Chapter 501: The Effect of the Nourishment Pill (1)

After Jiang Duo received the Nourishment Pills, he was unable to understand how this thing was worth so much money, no matter how he looked at it.

Even if the bottle’s packaging looked pretty classy.

Jiang Duo pursed his lips and was prepared to ask Yunfeng himself when he came to get it.

As soon as Jiang Duo got home, he saw his father’s dark face and his mother’s worried appearance. His grandfather had been coughing non-stop for the past few days from a chronic illness. The doctor’s final diagnosis had been that if Old Master Jiang was still throwing up whatever he ate, they would have to prepare for his funeral this month.

Ever since then, his father’s face hadn’t improved at all. He even directly froze the money on Jiang Duo’s card, using the reason that Jiang Duo wasn’t allowed to fool around!

Jiang Duo didn’t understand; all he was doing was eating, playing games, and racing cars with his friends; how could this be called fooling around? If it wasn’t for his mother’s worried appearance, Jiang Duo wouldn’t have been able to stop himself from fighting back.

Of course, it wasn’t that he wasn’t worried about his grandfather. He had even specially visited the most famous doctors in the capital and given them his grandfather’s diagnosis report for a look. It was just that when he received the same answer, Jiang Duo felt terrible.

As soon as Father Jiang saw his son’s heedless and reluctant expression, his anger surged. “You rascal, why are you back so late? If you dare let me find out that you were racing cars again, I’ll break your legs!”

Jiang Duo hated how his father treated him like a wastrel the most. He was about to retort, when Old Master Jiang coughed and exhorted, “Okay, don’t lecture Ah Duo. This child gets it; it’s just that he doesn’t know how to express himself!”

Jiang Duo flushed at Grandpa Jiang’s words, but Father Jiang saw that his father didn’t stop coughing after he spoke.

It sounded like he was going to hack out his lungs; Father Jiang looked worried.

Grandpa Jiang had raised Father Jiang himself, so the latter was very filial. Seeing that the old man didn’t stop coughing, Father Jiang was displeased with his son again. He hadn’t seen any improvement in this kid over the years. He immediately instructed Jiang Duo in a cold voice, “Brat, pour me a cup of water!”

Mother Jiang subconsciously protected her son and wanted to help pour the water.

Father Jiang said coldly, “Does the kid not have hands? Do you want him to fall? It’s like they say, a loving mother spoils the son. I shouldn’t have let you indulge this kid back then. All he knows to do is eat and play all day long. Has he ever taken anything seriously?”

Mother Jiang was the typical gentle woman who valued her husband above all else. When she heard Father Jiang’s words, she immediately stopped and didn’t dare retort.

“If you have something to say about me, say it. Why drag my mother into it? I’m also worried about Grandpa being sick. Dad, can you not be so unreasonable?”

Jiang Duo couldn’t stand it anymore.

On the side, Grandpa Jiang wanted to appease them, but just as he opened his mouth, he coughed harder and harder. Father Jiang was worried. He was afraid for his father now.

He could only suppress his anger for the moment, and said to his son, “Go upstairs and get your grandfather’s medicine!”

Jiang Duo looked at his father, who treated him like a hedonistic son of a wealthy family, and then at the old man, whose face was especially bad and who never stopped coughing. For some reason, he suddenly thought of when he had fought to buy that thing. The effects, as written on the bottle, included fever, dry throat and cough relief, and longevity; they were especially good for the body.

His head throbbed, and he immediately slammed the Nourishment Pills he had just bought down on the table and said to Father Jiang, “I specially bought this medicine for Grandpa. He’ll definitely be fine tomorrow after eating it!”

Chapter 502: The Effect of the Nourishment Pill (2)

In fact, Jiang Duo regretted it as soon as he took the medicine out and put it on the table. After all, this medicine couldn’t be eaten carelessly. He still remembered that the shop he had bought them from was too shady. What good stuff could it have? It was just ridiculously expensive!

Father Jiang saw that Jiang Duo had randomly bought some medicine for his father, and was about to scold him, when Old Master Jiang’s coughing finally eased up a bit. He looked at Jiang Duo lovingly and waved at him. “My good grandson, come… cough, cough… over here; let me see how effective this… cough, cough… medicine is.”

“Dad, how can you be reckless when taking medicine?” Father Jiang’s face was dark. He paused and said angrily to the kid in front of him, “Where did you buy this medicine from? How dare you give it to your grandfather without knowing anything about it?”

Jiang Duo didn’t have much confidence at first, and had been about to honestly say that this medicine was bought from a shady shop and was indeed unreliable. At that moment, however, he was incensed by his father, who looked at him like he was crap. “How could I have bought it for no reason? This is a miracle medicine for treating coughs. This bottle is worth a million. I specially got these pills from a shady… from the most famous state practitioner in the capital! It’s for treating dry throat and coughs, and can prolong your life!”

