[Magnus is sitting in bed, partly under the covers. He's looking at a magazine with houses. Alec is getting dressed.]
CAROLINE: You were on mission house search.
MAGNUS: Two bedrooms, an absolute must. Spacious closets, required. Alexander?
ALEC: [distracted] Uh, yeah. Yeah, that sounds great.
MAGNUS: Is something wrong?
ALEC: [quickly turns to Magnus] What? No! No. On the contrary. Everything is perfect now that you're back to your old self.
MAGNUS: Well, let's not get carried away.
ALEC: I just mean now that you're healthy. So, I was thinking we could have dinner tonight, on the balcony, view of the city. The head chef can prepare something special.
CAROLINE: That's a nice plan for proposal.
MAGNUS: Oh, how romantic. May I ask what the occasion is?
ALEC: There's no occasion. I just thought it would be nice. What? I can't do something nice with my boyfriend?
MAGNUS: Oh. I am one lucky man.
ALEC: Not as lucky as I am. [kisses Magnus on the cheek] Okay. I'll see you... tonight at 8 o'clock!
MAGNUS: I'll be there with bells on.
[Magnus smile fades when Alec exits the room.]
[THE INSTITUTE, ALEC'S OFFICE]
[Alec is sitting at the desk. He opens a drawer and takes out the ring box. He opens it and looks at the family ring, smiling.]
[INTRO IS SHOWN]
Rosaline opens her eyes and flashes her alpha eyes who had golden hue. She swings her katanas and fearless rune is showed. Achatius is standing in Edom and his eyes turn black and white wings appear behind his back. Theodore's magical bow appears and he stretches its string forming the strength rune. Jonathan is shown showing his demon eyes and his seraph blade appears. He cuts the air and flexibility rune is show. Clary is seen blowing the candles on her birthday cake forming the angelic rune. Jace is seen jumping from a building with eagles surrounding him. He jumps on the ground splashing the water which forms heightened speed rune. Alec is seen a room with healing rune drawn on one of the walls. He aims his arrow. Isabelle is now shown swinging her blade forming the parabatai rune. Simon is seen wiping the blood on his lips in hotel de mort. The whole background turns black and white. Luke is seen with a wall behind him covered with runes and wolves. Magnus is drinking his cocktail. Scene splits and shows Theo and Rose using their magic and flashing their golden red eyes. Achatius hands have sparkles dancing. Then all the runes are shown burning and Rosaline, Theo, Clary, Jace, Jonathan, Alec and Isabelle are shown walking and the title Shadowhunter appears with The Mortal Instruments written below. And the screen turns black.
[TITLE SCREEN]
[THE INSTITUTE, CELLS]
[Alec is staring at Achatius, who's still in chains and a restraining jacket and mouth cover. Rose, Jace, Jonathan and Theo enter the basement.]
JACE: Did he say anything?
ALEC: No. Underhill's been questioning him about the Morning Star sword, but he refuses to speak to anyone... except Rose.
[Achatius makes eye contact with Rose.]
ROSE: Let me in.
JACE: Rose, if you get any closer to him, you're only gonna strengthen his power over you.
ROSE: As long as my family is here, I'll be fine.
THEO: Then right here is where we'll be.
[Rose enters the cell. A guard follows her and takes off Achatius' mouth cover. The guard nods to Rose, then leaves.]
ACHATIUS: Don't worry. I won't bite.
ROSE: Where is the Morning Star sword?
ACHATIUS: I missed you too.
HAYLEY: That's what not she asked.
[She rolls her eyes.]
ROSE: Where is the sword? We know it's capable of opening a rift into Edom. Is that why you want it? To release demons?
ACHATIUS: It's a Morgenstern family heirloom. It belongs in the hands of its rightful owner. You. Your family is keeping an awfully close eye on you, aren't they? Do you think your sister feels guilty about leaving you alone at the ice rink?
ROSE: I'm not here to chat, Achatius. So, if you're not going to answer my questions, we're done. [Achatius lingers, but he doesn't answer.] Have fun in the Gard.
[Rose goes for the door.]
ACHATIUS: You know these chains can't keep me captive. I'll tell you everything you want to know... if you just stay here a little longer.
ROSE: I'm listening.
ACHATIUS: Do you remember our first meeting? Who would have thought we would be here, in the end?
[Achatius' words turn into a voice over. Cut to Divine, it's a place with mountains and beautiful forests and it is even more beautiful than heaven. Cut to younger, Rose and Theo who were walking in a building which had a huge board of 'The Elanor'.]
They were mesmerized by the place.
ACHATIUS: [voice over] It was a new place for both of you with new people.
[FLASHBACK of when Rose and Theo where both still in Divine. Rose and Theo approach the headmasters of the school.]
HEADMASTER: שלום, you must be the Alpha Shadowhunters. You are quite famous in the Shadow World.
ROSE: I am Rosaline Morgenstern.
THEO: I am Theodore Lightwood.
HEADMASTER: I know who you both are. You see our school is for the special ones, so, if you want to prove yourself worth of studying here, you have to pass a test.
ROSE: More like an admission test.
ROSE: A test?
HEADMASTER: More like a display of your powers.
THEO: We are ready.
HEADMASTER: Good, then, let's get started.
[Cut to the fighting pit. Rose and Theo look at the pit.]
HEADMASTER: You both are gonna fight one of our students. If you win, you get admitted in this school and if you loose... [He claps. A door on the floor opens and they were clearly able to see the valley on the bottom.] you die.
