If you're guilty of something, no matter how jolly your surrounding is, how successful you are, how much they praise you, you always have this constant feeling of nagging within yourself that is like a continuous reminder that what you did was wrong and uncalled for.
You realise it when the time has already passed, when you've already spoken those hurtful words, when you've already damaged a person who was broken beforehand.
Jungkook feels the same way. After waking up from his nap, he saw that the house was empty. His husband was nowhere to be seen. His mind kept going back to what happened earlier and he felt horrible about it.
So he decided to go and meet his younger brother, Jimin. Spending some time with him would distract him from the bad feeling he has been having since he woke up.
"So why did you suddenly want to meet up? We're anyway going to have a family dinner this Saturday." Jimin says, putting his controller away. He and Jungkook have been playing games for a while because the older refused to talk to him as he is in a really bad mood.
"So now I need a reason to meet my own brother?" Jungkook gasps dramatically, making the younger roll his eyes.
"You know that's not what I meant, hyung. I can clearly see that you're sad and you're not sharing it with me. I know I can't force the information out of you but--- seeing you sad makes me sad." Jimin pouts. Jungkook chuckles. They are super close and they rarely fight. They are the ideal siblings to each other that you and I can never be.
"Come on, Chim. Don't talk like an ex lover who just got dumped." Jungkook laughs. Offended, the younger grabs a cushion from behind and starts hitting Jungkook with it.
Jungkook grabs another cushion to protect himself from his brother. This results in a cushion fight. While hitting each other, one of the cushions tears apart. They look at each other with wide eyes.
"I didn't do it." Jungkook throws the remains of the cushion and raises his hands in defense.
Jimin's eyes widen and he points at him accusingly. "It was definitely you who tore it."
"But it was you who hit it too hard."
"Hyung, it's your fault." Jimin crosses his arms and glares at him.
"It's not and even if it is, I'll just go home. You're the one who lives with our parents anyway." Jungkook smirks. "You're an idiot!" Jimin exclaims, smacking the back of the older's head.
Jungkook playfully glares at him but they end up laughing again. They can never have a serious fight.
After a few minutes, Jimin places a hand around Jungkook's shoulder and shifts closer to him. "Do you still not want to talk to me about it?" He asks.
The grey haired idol sighs and looks at him. "I'm so disappointed in myself." He says.
Jimin's eyebrows furrow together. "Why? Should I be disappointed in you too?"
Jungkook chuckles and shakes his head. How does Jimin manage to light up his mood in a not so easy situations as well? Maybe that's just his charm.
"It's just--- I went home last night. You know I don't usually go there---"
"Yes, because Taehyung lives there." Jimin interrupts him, shaking his head. He loves his brother but he hates how he avoids Taehyung. He literally has no reason to do that because Taehyung's a sweetheart in Jimin's opinion.
"Yes." Jungkook sighs, his hands going in his hair and slightly pulling them in frustration. His brother is quick to hold his hand though and he removes it from his hair, "You don't wanna go bald just yet, hyung."
"I'm just annoyed at myself. I went home and the meeting with him--- didn't go well." Jungkook confesses, feeling bad for his attitude towards his husband. Even though he has never treated Taehyung like a husband, he has to admit the fact that he is still legally wedded to him. Maybe he accepted that fact a long time ago, but he never talked about it openly with anyone else.
"Do you wanna talk about it?" Jimin encourages him to speak.
Jungkook shakes his head. He doesn't have the courage to accept what he did out loud because he knows that if someone spoke to him like that, he would've responded the same way Taehyung did.
"Are you sure?" Jimin asks one final time. Jungkook nods. He knows that his younger brother is very close to Taehyung. They are each other's brother-in-law but more than that, they are each other's friend. It would hurt Jimin if he finds out what his older brother did to his friend.
"I'll get going now." Jungkook stands up to leave. Jimin stands up as well.
"Why did you go to that house then if you didn't want to meet Taehyung?" He asks. Jimin just believes that if they don't get along, they should stay away from each other.
"I didn't want to stay at the dorm alone during the break, Chim."
"You could've come here."
"I was drunk and my drunk mind directed me to go there." Jungkook sighs and turns to look at his brother. "I'm going now. See you on Saturday." He says before walking out of the house.
Jimin wants to ask why he is going back there in a completely sober state then when he went to that house just because he was drunk. But before he can even ask the question, the older is out of sight.
----------------------------------
Jungkook enters the house which is very quiet again. His dorm is never this quiet. Feeling hungry, he walks towards the kitchen. Maybe he could make something to eat for himself.
