"Well, nice to meet you, y/n."
~15th March 2019 ~

The atmosphere inside the car was tense, with an eerie silence hanging heavily in the air. Not a single word was uttered between you and your mother as the car drove on. The only sound that could be heard was the hum of the engine and the whir of the wheels as they spun against the pavement. You felt a palpable sense of unease as you gazed out of the window, watching the world outside pass you by in a blur. The tension was so thick that it felt like you could cut it with a knife, and it made you feel as though you were walking on eggshells. The back of the car was full of your two suitcases, a duffel bag and your backpack. You were finally moving away from your childhood town, Trost. All of the milestones you experienced there. Now here you are in the car with your pissed-off mother driving you to the airport to get on your flight to the City of Maria. Your new home.

Why was your mother pissed off? Well, she didn't want you to move so far away. It didn't matter if you were moving so you could get one step closer to your dream. She needed you around to look after her like a child, she was a bitter, lazy woman. She was never grateful for you. And frankly, you were sick of it so this was perfect that your new job happened to be a two-hour flight away. To be honest, you were surprised she even offered to take you to the airport. You guessed she was probably going to convince you to stay but surprisingly she hasn't spoken a word.

You started to see the airport in the distance, relief washing over you that this tense situation will be over. That was until your mom started to talk.

"So, you're doing this? Huh?" She said bitterly, "Yeah, I am." You reply with the same bitter tone. You were so done with her bullshit.

She parked the car at the airport's parking lot, "Bye." Your mother spits out, you roll your eyes at her rudeness. "Bye."

As you stepped out of the car, you felt the cool breeze brush past your face. You reached into the back seat, grabbed your belongings and pulled them out one by one. You first put on your backpack, feeling the weight of it settle on your shoulders. Then you slung your duffle bag over your shoulder, feeling the strap dig into your skin. You finally pulled out your two large suitcases and began walking towards the entrance, the wheels of the suitcases making a faint rumbling sound on the pavement. As you walked, you couldn't help but glance back one last time. Your heart sank as you saw that your mother had already driven off, leaving you to face this new adventure on your own. Despite the recent setback, you refused to let it dampen your spirits. You had your sights set on a new adventure in an unfamiliar city, brimming with opportunities to discover new places and experiences. After all, you were one step closer to realizing your lifelong ambition of becoming a journalist for a leading sports publication in the city. The thought of the exciting challenges and possibilities that awaited you filled you with a sense of anticipation and motivation. You were determined to make the most of this new chapter in your life and forge a path towards your dream career. You get your bags checked in and your plane ticket sorted out. Everything was going to plan. You were now in the seating area waiting until your flight was ready for you to board, you then felt your phone buzz. It was from your older sister, Mina. She was about two years older than you.

Big sis
Hey, sis. I hope you have a safe flight! You're gonna become the most famous journalist in the City of Maria, I can see it now!!

You smile at the sweet text from your sister. Although you had a shitty mother, you knew you had your sister. She always had your back, no matter what. She was like your best friend and pretty much was. She was the one who paid for your flight. She also found you a place to stay with two other roommates, with rent not too expensive. She made sure the two weren't weirdos. They were both girls who were about 20, the same age as you. She was your number one supporter and for that you were grateful.

You typed out a text for a response and sent it. A small smile on your face, feeling a lot better after your car journey with your mother.

You
thank you! hopefully, I will be, only one can dream. again, thanks for everything

It wasn't long until she responded.

Big sis
it's no problem. I'm your biggest fan remember;)
I love you

You
I love you too.
-saw 1m

You were glad you had her. Even if this doesn't work out, she's going to be right back home with open arms.

About 10 minutes passed, and you looked up at the departure board and looked down to find your flight. It said you could now start boarding, you stood up and made your way down to the terminal where your flight was.

The fresh airport smell gushed past you as you walked through the last part of the security of them checking your passport and letting you board. You made your way onto your plane and to your seat. 07G.

It was the seat next to the window. It was your favourite thing to sit at the window seat, it made you feel like a child but that wasn't a bad thing.

You sit down and make yourself comfortable, you yawn, tired even though it is only 1 in the afternoon. It wasn't long until someone sat next to you, he looked about your age. He wore a brown sweater with a white undershirt, followed by a pair of black pants. His hair was a raven black and he had cute freckles across his cheek. You were glad that it wasn't some creepy 40-year-old man because there was no way you were going to be able for the next two hours dealing with that.

The boy got out a book from his bag, it was 'The Girl On The Train'.

Your eyes widen a bit at the familiar name, it was one of your favourite books. Murder mysteries/Thrillers were your favourite genre. It was something about the unexpected that you loved the most.

"That's a good read, It's one of my favourites," You tell him, looking at the freckled boy.

