CHAPTER 48: It's time to wake up, Y/n.
"Ji-Yeong,"
"Ali!"
The two of them said in sync, their eyes were so wide and their heads felt like it was about to explode. They were so confused!
"wha- why the hell are they here? How are they- KENJI!" Y/n turned around to where Kenji was looking at, he was looking at someone who's in the hospital bed, Y/n couldn't see properly as Kenji's back was covering them.
She walked towards him and called the boy who was too stunned and shocked to speak, "Kenji how is this even fucking possible-..." her world slowed down as she saw who was lying down at the bed.
It was her.
Kenji couldn't comprehend what was going on, as to why the three people who they thought were dead, were there in the room with them.
And why wasn't he there?
Y/n was staring with her wide teary eyes at herself who just looked like she was sleeping, she gulped seeing several cords stuck onto her.
A tear rolled down her cheeks seeing herself looking so peaceful,
"How is she?" Ali asked Ji-Yeong,
"still the same..." Ji-Yeong looked down and continued doodling on a notebook,
"have you heard about her?"
"Well, I heard she finally got her mom and brother back. Bought a house and is doing well, but I'm not really sure about what she's feeling tho.." Ji-Yeong flipped through her notebook showing Ali her notes causing Y/n and Kenji's brows furrow.
"what the fuck is going on..." Kenji thought,
"her mom and brother..." Y/n knew one person who has her mom and brother as her reason as to why she joined the game, and was planning to buy a house if she won. Y/n bit her lip knowing well enough who they were both talking about, trying to stop her tears from rolling down her cheeks.
"how did you found out with those other information?" Ali asked Ji-Yeong with his brows up, Y/n and Kenji's heads following.
"I used his connections, I have to look for her somehow."
"his connections? Who's connections?" She looked at Kenji after wiping her tears off her cheeks, Kenji shrugged.
"I'm sure she misses her." Ali looked at the Y/n that was on the hospital bed,
It was all coming together with Kenji and Y/n, their hearts were pounding, sweat were dripping down their foreheads, Kenji kept pacing around and Y/n's hands felt so sweaty and her chest felt heavy.
"who doesn't? But don't worry big bro. We got this!" Ji-Yeong cheered giving Ali a hug,
"yeah, yeah. But did they... Did they give them the card?"
"the card?!" Kenji looked at Y/n with his eyes wide, "t-the card... But Kenji, aren't- aren't all of us... dead?" Y/n stuttered, their lips turning white as the two of them were fixing the puzzle pieces together.
"well they told me he received it, not sure about her."
"do you think they'll actually go here?" Ali looked at Y/n at the hospital bed and smiled,
"I mean, there's always hope. Right?" Ji-Yeong stood up and sat next to Y/n,
Y/n couldn't control her breathing, Kenji's heart sunken as he finally understood what was going on.
A tear escaped his eye, facing Y/n.
He didn't know if he should feel happy while his heart felt like it was crumbling to pieces. He didn't know how to react nor what to even react, his eyes landed on a calendar, it wasn't 2019 anymore.
It was 2021.
It was two years later after the games happened,
and Ji-Yeong, Ali and Y/n were all in one room.
He was the only one that wasn't there.
Taking a gulp as he faced the still confused Y/n, putting his shaking cold hands on her shoulders.
His eyes were starting to get puffy underneath, his breaths shaky. "U-uh... Y/n,"
"Kenji? Hey why are you crying? Is- is everything alright?" Y/n was lost,
but Kenji knew, she's been found.
He held her hand lightly caressing it causing her brows to raise, "I... it makes me uncomfortable seeing someone I know in a hospital bed." he lied, while trying to restrain himself from breaking down in front of Y/n keeping his head down.
"oh... Do you wanna go?" Y/n calmly asked him, caressing his hand back attempting to calm him down.
He looked at her and smiled with a few tears rolling down his cheeks, "yeah, let's- let's get out of here."
They went out of the hospital, Kenji continuously wiping his eyes from keeping his tears from falling noticing Y/n has gone quiet after going out of the place and was just looking around as they walked.
"what... What are you thinking about?" he asked her,
She sighed, "what do you think it meant?" she mumbled looking down.
"maybe... That showed us what would've happened if we... We survived." he breathed out,
"but... Where were you?"
Kenji looked away, "maybe I was in the bathroom, or in the other rooms..."
Silence,
"I've had a dream once and we got in a big fight over Kang Sae Byeok, when we were back in the games..." Kenji said changing the subject making her look at him with her brows raised,
"who won?"
"me." he smirked,
"yup, that was definitely a dream." she had a sly smile on her face whilst Kenji look deeply offended.
They couldn't help themselves but let out a little laughs as they continued to walk,
Soon later Y/n realised they were heading back to the forest she was at the first time she got there, "Kenj..."
His back faced her, she caught up with him as he turned around taking a deep breath. "we're going to get you out of here." he told her,
"huh?"
"Y/n... You're actually..." he looked down and realised tears were already racing down his cheeks making Y/n panic.
"Kenji what are you trying to say?"
"It's time to wake up, Y/n." taking a deep breath as he finally met Y/n's doe eyes.
"waking up from what Kenji? That wasn't me on the bed back there, well- IT IS me. But that's me IF we survived the games-"
He didn't let her finish as he pulled her in a embrace confusing her once more, feeling Kenji's chin lay on top of her head lightly sobbing.
Kenji's eyes were closed, taking in his last moments with Y/n once again.
He pulled out of the embrace as he looked down at the girl, "Y/n, that is... That is you, right now."
Y/n froze, eyes widening as her lips turned white.
"you've been in a coma for 2 years, Y/n."
