Season 1, Episode 4
Family Ties

——————

I walked towards the sirens, taking a turn that brought me to the parking lot. There was blood on the ground, surrounding the body of Mr. Tanner. I sighed, this has Damon written all over it. He was making too big of a scene, now the police were going to be more invested in finding the 'mountain lion' that was ballsy enough to wander into town.

As long as there weren't anyone in town that were knowledgeable about vampires we would be fine; but that wasn't the case. When I was last in Mystic Falls I had heard whisperings of the council, who had meetings to take precautions against any vampires in town. They were doing a bad job seeing as there were currently two in town, but it was the knowledge that they have that worries me. How much did they know? What kind of weapons did they have that could kill Stefan and Damon?

"Oh my God," I faintly heard, and I looked towards the source of the sound. On the other side of the parking lot was Bonnie, looking at the scene before us in horror. While she was friends with Elena, that didn't mean I had to be cruel to her. She was still a young girl in high school, this would probably traumatize her. It would be unbecoming of me to just leave her in this state.

With that in mind, I walked across the parking lot to reach her, making sure there was concern on my face. The last thing she needed to see was me storming over with a resting bitch face. "Hey," I started, resting a hand on her shoulder, "Are you okay?" She jumped a little, slowly backing away from me. "No, I'm not okay. I just watched my history teacher die." She slapped her hand over her mouth, like she wasn't supposed to say it, before turning and running towards the rest of town.

I took after her, she had become a liability in just a few seconds. There was no way that I could just let her leave after knowing she had seen Damon kill Tanner. So I chased after her, and while I was pregnant I did have super speed, so I caught up to her in a few moments. She was a cheerleader, they have amazing stamina. I ran in front of her, grabbing her by the legs and hoisting her over my shoulder. Turning in the direction of the boarding house, I began making my way there, taking my phone out of my pocket.

I called Stefan, he was the more rational of my mates right now, and waited for him to pick up. I stopped running once I got to the porch, setting bonnie down so I could take my keys out. I didn't let her get anywhere though, I held her shoulder in one hand and pushed my knee in between her legs so that she couldn't escape. Stefan picked up, his tone tight. "Hey, where are you? I have been dodging Elena since you left with Jeremy."

"Yeah, well maybe if Damon didn't kill Tanner in front of Bonnie I would still be there," I retorted, pushing the door open. I stepped inside, dragging Bonnie in with me; throwing the door close, I made sure to lock it. "Sit, and don't move," I directed at the girl before walking into the kitchen. The thing I loved about the house the most was that the doors obeyed whoever lived in the house. The original Zachary Salvatore had found a witch that spelled them that way, so Bonnie wasn't leaving this house unless I wanted her too. Unfortunately, it only works when we're awake.

I grabbed some instant lemonade from inside one of the cupboards, freshly squeezed was better but this would have to do. "You need to find Damon and get home, now. We need to know what to do with her." I added sugar to the pitcher, stirring it thoroughly. "She's a witch who hasn't tapped into her power yet, there's a chance you could compel her to forget about it." Compelling a witch who hasn't actually done magic has a 50/50 chance of working.

"Alright, I can see Damon right now. We'll be there soon," he said right before he hung up. I put the lemonade on the tray along with 4 glasses, taking it back to Bonnie. "You wanna drink?" I offered, setting the tray down on the table. Maybe I should've been a little more gentle about bringing her here, cause she looked downright terrified about me even being in her general vicinity. "I didn't poison it," I quipped, pouring myself a glass. I took a sip as I sat down on the couch right next to her.

"What are you going to do to me?" She whimpered out, and it made me feel like an asshole. I had just kidnapped this vulnerable teenage girl because she saw something she wasn't supposed to. Granted it was because I was protecting my family, but that didn't make me feel any better. "Well, that all depends on you." That didn't seem to soothe her, in fact it actually made her more nervous. "If you don't want me to tell anyone I won't. Just please, let me go."

Her voice was shaking, and all I wanted to do was swoop her up in a hug; but I couldn't, she was too scared of me to find comfort in it. The front door opened, and I was very grateful that the boys didn't take too long to get here. "Alright, let's get this party started," Damon announces tactlessly, going to head inside the foyer. "Nuh-uh. You know the rules, take those shoes off." I demanded, there was no way he was going to track blood and dirt into the house.

He sighed and did as I said, Stefan following in his footsteps before I could reprimand him as well. They sat on the couch opposite me and Bonnie, and the room was silent as we tried to figure out what to say to her. "So I heard that you saw me kill coach Tanner?" Damon asked casually, as if he didn't supply the girl with trauma worth a lifetime. "Yeah," Bonnie sniffled, curling in on herself. "Well, what if we told you there's a chance we could take this all away," Stefan spoke, trying a softer approach than Damon had.

