2025

Being in different parts of the city doesn't stop you and Vinnie from yelling at each other. He's fuming as he grips the phone and pacing across the floor.

"You didn't tell me that we were seeing your parents next week. How was I supposed to know that I couldn't go out of town?" He's starting to lose his temper.

"I'm not saying that you should be a mind reader but it's frustrating to plan stuff with you since your stuff always seems to come first." You reply, annoyed that he doesn't see your perspective.

He huffs. "Sorry for having a career."

"Stop acting like a child. You know that I would support you no matter what. But these days it seems like you don't know how to be a fucking husband."

You know your words are harsh but you can't help it. You can't even count how many fights you two had had over the last two months. But here y'all are, arguing over something ridiculous yet again. You hate that it's become normal.

"Y/N, I don't want to do this right now." You hear him sigh. Still upset, but tired.

"Fine, let's just brush it under the rug like we do everything else."

"I'm not doing that. I just don't have time for this. I called because I just wanted to talk to you but here we are, fighting again. So irritating."

"You're irritated? Because I'd like to tell you what I've been thinking."

"Meaning?"

"That this isn't working." You said and hung up the phone before he would get a word in. Not because you wanted be be rude, but because you were so emotional and felt your throat closing up.

*****

Vinnie had never felt so heartbroken in his life. Driving in his car on the way to Jett's house, he can't stop thinking about how it's wrong to not see you but he needs to collect his thoughts.

He's tired of the fighting and hurtful words. He wants to feel the way he didn't back when he married you. He's not blaming you for any of it because y'all are a team, but it's hard because you had mentioned before that maybe you shouldn't have gotten married and he feels like he's been getting slapped in the face ever since.

That this isn't working.

The words are burned in his mind. Playing over and over. Lack of patience and distance definitely played a role in the stress.

The thought of a divorce makes him break down crying in his car. He never thought it would come to mind. He pulls out his phone and his fingers linger over your contact name but he can't bring himself to call you. Frustrated, he puts his phone in his pocket.

——
"Here." Jett hands Vinnie a bottle of water once they get settled on the couch. Jett knows there's something wrong because Vinnie hasn't said much. He sits across from Vinnie, watching him sip his drink with dark circles under his eyes, looking exhausted.

"You can't go on like this bro." Jett tells him.

"You sound like her." Vinnie sighed.

"What do you mean?"

"Y/N told me that she doesn't think that our relationship is working."

Hearing the words out loud is like a knife in his chest.

"I'm sure she didn't mean it." Jett tried to think positively. "Y'all were fighting, she got mad and said that. I know she loves you."

Jett really does mean it. He's been here since the beginning of you and Vinnie's relationship.

Vinnie shrugged. "Doesn't matter. She said it, which means she'd been thinking about it."

"We all think about stuff. Doesn't mean we believe it or even want it."

"But you're not her. You don't know what's in her mind. Maybe it was just too soon."

"You're 23 years old. Timing is different for everyone, but come on, don't be weak."

Vinnie knows it's easier said than done. "I don't know man. Maybe it's better if we just-"

"Don't even go there."

"Doesn't change the fact that it's an option."

Vinnie stands up, drinking the last of his water and heads into the kitchen.

******

No matter how many times you glance at the front door, it doesn't open. Vinnie should've been home by now.

You two got married two years ago but it's takes its toll.

"You regret marrying me?" Vinnie had asked the first time you had a huge fight and you blurted it out.

"I didn't say that." You told him. That wasn't even what you meant. You were saying that maybe y'all should have waited a little longer. Vinnie getting married at 21 is a big commitment.

He felt tears pooling in his eyes and just stared at you.

"I'm saying how probably waiting would've allowed us to mature more."

"If you feel like this, it's not the marriage, but your feelings."

The words hit you hard. He might be right but you didn't wanna believe it. You loved him and nothing would change.

Thinking about the past made you zone out for a moment until your phone lit up from a text.

