(Y/n) POV:
It's an hour before the show starts
Bosch and Will are exploring while the rest of us relax for a bit
I'm laying across Amity's lap, with our palismen resting on my stomach and Luz leaning on us
Skara sits on her scroll a little bit away from our little huddle
"Guys, do you think we're good enough to win?" Amity asks
"I mean I'm here for fun but ya know how I don't like losing, you know we got this Am"
"Yea, just remember to have fun and we will do great" Luz adds
I look up to Amity who seems a little worried
I snuggle up to her more in an attempt to inconspicuously comfort her
Amity notices and plays with my hair tufts
I relax and close my eyes
I think she's calming down a little
Where we're set up is pretty quiet
I'm fighting the urge to take a nice power nap
Suddenly, Ghost wakes up and immediately goes into defence
I feel Amity's body tense up from under me
I jump a little and look up to what Ghost is so mad at and what Amity is so scared of
A black haired witch with a resting bitch face?
"Hey greenie, you and your new girlfriend trying out for the loser contest?" She says to Amity
Ghost starts hissing at her
"Feral beast" she scoffs at them
A black cat jumps up into her arms
"Good kitty Faang" she coos at it
I stay silent for a second and she giggles
She looks me up and down, noticing my shirt
"Anything to say bad girl?" She leans down to me
I stand up and look down at her a little
She is not intimidated by me at all
"What do you want?" I ask her in a calm tone
She looks a little annoyed that I didn't respond how she wanted
"She hasn't told you about me, has she?" She tries to get me going again
"Obviously you're not important if I don't know you" I roll my eyes
"Pfft, me? Not important?" She tips her head back and has a hard laugh
"Well who are you then?" I cross my arms
"You haven't heard of my daddy? He's one of the richest witches on the boiling isles and one of the emperors highest investors. I come from a-"
"No I mean who are you to us dipshit, I don't give two fucks about your daddy" I say
She gets a little embarrassed
"Oh... an old... acquaintence of Amity's, that's all" she looks past me to a nervous Amity
Before I even open my mouth she starts up again
"So, you replace me with Owl lady's offspring? I didn't expect your standards to drop that low" she rests her face in her hand with a smirk
I wind up to deck her in the face but Amity gets up and pulls my arm down
"Go away Harlow" Amity says sternly
"Looks like someone finally has the balls to talk to me" she smirks
"So, how have you been greenie? I'd love to know all about your new girlfriend" she looks at me
The witch walks around her with an evil grin
Amity looks down and starts to play with her shirt
"C'mon, talk to me" she spits
I see Am start to tear up
I put myself in between them and push Harlow back
She falls on her ass behind me and snarls while I give her a smile
"Hey!" She screeches
"Oops, sorry" I giggle
I put my arm around Amity and walk her away from the crowds
"Who's Harlow?" I ask as soon as we find a safe spot
"Nobody" Amity refuses to look at me
I resist the urge to push her for more info
"Well, nobody is going to get her ass beat if she bothers you again, got it?" I try to act tough
"Mhm" I see a teardrop start to roll down her face before she quickly wipes it away
I pick her up into a hug and she pulls me tight
I can feel her start to cry as she hides her face in my hair
I start walking back with Amity still in my arms
We reach our little setup to see Luz and Skara telling Harlow off as she walks away
I put Amity down and wipe off her tears
I look at her destroyed eye makeup and cast a spell from behind my back to fix it without her noticing
"What a meanie" Luz sticks out her tongue
"Agreed" the rest of us say
"We're back losers" Bosch and Will walk up to us
"So I see you have already met the black haired bitch too?" Bosch says
"Yea, she called me four eyes" Will says in an annoyed tone
"Like if you're gonna insult me at least be original with it"
"That's Harlow for you" Amity pinches the bridge of her nose
"She enjoys getting in peoples heads, finding a way to scare them into submission, she finds it fun"
"How do you know?" Skara asks
Amity pauses and thinks
An announcement comes over the loudspeaker
"All contestants please come to the stage"
I cast a spell and all of our stuff disappears
We make our way up to the stage along with the other contestants
Everyone is shocked to see none other than Raine Whispers themself
"Is that the coven head?" Luz whispers to me "Is it the one your mom likes? The one that helped raise you?"
"Yep" I whisper back with a smile
"Hello everyone" they announce
"I'm so glad to see all of you kids here!
Pfft you've earned it after those lame tryouts, but now I'm so excited to finally hear you all play tonight!"
There was tryouts?
Our band looks at each other in confusion
"Now I'm very sorry about the hold up on the music and paper"
"But it's here now!" They hold up the sheet
"I will call out your band and or individual names in order and all you have to do is tell me the 3 songs you'll be playing"
"I'll fill it out for you to speed things up a little" they smile
"Three Songs?!" I almost shout at my band
"Since when did we have to sing three songs?!" I continue
Everyone looks at each other nervously
I snatch Luz's phone and immediately start looking for new songs
They start calling out names and the band stares at me while I struggle
"The bad girls" They call
Everyone stares at me and I draw a blank
I think for a second and immediately shout the first 2 songs to come to mind
"Girls, Oh Hannah and umm sports!"
