ELEVEN

“Girl, you are really lucky to have a guy like this, I assume you are good friends the way you talked to

each other?” one out of the audience says during the aperitif after our show.

“Thank you, yes we are good friends. Did you like his speech?” I ask politely.

“I think it has some potential in it but you have to work on it pretty hard, the details like the

SWOT-Analysis should be more clear illustrated.” He suggests.

I spend the next hour with conversations like this, always talking the same again and again. In the

end, at least I know that they won’t give us any money, they didn’t say it but you could hear it in their

words. And as much as I like to work with Jim on this I can’t look forward to it having such a big

secret between us.

On the way home it is dead silent. Even the radio is out. When we arrive in front of my house, he

finally opens his mouth.

“So, are you still not going to tell me?” I knew he would ask.

“I already told you everything I could.” The words sound harsh and I’m sorry for it the moment they

leave my mouth. “Listen, I burn to tell you everything, but I know so little myself and it’s just not me to

tell you. Please wait a few weeks or so and you’ll know it too.” Before I can say too much I get out of

his car and run into the house and smack into Jaden.

“Wow, sisterheart, I know you love me but you don’t have to knock me down.” He smiles. I think we

all could get green and he wouldn’t notice nor mind.

“Sorry, I’m just sad, Jim’s mad at me for not telling him.” Jaden furrows his forehead.

“Hey, people are not blind, you can see it from miles away that something is up with you and you

know it rubs off on me.” I manage to get out before a big yawn.

“Oh. I’m keeping you from your bed.” He states the obvious. “Good night.”

After a big hug, I disappear in my room and cuddle my pillow while falling asleep.

“YOU! YES YOU!” Stupid alarm clock. I kill the alarm and turn around to go back to sleep. Wait, it’s

Friday. Oh my god, IT’S FRIDAY. I jump out of bed and then freeze, unable to think. I have a date with

Calisto and I don’t know what to wear, hell I don’t even know where we’re going. Frustrated I let

myself fall on my bed. I count to five, take a deep breath and then stand up again. With wobbly legs,

I head to the kitchen where my mom greets me with her ever-happy mood.

“Good morning sunshine, already jazzed?” uh, thank you mom for reminding me.

“Morning, yepp, I am. Assja, have you made me some coffee? I could use a strong one.” I only say

my mom’s first name in special circumstances. And this was one, for me at least. Grasping this,

she gets quiet and hands me my cup of coffee without another word. When I’m finished with it, I go

straight to work, wanting time to pass fast on one side but on the other to side to last drag on

forever until tonight.

Colin shoots me a glance that I don’t understand first. Only when I see that Amanda is still not

showing up I realise that it was a worrying one.

“Has she called at least?” I ask hopefully. He just shakes his head and lets his shoulders hang

down. That’s so not like her, I start to worry too.

“I get to think something terrible has happened to her. I’m really afraid for Amanda.” He says after a

long silence.

“Have you tried to reach her?” I wouldn’t have to ask that a woman, but in Colin’s case I do. He

nods: “Voicemail.” Crap. Maybe her dad had to much. Colin doesn’t know about the problems with

her dad, about the drugs. I hope it’s just something like that and not herself lying in the hospital.

Since there’s nothing we can do for now, we just work. No radio, just the silence between the two of

us. After lunch I get even more anxious about the evening with Calisto. What to wear, what make-up,

which shoes? The afternoon is over before I can answer one of these questions and when Colin

approaches me silently from behind, I jump squealing into the air.

“Marivi, it’s time to clean up, you were working through the whole afternoon without a break.” I steal

a glance at the clock, seeing it’s already five to five. Oh, time really passed in a blur. Hastily, I put my

things together and start cleaning my utensils.

“Will I see you on Sunday?” Colin breaks the still lasting silence. I think for a second, but I can’t

seem to remember what event would bring me to see him on Sunday.

“What’s on Sunday?” I ask innocently. Colin shoots me a very angry glance and stomps off. I make

a mental note to ask my mom when I’m home.

So when I arrived at home, I first head into our kitchen to ask my mom about it.

“What important thing about Sunday did I forget?” My mom shoots me exactly the same look but at

least she has the mercy in her to answer my question.

“Marivi, you really get old, you forget more than I do. It’s your grandma’s eighty fifth birthday we’re

celebrating.” Oh, right, I really totally forgot about it.

“That’s a whole day and night thing, isnt’ it? I mean I will be there and nowhere else, preparing in

the morning and so?” I had already hoped to spend my Sunday with Calisto. What brings me back

to present, I gotta get ready for tonight.

“Uhm, mom, mind helping me prepare for tonight? You know my date with Calisto you reminded

me so nicely this morning?” She nods in response and so we head into my room together.

Since we don’t  know where he’ll take me we decide for a simple black jeans and a black blouse

with tulle and frills. My mother insists on wearing a light nude make-up and getting my hair into a

ponytail. When I turn around after half an hour she gives me a satisfied nod. I just started to wonder

if he’ll come at all when the doorbell rings. Before I can even take one step, my mother is on the

door, opening it.

“Good evening Mrs. Frey. I’m here to take out your daughter, I hope you don’t mind?” he’s such a

gentleman. Taking a deep breath, I slowly get downstairs. This time I don’t faint, but I’m still

stunned at how godlike he looks.

“Wow, my little redhead looks just as beautiful as I remembered her.” Uhm, did he actually mean

me? My cheeks burn with embarrassment all I can is not to turn around and flee to my room.

“Hi Calisto, nice to see you.” I finally manage to stammer out. With few steps he closes the distance

between us and gives me a bear hug.

“I’ve missed you” he whispers into my ear. “You’re ready to go?”

I just nod, unable to move any other part of my body. I kinda think that happens too often lately, me

being unable to do something.  Gladly, my mom breaks the silence:

“Where will you go?” I wondered on that one too. He was wearing a simple jeans and a sweater,

like when I first met him.

“We’re going to throw some popcorn.” He says with a big smirk on his lips.