They gasped at the moon door.
[Theo looks over to Rose, she nods.]
HEADMASTER: Now, I am gonna ask, are you both ready?
ROSE: We are.
[All the students and teachers gather around. Rose and Theo jump from there and land on the pit. Their four competitors come there.]
THEO: This is unfair, it's four to two.
ROSE: Could have been worse.
BONNIE: True.
HEADMASTER: Start!
[The students started cheering. Four of them charge on Rose and Theo, the girl attacks Rose with dual kindjals. She is very quick. Rose dodges her attacks, she notices her opponents foot work. Rose attacks on her left foot and she tumbles on the ground. Cut to Theo, whose opponents have teamed up together to attack him. They both send blasts on Theo. He does back bend kick over and dodges. Another girl attacks Rose, she controls the air and Rose starts choking. She was struggling. Rose uses her magic and the girl flies in the air and lands on the other side of the pit. Cut to Theo, who was constantly being attacked by the magic balls. He makes a shield over him and then uses his magic to knock one of the guys out. He uses his bow and aims an magical arrow on the other one. He releases the arrow which traps him in a cage. Cut to Rose, she and the girl have now reached near the moon door while fighting. Rose was just standing on the edge when the girl charged for her. It was just an illusion and the real 'Rose' was standing behind her. She was about to fall down when Rose holds her with her magic and puts her on the floor.]
The people present there were also impressed.
KOL: I love your fighting style.
[The headmaster was impressed and so was another person. His face is revealed to be of Achatius.]
[Cut to PRESENT, back to the Institute cells.]
ACHATIUS: That was the first time I ever heard your name and saw you. Rosaline Morgenstern. Your name was like music to my ears. And your face gave me an angelic aura. I felt something that I had never felt before. Hope.
KLAUS: This had nothing to do with the sword.
ROSE: This has nothing to do with the sword.
ACHATIUS: Of course it does! That moment changed everything for me. I realized that you were the only person that I needed. I felt it. Finally, I had someone to fight by my side. Not against me. Not in spite of me. But with me. Everything I do, I do for you. I want the Morning Star sword for you. For us.
DAVINA: You were lying.
ROSE: No, the Achatius I knew would have done everything for me but you only do it yourself.
[SIMON'S APARTMENT]
[Simon is sleeping on the couch with his shirt off. There's a knock on the door that awakens him.]
SIMON: One sec! [more knocking] One second!
[There is the metallic ringing of a stele and then the door unlocks. Izzy enters, while Simon rises from the couch.]
SIMON: Or you can just let yourself in too. That's cool, I guess.
[Izzy rushes to Simon.]
ISABELLE: I need to ask you something. And I completely understand if it's not something you're comfortable with. But I didn't know who else to turn to.
SIMON: Izzy, I also want to ask you something.
ISABELLE: Okay, you go first.
SIMON: Yesterday, when I bit into Achatius' shoulder his blood was not just demon blood, it was angel blood even more pure than Jace's.
HAYLEY: You have angel blood?
ACHATIUS: I do.
ISABELLE: What?
SIMON: I was confused about this thing and was thinking about it.
ISABELLE: I will let Alec and Theo know about it. But first, I need your help.
SIMON: Okay. Yeah. What is it?
ISABELLE: I need your help to save Rose.
SIMON: Of course. Whatever it is, I'm in.
ISABELLE: Good. Now, I'm placing you under arrest.
ELENA: What does this mean?
[Izzy throws a shirt in his hands.]
[THE INSTITUTE, WEAPONRY]
[Alec enters the weaponry with a sigh. Izzy and Simon are waiting for him.]
ALEC: What was so urgent? I'm very bu... [pointing at Simon] What is he doing here?
ISABELLE: I was able to de-crypt the chip I extracted from Sentry Greenlaw. I think it holds the key to breaking Clary's bond with Jonathan.
[Izzy pulls up profiles of several prisoners on the screen.]
ALEC: Greenlaw smuggled out prisoner profiles?
SIMON: And they're all Downworlders.
ISABELLE: They've been redirected from the Gard to project Heavenly Fire.
ELIJAH: It is somehow related to that sword.
ALEC: Heavenly Fire... as in Glorious?
ISABELLE: If the sword still exists, there's a good chance it's being kept in the same facility where these prisoners are being sent. This place is totally off the grid. The only way to find it is to get someone on the inside.
SIMON: But not just anyone... a vampire named Zeke Russo.
ALEC: Who is that? [Izzy pulls up Zeke Russo's profile; Simon's picture appears next to it.] You're kidding me.
REBEKAH: Don't tell me he is a doppelganger!
SIMON: A doppel... what?
ROSE: No, he is not. It's just two persons having the same face.
ISABELLE: This file has all the specifications needed to guarantee a transfer to the facility.
ALEC: No, it's too dangerous, especially with the Clave involved.
SIMON: I know the risks.
ISABELLE: Don't worry. I'll be following him with a Tracking Rune. [Izzy presses a button and a weapon cabinet pulls out of the wall.] Plus, these Seelie rings will help us communicate telepathically.
[Izzy grabs a small box from the cabinet.]
SIMON: Seelie rings?
ALEC: These rings were used by Valentine to communicate with Hodge right under our noses.
[Izzy goes back to the desk and presses a button so the cabinet disappears again. She hands Simon one of the rings. He puts it on, and it becomes invisible immediately. Izzy's does the same thing. She starts speaking to Simon telepathically.]