"What are you talking about?" She asked, a few stray tears rolling down her face. "Well, people like Stefan and Damon have something called compulsion. It's like mind control with limitations." I took another sip of my lemonade, the cool drink sliding down my throat. "But what are you guys?" Bonnie questioned, and I instantly turned my eyes towards my mates. They could have the joy of telling Bonnie they're vampires, under no circumstances would anyone in Mystic Falls know that I'm a dragon. The most they would understand was that I was like the horrible portrayals of dragons they see in the media. They wouldn't even be close to understanding how dangerous I could be.

"Well, we're vampires." And with that, Damon started an hours long conversation.

——————

"Right there, baby," I muttered to Damon as he kissed my neck. It was hot and I was needy, and Damon was more than willing to provide me with what I needed. I moaned as he sucked on my skin, it would most likely leave a mark for everyone to see later. He pulled away, his cheeks flushed as he avoided looking at me. "Don't hide from me." I pulled his face so that he was facing me, his true face on display.

A plethora of veins underneath his eyes, which were purely black. I loved to see it, even when Damon didn't. "If you want to feed, you can feed; you don't have to restrain yourself around me." There wasn't anything I could change about it, anyways. He would always be a vampire, what good would it do me to make him try and deny it.

"Can I?" He asked me anyway, and all it took was a nod for him to resume with our previous activities. Licking and kissing, like an apology for what he was about to do next. Gently, he bit down, pressing his fangs into my neck slowly. It wasn't the most pleasurable thing to experience, but it was still very hot. A few sips was all he took before he withdrew his fangs from my neck, licking at the wound he had caused before pressing a kiss to it. "There we go," I uttered, holding his head against my neck after he had finished.

"How good do you look in a suit, Mr. Salvatore?" I jokingly asked him, leaning my head on top of his. "Oh, I look very good in a suit," he answered, tracing random shapes along my bare thigh. "Good, I want you to go ask Caroline to the founders party." His head jerked up, though he wasn't upset with what I said cause he had a smile on his face. "Great minds think alike, my sweet girl. I was already going to ask; one final day of utter perfection before I let her go."

I smiled, for a guy who acted like an ass he really did have a sweet spot for teenagers. "Are you sure, you really liked the time you were spending with her." It was clear on his face that he didn't want to make Caroline forget. "She's too attached. She would do anything I asked of her, and that's not usually a problem; but she's in high school. She needs a kiddie pool relationship, not whatever pseudo lover/brother thing we have going on."

I nodded, pressing a kiss into his hair, "Just be gentle, okay. You tend to forget that other people have feelings too." He hummed, letting his hands aimlessly trail my body. "I will," he said, before pulling me in for a kiss. I let myself melt into it, I hadn't had a lot of time with just Damon since school started; it was nice to be alone with him, even if only for a few moments.

DAMON

——————

"No yellow. Jaundice. Go for the blue," Damon critics as Caroline tries on dresses. The founder's party was tomorrow, and he was Caroline's date. "I don't like the blue," Caroline complained, holding the blue dress up to her body. "Well, how about I buy you a dress with the same cut as the yellow in a different color?"

"What would you know about fashion? All you wear is leather jackets and black shirts." She sassed, rifling through her closet for some other options. Ignoring her jab at his clothing choices, Damon spoke again, "Well, if I'm going to be your date you're going to look amazing."

Caroline turned around, "No, no, no. No way. You cannot be my date. My mother is going to be there, and she is a very proud gun owner; not to mention the Sheriff." Damon was not happy to hear this news, he did not spend almost all night covering up the last few deaths he had caused supplying Feiyan with hearts, just so that his date refused to take him. There was no way he wasn't going to go with Caroline.

He had promised not to compel people as much, but it wasn't like he was compelling her to sleep with him. He was just going to get her to take him to the party and then he would compel her to fall in love with someone her age.

He looked into her eyes, using his most convincing voice as he began to compel her, "I went through a lot of trouble to make sure this party wasn't cancelled. It's very important that I be there. Please take me, and let me buy you a new dress."

"You should come to the founder's party with me," Caroline complied, turning back to look through her jewelry. "But only if you buy me a new dress." Damon frowned as he glanced through her copy of twilight. "What's so special about this Bella girl? Edward's so whipped."

"You gotta read the books in order. It won't make sense if you don't." Caroline told him, walking to the small bookshelf she had. She pulled out the first edition in the series, handing it to Damon who began to read through it. "Ah, I miss Anne Rice. She was so on it."

