"Find her! And bring me the head of whoever dared to take my lover!"
At Esdeath's command, her troops moved out and turned the village upside down. Houses were stormed into, people were questioned and killed. Her troops used any means necessary for information but no one knew anything. Without any answers, her commanders all feared for what she would do when they returned without you. Esdeath had always taken care of them but there was no telling what would happen for failing to bring back the only thing she cared about.
"If you have something to say then speak. Do not waste my time."
The man quickly kneeled before her as he took of his hat.
"General Esdeath, I'm afraid that we weren't able to find her. None of the villagers knew of what happened to her. We left no stone unturned in search of Captain (l/n)."
Esdeath turned around to face what was left of the village.
"Take a group of men that you deem necessary enough to search the villages nearby. I want you to make it your top priority to find her. Do you understand?"
"Yes, ma'am!"
He quickly leaves before Esdeath changed her mind and killed him.
"I will not rest until you're back in my arms, my love."

When you woke up, you found yourself restrained. You weren't sure what had happened to get yourself in this position but you made quick work of getting out of your restraints and killing those who had dared to take you. After grabbing anything of value, you ran until you couldn't run anymore. You're body gave out at a nearby village.
"She needs our help."
The man and his friends rushed to your side when they saw you fall. With the help of his friends, they took you to his place where you could rest and recover.

During your recovery, you had learned that you couldn't remember anything. It seemed like the last couple of years of your life had been erased. Your family was dead and you had no friends so you decided to stick around. The people who had found you ended up taking you in. You told them everything you could remember and how you had managed to escape. When they learned of your training, they begged you to teach them.
"So will you train us?! Please!! We need to be the best if we want to help the village."
They all gave you puppy dog eyes even they knew it wouldn't work on you.
"Are you sure? I'm not going to go easy on the three of you. If you really want to join the Imperial Army then I'm going to train you until your bodies give up."
"We're sure!"
Tatsumi answers for the three of them. With their mind made up, you worked them to the bone.

It wasn't until a year later that you declared they were ready. The four of you packed your bags and made your way to the capital.
On the way, the four of you were attacked by a gang of bandits that ended up resulting in the four of you separating. You couldn't find your friends and you couldn't stick around in the dangerous forest. You knew how to fight but you couldn't take on an entire gang on your own. So you reluctantly headed to the capital in hopes that you would bump into them.

It's been two years since your disappearance and Esdeath hadn't lost hope. She continued to send her troops to villages but they always returned without you. If the Prime Minister hadn't asked for her to return, she would've still be out there with her troops to search for you. She had been ordered to rest and couldn't handle any military affairs.
Esdeath spent her days in the capital walking down the streets and enjoying the various foods that she used to buy for you. Eating your favorites always made it feel like you weren't gone.
"One (favorite ice cream), please."
The man overflows her cone with ice cream before handing it to her. After paying, she thanks him and makes her way to sit at a nearby table. Just as she's about to take a seat, someone bumps into her from behind. Unable to catch herself, she ends up falling with person on top of her.

You had no money and you were starving. Stealing was a crime punishable by death but you had no choice. You were going to die either way if you didn't eat anything so you had to risk it.
Approaching the food vendor, you waited until he looked away before grabbing several loaves of bread. You quickly shove them in your back and walk away as fast as you could.
"Hey! You there! Come back!"
Once you heard his yelling, you took off. You were exhausted but you still pushed your body to run. You turned around to check who was following you when you slammed into someone.
"I'm so sorry!"
You felt bad for simply leaving the woman on the ground but you were still being chased. You hurried to grab your bag but she got it first.
"General Esdeath! We're so sorry! She was stealing!"
The guards finally caught up to you. One of them helped Esdeath stand and the other grabbed you before you could take off.
Hearing that she was a general made you panic. Now you weren't going to be able to join the empire.
"Please! I'm so sorry! I was hungry!"
The woman turned around, her eyes widening when they looked with yours.
"(y/n)!" She pushes the guard away from you and pulls you into a tight hug. "I thought I was never going to find you. You were missing for two years!"
"H..how do you know my name?"
The woman pulls back and cups both of your cheeks.
"Y..you don't remember me?"
You shook your head, making the woman frown.
"My name is Esdeath. I should've known this was the case. Otherwise you would've found me a long time ago. It's alright, darling. I'm going to help you remember."
She stood up and held out her hand for you to take. You're reluctant to take it but do so when you see the soft smile she gave you. You could see how everyone around you was afraid of her but she didn't look scary.
"Why are you being so kind to me?"
"We...." She starts answering your question but trails off when her eyes land on the ring on your hand. "You kept it all this time?"
You pulled back your hand from her to play with the ring that always comforted you.
"It made me feel safe. It's the only thing that I believe was from the years that I had lost."
She smiles and takes your hand to kiss the back of it.
"That is correct, my love. It was the ring that I proposed to you with."
"We were going to get married?"
You asked quietly."
"Yes. Unfortunately, you were taken away from me before we could ever plan the wedding. When I find the people responsible for it, I'm going to make them wish they were never born."
The way she casually said she would torture someone should be scary but it wasn't. The woman's presence before you made you feel safe. You knew she wasn't lying about the two of you getting married.
You wrapped your arms around her waist and buried your head in her chest as you hugged her.
"I took care of them. There's no reason for you to search any longer. I'd like to finally go home."
"If that is your wish then I will grant it."
The two of you began to walk hand in hand through the market but stopped when your stomach suddenly growled.
"Maybe something to eat first?"
She laughs and leans down to press a kiss against your forehead.
"I shall have a feast prepared for you when we return home. For now, I'm sure some (favorite food) will suffice?"
You eagerly nod, your mouth watering at the thought of it. It had been so long since you had one.
"I'd like that."
Esdeath took a detour and took you to your favorite stand. While you ate, she began to fill in the blanks of the years that you had gotten lost.