ISABELLE: [in Simon's head] The ring will glamour to look like your skin as long as you're awake and alert, so don't forget that you're wearing it.
SIMON: [in Izzy's head] Invisible psychic fairy ring. Check.
ALEC: So, once Zeke's inside, all he has to do is get the sword?
ISABELLE: The moment he has Glorious, I will be standing by with a team to extract him. Trust me, Alec. We can do this.
[DARK CHAMBERS]
[Simon is being escorted by two guards down a flight of stairs. He's handcuffed. They stop in front of a Shadowhunter with Seelie features, Helen Blackthorn.]
CAROLINE: Why does she look like a Seelie.
ROSE: She is a Seelie.
BONNIE: She has runes.
LOUIS: She is both.
HELEN: Zeke Russo?
SIMON: That's me.
HELEN: It's in your best interest to follow my orders in here.
[Simon hears screaming in the distance. Helen nods to the guards and they take Simon down another set of stairs. The guard takes off Simon's handcuffs.]
GUARD: Watch your ass in there. They usually like to fry you.
[The guard opens a door, there's a ray of UV light close by it. It's only out for a second and Simon is thrown into the room. The people in the room charge for the door but then the UV light is turned back on again. They gasp and hiss.]
DAMON: UV rays.
SIMON: [to himself] Where the hell are we?
[Simon hears a voice behind him.]
RAPHAEL: Not quite hell. More like purgatory. [Simon turns around; Raphael recognizes him only now.] Simon?
HAYLEY: Rapahel was there also.
SIMON: Raphael?
[Raphael approaches Simon.]
RAPHAEL: What could Simon Lewis possibly have done to end up in here?
[Simon shushes Raphael quickly, and glances at the guard that's watching them from behind the bars above.]
SIMON: Sh! [in a quiet voice] I need you to call me Zeke.
RAPHAEL: Zeke?
SIMON: Yes. I killed an old lady in Queens.
RAPHAEL: You did what?!
KOL: He didn't, Zeke did.
SIMON: Zeke did. It's a cover story.
RAPHAEL: So, you chose to come here?
SIMON: Yeah. I'm looking for an angelic blade called Glorious. It's supposed to be burning with Heavenly Fire. Does that ring any bells?
RAPHAEL: Guards don't typically share information with their inmates.
SIMON: Come on, it's a giant flaming sword. It has to be pretty hard to miss. [Helen enters the watching area behind bars with more guards.] What's happening?
RAPHAEL: Get away from the door. Go!
[The door opens, and guards shining flashlights with UV light enter.]
HELEN: Freitag. Elle Freitag.
[The guards go to one of the vampires, Elle, and capture her.]
ELLE: No! No! No! No! Stop!
BONNIE: Where were they taking her?
SIMON: Where are they taking her?
[The guards drag Elle out the door.]
RAPHAEL: I don't know. It happens every few hours. [The door closes.] Wherever they're going... they never come back.
[Cut to Izzy in the Institute, the Ops Center. She's trying to communicate with Simon through their rings. Cut to who's talking.]
ISABELLE: [in Simon's head] Simon? Simon, are you there?
SIMON: [in Izzy's head] Yeah. And I found Raphael.
ISABELLE: Raphael?
SIMON: [in Izzy's head] He's okay, but it's as bad as we thought. They're taking prisoners one by one, and they never come back. Do you have our location?
ISABELLE: No. Their wards have been reinforced. My Tracking Rune doesn't work. [in Simon's head] Any clue to where you are?
SIMON: [in Izzy's head] Dark cell. No windows.
ISABELLE: That's helpful. Look, I'll try my best to find out who authorized Raphael's transfer. Hopefully, it could lead me in the right direction.
SIMON: [in Izzy's head] Okay. Whatever you do, do it quick.
ISABELLE: I'll be there as soon as I can.
[THE INSTITUTE, WEAPONRY]
[Izzy has called Aline to the weaponry.]
ALINE: If the black site is so top secret, how are you getting your intel?
ISABELLE: I have an asset on the inside. An undercover prisoner.
ALINE: Clever.
ISABELLE: He's a good friend. He could be in grave danger.
ALINE: So... you want me to use my mom's security clearance to figure out where it is.
ISABELLE: Kind of.
ALINE: Isabelle, you know I can't...
ISABELLE: Remember that summer in Alicante, when you forged Jia's signature to get you, me, and Alec out of field training for the day?
ALINE: We were kids, and my mom wasn't even Consul yet. If she catches me, she will have me de-runed. Besides, why would I help Rose after she almost killed me?
ISABELLE: She acted that way because of her connection with Achatius. Look, if we can sever that connection, we can finally kill him. And get justice for every innocent he has ever killed.
BONNIE: I have a feeling, she did help you guys.
ISABELLE: She did.
[THE INSTITUTE, BASEMENT]
[Alec exits the elevator. He's on the phone.]
ALEC: I need flowers, about two dozen roses by 8 PM tonight. Thank you.
[Alec hangs up and goes to stand next to Jace, Jonathan and Theo, who're still watching Jonathan from the other side of the cell.]
JACE: You're nervous.
THEO: Why are you nervous?
ALEC: What? I'm... I'm not nervous.
MATT: You clearly were.
JACE: Yes, you are. What's going on?
ALEC: I'm, uh... proposing to Magnus tonight.
