[Simon is playing a video game on the TV when there's a knock on the door. Simon pauses his game to open the door. It's his sister, Rebecca.]
DAMON: Your sister?
SIMON: Becky?
REBECCA: Surprise.
SIMON: What are you doing here?
REBECCA: [entering] Visiting my little brother.
[Simon takes a better look at her outfit. She's wearing a cape.]
SIMON: What are you wearing?
REBECCA: Do you not know what day it is?
SIMON: Wednesday.
[Rebecca puts a fake set of fangs in her mouth.]
ELENA: Looks like Halloween.
REBECCA: It's Halloween. I'm a vampire.
SIMON: Okay. All right, that's pretty cute, but you know that we don't all actually wear capes.
REBECCA: Yeah, apparently you wear sweatpants and T-shirts. I think I'll stick with the cape. So, where's your coffin?
STEFAN: Coffin?
SIMON: My coffin?
REBECCA: Yeah, don't all vampires sleep in one?
LOUIS: Vampires sleep in a bed.
SIMON: No, I sleep in a bed.
REBECCA: Huh. Okay, let's get going. You're never too old to trick or treat.
SIMON: I've had a really long week. I don't really wanna go out tonight.
REBECCA: Simon, it's tradition. When have you, me and Fray ever missed a Halloween together?
SIMON: Clary can't tonight. She's on duty at the Institute.
REBECCA: Right. With the Shadow-slayers.
JACE: Shadowhunters.
SIMON: Shadowhunters.
REBECCA: I still can't believe that Clary has half-angel blood, has a sister and a brother and tattoos that give her powers.
JACE: Not tattoos, they are runes.
SIMON: And those tattoos are called runes.
REBECCA: Whatever.
SIMON: The Shadow World is a very dangerous place, okay? I've seen people get hurt just for knowing about it.
REBECCA: Well, it's too late for that. Simon, I didn't fly all the way up from Florida to sit on your couch and play Xbox. I came here to hang out with you on Halloween, because that's what we do.
SIMON: Fine. Just give me a couple of minutes to throw together a costume, okay?
REBECCA: What? There's no need. You've got a built-in costume for life. Come on. Don't be shy.
[Rebecca squeals as Simon reveals his fangs to her. They both chuckle.]
They chuckled at this as well.
REBECCA: Oh, my God.
[STREETS]
[The sun is almost gone. The camera focuses on three children walking on the sidewalk.]
GIRL: It's getting dark. Maybe we should head home soon.
BOY 1: No way. We just started.
GIRL: Three hours ago.
BOY 1: How about one more block?
GIRL: What'd you get from the last lady?
BOY 2: Two Ring Pops.
BOY 1: What the hell? All I got was Tootsie Rolls.
BOY 2: Maybe 'cause your costume's lame.
BOY 1: At least my mom didn't make mine.
[They all hear thudding and the girl points to an alley.]
GIRL: Guys, look.
[They hear the low growling of a demon.]
BOY 1: Cool costume.
REBEKAH: That isn't a bloody costume. It's a real demon.
[The demon goes towards them and growls louder. The children scream.]
BOY 2: All right. Okay, you're scary.
GIRL: Let us by, please?
[The demon shrieks and roars louder, and the children run away screaming. The demon gets attacked from behind by Izzy. She has thrown her whip around the demon's arm.]
ISABELLE: Where do you think you're going?
[The demon pulls his arm loose and is about to flee, but Jace jumps in front of him. He pierces his blade through the demon. Clary runs towards them.]
CLARY: Jace, hold him up!
[Jace holds his blade still in the demon, and Clary quickly draws the sunlight rune in her hand. The demon evaporates as he is hit by a strong ray of sunlight. Jace stands on something, he picks up a fake sword from the ground.]
JACE: I hate Halloween.
They chuckled at this.
[INTRO IS SHOWN]
Rosaline opens her eyes and flashes her alpha eyes who had golden hue. She swings her katanas and fearless rune is showed. Achatius is standing in Edom and his eyes turn black and white wings appear behind his back. Theodore's magical bow appears and he stretches its string forming the strength rune. Jonathan is shown showing his demon eyes and his seraph blade appears. He cuts the air and flexibility rune is show. Clary is seen blowing the candles on her birthday cake forming the angelic rune. Jace is seen jumping from a building with eagles surrounding him. He jumps on the ground splashing the water which forms heightened speed rune. Alec is seen a room with healing rune drawn on one of the walls. He aims his arrow. Isabelle is now shown swinging her blade forming the parabatai rune. Simon is seen wiping the blood on his lips in hotel de mort. The whole background turns black and white. Luke is seen with a wall behind him covered with runes and wolves. Magnus is drinking his cocktail. Scene splits and shows Theo and Rose using their magic and flashing their golden red eyes. Achatius hands have sparkles dancing. Then all the runes are shown burning and Rosaline, Theo, Clary, Jace, Jonathan, Alec and Isabelle are shown walking and the title Shadowhunter appears with The Mortal Instruments written below. And the screen turns black.
