Hello, writer here, I just wanna say quickly, this is my first time writing and publishing a story..so sorry if the story isn't that great😅

Chapter 1

(Y/n) pov:
I'm taking my daily walk in the forest with my black cloke following behind me covering my many daggers, throwing knifes and katana, I see a apple tree so I jump up it and sit on the branch while grabbing a red apple and start eating it
Finally some good apples. I said in my head
I hear someone walking in the distance so I climb higher up into the tree where I can't be spotted easily, I was surprised to look down and see a lady with bright red hair. Holy shit...then I see her pick a flower
"That's another one down" the bright red haired lady says before I saw a man approaching her
My my, sneaking up on people is not very nice...although I can't complain
"Hey there rosy-locks" the man says before the lady spins around quickly but the guy knocks her out easily then tosses her over his shoulder
Hm..although I'm usually not prince charming..this girl interests me in a way...I thought and followed the man while keeping a distance.
A bit later we make it to a cabin type house, the man went inside. let's find a way in shall we...I thought while starting to look around to see all the windows are covered by bars.
Smart..but I have a feeling little red will be ok..he probably wants to sell her because of her hair...its very rare..same with my eyes..I thought while sitting on a tree where I can see red locked in a room

Nightfall

I suddenly hear a loud thud from the house making me jump a bit being caught by surprise
"The hell?" I say under my breath as I jump to the window
I see red running my way but I quickly hide next to the window as she checks each window to see if there are bars..then she disappears from view so I jump to a tree and see her jumping out the one next to me landing face first into the grass
"oww" she says holding herself
ouch.. that's gotta hurt... I thought before the man came up again
"That little stunt didn't have much affect on me" he says so the lady smirks before attempting to run
But the man grabs the back of her shirt and pulls her against the wall pinning her with a torch next to the ladies head so I sit in the tree watching for a moment ready to strike if needed
"even if you escape and find your way back, there'll probably be someone else following you with worse intentions. Wouldn't you be much safer in the care of a nobility or royalty? you'd be protected and live in luxury, doesn't that sound vastly more appealing so, what do you say red?" The man says aggressively
"...I say no. I think I'll take a different path." The lady says with determination
Hmm...why do you interest me so much little red?..I thought
"that's the wrong answer!" The man shouted before raising his hand with a torch
I take out my throwing knife and throw it at the man's sleeve pinning him to the wall, I hear a gasp from the lady as I jump down from the tree
"I mean, I'm no royal but I'll be nice enough to protect little red for awhile" I say not looking at them having my hood up
"You? You're a assassin, probably going to do the same thing I was going to do" the man says and laughs
My eyebrows furrow in displeasure and disgust quickly so I run to the guy and punch him hard enough to knock him out.
"Thank you" the lady says next to me
"Don't worry little red, I'm not going to sell you for your hair or anything bad..." I reassure and she smiles
"I know you won't, the way you reacted to him saying what he did said it all" the lady says as I peek at her from my hood to see her smiling
"My names shirayuki, what's your name" she asks holding the smile
I was shocked by her calmness to be next to an assassin, until I hear rustling in the bushes so I quickly turn and run to the person, he swings his sword to me but I jump over him and kick his back making him stumble face first into the grass so I get on top of him and put my blade to his neck
"alright, alright, I surrender!" The man says with white hair
"Zen!" Shirayuki exclaims slightly panicked making my eyes widen slightly
"uh..zen? Secon-" "Second prince of clarines" I start saying before he interrupts me so I remove my blade and get off of him
"My apologies your highness" I say bowing to him slightly as he stands
great a prince, just what I needed for being nice.