[Jace, Jonathan and Theo look at Alec in surprise.]
JACE: What?! Are you serious?!
JONATHAN: Alec, congratulations!
THEO: You're about to make Magnus the happiest man in the world.
ALEC: Yeah. Well... I just want everything to...be perfect.
JACE: Listen to me. It's not gonna matter what you do or what you say when he realizes he gets to spend the rest of his life with you.
[The camera shifts to inside the cell, where Rose and Achatius are still talking.]
ROSE: You're hiding something.
ACHATIUS: I'm not.
ROSE: You don't want me to know what your plan is. It'll make me hate you.
ACHATIUS: You can't hate me. You will always love me. And I would never hide anything from you, love.
ROSE: So, how did you hear about the Sword?
ACHATIUS: Lilith. She told me about it.
FINN: Of course, she is the only one.
[FLASHBACK. Achatius' voice continues in a voice over. His old self is in the castle throwing a stone again and again in the air then catching it.]
ACHATIUS: [voice over] I had been in Edom just a few years, I was ten at that time. I was still naive enough to think that my time there was temporary.
[Lilith plucks the stone out of the air the next time Achatius throws it up.]
LILITH: Must you do this?
[Lilith reaches for his throat with her hand.]
ACHATIUS: Please, please. I don't want to be burned anymore.
They felt bad for him.
LILITH: You will grow to love Edom, my son.
ACHATIUS: I'm not your son. And I don't belong here. I want to go home. There must be a way for me to go home...
LILITH: Enough is enough! [pause] I'll tell you the only way out of Edom.
ACHATIUS: How?
LILITH: Because you're part angel, someone on Earth must use a very special sword to slice through this dimension and release you... along with a slew of other demons, of course.
ELIJAH: Glorius.
ACHATIUS: What sword? Where is it?
LILITH: Your guess is as good as mine. It first belonged to Lucifer. But now, it goes by the name Morning Star.
ACHATIUS: Someone will find it. And they will rescue me.
LILITH: You foolish child. Lucifer entrusted the sword to the Morgenstern family, which means that only someone with Morgenstern blood can wield it, and that means Shadowhunters, who hunt demons and who hate demons. And if my memory serves me correctly, your father abandoned you here with me. Your mother. Achatius... there isn't a person alive who cares about you. [Achatius winces as Lilith holds her hand up to his face and burns him.] Nobody is coming for you 'cause nobody loves you like I do.
CAROLINE: I want to murder her again and again.
[Achatius is shaking when Lilith pulls her hand back again.]
ACHATIUS: You're wrong.
[Achatius runs to the window and opens the shutters.]
ACHATIUS: [screaming] Help me! Someone, please! Help me!
[Cut to PRESENT, in the Institute cells.]
ACHATIUS: Rose... one day you will return to me and I gave you my word. And you know what my word means.
ROSE: You were right these chains can't hold you up but now they can. [She chants a spell.] Thanks for reminding.
KOL: You shouldn't have reminded him.
[Rose exits the cell. The door closes behind her and she goes to Alec, Theo, Jonathan and Jace.]
JONATHAN: He suffered the same as I did.
THEO: He did but he was lucky he got out, just like you escaped.
ALEC: She loved him.
THEO: She did.
JACE: Why haven't you told us this before?
THEO: Because that was in the past and I didn't wanted Rose to be hurt. But it doesn't matters the person we are dealing with now, isn't the same person I used to know twenty years ago.
JACE: So, the sword can only be used by someone with Morgenstern blood. That's good news.
ALEC: Which means it doesn't matter what he's planning. As long as we have him locked up in here...
JONATHAN: We don't have to worry.
ELIJAH: True.
[Rose shakes her head and rushes to the elevator. Theo attempts to follow her.]
[THE INSTITUTE, WEAPONRY]
[Izzy is sitting at the desk. Aline opens up Raphael's profile on the screen.]
ALINE: I was able to access Raphael Santiago's prisoner profile. His profile has the same prefix as the other Heavenly Fire prisoners, but, weirdly, his transfer request was put in after Raphael arrived at the Gard.
ISABELLE: Who would be interested in Raphael? [Aline types something in.] Was Jia mentioned in the file?
ALINE: No. Of course not. Whoever's responsible for this is doing it behind my mom's back.
ISABELLE: Who else was there when the request was put in?
ALINE: The only person at the Gard with high enough clearance to pull something like this off is...
[Aline pulls up another profile.]
DAMON: Aldertree?
ISABELLE: Victor Aldertree?
[DARK CHAMBERS]
[The door opens once again. All vampires step back.]
HELEN: Santiago. Raphael Santiago.
CAROLINE: No, not him.
SIMON: [to Helen] Where are you taking him?
HELEN: Quiet.
SIMON: No. Take me. Please, take me!
[Raphael steps in and pulls Simon back.]
RAPHAEL: Stop! [pause] It's my time.
[Raphael goes to the guards.]
SIMON: Raphael, no... No! No!
[Simon attacks one of the guards, pushing him to the ground. But the other guard tazes Simon in the chest. Simon falls to the ground unconscious.]
DAVINA: They hit you unconscious.
[FACTORY]
[Simon wakes up in a dark room full of machinery. He is surrounded by a ring of UV light. He slowly reaches for it.]
HELEN: Careful... [Simon sits back and looks at Helen, standing at the outside of the ring.] That light'll burn. [Simon rises.]
SIMON: What do you want?
[Helen holds up the Seelie ring.]