[TITLE SCREEN]
[THE INSTITUTE, ALEC'S OFFICE]
[It is still nighttime. Alec's office is only lit up by a lamp on his desk. Magnus enters the room.]
MAGNUS: Good morning. Or good evening, I should say. A good 15 hours of sleep was exactly what I needed after last night's little hiccup.
[Alec rises from his chair.]
ALEC: It was more than a little hiccup. You said some things.
MAGNUS: That was the bourbon talking. I'm fine, Alexander. I'm just sorry I ruined the fabulous dinner you had planned.
ALEC: It's not the dinner I'm worried about.
JACE: Hey.
[Jace and Theo knock on the open door and enters. Clary, Rose and Jonathan are right behind them.]
JACE: Is now a bad time?
ROSE: It was.
ROSE: Because we can go.
ALEC: Actually...
MAGNUS: [turns to Jace and Rose] Not at all.
ALEC: What is it?
CLARY: On the hunt, we came across a Drevak demon.
JACE: Yeah, which is weird, right?
JONATHAN: They usually keep to the sewers.
ALEC: Maybe the holiday noise is drawing them out.
THEO: Yeah, it could be.
JACE: The streets are packed with idiots in costumes.
CAROLINE: Those aren't idiots.
CLARY: Hey, I used to be one of those idiots.
THEO: Me too.
ROSE: Me three.
JACE: Shocker.
They were trying to supress their laughter on this.
CLARY: What... we love Halloween.
MAGNUS: So do I. Every year, I would use my magic to decorate an entire city block in Brooklyn. Fond memories.
ALEC: Brief ops on the demon.
[Jace, Rose, Theo, Jonathan and Clary exit the office. Alec turns to Magnus.]
ALEC: My mother has been dying for somebody to help her decorate her new shop. Now, I know it's not a Halloween block party, but what do you think?
MAGNUS: I suppose I do have an eye for design. Will you be joining us?
ALEC: Maybe later. Yeah, I have this meeting I can't miss.
MAGNUS: With who?
ALEC: Clave business.
MAGNUS: Hmm.
[HUNTER'S MOON]
[Maia and Jordan enter the bar.]
MAIA: That drive took forever.
JORDAN: You're the one that wanted to stop for coffee twice.
MAIA: Did you want me to fall asleep at the wheel? [going behind the bar] Now back to harsh reality. Bartending and rebuilding the pack. I'm so not ready for this.
[Jordan sits down at the bar.]
JORDAN: Yes, you are. You are gonna make an amazing alpha.
MAIA: What makes you so sure?
JORDAN: You're the kind of person that would drop everything for a friend and stay by his bedside till he recovers.
MAIA: Well, you did take a silver dagger in the gut for me, so it was the least I could do. Besides, I'm just glad the Praetor Lupus cured you of your silver poisoning.
JORDAN: Yeah. Me, too.
MAIA: I am sorry they let you go.
JORDAN: It was for the best. The Praetor's mission is to help Downworlders in need, and I failed.
MAIA: So, what are you gonna do now?
JORDAN: I don't know. Maybe I could cross a few things off my bucket list, and go to Fiji and finally surf the breaks off Namotu Island.
[Maia is quiet for a moment.]
MAIA: Well, don't make any major life decisions on an empty stomach. You haven't had anything since breakfast. Take a seat. I'll order you something.
[VERA'S SHOP]
[Alec enters Vera's shop, a place where Vera can commune with far away people. Vera goes to her table while making conversation with Alec.]
VERA: Who would you like to commune with, my dear? A long-lost relative? A fallen friend or–
ALEC: Asmodeus. Prince of Edom.
HAYLEY: You were not doing that.
VERA: I'm sorry. I don't understand.
ALEC: Don't you think the whole blind fortune-teller thing is a little bit tired? Look, I know you're a warlock, and your power to channel spirits is real. Are you gonna help me or not?
[Vera sits down, a little taken aback by Alec's request.]
VERA: Channeling demon royalty, that's quite a request. [knocking on the table] It'll cost extra. [Alec throws a pouch of coins on the table.] Very well. I will try to channel Asmodeus. But he will only come if he desires it.
[Alec has sat down across from Vera. She starts speaking Latin. She bows her head down, and the next moment, Asmodeus is sitting in her place. In the mirror it is visible that Vera is still there. She is channeling Asmodeus' spirit.]
ROSE: Channeling his spirit was a great idea.
ASMODEUS: Alexander Gideon Lightwood.
ALEC: You know who I am?
ASMODEUS: Of course. Clever idea, calling on me this way.
ALEC: I wasn't gonna risk summoning a Greater Demon into New York again. But I had to speak with you.
ASMODEUS: And how is my son?
ALEC: Miserable. He told me that he'll never be happy again without his magic. So, please, if you ever cared about Magnus, return what you stole.
ASMODEUS: What I stole? My son gave me his powers willingly... to save his lover's parabatai. Pathetic.
ALEC: It's not pathetic. It was a selfless act.
ASMODEUS: And one he already regrets. Immortals aren't meant to grow wrinkled and grey. In time, Magnus will come to resent you, until the bitter end.