Father Jiang didn’t take this bottle seriously at first, but when he heard this kid say that he had bought it at a high price from a state practitioner, Father Jiang hesitated for a while. After confirming repeatedly that this kid wasn’t lying, he believed him a little.

Moreover, Father Jiang was clutching at straws now. His father had taken a lot of hospital medicine, but they were useless. This medicine which this kid had gotten from somewhere… Maybe it really was useful?

Father Jiang didn’t have much hope. He just hoped that it wouldn’t aggravate the old man’s situation after he ate it.

But when the old man really took the medicine, Father Jiang was still worried. On the other hand, Grandpa Jiang really didn’t want to waste his grandson’s good intentions. He didn’t have much life left in his body, so he didn’t care what medicine he took.

On the side, Jiang Duo’s heart was in his throat when he saw that his grandfather was really going to take the medicine. He didn’t expect the million-yuan medicine from this shady shop to have any effect, but it shouldn’t have any side effects, right?!

The owner of this shady shop would at most sell fake medicine; they wouldn’t sell medicine that could kill people, right?

The more Jiang Duo thought about it, the more nervous he became. While consoling himself, he immediately took out his phone and clicked on the Taobao shop when Father Jiang wasn’t paying attention. He found the shop owner and immediately sent a message: “Shady shop owner, your pills won’t kill people, right?”

The other party’s reply was quick and cold: “You won’t die from eating them!”

Jiang Duo stared at these words and heaved a sigh of relief.

Old Master Jiang ignored Father Jiang at that moment and took out the bottle stopper. Immediately, a light and pleasant medicinal herb fragrance wafted over from the mouth of the bottle. For some reason, when Grandpa Jiang smelled the fragrance, his spirit abruptly jolted and his body felt a lot more comfortable.

Old Master Jiang quickly poured out a Nourishment Pill. As soon as he did so, the herbal fragrance intensified, but Grandpa Jiang wasn’t put off in the slightest. Instead, the more he smelled it, the more comfortable his body felt. His throat had still been itchy earlier and made him want to cough, but after smelling this fragrance, it actually felt much better?

Father Jiang, who was standing next to him, was also jolted by the dense medicinal herb fragrance. Although he also felt that this “pill” might be something good, he thought about how his son was very unreliable, and he was afraid that this kid had gotten some fake medicine from somewhere for the old man to eat. Seeing that the old man was about to take the medicine, Father Jiang was still a little worried. “Dad!”

Grandpa Jiang had also seen a lot of the world. At that moment, his eyes were fixed on the white, fat, and translucent pill, and he felt that this thing wasn’t ordinary.

Grandpa Jiang, who originally didn’t have much expectation, couldn’t wait to swallow this “pill.” Grandpa Jiang pulled Father Jiang’s hand away and directly swallowed the pill.

When Jiang Duo saw his grandfather swallow the “pill,” he felt a little uncertain and afraid. “Grandpa… Grandpa! Are you… a little better?”

Chapter 503: Jiang Duo’s Regret

Father Jiang and the others were worried, especially Jiang Duo. After his grandfather took that “pill,” he still felt some regret. He was afraid that this pill would have some side effects.

As soon as Grandpa Jiang took the “pill,” he felt a wave of heat spread throughout his limbs and bones; it was a very comfortable sensation. He had taken many pills before, prescribed by all sorts of famous and authoritative doctors, but the only thing he felt when he took those pills was an increased burden on his body.

On the other hand, after eating the medicine which Ah Duo had brought back, he didn’t know if it was a psychological effect, but he felt much better. His itchy throat also felt much better, and his body felt very comfortable. Also, he especially liked the herbal fragrance; the more he smelled it, the more comfortable he felt. However, the old man felt that it had to be a psychological effect. How could medicine be so magical?

Grandpa Jiang’s voice was much stronger than before. “Grandpa is fine! Good kid!”

Father Jiang and the others heaved huge sighs of relief. Seeing that Jiang Duo was still holding the water and had yet to give it to his father, Father Jiang was about to open his mouth.

Grandpa Jiang said coldly, “Okay, stop scolding Ah Duo!”

Old Master Jiang was usually very authoritative. Since his father had said so, Father Jiang didn’t dare continue scolding his son.

Grandpa Jiang looked at Jiang Duo fondly and said, “I accept his good intentions first.” When Grandpa Jiang thanked him, Jiang Duo hung his head and felt even more guilty in his heart.

Father Jiang knew that his father wasn’t in good health, so he prepared to help him upstairs to rest. Grandpa Jiang usually didn’t have much energy, but at that moment, he felt that he did have some. Nevertheless, he didn’t refuse Father Jiang’s support as he went upstairs to get some rest.