"no need, you may rise your head" zen says wiping dust off from himself
I rose but kept my head down a bit having my hood not showing my eyes
"shirayuki are you alright?" Zen asks
"Yes, I'm perfectly fine" shirayuki says before zen turns to me as I'm watching his feet
"then who's your friend?" Zen asks "I can tell she's an assassin" he adds
Jee am I that noticable
"she never told me her name.." shirayuki says
"Well then, what's your name" zen practically demands
"I would rather not say my name your highness, but one of them I go by is shadow." I say still looking at his feet
"alright, 'shadow', why did you save shirayuki?" zen questions
"Would you rather I didn't?" I question sarcastically
Shirayuki liked my joke though she giggled and zen clenched on to his sword so I sigh
"she pretty much did everything on her own, I just pitched in where there was physical danger.. but to answer your question, she interests me, not because of her hair, I could care less about that, it's her attitude and words." I say keeping my head low
"..remove your hood please" zen asks politely
"Why so?" I ask hesitantly as polite at I could but it came out a bit harshly
"because I like being look at in the eye when talking" zen says more sternly
I sigh before removing my hood and looking at zen dead in the eye
"I have no intent of harming or anything bad to little red." I say kind of harsh before seeing zen's eyes widen same with shirayuki's
"Your eyes are beautiful.." shirayuki says but I stay silent while I stare at zen
"that's why you saved her, her hair is like your eyes, midnight blue is rare, is it not?" zen says calmly making my eyes harden
"like I said. I could care less about her hair..but that is half of the reason." I said harshly but luckily the man starts waking up
thank god
"its about time you woke mihaya" I say crossing my arms
"you know him?" Zen asks glancing at me
"..I wouldn't say 'know him' I would say know about him...ain't that right mr.nobility" I mock
"you bitch. Who are you." The man barks pinned to the wall
I walk over to him and put a dagger to his throat while looking in his shocked eyes
"I wouldn't call myself a bitch. So watch what you say to me boy." I warn him just for the fun of it to intimidate him
"your eyes...you're that assassin I've been hearing about...midnight isn't it.." he mocks so I pressed the blade against his neck more as blood drops from it getting a bit mad hearing that name
"That's not my name..your highness..do you have any questions.." I ask still staring at mihaya
"what were you planning to do with shirayuki" zen asks and mihaya starts moving
"ah, ah, ah..I wouldn't do that in your state right now~ so..answer the question so I can get going" I say tauntingly
I really do hate being with the royals
after I see the fear in mihaya's eyes I take my blade away from his neck and stand to the side
"well.. I would let her hair grow out..then as people saw her I would get rich again as I sold them strands of her hair..." mihaya says bluntly
How'd I know...
"shirayuki will not be a pawn for you or anyone, got it?." Zen says harshly
"so your names shirayuki" mihaya says
"do not speak her name!" Zen commands
"calm down, are you her father or something?" Mihaya says unamused
"you are seriously asking for it." Zen says shaking his sword in front of mihaya and so I smirk trying not to laugh but zen backed off
"shadow, quick question, was this guy alone?" Zen adds
"from what I saw..yep, pretty lonely guy" I say placing my hands in my pockets
"shirayuki, did you see anyone else?" Zen asks the redhead
"uh..I dont know, I didn't see anyone else" shirayuki says uncertain
"if he's by himself, we can just take him down the mountain, we won't have to escort him all the way to the castle, we'll hand him over to the officials down at the base" zen says while walking to shirayuki
"Castle? What am I dealing with? Who are you" mihaya questions
"Zen"
"huh...wait..as in zen, the second prince of clarines?" Mihaya asks realizing he's in deep shit
"bingo" I say rocking on my heals for a moment
"as well as shirayuki's friend, same with shadows" zen adds making my eyes snap to him
"huh? Sorry, I didn't get the memo that assassin's and prince's can be friends that easily.." I say confused and zen chuckles
"you saved shirayuki..and I would like it if you would accompany shirayuki and I back to the castle" zen says so I sigh
I guess I should've expected punishment for helping someone for once.
"And what punishment shall I receive your highness?" I mock with a sigh
"punishment? No..actually I meant for you to be one of my aides.." zen says as my eyes widen in shock
"ok, let me get this straight..you want me..an assassin..that could kill you at anytime.. and you know nothing about..to be one of your aides?" I say shocked and confused but shirayuki and zen just laugh at my reaction
am I missing something?...
"that sounds just about right" zen spoke
"I know you won't kill me, if you had that intention, you would have done it by now" zen adds as matter of fact
"eh..I guess your right" I say with a shrug
"so..will you be one of my aides?" Zen asks holding out his hand so I stay silent for a moment..
