Kageyama couldn't be happier. Ever since he started dating the boy that he loves with his whole heart, he was over the moon. He's been smiling more than usual and talking more over the past months. Although they weren't ready to tell the team yet about their relationship, that doesn't stop them from showing affection whenever they could. The team may or may not know about their "secret" relationship but decided to keep it to themselves. Both boys are way too obvious. They have been dating for 6 months. This is a good sign that their relationship is still going strong right? Nothing could go wrong. Well that's what Kageyama thought.

One day when Kageyama was looking for Hinata during lunchtime, he accidentally walked in to both Hinata and Yamaguchi kissing in the classroom. Kageyama was shocked. He didn't know what to do but instead he ran to the rooftop crying there silently leaving Hinata and Yamaguchi unknowing about his presence just now.
I kept quiet so I could keep you
Kageyama kinda thought that Hinata likes Yamaguchi after a month they started dating but he just brushes those thoughts away. Of course he doesn't want to think that Hinata would be cheating on him or anything. He doesn't want to think badly about his boyfriend. He doesn't want Hinata to think that there is no trust in this relationship. He doesn't want to ruin the relationship they have. However, he never fails to notice the way Hinata would light up when he talks about Yamaguchi or when he would cancel their dates just to hang out with him. Still he ignores it because he wants to trust his boyfriend.
But ever since that kissing incident, Kageyama now knows that whatever he was thinking before was right. He doesn't want to believe it but he has to. He has to accept the fact that Hinata does not love him anymore. However for Hinata, he still acts as he usually is but he's gotten closer to Yamaguchi. Kageyama just accepts it. He kept his mouth shut. He doesn't say anything to Hinata nor to Yamaguchi. He doesn't want to lose Hinata. He doesn't want to lose the first person he fell in love with, the first person he trusted. So he kept quiet.

It's been a week since he caught Hinata and Yamaguchi kissing and he couldn't hide it anymore. He is gonna break up with Hinata.
"Uhm Hinata..c-can we talk?" Kageyama says nervously.
"Sure Kags, what's wrong?" Hinata smiles at Kageyama. Looking at him innocently. Gosh his pretty brown eyes, how could Kageyama resist them? But no he can't fall for them again. He does not want to keep hurting.
"We need to break up."
"W-what? Why!?" Hinata looked at Kageyama in disbelief. He couldn't believe Kageyama was saying those words.
"I'm sorry but I don't think our relationship is going to work anymore. I can't continue this. I'm so sorry Hinata. I hope we can still be friends." Kageyama held back his tears, not wanting to break down in front of Hinata. He decided not to tell Hinata about the kissing incident. He does not want Hinata to feel guilty.
"I-uhm okay I guess. I need to go home. Bye Kageyama." With that Hinata stands up and walks out of the house leaving a broken boy behind. Kageyama knew that he was not going home but instead he was going to a certain boy's house.

Since the day they broke up, Hinata continues to ignore Kageyama during practices. The team noticed the tension between them but decided not to interfere. Hinata would ask Suga to toss for him or he would practice with Noya and Tanaka or Yamaguchi. They never eat together during lunch anymore, they never walk home together after school. He's always with Yamaguchi and that proves that Kageyama was right all this time. Yes, Kageyama was the one who broke up with him but he still wants his best friend back. But he knows that Hinata would be happier with Yamaguchi. He knows that Yamaguchi would treat Hinata better.

Exactly two weeks after their breakup, Hinata and Yamaguchi announced that they were dating to the team. Of course everyone was shocked at first because they were expecting a different couple but brushes that off thinking it was just a misunderstanding. They went to congratulate the couple, not noticing Kageyama who was hurt deep down.
After an hour of practice, Kageyama excuses himself from practice saying he wasn't feeling well and went home. He couldn't bare being in the same room with them any longer. As soon as he closes his bedroom door, he sunk down the floor crying his eyes out. He couldn't believe that Hinata would be dating Yamaguchi that quickly. Even though he expected it, it still hurts.

Hinata and Yamaguchi were inseparable. Hinata still ignores Kageyama. He just does not understand why. Hinata was the one who kissed another person while they were still in a relationship, Hinata was the one who moved on too fast but why is Hinata the one giving him the cold shoulder. Kageyama just ignores it. He doesn't want to fight with Hinata.
Kageyama watches as Hinata fondly smiles at the boy sitting beside him. Watching Hinata laugh and smile at the boy's jokes or blushes whenever he whispers to Hinata's ears. It hurts. If only he had realized the signs before it was too late. He should have realized the way Hinata was acting, the way he rarely hangs out anymore or even go on dates. The way Hinata changes his mood when he talks to that person. But he was blind. If only Hinata was honest with him instead of playing around with his heart for months. He should have known that Hinata fell out of love. He knows that Hinata deserves someone better. And that person is Yamaguchi Tadashi.

Whenever Kageyama asks Hinata about Yamaguchi (before their breakup) he would always say that he doesn't think of Yamaguchi more than a friend and he would get mad if Kageyama asks that question.
"Look how many times I have to tell you that there is nothing going on with me and Yamaguchi! We are just friends okay! Why are you like this? Can't I have friends? Are you controlling who I can and can't be friends with!?"
"N-no it's not like that..i'm sorry but-"
"Kags please believe me, there is nothing special going on between me and Yamaguchi. I love you and only you, okay." Hinata cups Kageyama's face and kisses his forehead.
"Okay I believe you. I'm sorry for bringing that up."
Kageyama knew that Hinata was not telling the truth but he did not question further. Kageyama knew their actual relationship status, he is not that dumb. After all, friends don't look at friends that way.

He lays in tears in bed all night, crying till he couldn't cry no more thinking what went wrong with their relationship. Was he not good enough? Did he treat Hinata badly? Was it because he was bad at showing affection? He couldn't sleep most nights, millions of thoughts running through his mind. He tried, he really did try to be the best but maybe it wasn't enough.
He couldn't possibly forget Hinata that easily, Hinata was his first love, first kiss, first everything. He gave him everything he could and yet this happened. Hinata meant so much to him and him knowing that it was a one-sided relationship all this time hurts so much.

All of those were lies. Every single word Hinata said to him were lies. He trusted him, every single
pretty lie he told and that did not matter at all.

It's been years since the breakup, the first years have graduated and have gone their separate ways. Hinata and Kageyama are still friends eventho they are not as close as before but that is good enough. Hinata and Yamaguchi are still together, their relationship is still going strong. Kageyama is glad that Hinata is happier with someone else, someone who will never let him down, who will always treat him right. He never regretted breaking up with him yet he was thankful for the relationship they had. Both of them had moved on but is Kageyama happy?
It's no lie that he still loves Hinata but right now he found love in someone else. Kageyama is already in love with someone else and that person is the most amazing person he have ever known. A person who nobody would ever expect to be dating Kageyama, that person stole his heart and made him fall in love over and over again. The person taught Kageyama how to love again, how to trust again and he was never let down. That person promises to be with him at all times no matter how tough things get, that person promises to shower him with all the love and affection, that person promises that there would be no lies between them, that person promises to never leave his side and that person never betrayed those promises.
What happened before left a bad scar on Kageyama, it hurt but he learnt to move on and leave the past behind. And yes, Kageyama is the happiest he's ever been. He's happy being in a relationship with the person he truly adores, the person who he fell in love with.