HELEN: Where did you get this?
ENZO: She has the ring.
SIMON: It's a priceless Russo family heirloom.
HELEN: No. It's a Seelie whisper ring. Developed for Seelie spies to aid in the French Revolution.
SIMON: Agree to disagree.
HELEN: Trust me... I know what I'm talking about.
[Helen tucks her hair behind her ear, revealing that her ears are pointy.]
SIMON: You're a Seelie?
HELEN: Half. Dad's a Shadowhunter. Mom's a Seelie.
SIMON: So, what? You think a couple of runes makes you better than the rest of us?
HELEN: No.
SIMON: Then why are you torturing fellow Downworlders?
HELEN: Torture? I don't know what you're talking about.
SIMON: I guess some Seelies can lie. I heard the screams.
HELEN: You have no idea what you heard.
SIMON: Then explain it to me. Where is the Heavenly Fire?
HELEN: Why are you really here?
SIMON: I told you. I'm a natural born killer.
KOL: You just made her more suspicious of you.
[CLAVE DINING ROOM]
[Izzy enters a fancy private dining room. There is classical music playing. She makes eye contact with Victor Aldertree, who's sitting at a table. He rises as she approaches the table.]
ALDERTREE: Isabelle. I'm so happy you called.
[Aldertree, the gentleman he is, pushes Izzy's chair more to the table when she sits down.]
ISABELLE: Well... a table in the private Clave dining room? You're doing well for yourself.
ALDERTREE: I've actually been named HSD.
STEFAN: What is HSD?
ALEC: Head of Scientific Development.
ISABELLE: You're the new Head of Scientific Development? Congratulations. How did that come to be?
ALDERTREE: Well, I'm a dedicated Shadowhunter.
ISABELLE: Well, whatever it is you're doing, I'm sure it's brilliant... just like you.
[The waiters set down plates of food in front of them.]
ALDERTREE: Ah... Thank you. [to Isabelle] You know, I'm surprised you wanted to see me. In retrospect, I regret what I did to enable your yin fen addiction. I'm sorry.
Caroline scoffed ta this.
ISABELLE: I appreciate your apology. But, um... you know, part of my recovery is learning to forgive.
ALDERTREE: Well, I'm happy to see how far you've come. You look... wonderful.
ISABELLE: So... what's the latest in the sci-tech division?
ALDERTREE: It's a little too early to fill you in on the details, but let's just say I'm on the verge of a... major breakthrough.
ISABELLE: Oh... You can't tease me like that! Tell me more.
ALDERTREE: I've already said too much.
[Izzy's phone beeps.]
ISABELLE: Excuse me. This is the Institute. By all means.
[Izzy sees a message from Aline that says "In Aldertree's office. Give me 20 minutes." Izzy smiles and puts her phone away.]
FREYA: Good job, distracting him.
[THE INSTITUTE, ROSE'S BEDROOM]
[Rose started playing piano. She plays the tune of 'Lovely'. Theo stands on the door and decides to leave her alone. He leaves from there.]
They were mesmerized by her piano playing.
[THE INSTITUTE, CLARY'S BEDROOM]
[Clary goes into her bedroom. She pulls a box out of her closet and opens it on her bed. She takes out a sketchbook and starts flipping through it. She leaves it open on a drawing of a scared face in a flaming tower. Then Jonathan enters and closes the door.]
JONATHAN: Clary? You called me, is everything, okay?
[Clary takes another sketchbook and starts flipping through that too.]
CLARY: I'm looking through my old sketchbooks. When I was a kid, I had this reoccurring nightmare. It was terrifying. I would wake up screaming. My mom thought that if I drew what I was seeing, it would help me deal with it.
[Clary gives Jonathan the sketchbook. He looks at the drawing of a castle on a mountain. There is a boy looking out the window.]
JONATHAN: You dreamt of a boy in a burning tower.
ELENA: That was you.
CLARY: There was this evil queen that kept her prince locked in a burning tower, so that he could never love anyone but her. And I was the princess that was supposed to rescue him. Every time I would climb just as I'd reach the top... I would fall. I never made it to the top. I couldn't rescue him. I can still hear his screams. It was him.
LOUIS: You dreamt of him.
JONATHAN: The prince was me.
CLARY: Maybe... Maybe I was supposed to save you... but I didn't. I couldn't-
[Jonathan takes the sketchbooks out of Clary's hand and throws them on the bed. He comforts her by giving her a hug.]
JONATHAN: Clary, hey. Even if this was a message from the angels... you were just a kid.
ROSE: He was right you couldn't have done anything.
CLARY: Yeah, but if I had known, if I could've saved you, then... maybe... maybe then, you wouldn't have to go through all that.
JONATHAN: You shouldn't feel guilty, maybe, this all was supposed to happen like the way it did. And I am ready to spend another eternity in hell, if I get a family like this.
[Clary has tears in her eyes and hugs Jonathan. He hugs her back.]
They smiled at their bond.
[FACTORY]
[Helen is still questioning Simon.]
SIMON: I already told you. My name is Zeke Russo. I killed a mundane in Queens.
HELEN: Who are you in contact with?
SIMON: I told you. No one.
HELEN: Fine. Then I am calling my supervisor, who will not be as kind as I am.
SIMON: Please, do that. I look forward to meeting them.
[Helen leaves, and Simon listens with his vampire hearing if she's really gone. Then he reaches in the UV light, it doesn't burn him, because he is a Daylighter. He flees his ring and runs to another door. He opens it. It's a room full of equipment and computers.]
