"Sorry E.J. but it looks like I'm gonna be the one sitting next to your girlfriend."

WHEN ALASKA ENTERED the practice room, her eyes along with everyone else's immediately lit up at the sight.
The room was filled with a variety of props, a piano was in the corner, and the chairs were in a circle, each table holding a piece of paper with everyone's character that they were playing on it.
Melanie who was standing right next to the redhead grabbed her older sisters hand and let out a loud squeal of excitement, making everyone in the room turn to her.
Melanie furiously blushed when the felt all eyes on her making her lean in closer to her sister who just laughed at how flustered she got.
Alaska joined Nini and Kourtney who were standing off to the side, listening to their conversation.
"How are you gonna get through 74 rehearsals with him?" Kourtney asked, referring to Ricky who Melanie had ran off with.
"I won't make eye contact." Nini simply replied as she went through her backpack.
While the two spoke, Alaska looked around the room, her eyes landing on E.J. who looked rather suspicious.
She watched as the boy stared at the paper that read 'Troy's understudy' and then the seat right next to it with a paper that had 'Gabriella Montez' written on it.
Her eyes narrowed when she saw E.J. attempt to swap his name tag on it which read 'Chad Banforth' with Alaska's so that way he would be the one sitting next to Nini.
Alaska scoffed as she let her impulses get the best of her, walking over to the boy right as he swapped the two name tags, tapping him on the shoulder.
Once E.J. turned around he looked like a deer caught in headlights making Alaska give him a sickly sweet smile.
"Sorry E.J. but it looks like I'm gonna be the one sitting next to your girlfriend." Alaska said, feigning sympathy as she quickly swapped their name tags back to where they originally were.
She watched as E.J. was frozen in place making her lean in closer to him with a small smirk on her face as she whispered, "For every single read-through."
With those last words she spun around on her heels and took her seat, right next to where Nini was going to sit, giving E.J. a sarcastic wave just to rub it in a little.
Alaska was never one to be mean to someone and quite frankly that was the first time she's ever done something like that, and it felt amazing.
"Could everyone take their assigned seats please?" Miss Jenn suddenly asked as everyone else followed, taking their assigned seats.
Alaska sat in between Nini and E.J. while Ricky sat on the other side of E.J. and Melanie was right next to him.
Nini gave Alaska a large smile as she sat down next to the girl while Miss Jenn suddenly stopped Big Red.
"Yoo-hoo, ginger boy. Can you read?" Miss Jenn asked as everyone paused what they were doing and turned around to face the boy.
"Uh...Not really." Big Red replied nervously but Miss Jenn just dismissed it saying, "Well, you're reading now. Just the stage directions. Thank you. Excuse me."
Miss Jenn walked off while both Alaska and Ricky gave the boy a sympathetic look for being dragged into this.
Alaska nearly burst out laughing when she heard Big Red ask the janitor what Miss Jenn meant while the man just shrugged.
"Don't forget to silence your phones!" Miss Jenn reminded as everyone finally shifted their attention to her.
"I realize that you all walked in here as strangers." Miss Jenn informed making Alaska furrow her brows and share a look with Melanie.
"Actually, EJ's my cousin!" Ashlyn pitched in happily making E.J. give the group a tight lipped smile.
Once Alaska saw Miss Jenn trying to hold in her frustration she thanked the gods that she didn't say something about her and Melanie being sisters.
"But after today, you're a family." Miss Jenn ignored Ashlyn and continued her little monologue.
"One tribe, committed to lifting this classic film to new heights." Before Miss Jenn could continue, she was interrupted by a camera clicking causing her to face Carlos who was taking a slefie, holding up his paper that said choreographer on it.
Miss Jenn gave him a look making him shut his phone off as Miss Jenn said, "Please take your neighbors' hands."
Nini took Gina's hand clearly looking like she wanted to be anywhere else before turning her head, her face practically lighting up as she stuck out her hand for Alaska to take.
Alaska looked up and playfully rolled her eyes once she saw Nini wiggling her brows teasingly.
The red head placed her hand in the brunettes, ignoring the small spark that she felt when their hands touched.
Alaska's smile slightly dropped when she realized that she had to hold E.J.'s hand next, she begrudgingly took it with an annoyed look.
She wasn't the only one though, Ricky, who sat in between Melanie and E.J. looked anything but happy to have to hold E.J.'s hand.
The only thing that was making it bearable was the fact that Melanie was holding his other hand, sending him a warm smile that made his guard come down just a little bit.
"Feel each other's energy. Let the silence speak volumes. In a world full of no, this is a space full of yes." Miss Jenn encouraged them as Alaska just gave the woman a blank stare.
"Remind me why I'm here again?" Alaska whispered to Nini, leaning in closer to the brunette.
"Because I'm your favorite person." Nini simply replied with an innocent smile.
"You wish." Alaska said trying to be serious but couldn't help but smile at the fact that their faces were so close, she could literally smell the lavender scent coming from Nini's hair.
Nini rolled her eyes, playfully nudging the girl while the two smiled brightly at each other, completely forgetting that they were in a room full of people.
Before anyone could do anything else the unexpected happened and Miss Jenn began singing "We're All in This Together" from High School Musical.
"We're all in this together, once we know that we are, we're all stars and we see that." As Miss Jen sang Nini suddenly ripped her hand away from Gina's, growing uncomfortable with the tension.
One thing that Alaska didn't fail to notice was the fact that Nini still held onto her hand as she began writing in her notebook.