Jett-

Vin was at my place but he left. But he's not going home. He said something about divorce. Y'all better not do this

You slowly lock your phone and make your way to the bedroom. You let out some tears as you look out the window. If Vinnie was considering a divorce, then you knew things were bad. You were losing the most important person in your life and had no idea how to fix it.

Suddenly a shooting star flies across the sky. It goes by so fast that you didn't even realize it until it was gone. You closed your eyes and did what you've seen on tv. Make a wish.

"I wish that things could've been different."

You then get into bed and try to sleep.

*******

The sound of an alarm clock wakes you up. You're conscious, but don't open your eyes as your still tired. You reach over to your right to turn it off but your hand doesn't meet with anything. Upon opening your eyes, you see that there's nothing there and you freeze immediately.

In your house with Vinnie, your nightstand is on the right. But there's nothing there because you're not in that room. It's your old one in the apartment you used to rent in Santa Monica when you first moved to California. Back in 2021.

The noise continues as you slowly sit up and look around. Everything was exactly the same as it was when you were here. Down to the decorations and the pile of laundry.

"What the-" you whisper to yourself and finally cut the noise off.

At first you think someone is pranking you but there's no way that's possible. Someone couldn't have gotten this room as detailed as it was. And looking down, you see your old favorite scrunchie that you'd always wear around your wrist if it wasn't in your hair. But over time it got too stretched out and you threw it away. So you knew it was impossible that you had it now.

"I'm losing my mind." You said and buried your face in your hands.

You manage to get out of bed to walk around and it just freaks you out even more. Going back to grab your phone, you almost drop it when you see it's your old one. The lock screen picture is you and your friends, not you and Vinnie like you had before.

With shaky hands, you unlock it to see the date on the calendar.

Wednesday, February 10th, 2021

Then the shooting star and what you wished for pops up in your mind.

I wish that things could've been different.

February 10th is the day you met Vinnie. But you still don't understand. You're still convinced that this is just a very realistic dream that you're gonna wake up from. But nothing happens, everything stays the same.

Your phone starts ringing and your friend Nailea's contact shows on the screen. You answer it, already knowing what she's about to say.

"Good morning bitch!" She cheers over the phone. "I hope you have that nice dress for tonight!"

"Nai, I think I was drugged."

"I thought you were joking about going to that frat party at UCLA. Girl, you should've brought me with you." She sighs, not taking you seriously.

"No, I'm telling you, something is wrong with me."

"You feel sick?"

"No! I just woke up this morning and it's the fucking past." You breathe out, pacing around the room.

"I'm sorry, but what?"

"I woke up and it's four years ago."

"I think you're high, lowkey."

You're so annoyed but can't blame her.

"Nai, listen to me. Yesterday it was 2025, I had a husband and was living in a different place. I made this wish and woke up in the past. I already know what's going to happen because I lived it."

There's a long pause and you think she's going to hang up.

"Did you watch Time Trap before bed?"

"It's not a joke!" You snap. "Today's the day I meet Vinnie at that party tonight."

"Vinnie...Hacker? The new guy that I've known for a couple weeks now?"

"Yeah. Let's just meet up and talk."

"Um...okay." Nai replied, unsure about all this.

*****

"So you're not fucking with me?"

Nai looks you dead in the eyes after you've been trying to explain this to her for an hour. Time traveling doesn't exist, you both know it. But you know what you're talking about.

"You think I'd waste all this time and energy on a joke?"

You bury your face in your hands. You never meant for this to happen. That a desperate cry for help would mean restarting the whole relationship.

"Alright so let's say I do believe you," Nai starts off. "What exactly will happen tonight?"

"I'm gonna meet Vinnie at the party."

"Vinnie Hacker?"

"Yeah."

"And marry him?"

"Uh-huh, in about two years."

"Wow that's trippy." She huffs.

You two sit in silence on the couch.

"Alright so what do you wanna do?" She asks.

"What do you mean?"

