Maggie
"Naranasan mo na ba magkagusto sa kaibigan mo?"
That's the question that I overheard by my classmate before I went out for lunch. I can't help but wonder that question, Did I experience it? I think I am and I'm kinda afraid that, that certain person will find out my feelings for him.
I sighed before entering the ExeCom office, there were some officers inside and they greeted me so I greeted them back. I took the files that I needed to submit later to the council. While busy filing the papers I heard a slight knock and the door swung open.
"Maggie" a cold voice called me, I turned my head, Luthor entered the room with his hand behind him. Luthor waited until the other officers went out of the office. Then he faced me, "I want you to help me for the process of our activity proposal later after class"
"Okay, I'll be there" I calmly answered but the truth is I'm nervous inside.
"Why are you here? Isn't it lunch time already?" he asked. "Huh? Uhhh oo, may kinuha lang ako para mamaya"
"Do you want to eat lunch with me?"
I was stunned in my place, I shouldn't assume anything, he just asked me for lunch. But why am I feeling happy? Why did my heart beat so fast?
"H-Huh?" I said almost whispering. He's looking straight at me so I avoided my gaze and cleared my throat. "I don't want to decline your offer Luthor but I promised Rhea to have lunch with her, I hope you don't mind" I slightly smiled at him.
He nodded his head, "Its okay, I'll be on my way. Let's just see each other later." I nodded before he walked out. I watched his back until he shut the door. I sighed in relief, I didn't notice that I'm already holding my breath while talking to him. I held my chest, I can still feel my heart beating like a drum.
I didn't know when this feelings started, I just woke up one day and I just saw myself smiling whenever I see him, my heart began to beat hysterically whenever he's close to me, I can't even look at him in the eyes for a minute. Yes, its the Vice President, its Lucian Thoren Mendez whom I like.
I immediately went out and went to the cafeteria, I looked around to look for Rhea, thankfully, I saw her sitting on the near table. "Sorry, ngayon lang ako, dumaan pa ako sa office eh" I said to Rhea upon sitting in front of her.
She smiled at me, "Its okay, medyo kararating ko lang din"
"Why are you alone? You're not with your club mates?" I asked curiously. She shook her head, "I left them in the club room so they can have an alone time together" she said while grinning.
"What do you mean?"
She looked around before drawing close near me to whisper so I moved forward to hear what she is about to say, "Feeling ko may something kay Lori at Loki, kakaiba yung tinginan nila. Kaya iniwan ko na muna silang dalawa." she reclined on her seat still grinning.
My forehead furrowed, "Huh? Anong something?"
"Oh my gosh Mags, I didn't know you're dense. Or slow ka? What I mean sa something ay parang may gusto yung dalawa sa isa't-isa" she stated.
"How did you know?"
"I'm quite observant Mags kaya nga nasa QED club ako, I know when a guy or girl like someone. You can observe it by their actions."
I began to become nervous, if Rhea noticed my feelings to Luthor I'm doomed. I don't want anyone to know that I like someone.
I changed the topic and volunteered to order for us. I went to the counter and fall in line. After I got the tray of foods, I went back to our seat and started eating.
"Hey Mags" I looked up to Rhea and throw a question look at her. "Napansin kong tahimik ka ah, may iniisip ka ba o may bumabagabag ba sa 'yo?" she asked.
I avoided my gaze and drank my water, "W-wala naman" I replied.
"I know you have, wag mo na i-deny. I can see through you, we've been friends for so many years already. Tell me what's bothering you?"
I heaved a sigh before I wipe my mouth using the tissue. "I just overheard it by my classmate, Naranasan mo na bang magkagusto sa kaibigan mo?"
I observed her reaction, she looked up while her hand on her chin. "Hmm, hindi pa naman. Why did you asked?"
"Its not from me, I just overh—"
"OMG do you like someone na ba Mags?"
"I said its not fro—"
"Si Luthor ba?" my eyes widened, how did she know? Or is she testing me? I kept my mouth mum, and didn't answer her question.
We fell silent for a minute, until she grinned and nodded her head, "Tama nga may gusto ka nga kay Luthor" she stated as if she's reading my mind.
"I-I didn't li—"
"Yes you do Mags, akala mo ba hindi ko napapansin tuwing magkasama kayo ni Luthor? The way you looked at him, ibang-iba kaysa kapag tumitingin ka sa ibang lalaki" she said confidently.
I want to deny it again but I guess its not bad to tell her about my feelings, she's my bestfriend, and I don't think she'll expose me to Luthor. I heaved a sigh before nodding slowly, "Okay, okay I like Luthor, happy?"
She giggled and grinned at me, "OMG dalaga na ang kaibigan ko, akala ko never ka magkakagusto sa lalaki."
I rolled my eyes, "Ano ba"
"Anyway, if you like him pala, bakit hindi ka umamin?" I almost choke by what she said, "A-ano ka ba? Wala akong balak umamin 'no" I held my cheeks, I can feel them burning.
NO. I CAN' T CONFESS MY FEELINGS TO LUTHOR. NEVER.
"Why not? Paano kung gusto ka din pala niya?" that's the last question that stucked on my mind after our lunch.
I'm on my class, listening but I couldn't understand anything. Rhea's question kept ringing on my head.