I dont like prince's at all..but this one..seems different...
"shadow" shirayuki says making my head turn to her
"please do.." she adds so I turn shocked before snickering as I look away
"heh..I suppose if it's what price zen wishes..and by the way..its (y/n).." I say while walking away a bit but before I do I see shirayuki and zen smile
"(y/n) it is..then call me zen" zen says so I smirk and look back at him
"as you wish your highness Zen or should it be prince zen?" I mock him
"just zen, no formality." Zen says easily getting annoyed so I laugh slightly
"this will be fun~..I'll be in the tree's since you brought the carriage, and I'm pretty sure you want little red to ride with you, huh, zen." I say looking back at zen as his face became shocked
"the carriage is a bit further ahead, how did you know?" Zen asks me a bit confused
"Lucky guess..well..I'm bored so cya both at the prince's carriage" I say then jump into a tree and start jumping tree to tree until I get to the carriage
I sit on a tree branch and think. one day so far..I stayed awake for twenty-four hours and.. I'm not even close to being tired...just really bored...
a few minutes pass before zen and shirayuki arrive
"finally, that took awhile.." I say bored
"well we're are not as fast as you (y/n)" zen says looking up to me
it's weird hearing someone say my real name
"yea, yea.." I say unamused
Then zen made me ride in the carriage so I wouldn't get attacked by his guards when we get back to the castle

Timeskip: Castle

We had just arrived at the castle when Zen gets out first, then shirayuki, and then me, the two guards at front seemed surprised
"Who's this zen?" The teal haired man asks
"this is (y/n) she's a assassin but saved shirayuki, (y/n) this is mitsuhide and kiki" zen explains shifting his glance back and forth between the guards and I
"that makes you sound shocked your highness" I say calmly looking at the ground
"well it kind of is" the teal haired man says and I chuckle slightly to his honest response
"Well, dont be shy (y/n)" zen teases so I shoot him a warning glare and mitsuhide turns shocked and kiki is slightly shocked
"your eyes are pretty (y/n)" mitsuhide says but I look back down not accepting any compliments before we all start walking
"so (y/n) for you to be one of my aides you will have to fight kiki" zen says pointing his hand at kiki
"..ok.." I respond so once we get to the fight area/training area kiki hands me a wooden sword
"no thanks, I'll use my weapons" I say walking into the arena still wearing my cloak
"what about your cloak?" Shirayuki asks slightly worried
"dont worry little red, I know what I'm doing" I reassure with a straight face
Then the bell rings so she starts running to me, I dodge easily knowing she'll try to attack me, then I dodge by kneeling down an swiping her legs quickly but she jumps back up, I smirk and run to her pretending to do a roundhouse kick but actually detaching my cloak jumping over her and when I land my eyes glow slightly but I dont know it. Kiki steps back I put a blade to her neck. I do this in a matter of seconds.
Then mitsuhide walks up from behind me, thinking he can sneak up on me I take out my throwing knife and throw it at him pinning him to the wall
"Do you wish to surrender?" I ask kiki while smirking, she smiles slightly
"yes, I do wish to surrender" she says so I take the blade away from her neck
I grab my cloak while zen and shirayuki are clap impressed so my eyes return to normal
"so it has been decided, (y/n) will be one of my aides, and kiki...isn't this your first defeat?" zen asks smirking
"huh?" I ask dumbfounded
"why yes it is" kiki answers calmly with a nod
"..wait..no one has won against kiki?" I ask confused
"Not even mitsuhide" zen says
"Speaking of mitsuhide, he would like to have some help here?" Mitsuhide asks making me chuckle
"Why? I think you look great there" I say jokingly and everyone else laughs
"But I guess I'll let you go, I want my throwing knife back" I add as I walk mitsuhide and take my blade out of the wall
"And you couldn't pull the blade out yourself mitsuhide?.." zen says jokingly before we all start walking again
I keep getting surprised looks but I'm used to it by now until we stop at a room
"(y/n) this'll be your room" zen says opening the door
"awe, you're to kind" I tease before walking in and looking around the room
It speaks to much royalty..I dont like it...I thought before walking out and start following everyone to- I'm guessing zen's office
"Zen, I have to go, I need to study" shirayuki informs so I look at her curiously