"Well you have two options. One, you go and do everything the same. Or two, you don't meet him. Or you don't go at all."

"You have the chance to not go through with it. You said you were close to a divorce. You have the choice to not put yourself through that."

"But then I'd go about life as if he never existed." You told her.

Nai shrugs. "Sounds bad, but yeah."

The scenario never occurred to you. To pretend like nothing happened. Vinnie is one of the most important people in your life.

Talking with Nai gives you a lot to think about.

******
You fumble with the dress strap on your shoulder and you and Nai get ready. It's one of those cliché influencer parties. You're not really a part of that world, you got invited because your close with Nai but it's still cool that you can go.

"It's gonna be fine." She grabs your hand to calm you down.

"What is he doesn't even notice me?"

"Then that'll be hella awkward."

"Oh come on, I'm have so much anxiety."

"Okay I'm sorry. But I'm sure you'll catch his attention."

You know exactly when you're supposed to meet him and your on full alert the whole time inside. A song by The Weeknd starts playing and you start to remember what happens:

You were sitting by yourself, sipping your drink. As you look around, your eyes land on a tall figure, not too far away. The guy he's talking to says something that makes him laugh. His smile is so pretty. Seeing Vinnie in real life instead of online was different.

But a drink spilling on you brings you back to reality.

"Oh shit, I'm so sorry." The brunette guy apologized immediately and grabs some napkins from a counter nearby and starts to help you clean up. "I wasn't looking, that's my fault."

"It's okay." You were about to just get up and go to the bathroom when someone else comes.

"Troy, this is the worse attempt I've seen to flirt with a girl."

Vinnie stands next to you, smiling but Troy rolls his eyes. You turn to look at him but it's like you've lost your voice and you have the same effect on him. Vinnie's lips part like he wants to say something, but just stares, ignoring Troy who's talking to him but honestly you don't hear him either.

"Hi," he finally says. "I'm Vinnie. Sorry about my friend."

"I'm Y/N, and it's alright."

"You guys done?" Troy interrupted.

"I don't know, are you?" Vinnie retorts.

Even though Troy spilled his drink on you, Vinnie was the one that helped clean up more. Then y'all talked and talked and finally before you left, you two exchanged numbers. Three days later, you guys went on your first date and the rest is history. Or it's going to be.

Now back in reality, your sitting around and you see Troy walking towards you with his drink, not really paying attention to what's in front of him. You only have a couple seconds to decide whether to let it happen or not.

You got a second chance, but what if it's for Vinnie and not you? Without wanting to waste his time, you get up to go to the bathroom seconds before Troy made his way over.

***

Avoiding meeting Vinnie so something you didn't think you'd be doing. You two actually made eye contact several times but you try to stay away from him so he doesn't think that the gazes is an invitation to come over. Nai can't believe what happened but as your friend, she supports your decision.

Going to sleep at night, you hoped to wake up to the normal time, but unfortunately you're still stuck in the past. But there's nothing you could do except for go on about your day.

Nai said something about going to a friends house to help film a YouTube video and she offered you to come with her to get out of the house.

Upon pulling up, you're speechless as you drive up to the hype house. A.k.a where Vinnie lives. But Nai informed you that she was told that Vinnie was going to be gone all day so you could come and go before he gets home.

You meet Thomas, Mia, Alex, Kouvr, and everyone else although you already know who they are. Thomas and Nai started filming whatever they have planned and you get comfortable talking with the others. After about 45 minutes, you felt a headache coming on.

"There's some Tylenol on the dining room table. It's back there." Kouvr pointed in that direction.

"Thanks." You replied and got up and got a glass of water.

You turn to go to the dining room which was right next to the kitchen but freeze at the entrance as you lock eyes with Vinnie who's sitting in the chair on his phone and he looks at you like he knows you.

Is he in the past like me?, you thought but immediately dismiss it.

"Hey, I saw you at the party last night!"

You two didn't even interact, so you're surprised he recognized you.

