✦❘༻༺❘✦

"Felix- put me- down! Right now!" Chan all but screeched between breaths at a pitch he didn't know he was capable of reaching and desperately gripping onto the white dragon, a good twenty metres off the ground.

His eyes were clenched shut, face pale with fear and stomach churning at the swift turns and swirls the dragon performed.

He was not made for this.

You humour me.

"Put me down!" Chan replied in frustration.

Nearly crying out in relief as the ground grew closer, Chan huffed and puffed, fingers caressing the grass he kneeled in, tears in his eyes and thanking God for letting him live to see another day silently.

"I am not a toy for your amusement and- oh for fuck's sake put on some damned clothes you shameless reptile!"

What did I do to deserve such a fate?

"No," Felix answered stubbornly, plopping down as close as possible to the human, scaled tail coiling around Chan's arm.

It had been weeks since the Prince had returned from his journey with a dragon shifter instead of a princess and there was no signs of the beast leaving any time soon.

Not with the way he clung to Chan like glue, glaring at anyone that came within a 3ft range to the human who'd glance apologetically when the dragon would snarl threateningly, claws ready to sink into flesh.

Albeit the inconvenience of dragging a clingy, protective and very aggressive dragon shifter around all day and night (yes, he'd even sleep in the same bed as the Prince. Sometimes sit on the bed, back straight as he stared out the window all night, cold eyes entranced by the moonlight and sometimes he'd shift into his larger form, body having to curl multiple times for him to fit in Chan's room, snout heavy in his lap and breaths lulling the human into a deep slumber), the brunette found himself growing accustomed to Felix's demanding presence.

He was almost fond of him.

Almost- not when he'd pick him off the ground with his claws and throw him onto his back whenever he wished to give Chan a heartattack.

Or when he'd chomp on raw meat, purring happily as Chan struggled to keep his own meals in his stomach.

Atleast it wasn't human meat.

Chan crossed his free arm behind his head before leaning back to lay in the grass, somewhat glad Felix had managed to steal him from his responsibilities once again.

He released a slow sigh, breath evening out in a relaxed daze with the dragon's hellish body heat and the soothing sound of nature, the sky a marble of pastel pinks and purple.

Sleep. I will watch over you.

Ah, Chan thought, as he slipped under. I must have saved a bunch of people in my past life to live this fate.

✦❘༻༺❘✦

Chan woke to the vibrations of the dragon's soft purs against his stomach, where Felix had apparently laid his head, the rest of his body curling around him awkwardly.

Only after blinking the sleep away, did he realise he was covered in sweat from the heat the dragon radiated. It didn't help that Felix was practically laying on top of him, acting as his personal blanket.

"Felix," he whispered, cringing at the way his voice cracked unevenly. "Wake up."

The white-haired male opened his eyes, no sign of his sleep visible as he stared at Chan, blue, slitted eyes unblinking.

"Did I wake you?"

"Uh," Chan hummed dumbly, drowning in pools of blue before processing the question with embarrassment painting his ears red. "Uh-no- I mean yes- it's just you're really hot."

It took a good moment for him to realise the double meaning of what he said, stumbling to save himself from even more embarrassment as the shifter simply tilted his head in confusion.

Chan huffed (he's been doing this a lot recently) at the lack of response and sat up with a groan.

"We should head back."

The sky was no longer splattered in colour, now a pitch-black freckled in stars.

Felix unwound himself from the human before standing, back to Chan as he stretched, preparing to shift.

So Chan hurried desperately. "Why don't we just walk? We can walk, let's walk-"

The dragon-shifter's snickering was the last he heard as he was, once again, thrown onto the back of the white dragon.

But, the cool night air did feel refreshing against his damp skin, and for once, Felix replaced his abrupt twirls and tricks with a steady glide that allowed the two to enjoy the view and the calm that surrounded them.

"Felix," Chan uttered, knowing the dragon heard him perfectly fine with the way his pointed ears twitched. "If you leave, would you come to visit me?"

