Chapter 231 - But the Song Corporation was the biggest investor in this competition! (1)

“You!”

Song ZhiNing!

Looking at the girl who was walking over to her with a bright smile, Su Ran’s expression froze for a fraction of a second and she reflexively took a step back.

Truth be told, she was a very cute girl but she was also bad news for her.

If the male and female leads were fatal to Su Ran as the cannon fodder female supporting character, then their pair of children were fatal to her Su Han.

It was no surprise that Song ZhiNing, given her age and experience, would be in this type of competitions. Su Ran just didn’t think she would run into her.

At that very moment, Su Ran really wanted to pretend that she didn’t know her or just turn around and leave.

Unfortunately, she didn’t have too much time to mull over it. Song ZhiNing had already jogged and bounced over to her.

“Instructor Su! It really was you!” Song ZhiNing’s eyes beamed when she saw Su Ran. She then asked, “Are you here as a judge?”

“No.”

“So Instructor Su is here as a competitor?” Song ZhiNing was a little surprised. In her mind, Su Ran was good enough to be a judge.

Perhaps she should talk to her dad or her godfather and have them make Instructor Su the judge for the professional team.

As she was thinking that, she eyes lit up all of a sudden and she said, “Oh, yeah! My dad came here with me today. He’s over there and will be right over. He will be able to meet with Instructor Su!”

In the end, Su Ran had only taught one lesson at the Song’s. Song ZhiNing was very disappointed by that and, now that they had run into each other, she hoped that her father would be able to convince Su Ran to continue teaching her piano lessons.

“Your, your dad?” Su Ran’s eyes widened when she heard Song ZhiNing’s words.

Song ZhiNing’s dad was the male lead!

How was she this unlucky?

“Em, ZhiNing, there is something else that I need to attend to, so…”

Su Ran was about to look for an excuse and make herself scarce. Unfortunately, she was only able to get half of what she wanted to say out when she saw a tall silhouette appeared next to Song ZhiNing.

Su Ran’s heart sank.

When she looked again and saw clearly the face of this 30-something man in full suit, she turned paler.

Wasn’t this Song ZeYu, the male lead of the novel and the man who original owner could never forget?

Ever since she had transmigrated over and accepted the fact that she was a cannon fodder female supporting character and that Su Han was her son, Su Ran had been super careful not to have anything to do with the male and female leads and any of family members or matters.

Little had she expected that after all of her carefulness, she would run into the male lead under such circumstances.

Memories upon memories from the original owner’s time began to pop into her head. The man in her memories overlapped with that of the man standing in front of her. The only differences were that the Song ZeYu standing in front of her was more mature and gloomier than the one in her memory.

As the male lead of a novel, naturally, Song ZeYu was all round very outstanding.

Nevertheless, Su Ran wasn’t sure whether it was the lack of filter or that she had too much hatred toward the male lead, she didn’t feel that the Song ZeYu standing in front of her was as mighty as he was portrayed in the novel or in original owner’s memories.

How come she felt that he was a couple notches below Su Han’s father, a man who showed up out of nowhere?

When she was looking at Song ZeYu, Lu Shao somehow popped into her mind and she reflexively compared the two.

Nonetheless, no matter what, it would not change the fact that Song ZeYu was still the male lead of this book nor would it affect Su Ran’s instinctual fear and resentment toward him.

Run! She must run away from him!

That was Su Ran’s very firm belief.

Low and behold, Song ZeYu had already noticed her by now and Song ZhiNing was holding onto her hand affectionately and was about to introduce the two of them.

Sure enough, before Su Ran could even pull her hand back, Song ZhiNing was already saying to her, “Instructor Su, this is my dad.”

Having said that, Song ZhiNing turned toward Song ZeYu.

“Dad, this is Instructor Su who had given lesson to my brother and I at our place.” She did not forget to add at the end, “Instructor Su is super good!”

“Is that so?” Song ZeYu smiled at his daughter after he had heard that and then turned to look at Su Ran.

With just 2 meters of distance between the two of them, Song ZeYu was a little stunned by the person in front of him the first second that he saw Su Ran.

Nevertheless, he felt that she looked quite familiar in the next second.

Truth was, President Song had come into contact with a lot of people everyday and not very many of them were memorable to him. Unfortunately, this once Young Miss Su was one of the memorable ones.

Staring at Su Ran, Song ZeYu’s look began to freeze on him. The pleasantries that he was about to say lodged in his throat.

“It’s you!” Song ZeYu spit out two words. Apparently, he had just figured out who the woman was.

All of a sudden, the way he was looking at Su Ran went from distance politeness toward a stranger to shock and habitual resentment.

“Eh? Daddy, Instructor Su, do you two know each other?” Song ZhiNing looked back and forth between the two and asked curiously.

“No, we don’t!” said Su Ran reflexively before Song ZeYu could say anything.

