all i knew this morning when i woke,

THIS IS A FLASHBACK. . .
HOW DO YOU FUCK SOMETHING up so bad? Where did things go wrong? Once upon a time two people were in love and they didn't worry about who knew or if they were going to get married, or question if once someone went to college would they still be together? It was just pure love with no second guesses.
"How do you know if you're in love?" Mia asked Maddy and Cassie as she sat in Cassie's room.
Maddy turned her head fast, "Who are you in love with?"
"Are you in love?" Cassie smiled, "Please tell me you have someone, you've been single for too long!"
Mia shook her. "No, it's just– It's Valentine's Day tomorrow and the two of you seem to be pretty in love and I saw how Nate asked you to be his Valentine and it seems like you two are pretty in love. I'm just wondering how do you know?"
Maddy gave Mia a cheesy smile, "Hm I don't know I think you just feel it... you know?"
Cassie nodded, "Yeah you just feel it."
"You just feel it..."

"Fez?" Mia walked into the liquor store, it seemed to be closed as all the lights were off. "Fezco, I swear to god if you jump out and scare me."
Mia looked back at the text messages that Fez had sent her, asking her to meet him there at that exact time.
On the counter next to the register a small note with Mia's name written on it sat neatly.
Roses are red
I love getting high
Meet me in the back for Mia's Surprise!
Mia smiled and laughed at Fezco's struggle to rhyme, sticking the note into her purse walking into the back cooler.
"Fez?" She spoke as she walked into the dark room, it immediately being lit up with a bunch of candles and roses scattered everywhere, a big piece of Gouda cheese on the small table.
You can be the man as long as you're my Valentine...
"Oh my god." Mia smiled, "Oh my god!"
She immediately ran up to the ginger holding the sign, wrapping her arms around his neck and placing her lips on his. "Is this what I think it is?"
Fezco gave Mia a smile, "Me asking you to be my Valentine through She's The Man references? Yeah."
"Yes, a million times yes I'll be your Valentine!" Mia jumped up wrapping her legs around Fezco's waist peppering kisses all over his face. "I am fully obsessed with you, Fezco O'Neill."
"Feelings mutual baby." He smiled leaning in, giving Mia a long and meaningful kiss. "Feeling is very fucking mutual."
Mia tilted her head at Fezco. How lucky was she?
She had spent so much time rejecting the feeling of actually be wanted for her, being wanted for being Mia and not just being wanted for her body.
Nothing had really prepared her for falling in so deep with Fezco, she had expected the both of them to be a one and done but even after they had sex for the first time she fell asleep in his arms instead of getting up and going home.
She woke up the next day to him making breakfast, and she spent the rest of the day watching movies with him and Ashtray. And even when she really did think that what they had might have been done he would call her and message her, he would ask how her day was and that he was thinking of her.
Suddenly she found herself spending all her free moments at the O'Neill house, it had become her safe space. Fezco and Ashtray had become her family, a family that never made her feel less or like she wasn't doing enough.
It was Thanksgiving Day when she had first felt it, she had told her family that she was spending the rest of the day with Maddy and her family after she had dinner with hers but in reality she was going to Fezco's house after promising Ashtray she would make him a turkey.
Fezco had an apron on that said Kiss The Chef and he was arguing with Ashtray on how to make the mashed potatoes.
"Tell him Mia you don't put fucking cheese in the potatoes, not mashed potatoes." Ashtray would turn to her.
Mia just laughed, shaking her head. "I'm not getting in the middle of this. But it's mashed potatoes not a baked potato."
"Fuckin' told you, give me that cheese back!"
Fezco just smiled, "You gotta have my back next time baby."
"Not if you're putting cheese in the mashed potatoes." Mia giggled, giving the chef a kiss.
She felt it for the first time as they all sat at the dinner table, Fezco was saying grace before they ate.
"God, look over me and my family. I know Ashtray is a bit fuckin' nuts sorry for curisng but he's a good kid. Look over my grandma, look over me. Look over my girl, but you probably sent her to look over me. Thank you for this food, in Jesus name... Amen."
"Amen."
"Amen."
Mia could feel the tears threatening to come out after Fezco said that, and by the look that he gave Mia right after she could tell that he meant it.
"You two are so corny." Ashtray broke their longing stare, "I'm trying to eat don't be lookin' at eachother like that."
Mia threw her head back in a fit of laughter, "Eat your turkey."
But you probably sent her to look over me...
It was the first time that her heart had ever felt the way it did.

"I didn't know you could get this romantic." Mia smirked from the other side of the candle lit dinner table.
The two were eating dinner at this really fancy spot, and Fezco's crazy self rented the place out for just the two of them in Tony Montana fashion. He was wearing a suit and Mia swore for just a second she could picture what he would look like at the end of the wedding aisle.
"Imma be honest neither did I." Fezco shook his head in embarrassment.
"You probably pissed off a lot of people that were looking to get reservations tonight." Mia smiled.
"Fuck em' I got the best Valentine and she desrves everything and anything she wants." Fezco nodded, "I wanted you to be comfortable tonight, didn't want anyone starin' and shit."
"And shit." Mia laughed. "I really like you."
"I really like you too, never really felt like this before..." Fezco thought back to his grandma's words. She might have been fucking wrong, really fucking wrong.
"Wanna dance?" Mia stood up, reaching her hand out to Fezco as the music got a little louder.
"I can't dance, baby." Fezco shook his head, earning a disapproving look from Mia, "I'll sway though."
Mia smiled as Fezco got up wrapping his arm around her waist and the other grabbing her hand, swaying along to Nothing Can Change This Love by Sam Cooke.
"You're not too bad." Mia looked up at Fezco who looked like he was concentrating really hard, "Just move with me."
Fez nodded as the two became in sync, swaying to the music.

Mia laughed as Fezco spun them, making them both almost trip.

"And ohh, you're cake and ice cream." Fez sang into Mia's ear making her blush even more than she had already tonight.
"You're sugar and spice... and everything nice." Mia sang back.
Fezco pulled his head back looking directly into Mia's eyes.
YOU'RE THE GIRL OF MY, MY, MY DREAMS.
"Happy Valentine's Day Mia."
"Happy Valentine's Day Fezco."
Mia's heart was full, the same way it had been at Thanksgiving dinner.