"Oh I've never heard of those before, exciting!" They quickly write them down
*5 minute time skip*
As people make their way backstage again I manage to find Raine
I try to run up to them but get stopped by a guard
"Sorry miss, no-"
"Calm down Malik, let her through"
The guard obeys their orders and they let me walk up to Raine
"What is it that you need?" They ask kindly
"I was wondering what you meant by tryouts, did we miss something?"
"You missed noting Clawthorne" they reply
"What makes you think I'm a Clawthorne?" I cross my arms
Raine points at my hair
"Yea, that does give it away" we both laugh
They remember I had asked a question
"While going through papers, I had noticed you signed up" Raine explains
"And I just knew I had to see you preform" they say
"So you just let us in the show because you know me?"
"Well I haven't seen you since you were little and I kinda missed you and your family"
"So you didn't think we would be good enough to make it past tryouts?" I tease them
"No I'm not saying that at all, I just thought you were too good for trying out with those chumps out there"
"I mean I did learn from the best" I punch their arm
"Head witch, we need you to help let in guests now" a guard calls
"I must go now, but tell your family I said hi, good luck raindrop!" They call
I haven't heard that nickname in a long time
*time skip*
"Dude we haven't even heard that song what the fuck" Boscha paces
"It's ok, I know this will sound great! Besides, we have a little bit of time left to practice"
Luz plays the song for us and we find it pretty easy to learn
"We'll start with Girls, then Sports and finish in 1st place with Oh Hannah"
*20 minute time skip*
We sit backstage waiting for the show to start
This place is packed
"Hey cuties, how's everything going?" Ed and Em walk up to us
"Pretty good actually! Wait how did you guys get in here?" I reply
"We have our ways" Ed stretches
"Can we steal mittens for a sec?" Emira asks
"Um sure?"
Amity walks off with them and they immediately start whispering
Amity POV:
"Did you see her?" Em asks
"See who?"
"Harlow" she whispers and points at her quietly
"I mean, I've seen her around" I play with my clothes
"Did she talk to you?" she crosses her arms
"Possibly...?"
"Amity, please just avoid her" they tell me
"I can try, but I can't control her"
Emira crouches down to me
"Do not speak to her, do not listen to her, do not go near her, got it?"
"Got it" we shake hands and part ways
On my way backstage I see Harlow talking to a large group of witches
I catch myself staring and notice her look up at me
She quickly smiles, realizing she had earned my attention
I see (y/n) head over to me and a plan forms
(Y/n) POV:
I walk up to Amity and she grabs my hands
"Wanna help me make Harlow really mad?" She points to the asshole from earlier
"Sure" I grin
"Ok so all you have to do is-"
"Wait, before you continue I want to know something" I stop her
She can tell what I'm about to ask and her face falls a little
"So what's with you and Harlow?" I cut straight to the point
"Is it ok if I tell you later, mabye in a more private space?" She sighs
"Yea that's fine I guess" I hold my neck
"Ok, what did you need from me?"
"Well I was just wondering if you could help me by acting like my girlfriend for the night" she says
"It's ok if you don't want to though" she adds
I take a minute to think
"I mean she already think's I'm your girl so I guess it wouldn't hurt to play the part for a bit" I blush and laugh
I get to spend more time with Amity and prove how good of a girlfriend I can be to her
"Thank you (y/n), you're amazing" she wraps me onto a hug and kisses me on the cheek
My face goes beat red and try to hide it
"Woah there, don't be catching feelings already" she jokes
I laugh and reach my arm out to her
She takes it and we hold hands as we walk back to the group
*time skip*
An announcement comes over the loudspeaker
"5 minutes till showtime!" They call
Everyone starts to pack up so they can watch from behind the curtans
Am waits and holds out her hand but soon looks past me and I know who's there
I quickly put both hands on her waist and pull her up to me
She leans her head to mine and wraps her arms around me
"This good?" I whisper
"Perfect" she smiles
"You're such an amazing friend for doing this for me (y/n)" she grabs my face and kisses my cheek
I blush and hold where her lips had just touched
"Yea, friend" I mutter
She doesn't hear my comment and pulls my hand for me to follow her
We join everyone backstage and peek through the curtains
I see my mom, aunt, King and Hooty all in the front row
On the other side of the audience I see Edric and Emira with 2 empty seats beside them
"Am, are your parents coming?" I ask
"They should be here"
She pulls up her scroll and calls her mom
I back away to give her privacy
Amity POV:
"Hello mittens, what do you need?" My mom answers
"I thought you and dad were coming?" I jump right to the question
"We we're but we got caught up with some work stuff"
I hear a few things crash and a big splat in the background
"But you two promised you'd come watch"
"Well things happen, plans change, that's life mittens"
knowing that work is just more important sometimes, I just need to suck it up and let it go
"It's ok mother, I get it" I sigh
"I guess if you'd like, we can try to come later if we finish up early" she softens up a bit
"Yess thank you so much mother!"
"Ok well I must go now, bye mittens"
She ends the call
"How was it?" She comes up and asks
"They can't come"
"Oh Am, I'm so sorry"
"All participants please make your way backstage, the show is about to begin" the announcer calls