He looks at you with a smile, "It is, I'm about halfway through. Don't spoil anything." He laughs, "Oh no, I won't." You laugh as well. "And, your name is?" He asks. "I'm Y/n, and you?" You smile, "I'm Marco, nice to meet you."
"Yeah, you too."

"So, why are you flying to Maria?" He questions, "For a new job, it's pretty exciting." You respond.

The plane finally took off and your conversation kept going, it was only small talk but it was pleasant having someone to talk to. It would make the two-hour plane trip a lot quicker.

"Really? That's awesome," Marco said with the same sweet smile. "What job?" He adds. "I'm a journalist, I got the job for a popular sports paper, Shiganshina's sports stars." You smile, "Wait really?!" He exclaims. You couldn't help but feel happy with how the conversation was going, it was a nice feeling making friends.

"You've heard of it?" You sit up more, getting engaged. "Yeah, I work for it as well. I'm also a journalist."
"You're kidding?!!" You smiled even more before, it almost felt that your cheek was hurting from all the smiling."Nope, What a coincidence. huh?" Marco laughs, "What are you doing in Trost?" You point out.

"I came here for an assignment, I had to write an article about the future competition coming against the sports teams in Maria." He answers your question.

"Oh, I see." You nod.

"Yeah, it's a nice town. I'm guessing you've lived here your whole life," he says.

"Yep, another reason why I'm excited to move away. As much as this is my home and I love it, I wanted a change of scenery. You know?"
"Yeah, I get that." He smiles.

Your conversation continued the whole plane journey. You mostly talked about our favourite books, and he told me about what you should expect from the new job. It was a crazy coincidence that he just so happened to be working the same job as you. It made you glad that the world was in your favour. This new life you were creating was already going well and you sure hope it would stay this way.

The plane finally landed, and the flight felt as if it was only 30 minutes instead of the full two hours. You made your way off the plane and into the Maria airport. You and Marco kept a conversation going as made your way through the place. Unfortunately, you had to depart from each other due to the fact he lived the opposite way from where your new apartment was. You said your goodbyes and you also got his number which made you happy. You have already made a new friend. It made you feel you had a spring in your step.

You had gone through security and got your bags. You found your taxi that was dropping you off, the taxi driver helped get your bags in. You got into the back of the car and you felt your phone buzz.

It was your sister, Mina.

Big sis
Heyy!! Did you have a safe flight?

Me
Yes, I did. :)

Big sis
Yay, I'm glad. Good luck with the new roommates, I'm sure they're nice

Me
Yeah, I sure hope so 😭

Big sis
You'll be okay either way
I'll text you tonight, remember to call me and tell me everything that happens

Me
You got it😎

Big sis
Good😎

You smile at your texts, already missing your sister like crazy but you knew she would visit sometime.

The taxi ride was about 20 minutes, thankfully the taxi driver didn't say a word. You hated when the driver would make small talk, it was always so awkward. You knew because of his lack of talk you would give him 5 stars on Uber.

You finally arrived at the apartment complex. It was located perfectly right near all the cafes, the main mall, many nice restaurants, and also plenty of nightclubs. You were convinced you could never get bored here, I suppose that was a perk of now living in a city.

You got out of the taxi and the driver also helped with your bags. You gave him a 'Thank you,' and he left. You turned to look at the 5 story apartment complex, it seemed a lot bigger than you expected. The nerve of meeting your new roommates started to build up. You knew they weren't going to be some weirdos since your sister made sure of that but still, it was nerve-racking.

You made your way to the third floor and apartment 104. You inhaled as you stood in front of the white door, you couldn't help but think of 100 different ways how meeting them was going to go. You had always been one to overthink every situation. You plucked up the courage to finally knock at the door, you gripped the strap of your duffle bag on your shoulder tightly. The anticipation rose as you waited for someone to answer the door.

That was until the door opened revealing a 6-foot buzz-cut male. You were now slightly confused as you expected a girl to answer the door but you weren't going to jump to conclusions just yet.

"Well, hello there," the male spoke with a smirk, leaning against the frame of the door. "Hi," you crack a small smile, "I'm the new roommate? Or do I have the wrong apartment?"

"Oh! You're Y/n, right?"
"Yeah, that's me," You laugh a bit. "I'm Connie, a pleasure to meet you," He says. "I'm friends with Hitch and Sasha, the two other girls that live here."
"Oh, I see that makes more sense. I thought maybe you were one of their boyfriends or something." You admitted, still having a grip on your bag. Although you weren't as tense as you were before, you still were yet to meet who you were going to be living with.

"I am a bit of a lady's man but no, fortunately for you. I'm single." He boasts. You laugh, "Sure, whatever you say but I think you mean, unfortunately."
"Damn, Y/n. I thought we had something." He joked you couldn't help but laugh. "Connie! Who are you harassing at the door?!" A woman's voice called out, she soon came to the door and stood next to Connie. She was about 5'7, she had brown hair and wore it in a ponytail. She had a big bag of potato chips in one hand, she looked over towards me. "Oh my god! Are you our new roommate? Y/n right?" She smiles big at me, her excitement clear.

