Clay had listened to 11 tapes and professed his love to Hannah and professed her love back. But now it was time for Clay to hear number 12. The real reason why Hannah Baker was going to take her own life.

The Doctor: Number 12. I think you should take a seat for this one.

Clay Jensen: I'll stand. Hannah, you can take a seat if you want.

Hannah takes up on Clay's offer and sits down on a chair as The Doctor begins to play tape 12.

Hannah Baker (Tape): Here we are. Tape 12. If you've listened this far and haven't heard your name, well, I bet you know exactly what's coming now. Or maybe you don't have any idea. Could that be true? Could a person be that sick? Let's find out.

Clay listens to the part where she lost the money from her parents store.

The Doctor: Umm, about that money.

The Doctor takes out a bag as Hannah could not believe what she is seeing.

Hannah Baker: You've got to be kidding me.

Clay Jensen: Is that...?

The Doctor: The money she lost.

The Doctor hands it over to Hannah as she opens it up and counts it.

Hannah Baker: It's all here. $743. Why didn't you... let me guess, paradox.

The Doctor: Correct. And don't worry about the landlord for your parent's store, I deal with him.

Hannah Baker: Thank you.

They continue listening to the tape.

Hannah Baker (Tape): It seemed like no matter what I did, I kept letting people down. I started thinking how everyone's lives would be better without me. And what does that feel like? It feels like nothing. Like a deep, endless, always blank nothing. And for those of you who will now be looking for signs everywhere... what does it really look like? Here's the scary thing. It looks like nothing. It wasn't a short walk. I walked forever that night. Through my old neighborhood, where the houses were nicer than the one we lived in now. All the way up to the hill where the rich people live. Where you live. And from blocks away, I heard it. The music. The murmur of voices. The siren call of a party. You'd think I'd know better than to follow that call after Jessica's party. But my feet followed it. My mind and heart were still in the big, blank nothing. I was surprised to see Jessica at another party. But then, I was surprised to see myself at another party. And I can't explain it... but sitting there under the stars... I felt at peace for the first time in days. The way I see it, there are two different kinds of death. If you're lucky, you live a long life... and one day your body stops working and it's over. But if you're not lucky, you die a little bit... over and over... until you realize it's too late. I know some of you might think there was more I could have done, or should have done. But I'd lost control. And in that moment, it felt like... it felt like I was already dead. I thought maybe I could forget about what had happened. But thanks to you, Bryce... I'd finally lived up to my reputation. And I knew there was no way I could ever live that down. But I thought at least maybe I could set the record straight. So I started making a list... trying to piece together just exactly how my life had gone so wrong. And the names that came out. Life is unpredictable... and control is just an illusion. And sometimes all that unpredictability is overwhelming. And it makes us feel small and powerless. And once I took a look back... and I finally understood how everything happened... I decided that no one wouldever hurt me again.

Clay Jensen just finished listening to tape 12. He was shocked. He was horrified. All he can do was just look at Hannah and watch her cry as she had to be reminded of that night just by listening to the tape.

Clay Jensen: Bryce... to you, too?

Hannah couldn't even look at Clay as she cried. Clay goes up to Hannah as she just wants to hug him and she does.

Clay Jensen: He's not getting away with this.

The Doctor: How right you are. That's why I came to Liberty, to help Hannah out with Bryce.

Clay Jensen: We'll go to the police.

The Doctor: And say what? It'll be her word against his. Good thing I've got this.

The Doctor shows Clay & Hannah a video on the console screen. It's a video of Alex Standall playing a video game with Montgomery de la Cruz.

Clay Jensen: Alex & Monty?

Monty de la Cruz: How are you so fucking good at this?

Alex Standall: It's natural-born talent, Montgomery. And practice. We've been playing for, like, 5 hours.

Clay Jensen: I don't get it. What's so important...

Monty de la Cruz: What the fuck?

Monty puts his beer down but spills it on the table as he laughs.

Alex Standall: Jesus! I thought everyone went home.

Monty de la Cruz: Yeah, me, too.

Monty looks out the window.

Alex Standall: Who is it?

Monty de la Cruz: Just Bryce fucking some chick in the hot tub.

Alex Standall: Must be a desperate slut at this hour.

Hannah's eyes widen as does Clay's.

Clay Jensen: This is at Bryce's.

The Doctor: The Walker's pool house. Monty saw it happened.

Hannah & Clay couldn't believe it. There are witnesses to the assault. Unfortunately, one of them was Montgomery de la Cruz.

Clay Jensen: Fuck!

The Doctor: What?

Clay Jensen: Montgomery de la Cruz is one of Bryce's best friend. He fucking worthships the guy. Alex will back up Hannah's story when we tell him, but Monty won't.

Hannah Baker: He'll just lie.

The Doctor: Not with this little bugger.

The Doctor pulls out a jar that contain an ugly space worm.

Hannah Baker: What... is... that... thing?

The Doctor: Truth Worm. One bite from this bugger and you'll have no choice but to tell the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth.

Clay Jensen: So your plan is to have that bug bite Monty and make him tell the truth?

The Doctor: The affects will last 48 hours. Give or take.

Hannah Baker: What about Alex?

Clay Jensen: I know you don't trust him, but believe me we can for this. We'll tell what Bryce did to you and he'll come through.

The Doctor: We'll also need Justin Foley & Jessica Davis. We'll tell Jessica the truth...

Hannah Baker: I've already tried with her the Monday after it happened. She won't listen and she'll probably think I'm lying because she thinks I'm jealous of her & Justin. Even at the party when I asked her when did they started dating.

Clay Jensen: I'll talk to her, you'll talk to Justin. I think we should tell Tony, too. We can trust him.

Hannah Baker: I trust Tony.

Clay Jensen: Then we have a plan. What about number 13?

The Doctor plays tape 13 for Clay to hear. He couldn't believe the conversation Hannah had with Mr. Porter.

Clay Jensen: Move on?

The Doctor: Now in his defense...

Hannah Baker: His defense?

The Doctor: You didn't actually told him who it was and what he actually did. I think you should try again with him after we bring in Justin Foley, Jessica Davis, Alex Standall, & this Tony.

Hannah Baker: You're probably right.

The Doctor: I'm always right. So what do we say?

Hannah Baker: Let's do it.

The Doctor starts setting coordinates to go back to Liberty. They return to Liberty as the TARDIS returns to the auditorium. They exit the TARDIS...

The Doctor: We're back. It's still lunch time. You've been gone for 30 seconds.

Hannah Baker: 30 Seconds, wow.

The Doctor: Alrighty then. Hannah, go find Justin Foley. Clay, find find Jessica.

Clay Jensen: Then I'll go find Tony.

The Doctor: How much time do we have till lunch ends?

Clay Jensen: We've got 12 minute left, we've got to do this now.

The Doctor: Go on, then.

Hannah & Clay grab their backpacks and run off to go find Justin & Jessica. The Doctor walks out of the auditorium when he runs into Principal Bolan.

Principal Bolan: AH, Mr. Smith.

The Doctor: Principal Bolan, hello.

Principal Bolan: I want to thank for filling in for Mrs. Bradley this morning. We've found a sub to fill in for her.

The Doctor: My pleasure.

Principal Bolan: How's the inspection going along?

The Doctor: It's going well. Very well. The students seem to love it here.

Principal Bolan: Very good. I have to get going. I'll let you continue with the inspection.

The Doctor: Very well.

As Principal Bolan walks away, The Doctor sees the students of Liberty High walking around in the hallways and interacting with one another. The Doctor suddenly sees a student who might help him out with Bryce Walker.

The Doctor: (Whispering) Tyler Down.
