|| the prince and the pauper ||
petite feet padding across
the flourished marbled floor
with an exciting bounce
clothed in fancy colors
leather satchel dangling
from the hands of
a juvenile brought up
in the golden riches.
meanwhile in the small town
amidst the massive crowd
along the muddy avenue
picking up the fallen books
a youngster walks on
with pieces of cloth
falling off of his rags
smile outshines the sweat.
unheard prayers towards
the scintillating sun
tired of the long path
tired of the sleepless nights
reading under lamp lights
climbing the steep hills
with an empty stomach
he still walks on and on.
the rich child glides through the luxurious halls
cutting bones and flesh with lavish forks
life is easy as falling off a log for amusement
but as time passes on everything feels empty.
these tiny hands shiver in the raging storm
tears falling off his eyes like snowdrops
the road ahead seems like a dead-end from here
he doesn't have any strength to break the wall.
unheard prayers towards