"Study? For what?" I ask a bit confused
"nothing really, just discovering new herbs around clarines" shirayuki says
"Ok, before you leave shirayuki may I speak to you?" Zen asks
"of course" little red responds
I smirk to realize what's going on between them two before mitsuhide nudges me so I look over to him and kiki to see their looking at me, mitsuhide motions me to follow them so I nod in agreement as mitsuhide, kiki and I separate quietly leaving zen and shirayuki alone
"Would you like a tour? Or are you going to be heading to your room?" Mitsuhide asks as we all walk in a random direction
"Well I'm definitely not sleeping anytime soon..I figured you both would be guarding zen so I'd be bored and walking laps around the castle" I explain
"You had that all planned out didn't you.." kiki says smiling slightly
"that I did" I respond almost casually
"well then, we should get back to zen" mitsuhide says
"I'll visit little red..once zen talks to me and tells me to be her bodyguard" I say before mitsuhide looks at me shocked
"I'm taking a guess that's how its going to go with how zen acts around little red" I add noticing mitsuhide's expression
"Why do you call shirayuki 'little red' anyway?" Mitsuhide asks confused as we start walking to zen's office
"Dont know, it's the first thing that popped in my mind when I saw her so..I stuck with the name"
"I see.." mitsuhide says then we get to zen's office
We knock as zen says to come in, we do so to see shirayuki left and zen's doing paperwork
"(Y/n), I would like you to be shirayuki's bodyguard starting tomorrow, make sure nothing bad happens" zen says and I look over to mitsuhide to see he's kind of shocked so I lean over to him
"Told you" I say quiet enough for him and kiki to hear
"I can do that your highness, but you'll have to gain my trust as well..I don't like royals..so you'll have to try hard, but I suppose the least I can do is obey your orders" I say before I start walking to the window
"well..good luck with the paperwork" I add before jumping out the window before I hear zen calling my name as I land gently
"(Y/n), I would like you to meet me tomorrow morning so I can explain my reasoning for asking you to be one of my aids" zen says from his balcony
"as you wish, I'll be there when it's a good time I think little red will be fine" I say then turn and walk away
I walk out the castle to see its almost nightfall
"My my, I should get going before I look suspicious" I say then ran to town
Once in town I look around for apartments then I see a window with a light on, I get curious and jump up to it
Luckily it was shirayuki's window so I knock on it, she jumps a bit before turning to me, once she see's me she opens her window
"Hey there little red, how's it going" I ask in a teasingly tone while sitting in the window
"Good, what are you doing here? You scared me" shirayuki asks
"Ouch, it sounds like you dont want to see me" I say jokingly offended
"No no no, that's not what I meant, I was just confused on why your here, shouldn't you be with zen?" Shirayuki asks looking at me
"Nope, I am now your bodyguard..but of course you can tell me to go away whenever you'd like" I say leaning against the window frame
"Oh, that's great! I really wanted to get to know you better" shirayuki says making me shocked
you're not at the least scared of what I can do huh..or what I have done...I smile slightly
"as you wish, so herbs huh, do you want to become a herbalist?" I ask curiously
"Yes actually, I'm going to take the exam soon, I want to become a herbalist in the castle" shirayuki says so I turn slightly confused
"Why dont you ask zen, I'm sure he'll let you become a herbalist in a snap" she looks down sadly
"no...I want to do things on my own..I don't want to use zen to my advantage" she says slightly hushed and harshly
"I see...well nobody is after you at the moment, I'll be back in the morning, I got to do a few things" I say not wanting to keep her awake
"Ok, be careful, oh and (y/n).." shirayuki says making me turn to her
"accept my compliment please..your eyes are beautiful." She adds making me frown
"thanks... good luck on the exam little red, and get some sleep" I jump out her window and go to the castle
I hate my eyes..it's the thing that killed my brother..same with royals.
I get to the castle and walk laps in the castle remembering where everything is, I keep seeing the guards but I ignore them, then I get bored so I climb up to the roof and watch the stars...
But what I didn't know is that someone had been watching me...
