like, 3rd grade.
the rumors were honestly more stupid then they were insulting, at least most of the time.
she'd see the latest one, and laugh about it.
you know who started those rumors?
adam fucking reed.
he'd better relax and stop being so rude, or else she'd fall in love with him.
school counselors like to say bullies are just jealous and insecure.
as absolutely sappy and cringey and corny as it is, it's pretty much always true.
cherry is sad and insecure and jealous of adam.
but it's not like she'll change, or that realizing they will make her stop bullying him.
in her mind, he deserves it.
or maybe it's all her pent-up anger being taken out on one person.
he spread rumors about her that would've definitely made her get bullied again.
and she refuses to let that happen.
so, in a foolish act of self-defense, she poured all of her rages out consistently to adam.
she saw him walking through the hallway?
bully him.
sees him in the same class?
bullies him.
everything they do is to make adam upset. they seek him out to make his life miserable.
they think he deserves it.
he was her exception. the one person she'd ever bully.
usually, their fights never got physical.
maybe she was a cruel kid with a bad attitude, and a giant dislike for specifically him, but it didn't mean she was constantly hitting him.
although, she has broken his nose.
they don't feel bad for doing it.
it was an accident.
just because cherry can be a bitch, who goes out of their way to hurt people, doesn't mean she's physically hurting them.
their maximum bullying victim amount is 1.
they absolutely cannot understand the idea of actually hurting someone.
but they don't care when it's adam.
he almost ruined her life.
he deserves his ruined, too.