"How come you don't sparkle?" Caroline asked, taking a seat next to Damon on the bed. "Because I live in the real world, where vampires burn in the sun." Damon snorted at the thought of sparkling in the sun. That was the most ridiculous thing anyone had assumed about vampires since the '80s. "Yeah, but you walk around in the sun and nothing happens to you."

"I have a ring. It protects me. Long story," Damon acknowledged, pressing a kiss to Caroline's neck. "You can be very sweet when you want to be," Caroline sighed, relaxing into his touch. "Yes, I can be sweet," Damon repeated, tracing his finger along her sides. He liked Caroline, it would be a shame to have to let her go so soon. But that was a thought for another day.

He gently bit into her neck, taking his time with the insertion of his fangs. He wanted Caroline to enjoy this as much as he did. Why cause her pain if she was giving him exactly what he wanted. As he drank her blood, she spoke. "Are you going to kill me?" She asked with a false sense of calmness that he'd compelled into her. "No, and that's why you're going to do something for me." Caroline looked at him, a questioning look on her face. "How good are you at getting this little nose where it doesn't belong?" He asked, tapping her nose with his finger. "Oh, I'm excellent," she replied, causing Damon to smirk. Everything was going to plan.

"I didn't know you were here," Zach says as he enters the room. I looked up from the math handout Stefan had only half completed, and the neat one Feiyan had left right next to it for him to copy. I could never understand how she was doing school while pregnant, especially with the random pains she got. "Just going through Stefan's homework. Boy, this country sure has dumbed down in the last hundred years. I don't know how Stefan was having trouble understanding the assignments."

I was a douchebag to Zach, but only because he was very vocal about his dislike of vampires. Insulting vampires to their face was just like asking for death, and I didn't have much patience for his opinions. "Why he wants to go to high school is beyond me. I mean, in the seventies, he went to an Ivy League. Harvard, I understood. Actually, no. I didn't get that either." Of course, the best way to annoy Zach was to talk to him like he wasn't there. Just rambling on and on about nothing when he clearly wants to talk about something gets him all riled up.

"Why are you here, Damon?" Zach asked, and I couldn't help but subtly roll my eyes. He knew exactly why, but his commitment to the idea that I'm a bad guy blinded him from seeing the obvious. "To spend time with my family, Zach. Feiyan is due in less than three months, we want to settle down and raise our children."

"I know you. You always have an underlying motive. You said you want to be here with your family, I don't believe that. So tell me, what is it this time?" Zach sneered, and I felt myself lose all patience I had for him. How dare he question me about why I'm here. I got up, speeding over to Zach and grabbed him by the throat. Holding him against the wall, I spoke. "You are in no position to question me." My voice was low, and Zach could hear the silent threat in my voice. "I didn't mean to upset you," he choked out, and I could feel his pulse rapidly beating underneath my fingers.

"This is not upset, Zach. This is irritation, okay. So I suggest that you be very careful about what you say and do around me, cause I am near the end of my tolerance with your attitude." I dropped him, turning to stalk out of the room. All Zach had to do was comply with my demands and I wouldn't kill him, I wasn't asking for much.

3RD PERSON

——————

"—Mean you're taking Damon to the founder's party? What about me?" Bonnie complained as she and Caroline sat at a table in the Grill, picking at a plate of fries and a burger. "You should just go with Elena," Caroline suggested, taking a sip of her milkshake. "She's hoping that Stefan is going to ask her," Bonnie rolled her eyes, Elena's love life was hopeless as long as she was fawning over a taken guy. "Mmm, but Stefan is taking Feiyan. Damon's been telling me all about how Stefan's been wanting to take Feiyan to see the display."

"I didn't know that Damon was talking to you about them," Bonnie said a bit cautiously, she didn't like the thought of Caroline dating this older man, especially now that she knew he was a vampire. "Yeah, I think he wants me to try and make friends with Feiyan. He gave me her phone number, but I've been too nervous to text her." Caroline dipped a chicken nugget in one honey mustard, taking a bite out of her comfort food.

"Why?" Bonnie asked, she had never seen Caroline be nervous in her life. "Because I was low key thirsting over her boyfriend when they got here, and she seems like the kind of girl to be possessive over him," Caroline sighed, she was all about first impression and the one she had made with Feiyan didn't scream 'let's be friends.'

"I'm sure she can't be that bad, just start out with an apology and go from there," Bonnie suggested, taking a bite from her burger. Caroline seemed to think about it for a little, before asking a question of her own. "What if I get Damon to help me with it?"