SIMON: [whispering] Raphael? Raphael? Raphael? Raphael?
[Simon goes up a few steps and sees a chair with locks standing in the middle. Simon does not investigate much longer, he exits the room again. Simon enters another room, this time it is full of people who are sitting at tables, chatting. Sunlight is shining in through the blinds. Simon goes to a man that's standing by the window.]
SIMON: Raphael, is that you?! [Simon pulls on his arm; then he notices the bright sunlight.] Whoa... Are you a Daylighter now?
KOL: Same question.
RAPHAEL: No. I'm not a Daylighter. [looking at his hands, then back at Simon] I'm human.
All of them were shocked.
DAVINA: What?
[THE INSTITUTE, ALEC'S BEDROOM]
[Magnus is alone in the room. He's having a drink and admiring himself in the mirror. Suddenly he notices something. He plucks a gray hair out of his head.]
FINN: A grey hair.
MAGNUS: A gray hair...
[CLAVE DINING ROOM]
[Izzy and Aldertree are done with their meal.]
ALDERTREE: I have an idea.
ISABELLE: Tell me.
ALDERTREE: After-dinner digestifs back at my place. I have the most beautiful view of the fountains from my balcony.
[Before Izzy can answer, Aldertree's phone buzzes.]
ALDERTREE: Apologies. [Aldertree checks his phone.] Work. I should get this.
[Aldertree leaves the table, which gives Izzy a chance to try and communicate with Simon through their rings again. However, she does not know that Simon's ring has been taken.]
ISABELLE: [in the ring] Simon, any news? Are you okay? Simon? Please tell me you're okay.
[Cut to Aldertree at the other side of the restaurant. He's on the phone with Helen. Cut to who's talking.]
ALDERTREE: What is it?
HELEN: There's a vampire here who's not who he says he is, and he's communicating with someone on the outside. He's asking about Heavenly Fire.
ALDERTREE: Send me his file. [Helen does so, and a picture of Simon appears on Aldertree's screen.] Don't let him out of your sight. I'll be right there.
CAROLINE: Now, he knew about you.
[Aldertree hangs up and looks back at his table. Izzy is gone.]
[FACTORY, LIGHT ROOM]
[Simon is talking with Raphael.]
SIMON: I don't understand. What happened in that room?
RAPHAEL: They injected me with something, and my body felt like it was burning from the inside out. And just when I thought I was dying... I suddenly became human again.
ELIJAH: Heavenly fire.
SIMON: It's gotta be the Heavenly Fire.
RAPHAEL: They gave me the greatest gift I could ever ask for.
[They hear a voice behind Simon. It's ex-warlock Iris Rouse.]
IRIS: You think this is a gift? [rising and approaching Simon and Raphael] It's more like a theft.
SIMON: Iris Rouse?
BONNIE: She doesn't deserve to be warlock, it's good for her.
IRIS: They took my magic, what made me who I am. They stole my very soul.
[OUTSIDE CLAVE DINING ROOM]
[Izzy is meeting up with Aline.]
ALINE: All these Downworld prisoners, they're having their powers taken away, their traits. Warlocks, werewolves, vampires, Seelies. They're making them all mundane by injecting them with Heavenly Fire.
ISABELLE: So, the Clave's had Glorious all along?
ALINE: Just a fragment of the sword, but enough to create a serum.
ISABELLE: This is the Clave's perverted way in rehabilitating the prisoners?
ALINE: Aldertree, not the Clave. And it gets worse.
ISABELLE: How?
ALINE: Aldertree is planning on using the serum beyond the prison population. He has a plan to slip it into the water supply in New York City as a trial run... for worldwide disbursement.
CAROLINE: This is totally wrong.
ISABELLE: So all Downworlders get cured whether they like it or not? Do you have the location?
ALINE: I have the coordinates.
ISABELLE: Okay. Go get backup. We have to get Simon out of there.
[Aline leaves and Izzy puts on her Seelie ring.]
ISABELLE: [in the ring] Simon, are you there? I hope you can hear me, because you need to know what's going on.
[FACTORY, LIGHT ROOM]
IRIS: The thought of living the next... 50-odd years without magic? I'll take death by actual fire over this heavenly stuff any day. At least when they kill you at the Gard they do it quickly.
SIMON: I gotta get that heavenly stuff to save my friend Rose.
[Simon runs for the door, but at that moment, Helen enters. She pulls out a knife and holds it up to Simon. Simon steps back and holds up his hands.]
HELEN: Hello, Simon Lewis.
SIMON: Okay. You got me. My name's not Zeke, and I didn't kill anyone. I just need the Heavenly Fire to save my best friend's sister's life. Only reason I'm here, I swear.
[Helen lowers her weapon.]
HELEN: I thought I was here to help people... rehabilitate the prisoners. I just found out that I was helping Aldertree create a weapon of mass destruction against Downworlders.
HOPE: She didn't know.
[Simon lowers his hands.]
SIMON: Aldertree? Victor Aldertree?
HELEN: [handing Simon the Seelie ring] Your friend Isabelle filled me in. He wants to dump Heavenly Fire in the water supply and turn every Downworlder into a mundane against their will.
SIMON: You can't let him do that.
HELEN: I don't plan on it. Look, I might be a Shadowhunter, but I'm a Downworlder too. And no one gets to take that away from me. But I can't stop him by myself. I'm gonna need help.