“Uh, I have something else to tend to. I shall take off now,” said Su Ran to Song ZhiNing while avoiding eye contact with Song ZeYu altogether, her neck stiff.

Having said that, Su Ran grabbed Li Yan and quickly left the competition filming area.

Frowning deeply, Song ZeYu looked long and hard at the direction that Su Ran took off or fled, to be precise.

It only made sense that she was fearful of him. After all, he was the one who pressured the Su family to banish her. Afterward, it was Lin XingEr’s idea to trick her into the red-light district using his resources but he also remained silent after founding out about her plan.

He had neither the time nor the interest to find out what had happened to her after that, or whatever she was even still alive.

In addition to feeling surprised when he ran into Su Ran again, his feelings toward her also became very complicated.

Stupid, crazy, spoiled rotten… he had always felt resentful toward Young Miss Su from the very beginning.

Subsequently, as “Su Ran” tried to set Lin XingEr up, revenge her, and tried to hurt her times and again, Song ZeYu became hateful of her in additional to just feeling resentful.

In the end, Song ZeYu realized that Lin XingEr, the woman whom he had once appreciated and liked, was no kinder nor classier than Su Ran.

But that did not change that fact that he was very resentful toward Su Ran.

He may have noticed the truth. But that only meant that Lin XingEr and Su Ran were cut from the same cloth, with the exception that Su Ran was dumber than Lin XingEr.

For the sake of the children, he must marry Lin XingEr. Whatever had happened to Su Ran, however, was all her own doings.

Song ZeYu would admit that part of the reasons that he made the Su family banish Su Ran was a transference of his anger toward Lin XingEr onto her.

In the next 10 plus years in his marriage and as he gradually discovered more of Lin XingEr’s gloomy side and her manipulativeness, Song ZeYu had occasionally wondered whether it was too ruthless to have the young miss who was just 15~16 years old taken all of the blame.

Nevertheless, this only happened far and in between.

After all, as far as Song ZeYu was concerned, Su Ran was not a very important person.

Until now, when he ran into Su Ran again.

Song ZeYu had an inkling that Su Ran had changed and was different than how he remembered her.

In the 1~2 minute of contact earlier, she did not make him feel resentful.

In addition, he seemed to have a different kind of feeling toward her. Nevertheless, he has yet to put a finger on that feeling.

Em, son?”

“It’s me.”

The adolescent boy was just now undergoing voice change. His voice, still sounded like that of a big boy but with a hint of a deepness, came through the cellphone.

Even though it was only two words, the moment that Su Ran heard his voice, she calmed down immediately.

All of the worries and fear disappeared as though it had found an outlet all of a sudden.

“Hello?

“Mom?”

Su Ran was in a zone with the phone in her hand. Probably because he didn’t hear anything from Su Ran, Su Han called out again.

“Yes, yes, I am here.” Su Ran responded to him then something dawned on her. “Why are you calling me this time of the day?”

Su Han should be in class right now!

“Uh, this is phys. ed. class,” replied Su Han. Then he added, “The teacher let us have free time.”

Any other time Su Ran would have told him that he should take physical education class seriously too!

Nevertheless, at this very moment, she wanted too much to hear her son’s voice.

Before Su Ran could say anything, Su Han asked, “Is your competition over yet?”

“Yeah. Just finished. We are back to the hotel room already.”

“Then, did you advance?” asked Su Han after a slight hesitation. His voice stuck up and cool as usual but with an added hint of worry.

“Of course!” said Su Ran loudly.

“You didn’t make it?”

“I made it!”

“Oh.”

“When will the show be airing?”

“Hmm, they recorded it today. I think they will be available online in 3 days.”

“Oh.” Such a long time from now…

After another two seconds of silence, Su Han added, “I’ll watch it.”

“Su Han.”

“Hmm?”

“Son.”

“What is it?”

“Oh, my son…”

“I’m not deaf. Why do you keep saying that?” From the other end of the phone, Su Han frowned with a hint of resentment. He paused for a little then, still not hearing anything from Su Ran, said, “Go ahead, what is it that you want to say?”

“I miss you already,” said Su Ran, feeling blue, as she plopped down on the bed.

She wasn’t certain whether it was because she had gotten used to this son of hers. They had only been apart for one day and she missed him already.

Even though her son could be somewhat annoying, and what he said could be irritable sometimes, he was overall a very reliable boy.

Aye. At this very moment, Su Ran wanted very much to hold on to her son and gripe about the very dangerous scumbag male lead and to hear her big boy said in his cool way, “What’s there to be afraid of?”

On the other end of the call, after hearing what Su Ran had said, Su Han was a little dumbfounded with his phone still in his hand. After a long while, Su Ran finally heard Su Han’s response.

“I said I would go with you but you didn’t want me to.” Su Han gave her a hard time. His voice was as contemptuous and resentful as it could be.