After Grandpa Jiang and Father Jiang left, Mother Jiang, who also knew that her son was usually unreliable, hurriedly said, “Ah Duo, where on earth did you buy that medicine for your grandfather? You can’t buy any random thing. Did you clearly explain your grandfather’s condition to the doctor?”

If something really happened to the old man because of Ah Duo’s medicine, Mother Jiang didn’t dare imagine the consequences.

Jiang Duo also felt twitchy. Although he saw that his grandfather’s complexion had improved a bit, he was still a little worried that his grandfather would suffer bad effects from eating that medicine.

Although the shady shop owner said that the medicine wouldn’t kill anyone, would someone who sold medicine that was fake or had side effects honestly tell customers that it was fake?

Jiang Duo really regretted taking out the pills in a fit of pique just now. He thought of Lu Yunfeng; initially, he was going to tell him about his grandfather’s illness and how his grandfather had taken a pill.

Feeling guilty, however, he directly sent a message: “Yunfeng, these Nourishment Pills you bought are too expensive. What kind of treasure are they?”

Lu Yunfeng replied quickly: “They aren’t treasure; they’re just ordinary pills!”

Jiang Duo: “Ordinary pills? Any side effects?”

Lu Yunfeng was well aware of Jiang Duo’s unreliable character. He was afraid that this kid would become addle-brained after one too many drinks and then eat his treasure like candy. He quickly replied, “Don’t eat it randomly, or there’ll be side effects!”

After Jiang Duo returned to his room, he didn’t reply to Lu Yunfeng’s message. He felt that he was definitely finished. If something happened to his grandfather, his father definitely wouldn’t spare him. The more Jiang Duo thought about it, the more regret he felt, and the more he wanted to cry.

Also, his grandfather was so good to him. What if he harmed his grandfather with fake medicine just because he quarreled with his father?

Jiang Duo hadn’t thought of how serious the matter was, but now, the more he thought about it, the more uneasy he felt.

The more he thought about it, the more he felt that if something happened to his grandfather, his father definitely wouldn’t let him off. Should he write his will first?

Chapter 504: Mom, Dad Is Going to Kill Me

The more Jiang Duo thought about it that night, the more he felt like he had nothing to live for anymore. He felt that if something happened to his grandfather tomorrow, his fate would be incomparably tragic.

Jiang Duo didn’t sleep until 3am.

He frequently went to the door of Grandpa Jiang’s room and paced up and down. It was a pity that the old man was getting the rare good night’s sleep that night, so he had no idea that his grandson was pacing outside his room.

Jiang Duo, on the other hand, wanted to steal back the medicine which he had given to his grandfather, and tried to comfort himself with the belief that his grandfather could still be saved since he had only taken one pill.

But his grandfather’s door was tightly shut.

Jiang Duo heard movement in his parents’ room, and was so intimidated that he hurriedly ran back to his room.

At 3am, Jiang Duo was still awake, and his eyes were red and swollen. Just in case, he sent his final words to his close friends, telling them not to think of him anymore. He wanted to send it to Lu Yunfeng first, but when he thought about how he had used that medicine, he felt guilty and didn’t say anything, and only transferred back the 1.5 million which Lu Yunfeng had sent to him earlier.

By the time he was done writing all sorts of final words and messages, it was almost daybreak. Jiang Duo pulled the blanket over his head and wept, afraid that he would hear some bad news early in the morning.

Jiang Duo didn’t sleep the entire night. He prayed to the gods and hoped that his grandfather’s condition wasn’t worse in the morning. It weighed on his mind, and his eyes were open until 9:30 in the morning.

Father and Mother Jiang had woken up early. Father Jiang hated this kid’s habit of lazing around in bed the most, so he immediately had Mother Jiang go upstairs to call Jiang Duo down.

Mother Jiang nodded.

“Wait, Ah Rou, where’s Dad? Or did he wake up early and go out?” Father Jiang knew very well that his father had suffered a lot of internal injuries in the past, and as he got older, he didn’t sleep as well. He usually woke up earlier than they did. Ever since his father’s health deteriorated this month, he woke up even earlier in the morning. However, he was prone to coughing and his health wasn’t good, so how could he go out?

Mother Jiang also looked worried when she heard Father Jiang’s words. “It seems Dad… is still asleep? He hasn’t woken up!”

“How can Dad still be asleep?” Father Jiang took no notice of Mother Jiang’s words. The more he thought about it, the more uneasy he felt. He hurried upstairs, worried that something had happened to the old man after the latter ate the medicine which Ah Duo had brought back last night. If something happened to his father, he would cripple that kid.

On the other hand, at the thought that the old man still hadn’t woken up, Mother Jiang was terrified, and hurriedly went to her son’s room.

