𝘈𝘥𝘦𝘭𝘢𝘪𝘥𝘦'𝘴 𝘗𝘖𝘝
We soon put a good distance between ourselves and the scene that was just caused.
"What the hell was that?" Rafe questions the older man.
"Where are we going? Find where we are!" Ward counters hurriedly.
"All right" Rafe nods taking out his phone's map "Hey, this road goes down the same place. We're good"
"All right, stay through, stay through here" He adds.
"See anybody in the mirror?" Ward asks, speeding at what I'm sure must be an illegal speed.
"No, we're good" Rafe assures him.
"Are we going the right way?" Ward questions.
"Yeah, yeah, yeah" Rafe answers "Stay on this road. It's gonna take us directly to the airport"
We turn another corner through miles and miles of grassy land and I notice two workers up ahead, one of them holding a red stop sign and the other waving a red flag.
"Are you kidding me?" Ward huffs.
"Rafe, I have a bad feeling" I mumble worriedly, clutching onto him.
"I got you. Relax" The dirty blonde assures me, pecking my temple.
"What do we do? Nowhere to turn" Ward groans.
"Dunno" Rafe responds.
"Get the gun" Ward orders and my heart drops "Get the gun, Rafe. Just hide it"
Rafe reaches forward but I beat him to it, lunging forward and opening the compartment, pulling out the weapon. Both males glance at me in confusion as I lift my dress to reveal a pair of tight spandex shorts that I tuck the gun into the side of, shooting Rafe a warning look.
"Be careful with that" Ward tells me.
"Aye aye, cap" I retort sarcastically.
The slow to a stop and Rafe's grip on me tightens, a worried look on his face.
"What's going on?!" Ward shouts out the window.
"Sorry!" The man apologises.
"Road's closed! Nobody coming through!" The female explains.
"Well, can you let just one truck through?" Ward chuckles hopefully as they approach us "We just- We kinda gotta get through today. We got a delivery that-"
"I don't think so" The girl cuts him off "Sinkhole. Massive"
"I'm begging you guys" Ward pleads.
"Let me see your hands" The man's voice demands and I turn my head to see him holding a gun at Ward's head.
"Don't do anything stupid" The girl warns us, something sharp being held at my throat which makes me freeze.
"Get out. Easy" The man says.
I shakily open the door and climb out of the car, looking to Rafe in worry.
"Listen to your papa, or she gets real hurt" The girl threatens Rafe as he slowly gets out the truck.
"Everything nice and easy" The man tells us "This is what we'll do. You're gonna walk to the sign. You'll put those signs on the side for me. You go to that sign. You go to that sign."
"You stay with me, pretty girl" The female breathes out, digging the blade into my skin and I wince.
"Move the damn sign" The man demands and Ward complies "You too, buddy. Put it on the side of the road"
"Right over there" The girl adds as Rafe throws the sign onto the grass.
"Go to the barrel" The man orders "Put the barrels to the side of the road"
Ward chucks the barrel with a glare on his face and the man seems pissed off by that.
"Throw another barrel, and I'll blow your damn head off" He threatens.
The Camerons move all the barrels out of the way, clearing the road and I shuffle, making the girl hold me tighter.
"You're hurting me" I whimper, hoping that she'll take pity on me.
"Shut up" She hisses out.
"Take two steps back. Easy! Get on your knees!" The man shouts.
Ward and Rafe get down on their knees and the girl behind me shoves me down too, my knees hitting the concrete roughly.
"Hands up. Kiss the ground" The man adds.
"Who are you? Who are you?!" Ward barks.
"I'm the Royal Commission for the redistribution of wealth. Kiss the ground" The man answers snappily.
"You guys are idiots" Rafe insults them "Our escorts are right behind us"
"A wise guy, huh?" The girl questions, digging the blade deep enough that I feel blood running down my neck followed by a horrible stinging feeling.
"Rafe, please shut up" I plead.
"I'd listen to your girl" She sneers.
"Go! Go! Hurry!" The man hollers.
"Sarah?" I hear Ward mutter in awe.
"Get down" The man snaps at Ward.
I turn my head, ignoring the slicing of my skin, and see the blonde girl running towards the truck with John B by her side.
"Sarah! You're alive!" Ward screams in joy "Baby, you're alive!"
"Don't talk to her! The girl holding me snaps.
"Stay back" John B warns him.
"Booker" I breathe out, feeling happier than ever to see him.
"Hey, stay down!" The girl adds.
"Sarah, you're alive!" Ward repeats "I love you, baby! I can't believe it!"
"Do not talk to her! The girl yells, leaving me to grab the man.
"Stay back" John B repeats, holding a gun to him "Stop!"
Before Ward can break free of the pair restraining him or John B can actually pull the trigger, Rafe takes the gun from my shorts and storms forwards, pointing it at Sarah and John B.
"Hey!" He shouts, getting their attention.
"Rafe, no!" I scream as a gunshot goes off the girl next to me tackles the gun from his hands, pointing it at him.
"No!" I repeat, slipping in between the boy and the end of the barrel "Hurt him and I hurt you, bitch"
"Go on! Get out of here! Go!" The man tells John B and Sarah.
"I got his gun" The girl assures them as they clamber into the vehicle.
"You're a coward!" Rafe roars in anger as the truck speeds at us "Sarah! Stop!"
The truck flies by and disappears into the long grass, leaving us behind.
"You should go" I tell the girl, my heart racing in my chest.
"Let's get outta here" She nods, turning to her friend "Come on, T!"
The pair run off and I see the escorts' cars speeding towards us. Ward sends them after John B and Sarah, the cars racing away in a hurry to catch the two seventeen year olds.
"Adelaide?" Rafe's voice fills my ears and I stumble a little as I spin around in fright "Baby, you're hurt"
He tilts my chin up to check out my neck but I shake my head, pushing his hand away and shakily throwing myself into his arms.