He goes to the refrigerator and opens it but he gets shocked when he sees the fridge nearly empty. There are a few bottles of water, some juices, bread, an egg and nothing else.
Does Taehyung not eat at home? Or did he forget to do grocery shopping? He wonders. He takes out two breads and the egg. He makes a quick toast and omelette.
While eating, he hears some sort of a whimpering sound. His eyebrows furrow in confusion as he gets up from his seat, leaving his toast and omelette on the table.
He follows the sound, his heart beating a little loudly because Taehyung lives here alone and he isn't here. So who is making such sounds. Jungkook prays for sasaengs to not be around. He remembers how one sasaeng followed him inside the hotel when he was in Japan. That was really scary.
But when Jungkook's eyes fall on the little creature lying on the carpet in the middle of the living room, he sighs. So it's his husband's little dog that was making such sounds.
The grey haired idol walks closer to Yeontan and crouches next to him. He gently strokes his fur as the dog keeps whimpering. "Awww little one, what happened to you, hmm?"
Yeontan looks at him and moves closer to him. He rubs his face on Jungkook's thigh and something sparks within him--- a feeling of affection perhaps. You see, Jungkook has always loved dogs but he never got to raise one. He was always busy for that.
Now that he thinks of it, Taehyung had once informed him through one of his texts that he bought a dog. He sounded so happy through the text and Jungkook was jealous of him.
When Yeontan whimpers again, Jungkook puts his hands around him and picks him up in his arms. "Are you hungry, little one?" He asks, nuzzling his fur.
"Let's get you some food." He says, walking to the kitchen. He thinks that the reason why the little dog looks so drained of energy is because he must be hungry. Taehyung hasn't been home since morning.
Jungkook looks around the kitchen, trying to find his food. After searching for a while and finding nothing and the little one in his arms still whimpering, he starts contemplating with the idea if he should text Taehyung and ask him about Yeontan's food or not.
Should I really text him?
Won't he feel weird if I text him first all of a sudden? He is so confused with his thoughts but then he decides that indeed he should text Taehyung because he isn't doing that for himself but for Taehyung's own dog who he may have taken a liking for.
Jungkook
Hi...
I was wondering if you
could tell me where your
dog's food is...?
After sending the texts, Jungkook stares at his phone while Yeontan sleeps on his lap with an empty stomach. Jungkook feels bad about it.
Soon two blue ticks appear at the bottom of the chat, meaning Taehyung has read his text. But when no reply comes for the next few minutes, Jungkook wonders if his husband is ignoring him. Well, after how he talked to him, he would ignore himself too.
Jungkook
Hey
Don't ignore me!
At least not when it concerns
your own dog
Jungkook stares at the texts again and this time, the blue tucks appears quicker than the previous time.
Taehyung
I wasn't ignoring.
I was gonna reply when
my boss called me.
Also, my dog's name is
Yeontan fyi.
And his food is in the third
drawer beside the fridge.
Jungkook stares at the text for a minute too long. Out of habit, he doesn't reply again and starts taking food out for Yeontan.
He takes the food out and pours it in a bowl which he found in the same drawer. He then places the bowl in front of Yeontan.
"Hey, Yeontan. Wake up. Here's your food." Jungkook says, shaking him up. It takes his a few belly rubs and sweet name calling until Yeontan finally wakes up.
As soon as his eyes fall on the bowl of food, he hungrily jumps on it. "Aww, you must be hungry. You have a cute name, Yeontan. You yourself are very cute." Jungkook praises him, rubbing his back lovingly.
After watching him eat so peacefully, he starts feeling bad for treating Yeontan badly in the morning too. After all, the little dog has no role in whatever problem he and Taehyung have.
Taehyung.
Jungkook suddenly remembers that out of habit (or bad habit), he left him on read again. He pulls his phone out of his pocket and goes to the chat screen of his husband.
He starts typing a message and deleting it again and again. Can you blame him? They are not each other's chat buddy and it's Jungkook's first time texting Taehyung first. After not finding an appropriate reply for a while, an idea pops up in his head.
He turns the camera of his phone on and clicks a picture of Yeontan to send it to Taehyung.
Jungkook
Yeontan says thanks for
telling me where his food
is so that I could feed him.
After that, Jungkook waits for Taehyung to reply again. It feels weird to wait for his reply. He never did that before. He simply never cared. Since he has nothing to do during his break, maybe that's why he is waiting for Taehyung's reply.