"Yeah...I guess."

He pushed himself up and runs his hands through his hair. Something that always made you weak in the knees.

For the split second you have, you analyze him. His hair and clothes are slightly different than his most recent self. And his hair is a bit longer. You can't believe your face to face with his 18 year old self again.

"I'm Vinnie." He introduced himself although you know him like the back of your hand.

"I'm Y/N."

"So are you a new hype house member?"

"No, I'm just here with Nai. I'll be leaving soon." You say and grab the bottle of Tylenol pills for your headache, about to walk away but he keeps talking.

"Sorry if I didn't greet you earlier, I've just been tired from going to the gym everyday and working out for hours."

"Wait why are you doing that?" You ask but realize once he replies.

"I have this boxing match coming up on a couple months. I've never done anything like this before. The training is so intense. Not to mention I have to drive an hour and thirty minutes there and back. Thank God they let me leave early today."

He looks excited and nervous just thinking about it but you smile to yourself, already knowing the outcome.

"Yeah I've heard workouts related to boxing is tough. But you got this."

You walk away after, going back to the group.

"Hey, Vinnie wants to see you." Thomas told you after some time went by.

"He asked for me personally?"

"Yeah. He's in is room about to stream. We were talking and when I left, he asked if you were still here because he wants to tell you something. So I said I'd come get you."

You furrow your eyebrows in confusion and head up the stairs.

"Turn left and he's at the end of the hall!" Thomas calls up at you.

You walk in there and see him at his desk and you knock on the door that's already open to get his attention.

"Oh hey!" He smiles and takes off his headphones. "I'm about to start my game."

"Cool." You say and walk over to him. "Did you need something?"

"To be honest...I was hoping I could get your number. If that not too forward."

It's so cute how nervous he is.

"Sure." You nodded and grabbed a piece of paper and a pen next to his computer, scribble it down and hand it to him.

"Thanks."

You make eye contact with him while he's sitting down in the chair and your heart skips a beat. You're sure he feels the same way.

After walking out, you think about the situation. No matter how hard you tried to avoid meeting him, fate wasn't going to allow that to happen. You met him anyway and now you have to chance to fix the mistakes for a better relationship.

*******

You made a note of things that should be different. What you say and don't say. What you do and don't do.

Vinnie doesn't waste time asking you out. You're so excited because now you can be better at being perfect for him. Throughout the years, you've gotten to know what he likes and doesn't like and you can apply it now.

You had three major things that should be changed.

1. Don't wear the crewneck, sweatpants, and a ponytail on the first date. Look good for him.

2. Don't eat so much food on the second date.

3. Don't call him after the second date, let him call you.

You look through your closet and pick out a white cropped shirt, black leather pants, and a puffer jacket, knowing that he's gonna take you to Boa Steakhouse and you wouldn't stand out too much.

He arrives on time and as you are about to meet him in the parking lot of your building, you stop and see that his outfit is too casual to he going to a nice restaurant.

(Let's just say he's wearing this:

"Hey." You catch his attention.

"Hey! You look great!" He greets you but now you're not feeling confident in the outfit.

"Where are we going?" You ask.

"You know, I should've told you what to wear. Don't get me wrong, you look great, but it may not be the best outfit for tonight."

You don't feel mad because it's not his fault but you knew that you definitely wasted time.

"It's cool, I'll just go change."

You go back and come out in about 10 minutes, having ditched the jacket and switched the pants with denim jeans.

"Ready?" He asks with a wide smile and opens the door for you.

You nervously sit through the car ride, trying to figure out where he's going. Your surprised by his sudden change of plans. Although you shouldn't be since you changed the way you met him which meant that everything since then will be different.

There was a bit of a drive before he pulled up to Franklin Canyon Park. It's so dark and you get this uneasy feeling in your gut.

"Um, I don't think we're supposed to be here."

Vinnie doesn't say anything. He just smiles and continues to ride up and through this canyon. When he gets to the top, there's a beautiful view of the city in front of you.