ALEC: I'm here to prevent that future. To get him his magic and his immortality back.
ASMODEUS: Fine. I'll restore both. Under one condition. End your relationship.
CAROLINE: No. What was he thinking?
ALEC: What?
ASMODEUS: You are the source of all his suffering. You make him vulnerable, weak. With you, he'll never reach his full potential.
ALEC: You're wrong. We love each other. I wouldn't just abandon him.
ASMODEUS: Then I'm afraid you will be the death of him.
[Alec thinks about Asmodeus' proposal once more.]
ALEC: Magnus would never agree to it.
ASMODEUS: Don't give him the choice. In fact, Magnus can never know about our little arrangement, or else the deal is off. Break his heart to save his life.
CAROLINE: Don't tell me, you agreed to that.
ALEC: I had to. I had no choice.
[HUNTER'S MOON]
[Simon and Rebecca enter the Hunter's Moon. Rebecca looks around in awe, she sees horns, fangs, and more supernatural characteristics.]
SIMON: You should really lose the costume.
REBECCA: Why?
SIMON: No one else is wearing one.
REBECCA: What are you talking about? Look, that guy's dressed as a devil.
[Simon and Rebecca look at a man with horns growing out of his forehead.]
MAGNUS: That's a real warlock.
SIMON: Okay, he is a warlock. And those horns are real.
REBECCA: Really?
SIMON: All warlocks have an animal feature, a mark.
REBECCA: Oh. So, how do they hide these marks every other day of the year?
SIMON: A glamour. It's the magic we all use to hide our supernatural traits from mundanes, such as yourself.
[Maia comes up to them from behind the bar.]
MAIA: But tonight, all glamours are down. Halloween's the one night we get to just be ourselves.
REBECCA: Wait, did you just say "we"?
SIMON: Maia's a werewolf. I forgot to mention that.
ELENA: She didn't know.
[Maia makes her eyes light up in green.]
REBECCA: Oh. Cool.
[THE INSTITUTE, WEAPONRY]
[Izzy has called Alec, Jace, Theo, Rose, Jonathan and Clary to her office to discuss what she found.]
ISABELLE: I ran some tests on Achatius blood. The heavenly fire serum caused a reaction that purged all of its demonic essence.
ALEC: So, injecting Achatius will burn away all his demon blood?
ISABELLE: And his demonic connection with Rose.
FREYA: That can end their connection.
JONATHAN: We've finally found a way to separate both of them.
[Jace pulls Rose into a hug.]
JACE: So, once we remove the Twinning rune, he won't have any influence over you. He won't be able to hurt you.
[Rose pulls out of the hug and turns to Izzy again.]
ROSE: What will the injection do to him?
ISABELLE: It will hurt. A lot. You'll feel it, too. But only until the connection breaks. After that, both of you will be fine.
CLARY: Let's do it.
ISABELLE: But there is a question I wanted to ask? As I studied Achatius' blood, it has the purest angel blood I have ever seen. What is he?
ACHATIUS: A hybrid.
[Theo looks over to Rose and she nods.]
THEO: Achatius is a hybrid, he is a part demon and a part angel. His father is an angel.
REBEKAH: That makes you an angel, too.
ACHATIUS: Right.
JACE: An angel?
ROSE: Not just any angel, he is Raziel's son.
They were shocked.
FREYA: If Raziel is your father, why did you want to kill him?
DAMON: Looks, like someone has got daddy issues.
ACHATIUS: I wanted to kill him because I was a bastard and he didn't want me, so, he cast me out of heaven. And I became furious and my hate for him grew.
ISABELLE: What?
CLARY: He is Raziel's son?
ALEC: Then, why is he acting like this.
THEO: His demon part is acting like this and his angel part is buried somewhere deep down. Lilith tricked him into becoming what he is today.
[In the door opening, suddenly Luke appears.]
LUKE: Kiddo?
[Clary turns around when she hears his voice.]
CLARY: Luke.
[Clary hugs Luke tightly for a moment. And then, Rose joins the hug.]
JACE: How did you get out of prison?
LUKE: The Praetor Lupus pulled some serious strings. I'll tell you the whole story later. Right now, I'm just here to support my daughters.
ISABELLE: I'm glad to have you back, Luke.
JONATHAN: I am also.
ALEC: We'll meet you downstairs.
THEO: Yeah.
[Alec, Jace, Jonathan and Izzy leave the room.]
CLARY: I can't believe you're actually here.
LUKE: I'm sorry I was ever gone. [to Theo] And thank you for looking after Rose while I was away.
THEO: Always.
ROSE: Let's get this rune off me.
[THE INSTITUTE, BASEMENT]
[The group has gathered in the basement. Rose and Achatius are sitting in opposite chairs of each other.]
ACHATIUS: They're trying to tear us apart, Rose.
ROSE: I know.
ACHATIUS: Well, you can still stop it.
ROSE: I don't want to.
ACHATIUS: Rose, you're making a terrible mistake. None of these people care about you the way that I care about–
KOL: You were speaking too much.
LUKE: Enough! Alec, gag him.
[Alec does so.]