Soon his phone beeps with a message. He decides to read it from the notification because he doesn't want the other to think that he was waiting for him to reply by viewing his text instantly. Talk about the famous idol's big ego!
Taehyung
I got caught up at work
and was worried about him.
Thanks for feeding him!
Jungkook sighs reading his text. Even after everything that happened, Taehyung is talking to him nicely. He should do something nice too, right? Like give and take?
He should definitely do that.
So with that thought in mind, he opens an online shopping app on his phone and starts browsing through it.
--------------------------------
A sigh escapes Taehyung's mouth as soon as he keeps a foot in his house. He is so tired. He had a lot of work today. His training period is going to end soon and he will be dealing with 'real' situations as Seokjin likes to put it. Taehyung can't help but be nervous. He knows that he would have to deal with a lot of people from now on and he isn't exactly good at doing that.
A loud "woof" breaks Taehyung's chain of thoughts. He looks down and smiles when he sees Yeontan standing near his feet to greet him.
"Aww Tannie, you're here to greet me?" Taehyung smiles widely, picking the puppy up in his arms and walking further inside the house.
A delicious aroma envelopes the house. It smells familiar to his mother's cooking. Where is this smell coming from? He wonders because he never cooks for himself. He just gets take out or eats with Seokjin when he cooks.
Confused, he walks into the kitchen and when he sees Jungkook standing behind the kitchen counter, stirring something in the pan, he gets shocked again.
"Jungkook? What are you doing?" He asks in a soft voice. The idol wasn't aware when Taehyung came back so he jumps at the sudden voice.
When he looks towards the door, he sighs. "Oh, you're back?"
"As you can see." Taehyung says in a 'duh' tone. Jungkook can make out the bitterness in his tone but he chooses to ignore it because he knows that the reason behind it is he himself.
"Welcome back." Jungkook smiles at him. Taehyung's eyes become slightly wider. Did Jungkook just smile at me? His inner fanboy screams. Well, yes he is a fan of BTS which includes Jungkook too. But he likes the idol Jungkook and about his husband Jungkook, he is not so sure anymore.
"Uhh... thanks." Taehyung, being the sweet soul that he is, replies even though he wants to ignore him. He wanted to ignore his texts too but then they were concerning Yeontan so he couldn't exactly do that.
"Why don't you freshen up until I serve the dinner? It would be ready in a few." The idol suggests. Taehyung's eyebrows shoot up suspiciously. Jungkook is being oddly nice to him and that is really weird.
"Go quickly. You don't want the food getting cold." Jungkook says, signaling him towards the door. Sighing, Taehyung nods, leaving the kitchen to take a shower to relax his body and mind.
-----------------------------
After almost twenty minutes, Taehyung comes back to the kitchen where he finds Jungkook carefully plating the dishes he made.
A faint smile appears on Taehyung's lips when he realises that this scene looks exactly like the cooking episodes of Run BTS. He laughs when he suddenly remembers how Jungkook was supposed to make glazed sweet potatoes and he added a lot of sugar to it, making the dish stick to the plate like an adhesive even if he turned the plate upside down.
Jungkook looks up from the plates when he hears Taehyung's melodious laugh. When the younger makes an eye contact with him, he raises an eyebrow as if asking 'what?'.
Taehyung laughs some more before he says, "I just remembered your glazed sweet potato dish from Run BTS." Jungkook chuckles at his words but then stops. He looks at Taehyung in utter confusion, "You watch Run BTS?"
"Yeah." Taehyung shrugs, helping his husband bring the food on the table. At this moment, they appear like a normal couple. They look like they don't have a hundred problems in their relationship.
They are being civil.
That's what Taehyung has always wanted. It took a long time to happen though. He feels a little sense of accomplishment because for the first time in his life, Jungkook looks so approachable and he is talking to him nicely.
"You stan BTS, don't you?" Jungkook comments, taking a seat on the dining table after arranging the food. Taehyung sits right in front of him, pouting a little because he thought Jungkook would pull out the chair for him but he didn't.
"For me, BTS is--- hope. So yes, I do stan them. In fact, I love them." Taehyung replies. Jungkook finds his answer rather surprising. He is glad that the younger stans his group but the 'hope' part stuck in his mind. Yes, his fans say that all the time because of the difficult situations they've been through but why is Taehyung saying this?
Does it have something to do with me? He wonders.
Before the idol can dwell more on it, Taehyung interrupts his thoughts, "By the way, why did you make dinner?