As if on sync both Ricky and Alaska ripped their hands away from E.J's, glad that they didn't still have to do this.
When Alaska noticed how tense Nini had gotten she squeezed the girl's hand and began tracing patterns on the back of it, giving the girl a reassuring smile which was returned.
Alaska watched with a smile as Ricky still kept his hand in Melanie's, nearly laughing when she saw the two attempt to hide their blushes.
"We're all in this together and it shows when we stand hand-in-hand make our dreams come..." Miss Jenn continued and Alaska was definitely not prepared for what was going to happen next.
"True." The woman stretched out the note, singing in a high pitch that made everyone exchange confused glances.
When she kept going Alaska couldn't help it anymore and let out a snort which made Nini lightly nudge her to shut up but couldn't contain her smile either.
"I'm gonna cry." Melanie squeaked out, gripping onto Ricky's hand tighter so that way she wouldn't burst out into laughter.
When Miss Jenn was done, Ashlyn began clapping for her making majority of the class give her a weird look while Miss Jenn thanked her with a proud smile.
"We definitely just joined a cult." Alaska spoke up while Big Red nodded vigorously, horror written all over his face.
After a couple minutes later of warming up, it was finally time for the read-through to actually begin.
"Sharpay heads for class, hears singing, opens the door to the biology lab. She finds Gabriella and Taylor washing their hands. They turn to find there are no paper towels in the dispenser. They..." Big Red read off the paper very slowly, making everyone give him looks of disbelief.
"Stop. Don't run it all together. Read the punctuation." Miss Jenn quickly interrupted him, making the boy continue but it got worse if that was even possible.
"Sharpay comma heads for class period." Big Red quite literally took her directions seriously and read the punctuations out loud making Alaska face palm.
That wasn't the end however, the boy kept on going and by now Alaska had her head on the desk, fast asleep as she let out small snores.
Nini turned around in confusion only to let out a small laugh when she heard Alaska's snores, letting the girl sleep for a little longer, knowing that if she woke her up the girl would be grumpy.
Melanie also fell asleep, her head resting on Ricky's shoulder as the boy tried not to make any sudden movement, scared that it will wake her up.
"And they are hearing the songs in their heads period." Big Red finally finished, once he was done Miss Jenn slammed her hand down onto the desk causing Alaska to jolt up.
"What happened?!" The girl asked loudly as she flailed her arms around, whacking Nini in the process.
"You fell asleep, idiot." Nini said as she clutched onto her nose making the red head give the girl a sheepish smile.
Melanie on the other hand hadn't woken up at all, in fact as Miss Jenn spoke she only let out a small groan, nuzzling further into Ricky's neck.
"And that's Act One. Let's take a break. Come here." Miss Jenn announced, as she got up and waved Carlos over.
Once Alaska got up, she tried her best to mask her sadness when she saw Nini and E.J. talking. Sometimes she forgot that all she ever had with Nini was just a hopeless crush, nothing more.
Instead of continuing to watch the couple and become even more miserable, Alaska decided to walk over to Ricky and Melanie, helping the poor boy out.
Ricky watched in confusion as Alaska leaned over Melanie, the girl only waving him off with a smile.
"I got this." Alaska whispered to Ricky before bringing her mouth right over Melanie's ears screaming, "Melanie wake up!"
The younger girl shot up with startled eyes, her head whipping over to the sound of laughter making her glare at her sister.
"Oh you are so going to wish you were ever born!" Melanie suddenly shouted making Alaska's laughter stop as her eyes widened in horror.
The sisters had a stare down before Alaska said, "Give me a head start!" And with that being said Alaska sprinted off, Melanie right on her heels.
Even though Nini was supposed to be paying attention to what her boyfriend was saying, she couldn't help but keep her gaze on Alaska, her lips curving up into a smile as she heard Alaska's laughter echo throughout the hallways.
Miss Jenn was standing off to the side, discussing with Carlos about how their Troy and Gabriella looked like they wanted nothing to do with each other.
"What happened to our Troy and Gabriella?" Miss Jenn asked as she saw the awkward tension between Nini and Ricky.
"Should we think about re-casting?" Carlos asked nervously while Miss Jenn immediately turned down that idea.
"Absolutely not. My instincts are impeccable. And I'm not scared of a challenge." Miss Jenn said confidently as she watched Ricky smile at his phone, what no one knew was that he was actually texting Melanie not Nini.
The girl was texting Ricky about her plan to murder Alaska after this whole thing was over, she had a step by step plan and everything. What made it even funnier was that Melanie was currently hunting down Alaska as she texted Ricky.
"This one might be impossible. She won't even look at him." Carlos continued as he watched Nini and E.J.
"Yeah, but she'll look at Alaska." Miss Jenn said, giving Carlos a knowing look. Everyone could see that the two girls had feelings for each other, well except for themselves.
"Sometimes I think that they should be the ones together, I'm sorry but I don't ship Nini and E.J. at all, the spark just isn't there." Carlos said bluntly, clearly having thought about this before and Miss Jenn couldn't help but agree with every single word that he said.
"They're perfect for each other, they just don't see it yet."
Ahhhh how have you guys been? I'm so sorry for the late update, this was supposed to be out last weekend but I'm swamped with homework! The good news is that I start spring break on Thursday so hopefully I can get a few updates in for my books before I go on a little vacation, I hope you guys enjoyed this chapter!