ACHATIUS: Rose. Rose! [muffled] Rose, please! No! No! No! No! No! Rose!
[Theo takes Rose's hand.]
THEO: Hey, it's okay. I'm not gonna leave your side.
[Izzy takes the injection from the table.]
ISABELLE: Here we go.
ALEC: Rose, are you ready?
ROSE: Yes.
ACHATIUS: Rose! No.
[Achatius whimpers as Izzy sticks the needle into Achatius' chest. Achatius and Rose both whimper and gasp as the Twinning rune starts searing. They scream, it's frightening.]
They flinched at the scene.
LUKE: What's happening to her?
ALEC: She's burning up.
JACE: Izzy, please, you gotta stop this.
CLARY: Yeah, it must be so painful.
ISABELLE: I can't.
LUKE: Just a little bit longer, kiddo.
[Achatius' eyes turn black for a moment. Both Achatius and Rose fall back into their chairs, panting. The rune is still there.]
REBEKAH: What the bloody hell?
FREYA: It didn't work.
LUKE: It didn't work.
JONATHAN: The formula must be too weak.
ISABELLE: I have another idea. Each vial of serum contains nanoparticles of Glorious. I can separate the particles out and use them to create a new, more potent formula.
THEO: How long will that take?
ISABELLE: At least a few hours.
[Alec's phone beeps. Rose and Achatius share a couple of intense looks.]
ALEC: Ops center. Now.
[THE INSTITUTE, OPS CENTER]
[Alec is speaking to all the Shadowhunters.]
ALEC: Several patrols around the city have reported more Drevak demon attacks, and two mundanes have been killed. Remember, Drevaks are like bees. If you kill the queen, her offspring die instantly. Because of the holiday, there are going to be more mundanes at risk than usual. So, I'm going to need all available personnel in the field. Dismissed.
[STREETS]
[Clary, Izzy, Jace, Theo, Rose, Jonathan and Alec are on the hunt for Drevak demons. Rose activates a rune so she can spot demon particles. Jace, Theo, Jonathan and Alec walk right behind Clary, Rose and Izzy.]
ROSE: There's Drevak ichor everywhere.
ISABELLE: A demon must be close by.
JACE: What happened the other night?
THEO: I noticed Magnus wasn't wearing the Lightwood family ring.
ALEC: Yeah, the timing just wasn't right.
JACE: Hey, listen. we got faith in you.
JONATHAN: You'll find the right moment.
ALEC: How are things with Rose?
THEO: She's going through hell. Meeting her not so dead lover and he is all crazy and wants to do stupid things. I just... I wish I could rip that Twinning rune off her, you know?
[They stop walking for a moment.]
ALEC: You would do anything to break Rose's connection with Achatius, right?
THEO: Yeah. Yeah, of course. Maybe, after that we can even try having Achatius back.
ALEC: So, hypothetically, what if you could? But, as a consequence, you could never see her again?
THEO: That's a little dark.
ALEC: Just humor me. Would you do it?
ACHATIUS: You won't.
Theo nodded.
THEO: You know Rose literally died at a time. And now that I've lost her once, I don't think I could ever go through that again. It's selfish, I know. It's selfish. But–
ALEC: No. I get it. [looking around for Izzy, Rose and Clary]
JACE: Where'd they go?
STEFAN: You got separated.
[Cut to Izzy, Rose and Clary in an alley.]
ISABELLE: It kills me that you have to be connected to Achatius for another second.
ROSE: Honestly, I've reached a point where I don't mind.
CLARY: Really?
ISABELLE: After everything that monster has done to you?
ROSE: Achatius is not a monster.
ISABELLE: [turning around in confusion] What?
ROSE: He was rejected by his father, tortured and mutilated by Lilith. If anything, he's a victim.
ISABELLE: A victim?
JEREMY: That was the rune speaking, right?
ROSE: True.
CLARY: Rose... [Rose gives her an evil look.]
ISABELLE: This isn't you talking. It's the rune.
[Izzy wants to put her hand on Rose's arm.]
ROSE: Don't touch me!
[Jace, Theo, Jonathan and Alec come running towards them.]
THEO: Hey, hey, I'm here. I'm here.
[Theo pulls Rose in a hug.]
ROSE: Izzy, I'm sorry.
ISABELLE: It's okay. Just stay close to her, Theo.
[OUROBOROS]
[Magnus has brought a box of decorations to Maryse's shop.]
MAGNUS: Trick or treat?
MARYSE: [picking up and admiring some items] What is all this?
MAGNUS: A carefully curated box of items to spruce up your new business.
MARYSE: They are lovely. I'm so grateful Alec sent you here to help me.
MAGNUS: Oh, my pleasure. Though, I suspect it was more for my benefit than yours.
MARYSE: How do you mean?
MAGNUS: I'm still adjusting to life as a mundane, and Alec knew I could learn from your shining example. I mean, look at you. New place, new job, new look. I'm sure you're fighting off suitors left and right. [Maryse responds with a soft smile.] Or perhaps you already found one?
CAROLINE: She did.
MARYSE: What? No, I never said that.