"Oh my god." You gasp.

"You like it?" He asks and slides his hand around your waist to pull you closer as you look over the edge.

"Yeah, it's so pretty."

You've always wanted to come up here at night. Future Vinnie knows because you've talked to him about it before.

"How did you..."

Turning to him but he just shrugs shyly.

You two lean against the front of his car and talk while looking at the view. Unfortunately, you know a lot about him already and try to balance it out with over sharing about yourself. It's not on purpose but when you realize that you're doing it, the mood is kinda awkward. And Vinnie is good at masking his feelings.

"I had a great time, thank you." You stop in front of your door and smile at him. The urge to kiss him is getting stronger than ever.

"I'm glad I could surprise you."

"You sure did."

There's a moment where you both don't know what's coming next but Vinnie finally breaks the silence.

"I'll call you later, okay?"

You felt relieved that he wants to see you again.

Stepping closer, he leans down and you're sure that he's going to kiss you. But right before he gets to your lips, it's like he changes his mind and kissed your cheek instead.

Heartbroken, you watch as he makes his way to his car, but you go inside before he leaves. The feelings overwhelming you. Sure, the date itself was great, but you felt like that bond wasn't there like on your actual first date.

******

You spent all last night beating yourself up over what happened. You starting telling yourself that he wouldn't call but you wouldn't be surprised if he didn't.

"You know it's so good spending time with you." Nai says sarcastically as you two sit in your room.

"What?" You asked, not really paying attention. She rolls her eyes.

"I'm sorry. I just want him to call me."

"You made him fall in love with you once. You can do it again."

You're about to open your mouth to reply when your phone starts ringing with Vinnie's contact.

"Hey!" You said, probably a little too cheery.

"Hey." You can hear his smile. "What's up?"

"I'm all good. What about you?"

"I was thinking about you actually."

"Really?"

"Yeah. And I was wondering if you wanted to go out again?"

You look at Nai and she gives you an 'I told you so' look.

"I would love that. But tell me what to wear this time."

"I got you, don't worry. How's later today?"

"Perfect."

"Bet. I'll text you later." He says before saying goodbye.

"You got this bitch!" Nai exclaims.

She says it so confidently that you start to believe her.

******

Your mind screams at you while while you eat your salad and across from you, Vinnie eats his lobster Mac and cheese. It looks amazing and you wanted that too with bread on the side but you can't. You promised yourself that you wouldn't embarrass yourself by eating so much.

Thankfully, Vinnie took you to the same restaurant as he did all those years ago but you got something different to eat and you regret it.

You pick around your plate, eyeing the tomatoes and your even a little annoyed that they didn't put enough dressing on the salad but you don't wanna bother the waiter and ask for more.

"You sure you don't want anything else?" Vinnie asks.

"Yeah I'm fine."

Vinnie doesn't know how to feel about you. He was genuinely interested when he saw you at the party and then later talked to you at the house but things didn't turn out the way he thought it would. His interest is still there but he feels like something is missing.

As he sits, he feels disappointed. He sees you picking at your food and he feels uncertain about you.

Once both of you finish eating, you decided to walk around the city. Talking feels easier but you feel like there's still a barrier. But it's like Vinnie is keeping his distance and you don't know what to do.

When it starts to rain, y'all run back to his car and he drives to your place.

"I had a good time." He tells you but you're not sure if he's serious or just trying to be nice.

"Yeah, I like spending time with you." You respond but you realize it's not going how you envisioned. "Do you wanna come inside for a bit?"

"I can't. I have training in the morning and it's gonna be all day so I have to head home."

"Oh okay." You nod sadly.

"But...I'll talk to you later, okay?"

You just nodded and tried not to cry.

*****
Four fucking days have gone by and not a word from Vinnie. You didn't wanna call him, to prevent looking to eager.

But fuck it. You call him to see what's up.

"Y/N, hi!"

