Gu Shao's hand stopped in midair when he heard Gu Xi's words.
"Very serious matters?" His eyes flickered some when he looked at Gu Xi.
Was she going to tell him that she had met some random strangers online and now she wanted to meet them in real life?
Or that she was going to confess to him that she had registered to the Tianchuang Competition using his identity?
Gu Shao thought to himself: This girl seemed to have done quite a bit behind his back.
Or was it something else that he didn't know yet?
Being looked at by Gu Shao nonchalantly, Gu Xi had a guilty conscience. She could read the unspoken "the organization had already saw through you and you are better off to come clean yourself then we naming your crimes" from his look.
Regardless, she doubted that Gu Shao would know about her dreaming about the content of the novel in her dreams.
Gu Xi grumbled to herself, thought it over, and decided to start with looking sincerely at Gu Shao and asked in a roundabout way, "Dad, is our Gu family very rich and powerful? Like, you know...... the kind that has such high status that others dare not offend?"
Gu Shao would never have guessed that that was Gu Xi's "serious matters". He was dazed for a brief second and had a rare surprised look on him.
"Why do you ask?" asked Gu Shao with his brows raised as he looked at Gu Xi.
Gu Xi did not answer Gu Shao's question. She asked again urgently, "Are we?"
"You can say that," replied Gu Shao. The Gu family has always had deep heritage. As much as they had reined themselves in and became more lowkey recently, the Gu family is still the same Gu family."
Upon hearing that, Gu Xi thought about it some and asked, "If that's the case, are there very many families that have the Gu family as a target?"
Gu Shao, "......"
He was expected the next thing out of Gu Xi to be whether she was considered a Second Generation Rich or a Young Mistress of a prominent family or something to that effect. He didn't expect that to be Gu Xi's primary concern.
Gu Shao frowned slightly.
Before Gu Shao said anything, Gu Xi continued to speak in a solemn manner. "Like, will any of them want to take revenge on the Gu family or that they will want to use evil means to bring down the Gu family because they are jealous of the Gu family and didn't the Gu family to overshadow them?"
"Yes, there will be those," said Gu Shao. His look already starting to turn solemn.
Being strong and powerful would, doubtless, bring about enemies. There were very few who would dare to take any actions against the Gu family but many who would love to see the Gu family fall apart. Regardless, they did not possess the ability to bring it about.
Those were all true but, looking at the solemn look on Gu Xi along with the frown on her, Gu Shao had no idea how that had occurred to her.
Nevertheless, Gu Shao quickly recalled Gu Xi's guard against the outside world that she tried very hard to hide but had always been there.
Was it some sort of insecurity on her part?
–– She worried that she would lose the protection of her family once again and that she would go back to her days at the Lin family?
"The Gu family will not come crumbling down," said Gu Shao with a sigh.
He paused for a little and then, giving Gu Xi a serious look, said, "Even if something was to happen to the Gu family in the future, I, as your father, will still provide you with the best protection."
That was the promise that Gu Shao gave Gu Xi.
Gu Xi's eyes widened when she heard that. That wasn't what she was asking but she was still touched by what Gu Shao had said, nonetheless.
"No." Gu Xi shook her head. "I just want to remind you, Big Uncle, Little Uncle, and Grandpa to be careful. You can't trust even those that had been around you for many years and seemingly have a good relationship with you. They still might be plotting against the Gu family behind you."
Gu Shao's lips twitched when he heard that.
"You will need to watch out for these individuals. And with regards to the secrets of the Gu family, em......"
Before Gu Xi could finish talking, Gu Shao had already given her a knock on her forehead.
Gu Xi, her hand over her forehead, said, "I'm not" done yet......