MAGNUS: Oh, come on. Who is it?
[Maryse waits a moment, then tells Magnus.]
MARYSE: Lucian.
MAGNUS: I can't think of a more perfect couple.
ROSE: Something, we all can agree on.
MARYSE: It's just all so unexpected. When we were younger, Lucian and I were vicious rivals. First at the Academy, then in the Circle. And now...
MAGNUS: You've grown up.
MARYSE: Do me a favor, will you? Keep this to yourself, just until Lucian and I figure out what we are.
MAGNUS: My lips are sealed.
They chuckled at this.
[A big smile breaks through on Maryse's face.]
[HUNTER'S MOON]
[Rebecca and Simon are still sitting at the bar. Rebecca looks over at a couple of dancing Seelies.]
REBECCA: Wait. Fairies are real?
SIMON: They're the most evil, conniving members of the Shadow World.
KOL: Yeah, they are the most evil ones.
REBECCA: Yeah, sure. They seem terrifying.
SIMON: Trust me, Becky. And their queen? She's the worst of all.
[ACHATIUS' APARTMENT]
[Cut to the Seelie Queen, in a young woman form, entering Lilith's old apartment. Meliorn is there with her. They talk with the Seelie Lanaia, who has been living with Achatius.]
SEELIE QUEEN: So, this was Lilith's apartment. Smaller than I expected.
LANAIA: It's an honor, my lady.
MELIORN: You have good news for your Queen?
LANAIA: The New York Institute has sent out all its soldiers.
SEELIE QUEEN: Marvelous, Lanaia. According to my birds and bees, Achatius has yet to tell anyone that I possess the Morning Star sword. But it's only a matter of time. While the Shadowhunters are away, get to Achatius and pierce his heart.
MELIORN: Your Majesty, you are aware that will also kill Rosaline Morgenstern.
SEELIE QUEEN: Pity. [to Lanaia] Protect your queen... at all costs.
KLAUS: She was plotting a murder scheme.
[Lanaia and the Queen smile.]
[STREETS]
[Izzy, Jonathan and Alec are walking together.]
ISABELLE: You've been brooding more than usual, which is saying a lot.
JONATHAN: She is right. What's up?
ALEC: Nothing. And I don't brood.
ISABELLE: Come on. Remember what you told me after my relapse? "Be honest with the people who care about you."
[Alec stops walking, Izzy and Jonathan do so too.]
ALEC: Okay. Just... you both can't tell anyone. I was gonna propose to Magnus last night.
ISABELLE: What? Are you serious?
JONATHAN: Yeah, I know that part.
ALEC: Yes, but just listen. I got the family ring. I had a whole dinner prepared, and Magnus showed up drunk out of his mind. Told me how miserable he is without his magic.
ISABELLE: Oh, no.
JONATHAN: That's bad.
ALEC: I've never seen him so low. I had to do something, so I decided... I would speak with Asmodeus.
JONATHAN: What?
ISABELLE: You did what?
ALEC: I didn't summon him. I spoke to him through a warlock conduit. He agreed to restore Magnus's magic, but only if I broke up with him.
ISABELLE: You're not considering it, are you?
ALEC: Magnus lost his magic in the first place because of me.
MAGNUS: I didn't. I chose to save Jace.
JONATHAN: He chose to save Jace.
ALEC: He knew I'd never get over losing my parabatai. Magnus sacrificed everything so I could feel whole. And now I have the chance to do the same for him.
ISABELLE: He wouldn't want this.
JONATHAN: He loves you so much.
ALEC: I know. But I'm not the first person he's loved, and I won't be the last. Breaking up is gonna hurt like hell, but it's the kind of hurt he can recover from.
DAVINA: But you can't recover from it.
ISABELLE: But what about you?
JONATHAN: Can you recover?
[HUNTER'S MOON]
[Maia throws her shaker up in the air and starts shaking it more. Jordan watches her with a smile.]
MAIA: What?
JORDAN: Nothing. Just... Where did you learn how to bartend?
MAIA: It's not rocket science.
[From the other end of the bar, Rebecca makes eye contact with Jordan. Maia sees it too.]
BONNIE: She was interested in him.
CAROLINE: She can do a lot better.
MAIA: [to Jordan] It looks like you have an admirer.
JORDAN: Oh, I'm not interested.
MAIA: Are you sure? She's cute.
JORDAN: I'm sure.
[A werewolf bumps into a table, Rebecca is shocked by the transformation form.]
They laughed at her face.
REBECCA: Holy crap! That werewolf's hammered. Your girlfriend transforms into that?
SIMON: Ex-girlfriend.
REBECCA: Wait. You and Maia broke up? When?
SIMON: Pretty recently.
REBECCA: Oh, Simon, we can get out of here if you want.
SIMON: No, no, no, it was a mutual thing. I'm good. Besides, I've sworn off love.
REBECCA: Oh, come on. You are the biggest hopeless romantic I know.
CLARY: She is right.
SIMON: No, I'm serious, Becky. I'm not the same Simon anymore. Everything's different now.
REBECCA: Okay, now I'm worried about you.