There's an awkwardness in his voice that probably meant that he wasn't going to call you and you feel like a clown.

"I hope I'm not calling at a bad time."

"Nah you're good. How are you?"

You decided to get right to the point.

"I'm good. I was calling to see if you wanted to meet again or..."

You hear a sigh on the other end.

"Listen Y/N, I think you're amazing. But I don't think we go well together."

At first you don't know what to say. The man you married now thinks you're not the girl for him.

"Wha-what went wrong?"

"I don't really know. I think it's my fault mostly. I had high expectations for some reason. And it didn't happen how I pictured it."

"What did you picture?" You asked in a shaky voice.

"I don't want to get into the details."

"No seriously! I want to know."

"Okay," he sighed. "When I first saw you, I thought that we'd be able to bond easier. But for some reason I feel like you were holding yourself back."

"Anything else?"

"Y/N..."

"No Vinnie, I won't get hurt. Just tell me."

"You didn't seem like the girl to get glammed up on the first date. Don't get me wrong, you looked great but it seemed forced. It didn't seem like you. And the last time we went out, did you actually want that salad? Sorry if this comes off weird. I know that I don't know you like that but still."

"No, I didn't want it." You whispered.

"That's kinda what I'm talking about. Why didn't you get whatever the fuck you wanted?"

You didn't answer him. So many thought going through your mind.

"I'm sorry Y/N. You're awesome but it's just not going to work. I'm glad we met and I wish you the best."

"Me too Vinnie."

He hands up and the new reality sets in. The weight on your chest is heavy and you can't believe that changing little things that you thought were for the better would result in you never getting together.

The thought of losing him is so bad. And you didn't just lose him. But he lost you too.

You realize that you need him and you love him. Separation and getting a divorce would've been easy. But now you know that you need to fight for your relationship.

You give yourself time to cry it all out. Then you get into the shower and hop into bed, trying to keep yourself calm.

"I'm so sorry Vinnie." You whispered to yourself.

And you picture the best moments with him as you drift to sleep and make another wish.

I wish I would've been more careful with my words.

You wake up to the sound of noise in the bathroom. You know exactly who it is and try to cover your ears with the pillow. For some reason, Vinnie can't be quiet at night.

Wait.

Your eyes pop open and you almost have a heart attack. You sit up and your back at the house you share with Vinnie. You run your hands over the sheets before taking it all in and then aggressively kicking them off, getting out like a psycho and going to the bathroom as fast as you can.

The door was already open and you stop at the doorway to see Vinnie running the water in the sink. He looks over at you, dark circles under his eyes but you burst into tears and hug him.

"I'm so sorry Vinnie." You choke out, arms wrapped out his neck and he holds you just as tight.

"I'm sorry to babe. So sorry."

He's crying too which makes you more emotional.

By the time you have the energy to let go and look at him, your eyes are probably red but it doesn't matter because you have him back.

"Babe I, I-" he tried looking for the right words and you wipe his tears away. "When I got home, I was sleeping on the couch and had this weird dream."

"What dream?" You ask.

"I mean it didn't feel like a dream, although I woke up from it. I went back in time, meeting you for the first time. But everything was messed up and you dumped me. Sent me a text saying that you had a great time but don't think it'll work out and how you wish me the best."

Ain't no way he experienced the same thing.

"Same here." You said and he gives you a confused look. "But you were the one who dumped me."

Chills run down his spine.

"Okay, I don't know how that happened but I don't care. I'm just glad I didn't lose you."

"I hated my life without you." You told him. "Not gonna happen again."

"I wanna work on us." He says shyly.

"Me too."

"Okay so how do we start?" His fingers unintentionally slide under your shirt but you don't mind.

"I'll do anything."

You feel the weight fall of your shoulder and know that things will finally be good again.

Vinnie rests his forehead against yours and you savor the moment.

"I love you." You whispered.

"I love you too."

He kissed you and picks you up, ready to get back into the married life with you.