Jiang Duo wasn’t asleep to begin with, and when he heard the knock on his door, he couldn’t help but shiver. When he heard that it was Mother Jiang, he hurriedly got up and opened the door.

Seeing her son’s bloodshot and swollen eyes, Mother Jiang was worried. “Ah Duo, what’s wrong with you?”

Jiang Duo swallowed his saliva. “Mom, did Grandpa wake up today? How’s his complexion today? Has it improved?”

He wasn’t hoping that his grandfather’s condition had improved; he just hoped that it hadn’t worsened.

Recalling how the old man hadn’t gotten up that morning, Mother Jiang was somehow scared witless. She hurriedly said, “Ah Duo, tell me honestly, where did you buy that bottle of medicine?”

Jiang Duo didn’t dare lie to his mother either. He suddenly burst into tears and cried miserably. “Mom, I’m finished, I’m finished. Dad’s going to kill me. I hurt Grandpa! I hurt Grandpa!”

Jiang Duo choked and cried as he said that he had helped his friend buy it from a shady shop. Yesterday, he couldn’t stand his father scolding him, so he took out the bottle of medicine without thinking. Seeing his mother’s face turn pale with fright, Jiang Duo’s eyes turned red. “But it said on the bottle that the medicine is good for the body and can prolong one’s life! No, I’m going to destroy that shady shop!”

Chapter 505: The Effect of the Nourishment Pill (3)

At that moment, Mother Jiang was really scared witless by her son’s words, especially when she thought about how the old man hadn’t gotten up yet. Her vision turned black.

She felt that the old man might really have some side effects from eating the fake medicine which this rascal bought from that shady shop, which was why he hadn’t woken up this morning.

If something really happened to the old man, Mother Jiang felt that Father Jiang would kill this kid.

What sin had she committed?

How could her son be so naive and foolish? He dared to let someone take this medicine, and it was even his grandfather. Forget Father Jiang, Mother Jiang herself almost picked up a feather duster to teach this kid a lesson.

Seeing his mother’s face, Jiang Duo’s face grew paler and his eyes reddened. “Mom, did something happen to Grandpa? Did something happen to Grandpa? It’s all my fault! It’s all my fault!”

Jiang Duo squatted on the ground and wailed. The more he cried, the more miserable he became, and the more despair he felt!

Mother Jiang was really scared now. She only had this one son. What if he was beaten to death by Father Jiang later? Mother Jiang really had no choice but to let this kid run away first. She would go take a look at the old man’s condition later. It would be fine if it wasn’t serious, but if something really happened, she didn’t know what to do.

Jiang Duo shook his head. “Mom, I’m not running. I hurt Grandpa. I’m going to see Grandpa!”

With that, Jiang Duo ran to the old man’s room.

Downstairs, Father Jiang was worried that something had happened to his father after taking the medicine, so he hurriedly went upstairs to see his father. Who would have thought that the bedroom would be empty? His father wasn’t inside at all.

Father Jiang grumbled and was worried. Just as he went downstairs and was about to go out and look for his father, he saw the old man return in high spirits.

The old man was covered in sweat, and his initially haggard face was now rosy. Father Jiang was so shocked that his eyes popped out. He said worriedly, “Dad, where did you go?”

His father had been coughing so badly last night that he couldn’t take more than a few steps. Why was his complexion so rosy so early in the morning today? He was even able to go out on his own.

Looking at how his father was sweating profusely, it seemed like he had walked a lot.

Wait!

This wasn’t the surge before death, right?

Father Jiang’s heart thumped and he immediately looked worried!

Old Master Jiang didn’t know what his son was thinking. Ever since he ate the “pill” which Ah Duo had brought back last night, he felt especially good. He usually couldn’t sleep at night because of his old injuries; who knew if it was because of the “pill,” but last night, he actually slept until dawn. He was full of energy and practically didn’t cough much.

Old Master Jiang was amazed. The more he thought about it, the more he felt that the medicine which Ah Duo had bought back this time was simply miracle medicine. Because he felt especially comfortable after taking this pill, Old Master Jiang took another one without thinking early in the morning.

After taking the second pill, Old Master Jiang felt even more energetic. Instead of convalescing at home and feeling restless, he didn’t even think as he went out early that morning for a walk; he even went to the nearby square to do Tai Chi with his old friends.

His old friends were amazed when they saw that Grandpa Jiang’s health had improved. After all, they all knew that it was difficult for Grandpa Jiang to walk even a few steps because of his illness. Thinking about how this group of friends had assumed that he was on his deathbed, Grandpa Jiang was so angry that he didn’t stay for long.

He ran into Father Jiang, who was looking for him.

At that moment, Grandpa Jiang replied in a good mood, “I went out to do Tai Chi with my old friends!”