SIMON: Stop, Becky...
REBECCA: No, listen. Now that Mom and I live in Florida, I just wanna know that you've got people looking out for you.
SIMON: I'm fine. I'm better than fine, really. And, if anything, I should be worried about you taking care of Mom alone. How is she?
REBECCA: She's getting better every day. And next week, she even has an interview at the DA's office.
CAROLINE: That's good.
SIMON: That's good.
REBECCA: Yeah.
SIMON: That's... that's really good.
[They are both silent for a moment.]
REBECCA: Simon, Mom could not handle the Shadow World stuff. You... You did the right thing, making her forget. [Simon nods.] I should probably check in on her.
SIMON: Yeah.
REBECCA: You know how paranoid she gets.
SIMON: Yeah.
[Rebecca gets off the bar stool. Cut to her talking to her mother on the phone outside the bar.]
REBECCA: Hi, Mom. Yeah, I made it to New York in one piece. Of course I'll tell Clary you say hi.
[Suddenly, Rebecca's cape is ripped off by a Devrak demon. He growls at her. Rebecca gasps. Then, the demon is attacked by Izzy, who has turned her whip into a spear and pierces it through the demon. It evaporates.]
They sighed in relief.
ISABELLE: Are you okay?
[OUROBOROS]
[Maryse is admiring the work she and Magnus did decorating the shop.]
MARYSE: Everything looks magnificent. I think a celebration is in order. Red or white?
MAGNUS: Neither. I'm taking a break from drinking for a while.
KOL: After, your breakdown.
MARYSE: Really?
MAGNUS: I haven't been handling my transition to ordinary human as... gracefully as I'd hoped. And I had a drunken, emotional breakdown in front of Alec last night.
MARYSE: You've been through a trauma, a loss of identity. Believe me. I understand.
MAGNUS: I feel so hopeless sometimes. And I don't want to burden him.
MARYSE: Magnus, it's not a burden. In times of crisis, the people we love want to help.
MAGNUS: I don't know what I'd do without your son.
MARYSE: We are all here for you, Magnus. You're part of the family.
HOPE: This is so sweet.
[OUTSIDE HUNTER'S MOON]
[Simon has come outside and is talking with Izzy. Alec and Jonathan are investigating the area.]
SIMON: Thank you for saving my sister's life again.
ISABELLE: Luckily, Alec, Jonathan and I were already on the demon trail when it found her.
REBECCA: It was awesome.
ISABELLE: I'm just sorry we couldn't save your, uh, coat.
REBECCA: My coat? No, this was a cape. It's part of my vampire costume.
ISABELLE: Vampires don't wear capes.
SIMON: I told her, but mundanes like to imagine vampires wearing capes. Count Dracula, Count von Count.
[Izzy starts laughing.]
ISABELLE: You're making this up.
CAROLINE: He is not. They are real.
ISABELLE: They are?
CLARY: They are.
SIMON: No, I'm not. I swear.
ISABELLE: Count von Count?
SIMON: That does sound really made up.
[Alec has found something, and calls Izzy over.]
ALEC: Isabelle, over here.
ISABELLE: The boss is calling.
[Izzy goes to Alec and Jonathan.]
ALEC: I think I know what's causing our Drevak problem.
ISABELLE: Is that a Cibus Orb?
[Izzy picks up the orb with her gloved hand.]
JONATHAN: Someone's been leaving demon bait around town.
STEFAN: Someone was planning it.
HOPE: The Seelies.
[The camera shifts back to Simon and Rebecca.]
REBECCA: Now I get it.
SIMON: What?
REBECCA: Why you're "better than fine." You're totally into Isabelle.
ROSE: She knows.
SIMON: No. No, no, we are just friends.
REBECCA: Oh, like that's stopped you before.
SIMON: Becky, I'm serious. You're way off here.
REBECCA: The puddle of drool on the ground suggests otherwise. Why don't you make a move?
SIMON: Even if I was interested, which I'm not, Isabelle has a type: mysterious, hot, bad boys. She's never gonna see me that way.
REBECCA: Don't be so sure. I may not be a shadow expert, but I know romance. And there's something between you two.
[Alec, Jonathan and Izzy approach Simon and Rebecca. Alec is looking at his phone.]
ALEC: I just got an alert. Jace, Rose, Theo and Clary are closing in on the Drevak nest. I'm gonna go back them up.
ISABELLE: I'm gonna head back to the Institute. Someone's leaving demon bait all over town, so I'm gonna test this orb for prints. Maybe I can ID the culprit.
ALEC: One way or another, we'll stop these attacks.
[The Lightwoods leave.]
REBECCA: Wait, wait, wait! Isabelle! [Izzy stops and turns around.] You should take Simon with you. He has nothing better to do.
CAROLINE: She was setting them up.
SIMON: That's not true. I have to walk you back to the apartment.
REBECCA: There's no need. I'll go inside. I'll call an Uber. I'll meet you back at your place. [hugging Simon and whispering] Don't screw this up.
They laughed at this.
