Leilani

"Here's your receipt." the cashier said handing it to Leilani.

"Thanks." Leilani said. She grabbed her item and receipt and left the gas station.

She threw her stuff in the car and pumped her gas. She looked around her surroundings.

Tyrell had his ways of finding her. It was weird sometimes, but she grew use to it since he's been doing it since their high school days.

But now...it was scary to her. She didn't want to be found unless she went back to get the rest of her belongings.

She put the gas pump back in its place, and got in her car. Leilani took the car charger out the box and put it in the plug.

Leilani pulled her charger out her purse and connected it to her phone and the car charger.

The apple logo on her phone popped on. She pulled out of the gas station and onto the road.

Her phone started ringing. She picked it up looking at Tyrell's name on her screen. She went to his contact and blocked him.

Leilani was sweating a little from nervousness. Tyrell has been her only boyfriend, so she never experienced anything like this.

She didn't know why Tyrell was so crazy over her all of a sudden.

Leilani drove near her college and parked across the street. She went to Safari to find a cheap motel room or anything.

30 minutes later, after searching, and calling...she found absolutely nothing.

Every motel she called were either booked, creepy, or the person on the phone was rude to her.

Leilani sighed. She didn't want to sleep in her car even though she could just go to her parents house, but she needed to stay in the city incase Amir was ready to do their project.

She didn't pack any extra blankets so she decided to swing by the dollar store.

After she arrived to the store, she backed her car into the parking spot. Just incase she had to speed out of there.

She got out and grabbed a cart. As she looked around, she noticed how long she haven't been in here.

"They moved shit around..can't find nothing." she mumbled to herself.

She finally found the things she was looking for. She grabbed a grey fuzzy throw blanket, some snacks, and pain medicine for her headache.

The cashier looked at her before ringing her stuff up.

"65.21." the cashier said as she kept looking at Leilani.

Leilani handed her a card ready to get out of the store.

"Aren't you Tyrell Lee's girlfriend? You're so pretty." she smiled at Leilani.

"Thanks. And no..I'm not.." Leilani said getting her card back. She put the rest of her stuff in her cart and hurried out of there.

"Your receipt..." the cashier said frowning.

"Keep it." Leilani said exiting the store.

She put all of her stuff in the backseat and pushed the cart to the side out of drivers way.

She got in the car not realizing she left her phone in it. She was surprised to see it was still charging, and was now on %56.

"Damn this charge fast."

Her phone vibrated in her hands. Amir name and picture popped up.

"Hello?" she answered.

"Wassup? Tryna go to Walmart or some shit to find the stuff we need tomorrow?" Amir asked.

Leilani laughed at herself. "Yeah. That's fine."

"Ight cool. You want me to pick you up? You gonna be at yo house?"

"No...I'm actually not going to be there for a while, but I can meet you there." Leilani said.

Amir hummed. "Ight then. Everything alright?"

"Yeah I'm good Amir. I'll tell you tomorrow maybe."

"Ight. Be safe and whatnot." Amir said as the background got noisy. "I gotta go tho..some just came up."

"Ok. See you tomorrow." Leilani said as they hung up.

Leilani backed up and drove to someplace quiet, but around people.

Her city wasn't as safe as people thought, so she still had to be cautious on what side of the city she went to at night.

"This shit sucks." Leilani said to herself. She lifted her shirt up looking at her somewhat pudgy stomach. The pudge wasn't from the pregnancy, she's been like that since she graduated high school.

"What should I do?" she asked herself.

She honestly was lost, and had no idea what to do. Leilani looked at her phone thinking about Lisa, her mom.

She picked her phone up and dialed her mom's number. The ringing made her nervous, but she was grown, so she dealt with it.

"Hello?" Lisa answered the phone. "Lani?"

"Hey...I have a question.." Leilani trailed off.

Lisa frowned. "Ok hold on."

The line got quiet before the FaceTime option popped up.

Leilani mentally groaned but answered anyways.

"Ok. What's the question?" Lisa asked.

Leilani held the phone up towards the car roof. "If..you got pregnant by someone who had no respect for you, and always played victim, what would you do?"

Lisa looked at the screen. "That sure is a specific question, Lani."

"Can you...please answer it."

"Hm...well I honestly don't know baby. It really depends—"

Leilani scrunched her face up. "Depend on what?"

"Your mental, your health, and a peace of mind. Like...am I mentally prepared to take care of a infant for the next 18-25 years by a man I no longer love because he doesn't respect me?"

Leilani stayed quiet listening to her mother talk. "Even though my child might not turn out like its father, and do better, but then again...I don't think I would want to bring the child into this world without a two parent household...but in a safe and comfortable space for her or him to grow up in."

Lisa sighed. "And are you ready to give your child talks like this...it really takes a lot, but maybe..just maybe when you hold the child for the first time...none of that even matters. I would protect and love that child no matter what or who it's father is."

Leilani sniffed. She wiped her eyes. She didn't even know she was crying.

Her mom always knew what to say even when she didn't know exactly what she was going to say.

"Thanks.." Leilani spoke up.

"What's wrong? You're crying...what happened?" Lisa asked. It was rare to see Leilani crying.

"I broke up with Ty.."

Lisa gasped a little. She didn't see that coming. "What? Y'all were good the other day."

Leilani laughed a little. "No we weren't. We were arguing all that day, but the arguments wasn't why I ended things with him."

Lisa sighed. "Was he treating you wrong?"

"...yeah...something like that."

"And are you pregnant by him? Is that why you asked me that?" Lisa asked already knowing the answer.

"Yes." Leilani said ashamed of herself.

They stayed silent on the phone for a few seconds. Lisa was trying to gather her words since she didn't want to cause Leilani any more problems.

"Do Tyrell know?" was the first thing Lisa asked after a minute or so.

Leilani sat her phone straight up on her steering wheel. "No, he doesn't...I was going to tell him...soon, but I wanted to make a decision."

"Lani you should tell him. Very soon before he finds out. Where are now?"

"I'm still near my school. I'm planning on sleeping in my car until I go back for the rest of my things.."

Lisa sighed looking at Leilani through the screen. Her hair was slightly a mess, and her eyes were glossy with tears.

"I can book you a hotel. Sleeping out there is dangerous." Lisa said grabbing her computer to find her daughter a nice hotel room for at least 5 days since her Christmas break was coming up soon.

"Ok.." Leilani said.

They both sat there on the phone until Lisa found a hotel room. After they hung up, Leilani put in the directions to the hotel. Surprisingly it wasn't too far from the school, almost 25 minutes.

She had help from the hotel staff to carry her suitcase and her bags from the store.

Leilani thanked the two guys before closing her door.

She checked the time realizing it was getting late. "I haven't eaten in a while." she mumbled.

Her hotel room was almost made like an apartment. Leilani sprayed everything down with disinfectant spray, and air freshener. She fixed herself something to eat, showered, then laid down for the rest of the day.

Her story was only beginning.