What if Luthor like me too? I didn't know what to feel, of course I'll be happy but Luthor liking me? Its too impossible.
I was busy typing on my laptop, I was re-writing the request letter that we will submit to Sir Morayta. We had a meeting earlier and now only Luthor and I were left here at the conference room. We're taking overtime to finish all our duties before going home.
After proofreading the letter I saved it on a flash drive, Sir Morayta will read it first before printing it and he asked me to save it on his flash drive. I stretched my arms and back then reclined on my seat. I looked at Luthor who's also busy on his laptop. We've been here for about an hour already.
I stood up and went out, there's a pantry inside the SC office, I prepared a chamomile tea that Luthor's like. He like drinking this whenever he's busy or taking his free time. I went back to the conference room while holding a small tray. Luthor is still busy typing on his laptop.
"Tea?" I asked, offering the tea that I made for him. "Oh, thank you. Just leave it here" I placed the saucer with the teacup at the table. I sit again on my chair after I returned the tray.
I don't have anything to do and I can go home already but I chose to stay here and wait for Luthor to finish his work. I reclined on my seat, took my book and tried to read for a while to kill some time. But I really can't focus on my book, I kept glancing at Luthor. I want to stare at him more than reading my book.
He looks so attractive when he's focusing on his duty, I remembered last time he said to me that he want to become a lawyer then a prosecutor. I can already imagine him in his suit while seriously prosecuting inside the courtroom. He just looks so fine when he's serious, he's also dedicated to his work and that's one of the things that I like about him. But I know what he really wanted, he want to be the President of the Philippines, he even asked me to be his campaign manager if ever and I agreed. Wherever he go or whatever he pursue as long as its for good, I'll support him.
I immediately avoided my gaze when he looked at me, he almost caught me staring at him. "Are you done with the request paper?" he suddenly asked, I looked at him, he reclined on his seat and start drinking his tea.
"Uh yes, I already saved it. I'll just give it to Sir Morayta later. How about you?" I asked back.
"Yeah, I just finished it" he simply replied.
I nodded at him, silence ensued inside the conference room. I don't know what to say anymore, and why do I feel awkward?
'Just confess to him Mags, malay mo gusto ka din pala niya' Rhea's voice echoed in my head, she keeps pursuing me to confess my feelings to Luthor. For a second I almost entertain that idea not until I heard my fellow ExeCom officers talking earlier.
"Anong meron kay Maddie at Lucas? Bakit parang hindi sila nagpapansinan ‘di ba magka-close sila, halos hindi na nga mapaghiwalay 'yang dalawang 'yan"
"Hindi mo ba alam? Umamin si Maddie kay Lucas na gusto niya siya, eh may iba palang gusto si Lucas at friend lang daw turing niya kay Maddie"
"Sayang naman friendship nila, nagbago na dahil lang nagkagusto yung isa"
If I confess my feelings to Luthor, things may change, just like my fellow officers, my relationship with Luthor would become different, I don't want him to ignore me and me as well just because of my feelings.
"Just try Mags, loving someone is a risk to take, you can't move forward if you wouldn't do anything" Rhea's voice echoed again in my head.
I closed my eyes tightly before looking at Luthor again, I calmed myself and cleared my throat. "Can I ask something?"
"Sure, go on" he replied.
"You're friends with Ms. Emerson right?"
He shot a quick glance at me, "I treat her highly as our President, nothing more, nothing less" he stated.
"But do you also considered her as your friend?" I asked again.
"I think so?" he replied, "Hypothetically, you're friends with Ms. Emerson and she confessed to you that she like you, what will be your reaction?" I asked bravely.
He suddenly throw a glance at me, his forehead slightly furrowed. "Why did you asked?" he said using his cold voice.
"Can you answer me first?" I pushed my eyeglasses using my index finger, I'm trying to remain calm. I'm asking him some weird questions that we never talk about.
"Your questions is eccentric Maggie" I ignored his remark and continued staring at him as I wait his answer. We stared at each other for a moment until he avoided his gaze and put down his tea. "I never experience someone confessing to me. And I don't know what to react in that moment, but.."
I swallowed the lump in my throat, "But if she did or anyone did, surely, I wouldn't and can't reciprocate their feelings. I don't want any distractions right now, liking someone is just a waste of time." he stated.
My heart shattered into pieces, its a good decision that I chose not to tell him my feelings. If ever, I'd be more heart broken than I am right now. I already knew the ending but at least I tried to ask him about this matter.
"Why did you asked?" he asked again. I tried to smile at him, trying to cover the pain that I'm feeling, "Doesn't matter, natanong ko lang kasi napag-usapan namin kanina ni Rhea."
"Its unusual to you to think about this matter, do you like someone?" I was surprised by his question but I tried to remain calm, "No" I replied. He just nodded before standing up, "You should give the request paper to Sir Morayta now, so we can go home already." I nodded at him.
I breathed deeply, after I asked that question I just realized that its really impossible for Luthor to like me. You can't blame me, I can't risk our friendship over this feelings of mine. Its okay Maggie. You'll be okay, your feelings for him will fade soon. Its better to keep it, Its better to hide your Unspoken Feelings.
I stood up, took my things and went out as I promised to myself to forget my feelings to Luthor.