IRIS: I'm in.
RAPHAEL: So am I.
SIMON: He's not getting away with this.
HELEN: Okay. Isabelle's sending backup, but Aldertree is already onto the two of you. We need to destroy the supply of Heavenly Fire. Now.
[The door opens and two guards enter.]
HELEN: We have to get back to the lab.
SIMON: Okay. How do we do that?
IRIS: I'll distract 'em.
[Iris grabs the knife out of Helen's hand.]
HELEN: What are you doing?
IRIS: Go! Ah! Oh! Clave bastards! Don't you come any closer!
ROSE: One, good thing she has ever done in life.
[Iris has grabbed another mundane Downworlder and holds the sword to his throat. A guard in the back throws a knife into her head. Simon, Raphael and Helen charge for the door. They fight off the guards with their hands and weapons. Then they escape the room.]
[THE INSTITUTE, OPS CENTER]
[Alec is on the phone with Izzy, who's outside the Clave dining room. Cut to who's talking.]
ALEC: I have a team standing by whenever you're ready.
ISABELLE: It's worse than what we thought. We need to get Simon out of there. Now. I'll send you the coordinates.
[They hang up. Izzy hears a voice close to her.]
ALDERTREE: Isabelle. You never said goodbye.
HOPE: Oh, no.
[FACTORY]
[Helen and Simon enter the room where the Heavenly Fire is stored. Raphael fights off a guard at the door, then closes it. Simon and Raphael push a cabinet in front of it.]
SIMON: Not bad for a mundane.
RAPHAEL: I might've lost my strength, but I'll never lose my will to fight.
[Simon goes to Helen, who's pulled out vials with liquid out of a glass cabinet.]
SIMON: Where's Glorious?
HELEN: The Clave secretly obtained a shard from the Marianas Trench decades ago, but it disintegrated in the process of making the serum.
[There is banging on the door. Raphael tries to hold it back.]
SIMON: Is that what those vials are?
HELEN: Yeah. Most of it's in a bunker beneath the facility. Thank the Angel for self-destruct mechanisms.
BONNIE: Good, that stuff is destroyed.
RAPHAEL: Hurry. This door is not gonna hold much longer.
SIMON: Scoot over.
[Simon helps Raphael to keep the door closed.]
[OUTSIDE CLAVE DINING ROOM]
ALDERTREE: After the years of work I put into this project, I won't let you and Simon Lewis ruin it.
ISABELLE: So, what are you going to do? Have me killed... like you did with Sentry Greenlaw?
ALDERTREE: Join me, Isabelle. Be part of the revolution.
ISABELLE: You're delusional.
SIMON: He is.
ALDERTREE: The world will be a safer place once it's free from demon blood. Without the Downworld, we can focus on protecting mundanes from demons. Like we were always meant to do. No one will ever be poisoned with the abomination that is demon blood.
ISABELLE: And what about those that are born with demon blood in their veins?
ALDERTREE: They'll thank me for the favor.
They glared daggers at Aldertree.
[FACTORY]
[The banging on the door continues. Helen initiates the self destruction of the Heavenly Fire in another room on the laptop. A countdown begins from 60 seconds, and the alarm starts blaring.]
RAPHAEL: The guards are standing down.
[Simon runs back to Helen. Helen gives him the set of vials.]
HELEN: Here. Give this to your friend. It's not Glorious, but it's the next best thing. Use it for something good.
SIMON: I hope it's enough to save her. It has to be. Thank you... I don't even know your name.
HELEN: I'm Helen. Helen Blackthorn.
SIMON: [shaking her hand] Thank you, Helen. We owe you one.
THEO: You really did.
[The countdown comes to a finish, and on the other laptop they see fire rising on the cameras in another room. The building shakes as the room is destroyed, and both laptops now say "signal lost".]
[OUTSIDE CLAVE DINING ROOM]
ISABELLE: I know your wife was a werewolf who went feral and attacked you. But it doesn't justify stripping the Downworld of who they are without their consent.
ALDERTREE: If I could go back to that moment and cure Eva, I would still be holding her in my arms today.
ISABELLE: Well, I'm sorry you couldn't save her... but this fantasy of yours is not the answer.
ALDERTREE: It's no longer a fantasy, Isabelle.
ISABELLE: I can't let you do this.
[Izzy turns around to walk away, but Aldertree grabs her arm. Izzy punches him in the face with her free hand and flips him over, so he lands on his back on the ground. Jia and a big group of Shadowhunters approach.]
BONNIE: Finally.
ALINE: Victor Aldertree, by the order of Consul Penhallow, you're under arrest.
[The Shadowhunters pull Aldertree up and escort him out.]
SHADOWHUNTER: Let's go. Come on.
[OUTSIDE CLAVE DINING ROOM]
[Helen is wandering around the area. Aline approaches her.]
ALINE: You're Helen Blackthorn, aren't you?
HELEN: And you're the Consul's daughter. I'm in big trouble, aren't I?
ALINE: You did go behind the Clave's back and allowed a maniac to concoct a plan to cleanse the world of demon blood... but I admire you. Without you... well, there might not be a Downworld, at least not in New York anyway.
HELEN: I didn't do it because I'm half Seelie, you know...
ALINE: I never said you did.
[Aline walks away. Helen's look lingers.]
CAROLINE: Ooh, I am sensing some potential romance.