"Will you miss me, dear prince?"

Yes. So much.

Chan didn't reply.

"When has a dragon ever left behind his hoard of gold?"

The prince smiled weakly, relief overriding the uncertainty. "So it's a promise then?"

If only he saw the tender gaze the dragon carried. "It's a dragon's fate."

✦❘༻༺❘✦

What Chan should have known, was that Felix had quite literally bonded their souls.

But he didn't realise what this meant until his best friend had come running up to him, a book thicker than the span of his head clutched between his fingers. Thankfully, Felix approved of Jisung (not that he needed the dragon's acceptance, but it did feel nice for the shifter did have good intuition when it came to reading humans), so no blood was shed.

However, the white dragon did shift uncomfortably, eyes glued to the book he now held. So he glanced at him questioningly, worried for Felix never seemed to be phased by much.

But he only puffed stubbornly, following him to his room where he spent a good few hours skim reading pages of the ancient book, back resting against the headboard of his bed, Felix leaning against the wall directly opposite him.

He didn't know if the knowledge he was acquiring was helpful or bordering an invasion of privacy.

Most of what he was reading was breaking everything he was taught to be the basic principles of nature.

What was he supposed to do with the knowledge of male dragon's enjoying breeding/ being bred as a time pass? The latter was what had him questioning everything he knew.

I mean, good for them I guess. The more you know.

That means Felix- nope. No. Holy thoughts. Puppies and rainbows.

His eyes fell on the words inked in bold cursive, 'A Dragon's Fate'.

Despite his already drying eyes, he read on eagerly, ignoring Felix's burning gaze.

Dragons are greedy. Selfish. They must have what they want, and so, one may think a dragon may mate multiple times. However, this is a misunderstanding many have of the rare creatures of nature.

Dragons bond once in their lifetime.

The act of a bond is simple. Once they have chosen, they will not let go, not until it is known that you belong to them.

Like it is an inevitable fate for a dragon to be blinded by shiny metals, it is impossible for a dragon to leave their prized jewel- their mate.

If you have never felt the loyalty, love and devotion of a dragon, I pity you. If you understand the feelings I describe, I pray for you.

If you are mated to a shifter, you must trust your dragon. They will care for you like no other, for you are their prized jewel after all.

Chan slammed the book shut.

His heart raced with fear, with hope, with the possibility that-

"Felix, have you- do you have a mate?" He stuttered in his rush.

The dragon only stared at him, slitted pupils sending shivers down his spine but he forced himself to hold his gaze.

He had to know- he needed to know.

The white haired male broke the silence after a few seconds, in exasperation. "Foolish human."

It wasn't enough.

Chan frowned in annoyance, pushing the book aside as he stood to approach the dragon shifter, nibbling on his bottom lip anxiously.

Felix didn't move, other than his tail that found its way around his wrist when he was close enough (like usual) as he gathered his fleeting courage and cupped the dragon's cheeks gently, thumbs caressing the white scales scattered across his cheekbones, the thought of being skinned alive crossing his mind.

Never in a million years would he have expected the dragon to blush.

Felix, the unphased dragon shifter that ate princesses as a snack, blushing because of him.

Dear lord, how he hoped.

"Answer me. Please."

Albeit hesitating, Felix replied in confidence. "You are my prized jewel, my prince."

Chan released a shaky breath.

Before frowning again. "Were you never going to tell me? I think it's a pretty big deal y'know. Since you decided to choose me as your mate and all that, I have the right to know everything that is tied to being your mate-"

"The first thing you should know, my dear prince, is that," Felix's blue eyes darkened, like a cloud before it rained, lustful intent clear as day. "I am hard to please."

Chan let Felix tug him closer by the wrist, sandwiching the dragon between himself and the wall, not even bothering to hide his red ears and flustered expression.

Trying his best to not let his shyness overtake him, he leaned closer to the purring dragon. "We'll see about that."