[DEVRAK LAIR]
[Jace, Theo, Rose and Clary go down a bunch of stairs and enter a dark room with machinery.]
JACE: Well, don't say I never take you anywhere nice. [noticing something] Wait. Those are Drevak eggs.
ROSE: The queen must be nearby.
[They draw their weapons and continue to sneak through the factory. They hear clattering further down. A demon springs upon them from the ceiling. It growls and attacks Rose. The demon disarms Jace and throws Rose through a wall.]
The gasped at this.
BONNIE: Oh, no.
JACE: Rose!
THEO: Rose!
CLARY: Oh my god!
ROSE: [weakly] Theo.
[Rose falls unconscious. Everything around her becomes white and she suddenly wakes up in a snowy landscape. A figure is standing with his back to her. Rose rises and goes to the figure. He turns around. It's Achatius.]
ACHATIUS: Hello, love.
[Achatius holds out his hand, reaching for Rose. Black wings appear on his back. Rose is about to take his hand, but then hears another Achatius' voice in the distance.]
ANGEL ACHATIUS: Athena!
ACHATIUS: You had to choose between angel and demon me.
[Rose turns around, and sees another Achatius, with white wings, standing in the distance.]
DEMON ACHATIUS: Join me.
ANGEL ACHATIUS: No, Rose, don't! Don't do it.
[Rose holds out her hand. She connects with Demon Achatius. They both smile. Back in the real world, Rose wakes up. Her eyes turn black for just a second.]
FREYA: You gave in the darkness.
[Jace, Theo and Clary are fighting with Devrak demons. Clary pierces her sword through the demon, it evaporates. More growling comes from the shadows. The Devrak queen is gigantic and rises way above Theo.]
THEO: You're in my way, Your Highness.
[Before Theo or the Devrak queen can attack, an arrow is shot in the queen's chest. Jace, Clary and Theo look behind them, and see Alec, Jonathan and Izzy.]
THEO: You're late, brother.
ALEC: Better late than never.
HAYLEY: True.
[They fight off the queen, Jace and Clary with their blade, Alec and Theo with their arrows. Eventually, they defeat the Devrak queen, and it dissolves in a flash of light.]
CLARY: We have to get to Rose.
[They run towards rose.]
ALEC: Are you okay?
ROSE: Never better. Just a little bruised.
THEO: I'm so sorry.
ROSE: Wait, why are you apologizing?
THEO: I promised I would never leave your side.
ROSE: Theo, relax, okay? It was just a few minutes. Okay?
[Theo hugs Rose, not aware that she has just strengthened her bond with Achatius.]
FINN: You didn't know their bond was strong.
ALEC: You guys go ahead to the Institute.
THEO: What about you?
ALEC: There's something I have to do.
They realised he was talking about the break up.
[HUNTER'S MOON]
[The bar is getting empty. Jordan is helping Maia clean up.]
MAIA: [to a customer] Night. [to Jordan] I really appreciate your help. Tonight's crowd was extra sloppy.
JORDAN: No problem. I'd better go.
MAIA: Jordan?
JORDAN: [stops and turns around] Yeah?
MAIA: I want you to stay... for the pack. If I'm going to be a strong alpha, I'll need a beta by my side.
JORDAN: A beta?
MAIA: A second-in-command. Someone I can rely on. And that's you.
JORDAN: Maia, you... You've been so generous to me, and it's more than I could possibly deserve. But, uh... this isn't a good idea.
MAIA: Why not?
JORDAN: I'm the guy that Turned and abandoned you.
MAIA: I forgive you for that. When we were locked in the storage room, you probably just didn't hear me.
JORDAN: I heard you. I... I assumed you said it because I was dying.
MAIA: No. I said it because you've changed. I've seen it for myself. You're... You're committed to being a good person. And that is why you'll make a great beta.
[Maia pours her and Jordan a shot.]
JORDAN: You know, I've never had a pack before.
MAIA: [raising her glass] To the new New York pack.
[Jordan and Maia smile, click their glasses and take the shot.]
They also smiled a little at this scene.
[THE INSTITUTE, WEAPONRY]
[Isabelle is analyzing the orb with her equipment. Only Simon is with her.]
SIMON: Wait, where is everyone?
ISABELLE: Out hunting Drevak demons.
SIMON: So... just the two of us... alone.
ISABELLE: Uh-huh.
[Izzy's machine beeps, and images of finger prints appear on the screen.]
ISABELLE: I just got a hit. A Seelie nymph named Lanaia.
SIMON: With quite the criminal record.
ISABELLE: I'll submit a request to bring her in for questioning.
[Simon watches Izzy type and stroke her hair out of her face. Simon seems nervous. Izzy smiles and turns to him.]
ISABELLE: Simon, why are you being so weird?
[Simon flinches, thereby pushing over an empty bottle on the desk.]
SIMON: I'm not being weird. [fixing the bottle] Maybe I'm being a little weird, but it's because of something Becky said. She said something that, you know, got into my head.
ISABELLE: Siblings are good at that. They know us better than anyone.
SIMON: Maybe she was right.
ISABELLE: Right about what?
[Their faces are very close together now.]