You chuckle a bit, "Yeah, that's me."

"I'm sorry that you had to meet Connie first," She nudges his arm. "Hey?! What is that supposed to mean?!" He detested, sounding offended, crossing his arms. "You're annoying and I would be very disappointed if you were the first person I met at my new apartment."
"Wow, Sasha. I feel the same way."
Sasha scoffs, "Whatever you say, Connie."

You couldn't help but laugh at their dynamic.

The brunette girl looks toward you with a bright smile, "Well, It's nice to meet you, Y/n."
"Yeah. You too," you say with a smile in return.

"Now come on in! Let me show you around," She exclaims taking your suitcase. "Connie, hold this." Shoving the packet of potato chips into his chest, he grabs the packet and scoffs. "As the man, I should help with her bags," He takes the other suitcase.
"I'm more of a man than you'll ever be." Sasha continues to take your suitcases from your side and rolls them into the apartment.

You had honestly expected them to be uptight and rude, but in reality, they weren't at all. You already started to feel comfortable around them.

You walked in with them, closing the door behind you. You walked through the small hallway and to the end of it there were two hallways connected to it, one which went left and the other that went right.

"Okay, so. Down the right hallway is mine and Hitch's room, the other girl who lives here. Down the left is your room and a bathroom, Hitch has her own bathroom attached to her room. So, you don't have to worry about all 3 of us sharing the same bathroom." Sasha explains with a friendly smile. "And you're okay with sharing with me?" You ask, feeling a bit bad that she has to share a bathroom with a stranger. "Of course! We are both girls so honestly, it's okay,"
"That's kinda hot," Connie spoke up in a slightly jokey tone. "Connie!" Sasha slaps his arm, "You're going to scare her off."
"I'm just kidding!" He defends himself.

You laugh at the two, "Don't worry, it's amusing."
"Wow, Y/n. Am I a joke to you?" He says almost sounding offended. "Currently, yes."
"Y/n, if you're worried about fitting in, you already are." She reassures, "It's a running theme that Connie gets bullied."

You laugh, feeling a lot less nervous, that is the kind of reassurance you need.

"Yeah, and it's unfair." He shakes his head, "Yeah, yeah. Whatever, Connie."

"The room ahead of us is the living room and the kitchen is connected to it, it's still a work in progress but we are getting there." Sasha points to the room, she then starts walking down the right hallway towards your room. You all walk into the room that is now yours, "And this is your room." Sasha says as she puts one of the suitcases to the side and Connie does the same with the other one. You look around at the plain light blue walls with some simple art in frames on the walls. The floor was rustic, light brown wood which complimented the colour that the wall. There was, of course, a bed with pillows but with no sheets. Which wasn't a problem since you had brought your own. There was a closet and a desk which would be perfect for you to use to do your writing. "I know it's not very exciting but we'd thought we would let you do what you'd like with it but we would be happy to help if you'd like." She smiles at you and you exchange a smile back. "Thank you, I appreciate that." You put your duffle bag and backpack on the bed.

"Want us to help you unpack?" Connie offered, "Oh yeah!" Sasha perked up.

"Oh no, don't worry. I've got this, thank you though." You smile at the pair, "Well, alright." Sasha says, Connie speaks up after looking at some messages on his phone, "Well, I best be going, I've got practise I'll catch you guys later. It was nice meeting you, Y/n." He nods at you and then looks at Sasha.

"Yeah, you too." You smile, he leaves after and heads out of the door.

"Are you sure you don't want any help with unpacking? It looks like you have a lot to do," Sasha asks again. You look around at how much you have to do, plus it would be better if you get it done quickly so you have time to relax. "Uh, actually yeah. That would be great." You smile at the brunette.

You and Sasha start unpacking your suitcases. It was silent every so often as Sasha asked where you wanted certain things.

"When Connie said practice? Practice for what?" You raise a brow, doing the sheets for your bed, your eyes averting to Sasha.
"Oh, he plays for a baseball team around here. Paradis' Titans? I don't reckon you would know them since you're not around here." She starts folding some of your clothes and putting them into some drawers.
"No, I can't say I've heard of them. Are they big around here?"
"Well, I would say so." Sasha exclaimed, "They're getting up there, they have 9 times winning streak at the moment."
"Wow, that's pretty good," You say as you finish off making your bed. "I could write about them,"
"OMG! Right, you're a journalist?" Sasha looks at you excited, she seems genuinely interested in your career. "Yeah, I am. It's been my dream job since I was little,"
"That's really cool, I will be excited to read your work." She compliments, "Heh, thanks..."