What Su Ran could not see, through the cellphone, was that the teenage boy had a smile with a hint of pride on him as he talked.

“That’s why I am regretting it so much right now,” said Su Ran leisurely.

She was, of course, mostly just teasing him.

If she was to choose all over again, she still would not have him skip school to go with her.

Not to mention that Song ZeYu and Song ZhiNing were both here as well. All the more she would not let her son be there.

“I will go over to yours then.”

“Oh yeah? Okay, you can fly over here,” joked Su Ran.

She heard Su Ran replied to her very seriously, “Okay.”

“Ahem, I was just kidding!

“Besides, I am in City N right now. How are you going to get here?” said Su Ran calmly.

City B and City N were not that far apart, but it was still an hour distance by plane.

Su Ran, once again, felt that it was a great decision to have Lu Shao take care of Su Ran along with his pocket money while she was gone!

“Alright. Alright. I was just kidding,” said Su Ran. Then she added seriously, “I will be back soon enough. You be good in school and you still have to work on your homework assignment even over the holidays. Be good at your dad’s and don’t cause any troubles, okay?”

After Su Ran had gone on and on about it, Su Han nodded reflexively. He then replied seriously, “Okay, I will.”

Su Ran felt much better after Su Han’s reassurance.

Su Ran finally hung up reluctantly after telling her son to eat enough during lunch, put on enough clothes in the morning, and not to have sodas after working, etc.

***

“Call from your son?” ask Li Yan after Su Ran hung up on the call.

“Mhmm. That’s him.” Su Ran felt much better after she had talked to her son over the phone.

“Haha, your son misses you, right?”

Hearing that, Su Ran, “… …”

Is that so?

Her son sure didn’t sound like he missed her at all on the phone. Perhaps even a slight resentment…

On the other end, after hanging up the phone, Su Han stared at it and remained silent for a long while. All the way until Li Yang and the others, finally been crushed enough on the basketball field, came running over and elbowed him.

“Say, God Su. We know you were talking to your girlfriend here but for that long? We are already 30 points behind in the game!”

Su Han’s face dropped when he heard that.

“Who said I was talking to my girlfriend?”

“No?”

Why else would he be on the phone for so long? He was smiling for a while there and then he looked very concerned!

“No!” said Su Han. Then, after a slight paused, he stressed, “I was talking to my mom!”

“Hah? Your mom?”

“Oh, that’s right. I seem to recall that Mother Su travelled out of town for some sort of activity, right?” said Liu Yangyang.

“Mmhmm.”

Su Han nodded, then frowned.

“What’s the matter? Something’s not going smoothly with Mother Su?”

“No, nothing like that,” said Su Han.

“Brother Han, don’t be like that. You don’t need to hold it all in if something is going on. Tell us, we will help you any way that we can.” Liu Yangyang patted his chest in a very generous way.

“You?” Su Han looked over at Liu Yangyang, raised his brows, and expressed his doubts about it.

“Yes! Me!”

Even if he couldn’t be of help, there were still Du Xiao Tao and the others.

Besides, even if none of them could be of help, they could at least be supportive of him emotionally, right?

“Sure.

“You got money? Can I borrow some?”

“Wha?!” Everybody’s eyes widened as soon as Su Han said that.

What was going on? The Young Sir who had been coming to school in an 8-figure car asked to borrow money from them?

Was that car just a rental?

Immediately after that, Liu Yangyang recalled how strict Father Su looked. Perhaps he shouldn’t have found that so surprising.

Perhaps Father Su even help onto his pocket money when Mother Su was gone.

“Sure! How much do you need, Brother Han? Is 40 enough?” said Liu Yangyang very generously.

As long as Brother Han would remember this! This was his pocket money for half a week!

“40?”

“What? Too much?”

“Not even close…”

“Oh? Not enough? I have 200 here. You can borrow that too.”

“I have 50 as well.”

“I have some too…”

Looking at the heartache on everybody’s face as they fished out their money, Su Han frowned.

“Never mind. I’ll figure something else out.”

***

Over at the Lu’s residence that night.

Over the dinner table, Lu Shao raised his brows as he looked at Su Han who had been sitting there quietly with a long face.

“What’s the matter?”

“I feel that there’s something wrong with Mom.” Frowning, Su Han gave Lu Shao a look hesitantly and finally expressed his worries.

Lu Shao, too, was taken aback a little when he heard that.

“You mean Xiao Ran?

“What about her?”

What did you refer to my mom as? Who said you could refer to her as “Xiao Ran”?

Su Han would have said to straight to Lu Shao’s face any other day.

Today was different. He didn’t want to waste his time bickering with this man.

He gave Lu Shao a warning look and nodded. He said in a deep voice, “I felt that she didn’t sound like herself. I wonder if she had run into some sort of issues.”
