Dex P.O.V
He froze. That journal- changed everything. Tears slipped down his cheeks. He thought about the things they'd said to her. How they'd made her cry with fear. They'd made her run away.
If anyone was the monster, it was them. She saved their lives that night... and they'd just... accused her of the worst things. A sob slipped through Dex's lips.
Sophie was... a hero.
"We- we were horrid," Fitz said.
Keefe wiped his tears. "We have to find her."
They all nodded.
"Let's bring it to the adults downstairs," Tam said, tugging his bangs.
They did. And they all had the same reaction as them.
"Miss. Foster is the bravest child I know. We're going to find her." Mr. Forkle said with glassy eyes.
"What if she doesn't want to come back? After the things we said to her- about her- I wouldn't blame her." Grady said, hugging Edaline.
Alden nodded.
"I can't believe I even accused her of such things. And the fact that she was willing to fake her death for us-" His voice cracked.
"We are also going to do everything in our power to find her- we took part in this. And believe us when we say we will tear the world apart to find The Moonlark." Councillor Emery said, gesturing to the rest of the Council.
"Where's that journal again?" Mr. Forkle asked.
Everyone turned around to where the journal lay.
"Would you mind if I took that back to my office and investigate?" Mr. Forkle asked.
"Take it- Please," Edaline said.
Mr. Forkle nodded and picked it up.
They were going to find Sophie. And soon.
Sophie P.O.V
In the morning, Sophie was exhausted. She hadn't slept because of the cold, and had the biggest bags under her eyes. She took a can of food and opened it with a sharp rock. And it did not look appetizing.
But she was starving, so she shoved down. Needless to say, it was gross, and it tasted like Elwins medicine-
SOPHIE! She yelled at herself. Back in the box they went. But the tears that came with it weren't able to fit in the box. Thats when she heard a whimper. She turned around to find a limping dog. It had black fur, big ears, and the most beautiful eyes.
Hey boy, Sophie transmitted. The dog whimpered in response.
Friend, She transmitted. That seemed to do the trick. The dog made its way over.
Oh, your leg has a splinter. She told the dog. She counted to three, then pulled it out. She quickly tore a piece of her blanket to use as a cast on the dog. The dog gave her a big fat kiss. She fed the dog some of her beans while she checked for a collar.
Owner? She transmitted.
The dog just stared. Poor guy must've been abandoned.
Can I be your owner? She asked. The dog barked and wagged his tail in response.
You're going to need a name... how about Midnight? She transmitted. The tog gave her another lick.
She laughed. "Midnight it is."
That day, with her extra money, she bought a used electric guitar to paly on the streets for money. It was a secret that she could sing and play guitar, but now she needed it more then ever. It was mostly wrecked, but she knew how to repair stuff like this.