[THE INSTITUTE, WEAPONRY]
[Izzy, Jace, Alec, Simon, Theo, Rose, Jonathan and Clary have all gathered to talk about the situation. The vials are on the table.]
ROSE: So, you think this can separate me from Achatius?
ISABELLE: I have to run some tests, but yeah. That's the idea.
CLARY: I can't believe you guys did this.
ROSE: Without you, we would have nothing.
SIMON: Rose, we'd do anything for you. Especially if it means disconnecting you from your creepy lover.
ALEC: Well, we have Heavenly Fire. We don't know where the Morning Star sword is, but the only three people who can use it are right here at the Institute.
ISABELLE: Aldertree will be prosecuted for his crimes against the Accords. And Jia is considering commuting Raphael's sentence, along with the other Downworlders now turned into mundanes.
THEO: It's the least they could do.
HAYLEY: True.
ALEC: All right, well, if I'm no longer needed here, there's somewhere I need to be.
[Jace, Jonathan and Theo smile as Alec walks away.]
ROSE: I need to see Achatius.
THEO: I'll come with you.
[Theo and Rose leave.]
ISABELLE: You know, for a second, I was worried you weren't going to make it out.
SIMON: Me too... but thankfully, I got lucky.
ISABELLE: Luck had nothing to do with it. What you did today, putting your life on the line for the people you care about? It's pretty badass.
SIMON: You're pretty badass too.
[Clary cleared her throat and Simon blushed, Izzy shrugged.]
They laughed at this.
[THE INSTITUTE, CELLS]
[Rose enters Achatius' cell. Theo follows her in. Rose goes to take off Achatius' mouth cover.]
THEO: Don't.
[Rose still takes it off.]
THEO: What's wrong, Theo? Are you jealous of our bond?
THEO: I got nothing to be jealous of, mate.
ROSE: We found a way to destroy the Twinning Rune. You won't be down here much longer.
ACHATIUS: No. It's not possible.
THEO: It's more than possible. It's inevitable.
ACHATIUS: No. You won't do it. I have so much more to share with you. I'm your Achatius. Rose, don't let them do this!
Achatius rolled his eyes. He didn't believe it was him.
[Theo steps forward.]
THEO: You almost killed my sister. You killed a dozen Shadowhunters. People I trained with. She wants you gone just as much as the rest of us.
ROSE: [yelling] Let her speak!
ACHATIUS: I'm sorry, Achatius. I'm sorry. This is the way it has to be.
ACHATIUS: No... No!
[Theo walks to the door and knocks, as a sign that they're ready to get out.]
ACHATIUS: Lilith was right. You are a liar, you were always a liar. [Rose walks to the door.] You were supposed to be my queen. Rose? We promised each other an eternity together. [the door closes] [screaming] Rose! Rose, don't leave me! rose! Please don't leave me! Rose! Rose!
[Rose and Theo go on the elevator and the door closes as Achatius sobs.]
[THE INSTITUTE, ALEC'S BEDROOM BALCONY]
[Alec checks on the table under an upside down bowl if the ring is there. It's right between red rose petals. Alec sits down and checks his phone. After a while, the door opens. Magnus enters and goes to the balcony.]
MAGNUS: You know, I really love this pre-war architecture, it is just gorgeous. Just like you.
ALEC: Have you been drinking?
[Magnus has pulled out a flask, and holds it upside down. It's empty.]
MAGNUS: Well... apparently, I lost my warlock tolerance for booze, and... hmm.
KLAUS: You were drunk.
ALEC: How much have you had?
MAGNUS: A lot. Why? Are you judging me?
ALEC: No. I'm just... concerned. I've never seen you like this.
[Magnus pours himself a drink.]
MAGNUS: Well, no. Neither have I.
ALEC: Did something happen?
MAGNUS: Oh, you didn't hear? I lost my magic. Twice! And I'm just coming to terms with how useless I am without it.
THEO: You are not useless.
ALEC: Magnus, you're not useless.
MAGNUS: Oh, easy for you to say. You're at the top of your game with an institute of Shadowhunters at your beck and call. Me? Well, I'm just a has-been warlock who isn't good for anything, except comic relief... and drinking. But hey, I'm a mundane now, right? Just like you've always wanted.
ALEC: All I've ever wanted is for you to be happy.
MAGNUS: [frustrated] Well, I'm not! [pause] What am I doing? You put this beautiful night together and I am picking a fight. It's pathetic.
ALEC: It's okay. You're just... you're going through a hard time.
MAGNUS: Please, Alexander. Don't make me pretend this is just a phase. Because it's not. What I'm feeling now... it may never pass. For as long as I live. I should go. I've probably killed both of our appetites.
[Magnus is about to go inside and leave. Alec holds him back.]
ALEC: Stop. Stop. Listen. Magnus, I love you. Can you just, I just want to help.
MAGNUS: I know you do. But you can't.
ALEC: Okay, listen. You have to- [holding Magnus back] Stop!
MAGNUS: Alec, let me go!
ALEC: Please, stop. Just listen to me.
MAGNUS: You can't help me, Alec!
ALEC: Listen to me for a second! Listen to me! Just let me be here with you!
MAGNUS: You can't! Alec!
ALEC: Please... please...
[Magnus is softly crying in Alec's arms.]
MAGNUS: I'm sorry...
They were also crying by this moment.
[Magnus continues crying while Alec holds him.]
MAGNUS: I ruined our night. I am sorry.
ALEC: Don't be.