Caroline was hoping the moment to happen.
[Then the building starts rumbling.]
CAROLINE: No.
All of them look at Caroline and she gives them a what happened look.
SIMON: What's happening?
[The alarm starts blaring loudly.]
ISABELLE: There's been a breach in the wards.
HOPE: The Seelie.
SIMON: What?
[THE INSTITUTE, BASEMENT]
[Achatius is still in his restrains. He does not have his mouth cover on. He lifts his head the door to his cell opens and Lanaia enters.]
ACHATIUS: Lanaia. You're here.
[Lanaia has a spear with her. She smiles.]
THEO: Are you okay? What did you see on the other side of that wall?
ROSE: Nothing but darkness.
[Theo's phone starts ringing, he picks it up. Cut to who's talking. Izzy, Jace,Clary and Simon are rushing to the elevators.]
THEO: Izzy, what's up?
ISABELLE: The demon attacks were a diversion. I think some Seelie nymph is trying to break into the sub cells to get to Achatius.
THEO: Did you speak to Alec?
ISABELLE: He's not picking up. You have to get back here. Hang on. We're coming.
[At that moment, Rose hits Theo in the head with a pipe from behind. He falls to the ground and is confused with Rose's attack.]
THEO: Rose?
ROSE: I love you, dear parabatai. But I won't let you stop me.
[Rose drops the pipe and draws herself a Portal. She goes through it.]
BONNIE: You will save him.
[THE INSTITUTE, CELLS]
[Achatius has realized why Lanaia has come for him.]
ACHATIUS: I underestimated your loyalty.
LANAIA: My loyalty is to the Seelie Queen. [pointing the spear at his heart] She wants you dead.
[Rose's Portal opens in the cell and Rose immediately slits Lanaia's throat when she comes out. Lanaia falls to the ground, dead.]
ROSE: I won't let anyone hurt you... Kate.
ACHATIUS: You came for me.
[OUROBOROS]
[There's a knock on the door of the shop. Magnus opens it to see Alec.]
MAGNUS: Oh. I thought you were Maryse.
ALEC: Yeah, where is my mom?
MAGNUS: She retired for the night. She left me the keys so I can keep working. You know I'm a perfectionist. [rubbing Alec's shoulder] You okay? Oh, you seem stressed.
[Alec turns to Magnus.]
ALEC: Actually... that's what I came here to talk about. I've been feeling a little overwhelmed. And, to be honest, I need a break.
MAGNUS: That's a wonderful idea. Uh... Well, where do you wanna go? Hawaii? Jamaica? I've never been on a plane before, but let's avoid coach–
KEELIN: He was talking about getting a break from your relationship.
ALEC: No, Magnus. I need a break from us.
MAGNUS: Is this about last night? Because I'm going to quit drinking.
ALEC: This isn't about your drinking. It's about what you said. That without your magic, you could never be happy.
MAGNUS: Look, I was being dramatic.
CAROLINE: I can't watch this.
ALEC: No, you were being honest. I know the difference.
MAGNUS: Fine. I'm in pain. But your solution, to break up, how is that going to fix anything?
ALEC: There is no fixing this. You said there's nothing I can do to make it better.
MAGNUS: It's not your job to make it better.
ALEC: Well, what am I supposed to do? Just stand by and watch you suffer for the rest of our lives?
MAGNUS: This isn't you. You're not this selfish. Days ago, you told me that you couldn't bear to lose me.
ALEC: Days ago, I didn't know the spark inside of you, the one I fell in love with, was out for good.
[Alec is about to leave the shop. Magnus holds him by his arm.]
MAGNUS: No, no, no. Please. [holding Alec's face] I've lost everything. I've lost my home, my job, my powers. I can't lose you, too, Alec. Okay?
[They kiss two times.]
MAGNUS: [whispering] Stay with me, okay? Come on. Stay with me.
ALEC: Magnus... I can't. I'm sorry.
Some of them were crying by now.
HOPE: This is so sad.
[Alec exits the shop, leaving a sad Magnus behind.]
[VERA'S SHOP]
[Vera turns around the sign on the door to say she's closed. She feels a presence near her.]
VERA: Who's there?
[Vera takes a dagger and goes through the jewelry curtain. She turns around when she hears a voice.]
ASMODEUS: Hello again, Vera.
[Vera sees Asmodeus in the mirror.]
FREYA: How?
BONNIE: This is not good.
VERA: I closed our connection. How is this possible?
ASMODEUS: I am a Prince of Hell.
[It is like Asmodeus is hypnotizing Vera. She mimicks his movements, and brings the dagger to her hand. Vera's breath trembles as she makes a cut in the palm of her hand. She starts walking towards the mirror, and draws her blood on it in a pentagram shape while speaking in Latin. The pentagram lights up and Asmodeus steps out of the mirror.]
KLAUS: He enetred this world.
ASMODEUS: Thank you.
[Asmodeus approaches Vera, and kills her by twisting her neck.]
ASMODEUS: My son needs me.
CAROLINE: He is better off without you.
[Asmodeus closes the shop door behind him.]