"I uhh..." Jungkook panics. His plan was to apologise to Taehyung for his behaviour. Heck, he had a whole ass speech prepared for him. But now that his husband is sitting right in front of him, he has forgotten everything--- more like he doesn't have the courage to own up to his mistake face to face.
It's their first time being so civil with each other--- so normal, which is totally abnormal for them. Jungkook's throat goes dry and he realizes that he can't really talk about the topic. Call him a coward. He knows he's being one right now.
So he decides to come up with a lame excuse which was kind of true. "I was hungry and I found the fridge empty. So I ordered some grocery online and thought to make food for myself--- and for you since you were--- running late and I figured you'd want some dinner." The idol says.
Something warm spreads across Taehyung's chest. His husband prepared food for him? He internally squeals because this is what he always wanted.
Had Seokjin been here, he would've told him to not let Jungkook affect him because him suddenly acting all nice is definitely weird. But Taehyung feels happy right now so he decides to just ignore what potentially could've been his best friend's words.
"Thank you. I was starving." He says, with pinkish tint on his face. Jungkook nods, his gaze lingering on Taehyung's face for a bit too long.
When they got married, Taehyung was just eighteen years old. He was good looking back then too but now, he looks ethereal. He has grown into a beautiful man. Jungkook is sure people would usually go crazy to get his attention and he is not wrong.
When Taehyung takes a bite of the various dishes, he almost moans. "Hmm... it's yummy."
"Thanks. I'm glad you liked it." Jungkook says, feeling a sense of accomplishment again because he hasn't cooked in ages.
"Where did you learn to cook from?" Taehyung asks curiously because he's always been told and he knows that Jungkook is a busy man.
"You see, Run BTS makes us do all sorts of things. Also, Yoongi hyung taught me to make a few dishes." He says. Taehyung nods and continues to eat.
An internationally renowned idol prepared dinner for him and they are eating together. Any fan would go crazy even imagining it. Taehyung is too but he is more happy about the fact that he got to have dinner with his husband when they're not surrounded by their family. That wasn't expected from the idol at all.
The rest of the dinner is rather quiet but it was still memorable for both of them.
------------------------------
After a few minutes, Taehyung finds himself in his room. It's also the room which he and Jungkook shared last night. The stylist wonders if they're going to share the bedroom again. Even the thought of it makes his heart thump loudly.
He tries to calm his raging heart down and decides to change into his pajamas. When he comes back from the bathroom, he finds a piece of paper kept on the bed.
Furrowing his eyebrows, he picks up the paper. He starts reading whatever is written on it in a beautiful, cursive handwriting.
Hey Taehyung,
There are a few things I wanted to say to you on the dining table but I couldn't because--- well, you're free to think whatever reason you want to for me not talking about it but I'll say all that here.
First of all, I'm so sorry for what happened this morning. I'm ashamed of myself for saying those rude words to you. I was hungover and my head was pounding but still, it's not an excuse.
I made the dinner for you because I somehow wanted to make it right. I wanted to apologise then but I didn't have the courage at that time, I guess. Which is why I'm writing this letter. Cliché? Yeah, I know.
But I just want you to know that I'm so very sorry, Taehyung. I hope you could forgive me. You can just use that room and call it your own. I never stayed here before so I have no rights to call it mine anyway. As I said, I was drunk and somehow ended up there. I'll take one of the guest rooms so don't worry.
Good night!
-Jungkook
Taehyung stares at the letter in utter disbelief. Jungkook really apologised to him! In all honesty, he never thought the idol would. Taehyung has a broad smile on his face because of the letter.
He pulls out his phone, deciding that texting Jungkook would be a good idea.
Taehyung
Hey Jungkook!
I read your letter.
And I feel guilty too because
I slapped you.
I'm sorry for that.
I hope you could forgive me
too.
Taehyung doesn't even have to wait for more than a few seconds before he sees Jungkook typing a reply.
Jungkook
I started it.
And that reaction was
completely justified.
So it's okay.
I guess we're even now.
Taehyung
I guess we are😂

Hey lovelies! Do you have anything to say about Jungkook's behaviour in this chapter? Do you think his apology would MAKE HIM CHANGE HIS ATTITUDE TOWARDS TAEHYUNG or WOULD HE CONTINUE TO ACT THE WAY HE DID?
If you were in Taehyung's place, would you accept Jungkook's apology? Tell me👀
Since the chapters in this book are very long, it takes a lot of time for me to write. So please make sure to drop a lot of comments to keep me encouraged.