"Oh right, Damon," Bonnie interjected. "What does your mom think about this? Is she okay with you bringing Damon?" She asked, having a drink of her lemonade; it wasn't as good as Feiyan's. "And I'm supposed to care why? She probably won't even look up from admiring her badge long enough to notice."

"You should care because he's an older sexy danger guy. And in the case of your mom looking up from her badge long enough to notice you could get into a lot of trouble." Caroline ignored the latter half of that statement to hyper focus on something that didn't involve her mother. "Older sexy danger guy? Is that an official witch twitter tweet?" She teased, a smile on her face as she watched Bonnie get all shy.

"No more witch jokes, okay? That whole Mr. Tanner prediction thing has me freaked out." Now that she knew of her true heritage, she couldn't help but want everyone to forget that she had ever talked about witches. "Okay," Caroline complied, "And Damon's not dangerous. You know, he just shares a lot of issues with his brother. You know, like major, deep-rooted drama."

"Like...?" Bonnie prodded, she wanted to know every little thing that Stefan and Damon hadn't told her. Maybe she could figure out what Feiyan was, if she even was something others knew about. "I'm not really supposed to say anything." Caroline hesitated, Damon would be upset if he had told anyone, and he made it very clear that he didn't want Elena to hear about any of this.

"Caroline Forbes, when have you ever kept a secret in your life?" Bonnie asked, leaning forward in her seat as if it would make Caroline reveal all of her secrets. Caroline stared for a few seconds before she broke. "Okay. But you can't speak a word of this to anyone, and you especially can't tell Elena." She said, leaning forward and begging to whisper in Bonnie's ear. She would just have to try extra hard to convince Damon not to be mad at her if Bonnie told.

CAROLINE

——————

Damon held my hand as he took me outside to the lawn of the Lockwoods, he was so angry when I found him. There was no way he would stay with me now that Elena had seen the bite more on my neck. I should've just left her when she asked, now Damon was probably going to kill me. Tears ran down my cheeks at the thought, I didn't want to die. As soon as we came to a stop, I turned to face him. "Don't!" I started, trying to steady my voice as I explained what happened. "She took it off and I got flustered, okay?! I didn't know what to say. But I swear, okay? I did not tell her. I just told her that you didn't mean to hurt me."

Of course I didn't tell, he had asked me not to. I would do anything he asked in a heartbeat. He made me feel warm, and special, and Elena just had to ruin it, and now I was going to die.

"You make me crazy, you know that? It's okay. I forgive you." He said, wrapping his arms around my waist from behind me. His words made me sob, of course he was understanding. He had always been gentle and kind, not once had he demanded something of me. But there was still an underlying feeling of terror, of pure fear in the back of my brain that said I had to convince him to keep me alive. "I swear I didn't say—"

"Shh, shh, shh," he cut me off, running one of his hands up and down my front. "It's okay. Unfortunately...I have to let you go now." Panic arose inside me, this was probably worse than him killing me. I didn't want him to let me go, I wanted him to stay forever. He brushed my hair, made me breakfast in the mornings, helped me choose my outfits, put up with my lack of tact and even decorated with me. No other guy had done that for me before, and all he asked for in return was a bit of blood. And now the most perfect relationship in my life was going down the drain because Elena was nosy.

"Why? I did everything you asked," I cried, and he spun me around so my front was facing him. "It was nothing you did sweetheart," he soothed, stroking his hand through my hair. "I have been using you, Caroline. You deserve someone your age, who will do all the things you like without asking for something in exchange." I choked back a sob, all I wanted was for him sto stay with me. "But you do all the things I like, and you buy me nice things. You make me feel all warm and cuddly inside, and I don't want you to go away."

"Shhh, look into my eyes." I did as he said, his baby blues piercing my vision. "You, Miss Caroline Forbes, had a great time at the party. Everything was perfect until your boyfriend broke up with you. He was super kind and sweet about it, and even though you feel heartbroken you told yourself you would let yourself have a great life. And when I say, you're going to feel drowsy for a few moments, and you will forget how intensely you feel for me. You're going to fall deeply in love with someone way better than me, and it's going to be a love that consumes and fills you with love. Now, I want you to forget."

Nothing happened. Like a clock that never struck 12:00, nothing of what he said happened. Everything was still here, my mind as clear as it was just a few moments ago. "Why didn't it work?" He muttered, searching in my eyes for something. "Shit," he whispered, coming to some kind of realization. "Looks like you're going to be spending some time with me, Stefan, and Feiyan," He said, before picking me up and running away.