You two maintained talk about work and your intentions. To your surprise, Sasha was easy to talk to, she seemed to know how to keep a conversation going and to that you were relieved.

"What about you? What do you do?" You start putting your empty suitcases away, while Sasha is putting some of your final clothes of yours up into the closet.

"Oh, I don't have a very interesting job, I work in a restaurant but I enjoy it." She finally finishes putting everything away and sits on the edge of the bed. You also finish putting all your clothes away and sit next to her on the bed. "Well, as long as you enjoy it that's all that matters, right?"

"Exactly," She affirms confidently laying back.

All of a sudden someone bursts through the door and makes it clear that they're home. "Sasha! I'm back! I bring food!"

"OMG! Hitch is back, I'll introduce you." Sasha smiles as she jumps up from the bed. "Oh, uh right okay!" Sasha takes your hand and pulls you from the bed and takes you to the kitchen.

That is where you saw a 5'6 blonde girl, her hair was cut into a bob and it was nicely styled. She wore a pair of skinny jeans a pink sweater and white sneakers. She turned and her green eyes looked at you and Sasha.

"Oh, hi! You must be the new roommate, I'm Hitch. It's nice to meet you." She smiles at you, "Hey, I'm Y/n. It's nice to meet you too." You smile back, "You like Curry? I got some extra if you'd like some?" She asks then turns back and sees Sasha already getting out the food from the bag. "Sasha you could at least of waited?"
"Nope! I am very hungry, so duty calls." She takes a plate from the cabinet and starts dishing out the food for herself. You and Hitch both laugh at her eagerness, "You better not take all of it!" Hitch furrows her brows walking over and taking the food that was meant for her from the bag.

Sasha sat down on the couch and turned the TV on, Hitch dishes out the food for the two of you. You both sat down with Sasha and talked about your job and why you're here, similar to the conversation you were having with Sasha earlier.

You took quite a liking to the pair, they were both friendly and funny. You enjoyed their company, you didn't have many close friends at home but now you felt you were finally going to have some.

After you had finished eating, you were still talking about whatever. You were getting to know them, their jobs, their lives.  Hitch told you about how she's in law school hoping to become a lawyer at a big-time law firm. You told them more about your job and what it would entail. It was nice talking to people about it.

It was late and you had explained how your first day was tomorrow, you said your goodnights to each other and your head to your room. You grab your pyjamas and head into the bathroom, shower, get changed and brush your teeth. You make your way back to your room and get into bed. You grabbed your book from the side of your bed and read for a bit, you were interrupted by your phone buzzing. You grab it and see a text from Marco.

Marco
Hey! just wanted to say I'll see you at work tomorrow, you've got this!

You
Hi! Thank you, I appreciate that. See you tomorrow. :)

You can't help but feel content, you were a nervous wreck but it was actually working out for you. Although you were still nervous about work tomorrow, you tried to put your thoughts aside and lay down. You close your eyes and eventually drift off.

~~~
It was now morning, you were fast asleep, and the sunlight was now peeking through the curtains. It was silent but wasn't until your alarm started blaring through your room, that you woke up at the loud sound. You reached over and turned off the alarm, you sat up and yawned.
You got yourself ready, you showered and got changed. You wore a white cami top along with a white knitted cardigan, you paired it with a black pencil skirt and tights. You looked at the time on your phone to check the time and see how long you had until you needed to leave.
[7:45 am]
You had to be at your work at 8:30, you had 15 minutes to kill before you had to get the bus. The bus would take 20 minutes but you knew it was always best to be there 10 minutes early.
You made your way into the kitchen to grab something to eat before you left. That's where you saw Hitch making pancakes, "Good Morning." The girl looked at you with a smile. "Morning," You reply, opening the fridge and grabbing a bottle of water.
"Where is Sasha?" You ask closing the fridge door and sitting at the island on the little stools. "You will never catch Sash up at this time," Hitch laughs. "She works at restaurants so she always has afternoons or evening shifts,"
"Well, she's definitely lucky," You admit with a laugh, Hitch laughing with you. "Yeah..."
"Do you want a pancake?" She asks you turning back to face you, "Yes please."
She served a pancake on a plate with some fruit and puts it in front of you.
The two of you talk while you eat, you finish up and say goodbye. You make your way to the door and grab your long light brown coat and your black knee-high boots.
"See you!" Hitch yells before you leave, "Bye!"
You wait at the bus stop and get on the bus once it arrives. You sit on the bus near the back by the window, plug in your earphones and let the music play as the bus starts moving.
[ > playing: the less I know the Better by Tame Impala]
The bus finally stops at your stop, around 20 minutes later. You get off and walk the final 5 minutes to the building of your work. The building was tall and plain, it didn't look very exciting not that you were expecting much.
You approached the doors and inhale before entering, there you see a desk that you assumed was the reception. The nerves had risen once more and you couldn't help of think about 10 different ways this could go.
