Chapter thirty seven:
"Rosetta and Nicholas will go here, while me and Emily will go here, while Alex and Katelynn go through here. Go it? Good, lets go." Maxton just laid out the plan in a little picture he drew in the dirt and I think I understood it but hopefully Alex understood.
"Hey guys? Just try to stay hidden." He said before running off with Emily to the castle.
The last of us quickly ran off to do what we were told and while Alex and I were trying to stay hidden, we found some clothes to blend in that we threw on.
Everyone that was human there seemed to stuck up to notice us as we walked down the halls that were dark with only the light of one torch on each wall. That helped with the blending in too, but I still think some of the Markslins gave us curious glances as to if they knew something wasn't right about us.
I moved further into the shadows of the halls and walked quicker hoping Alex would do the same.
He whispered so soft I almost didn't catch what he said,
"Calm down and walk slower if you want to blend in."
"Sorry." I whispered walking slower and closer to him.
A few of the Marksins ran past the end on the hall I front of us and one of them screamed,
"Human! Humans on the Southgate! Do not let them pass! Destroy them anyway possible!"
No. That was the gate Emily and Maxton were on. There was only two of them and unlimited Markslins most likely. I panicked and my heart started racing and I started to run the direction they went but Alex caught me before I could go help.
"Shhh....the last thing we need is for them to know you're here. It's Maxton and Emily, they work great together. They'll be fine I promise."
"Are you sure?"
"Positive."
I didn't have much of a choice but to hope they would be okay. I gave in and followed Alex the other way.
My mind was racing with the thought of them getting hurt, and all the possibilities that came with it.
More Markslins ran past us and I tensed even more and I felt like I couldn't breathe.
Alex gave me a comforting look and I could breathe a little better but I was still tense.
"Where exactly are we going to?" I asked.
"To the center of his castle where he keeps the stone high on a pedestal in a small round room."
I just nodded and kept looking around. I don't know how people lived here, or how anyone found this a great place to be. what was it with villains and their creepy lairs. Can't they have a normal place for once.
Just like the first time, a Markslin yelled out 'humans' but this time it was the Eastgate and that meant Rosetta and Nicholas were spotted as well.
I pulled up a hood that was on the clothes we found and tried to blend in even more.
Every person here seemed to be running around and here me and Alex are just walking.
I think I jinxed us.
My hood was pulled back and I was turned around.
"Who are you!" A Markslin growled holding me ready to attack.
"Uh..."
"It's you, the one the master talks about! You are coming with me!"
"Sorry buddy, but she's mine." Alex grabbed the thing and punched it square in the face knocking it unconscious.
Everyone that was around saw and heard what was said and so every one was looking at me like I was there dinner and came after us.
"Come on!" Alex grabbed me and started running through all the grabbing hands.
A few times they almost yanked my hair out but we got away and everyone seemed to be after us now.
Up ahead I saw a door that looked really different compared to the others and I knew it was were we were going.
"Faster!"
Alex pulled me urging me to move my legs at inhuman speed. The door was coming closer by the second and we were quite a way ahead the angry mob behind us.
Alex grabbed the door handle and threw it open and pushed us in closing the door with him. He latched it and turned some other locks so they couldn't open the door.
They were all banging on the door like savages and trying to bust the door down to get to us on the other side.
In the room there was another door on the other side of the room. In the middle of the room was the pedestal that was just a little bit over the limit I could reach, and the ruby sat on top of it and it practically glowed just sitting there. There was no light in here except for the skylight on the roof that lit up the ruby and the rest of the room was pitch black shadows.
"C'mon, give me a boost." I said pointing at the floor where I wanted him to kneel.
"Fine." He got down on his hands and knees and I stepped on his back and I reached for the prize that would give me my father back.
Just as I placed my hand on it, my bones shook to the core when I heard a voice.
"Ahh, Katelynn. I've been waiting so long for you to arrive. I hope my servants weren't much of a trouble right?" It was a mans voice.
I practically fell off of Alex trying to think of why this man sounded so familiar.
"Who are you?" I asked looking into the shadows to try and get a glimpse.
"Oh, why my love, how could you not remember me?" He chuckled.
"I said who are you!" Alex stood next to me, ready to attack and I had a feeling he knew who the voice was.
"Very well, ruin the surprise." He stepped out of the shadows, his boots echoing off the empty walls.
I gasped when he stepped out and I almost fell to the floor dropping the ruby and it rolled near him.
"A-Ander?" I couldn't breathe, I was in too much shock. He was standing right in front of me!
"Hmmm, yes I suppose, see how could you not remember me?"
"Wait! Wait, wait, wait a second here. This is Ander?! Lundstoff is Ander?!"
"I don't know I just... I can't... it's not-"
"It is me, Darling. You see, I found you and I thought it was going to be quite hard to gain your affection," he bent over to pick up the ruby and looked at it as if examining it, "but we connected together just like that! To bad they stole you before I could show you this place."
"This place is CRAZY!! And you'd want me to live here! I don't even think I know you anymore."
"Katelynn, but you do, I never lied to you when I told you I loved you, or brought you flowers on your birthday. I do have feelings for you, can't you see?"
"Katelynn, he's lying to you, don't listen him."
"I'm not lying! You know I'm not and I can see it in your face."
"He's trying to get into your head, Katelynn. Remember what I told you?"
"Oh you're pathetic. Thinking she'll believe you when she's known me for longer. To bad I'll have to finish you, you're such an entertainment to me." Ander snickered.
"No!" I yelled running in front of Ander.
Just as he was about to do something, the door behind him burst open knocking him down unconscious on y floor.
It the doorway was Nicholas all sweaty with some blood on his face.
"Come on, we need to leave right about now if possible. They're swarming everywhere."
"Right behind ya." Alex said.
They ran out and I picked up the ruby, following them.
I turned one last time looking at Ander on the ground gaining consciousness.
"Why'd it have to be you..." Then I ran out following them. It didn't seem like Ander, he wasn't like that and never was. There was something wrong with him.
