I walked up the steps and pushed open the door at the top, thank god this wasn't the actual studio, it was just a bunch of meeting rooms, the studio was up the road, if the paparazzi saw me going into the music studio I would be screwed.
Emily had sent me a text and said that they were in room 3, I walked down the hall and pushed open the glass door and everyone's head looked over at me. No one was sitting down yet and they were all standing up casually chatting. It was a large room with a wall of windows with a good view of the city and white walls with music CDS in frames hanging on the walls, and a long glass table going down the middle of the room with about twenty five seats around it. There's only about twelve people in the room and I recognised all the faces straight away. I made my way around the room and embraced everyone as it's been years since I've seen most of them.
"We'll start then shall we?" Emily said to the room and everyone sat down, I went to sit down but Emily hastily guided me to the seat at the top of the table.
"So we all know why we're here, Kadie wants to release some music and in full Kadie K style she decided that she wants to yesterday and wants to preform for the first time in years in eight days" Emily said smiling over at me
"She wants it preform at the charity festival 'fall' its going to be one of the biggest concerts of the year, singers and bands from all over the world are coming to raise money, Ive managed to get her in and that's why mr John Bennet is here today, he's the head of the festival and has agreed to speak to Kadie so I'll pass you over to him now" she said motioning to a man two people down from her, he was wearing a simple suit and had his hair gelled back, he had a slight beard and kind eyes, and overall looked like a really nice guy.
"Yeah, so I'm the head organiser for fall and over the past few hours I've managed to fit Kadie into our preforming schedule and she will be the last act of the night" he said and several people were taking down what he said, which made me feel like I needed to do something but instead I sat there and listened to him.
"Emily requested that I try to keep this as low profile as possible, so only myself and three others know that it will be you Kadie preforming, I've listed you on the timetable as surprise act, the act list will be published tomorrow and you'll be on there of course. So the stage will be set up like this" he said a little remote control appearing in his hand and he clicked a button and suddenly a picture was projected onto the wall at the other end of the table. It was a 3D model of the stage
"So it's going to be one huge stage, and a catwalk straight down through the crowd, which will be above the audience by two meters, so around were there heads stop is where the top of the stage will be. There's also some large steps in the middle of the main stage at the back, and some side doors on the side of it, there's also a rising trap door, so multiple ways for you to enter however you want to do that" he said and I smiled and nodded along. I then took out my camera and filmed of the room and table and the projection for the video, before brining my attention back to John
"Since your the last act of the night, you have as much time as you want, but we recommend to keep it under thirty minutes. You and your team will have a plot of land out the back of the stage to do whatever you want with it, you can use one of our gazebos or trailers or prefabs whatever you want we will provide it for you. So I think that's basically it, any questions?" He asked me
"Emm, what time will I be going on stage at?" I asked
"Your scheduled for around eleven but that will most likely differ as I'm sure you aware at festival, other acts may decided not to sing a song last minute and may finish early, an act many have a wardrobe malfunction and be late to the stage, there's a relm of possibilities" he said. He then talked quickly about the technical stuff, like how many lights there will be, how loud the music will be and thing like that.
"Oh one more question" I said, it suddenly coming to me
"Yes?" He said politely
"How many people will be there?" I asked
"Approximately around 145,000, but it may differ throughout the night as people go off to the bathroom or to get drinks and food or if their arriving late, but the last act of the night always without doubt gets the biggest crowd as it's the last act. And there's also an estimated seven million people watching online"
"Excuse me did you just say seven million?" I asked shocked
"I did" he said smiling at my reaction
"Oh my god" I said, looking from him to Emily with a hand over my mouth
"Seven million and One hundred and fourth five thousand people?" I said trying to hold back my nervous laughter "that's a lot of people"
"Kadie you've preformed in front of 112 million people during the super bowl" Emily said, waving it off
"But that was at the height of my career. I mean I haven't preformed in five years" I said breathlessly.
We talked with John for a little while longer before he left, we all thanked him and I hugged him before he left.
"Ok the next thing is what are you going to be wearing?" A woman, wearing a suit and a pencil skirt, and had short black hair asked
We spent the next hour and a half talking about it, about what I would sing, backup dancers, what I would wear (something I had already drawn out twenty sketches for) and then we moved onto the actual music release
"Ok so any name ideas?" Emily asked, moving onto the actual music album
"So I was thinking" i said, sitting up straight as I was slunched in my chair before hand.
"So the actual album cover could be this" I said taking out my phone and holding up a picture I had taken of a Luis a couple of weeks ago.
"And the name could be called 'starting over' or it could be called 'so' which is short for staring over, and you see where the number of the train usually is, we could replace that with so?" I said looking around the room for their thoughts. No one said anything for a seconds then a man said
"That's actually brilliant"
"I really like this Kadie" Emily said. We spent the next hour on the album cover, I sent the picture of the luis I took to the woman beside me who's an editor and she starting editing it until I thought it was perfect. And we settled on the name so, short for staring over
Then when I was completely happy with the name and album cover, we moved on
"So Kadie any ideas of when you want to release your album and how many songs?" Emily asked. I scrunched up my face and closed my eyes, knowing that she was about to kill me
"I have an idea but you'll probably kill me" I muttered
"What is it Kadie?" Emily asked, knowing me all too well
"Well I had an idea" I said slowly "it's nearly December and you know how you usually do advent calendars during the days leading up to Christmas?"
"Yeah?" Emily said slowly
"Well I was rambling to my story a little while ago about how kylie wasn't making one this year and how I should make one and I had an idea yesterday that what if I make a song advent calendar? Like I release a song every day leading up to Christmas?" I said, keeping my eyes closed. I heard come light laughter coming from two or three people around the table
"So you saying that you want to write twenty five songs...... in twenty five days?" Emily said slowly
"Yep"
"I think it's actually a cool idea" a woman named Maria said from down the line, and a few people nodded in agreement
"I mean, people would be happy to listen to it either way, and an artist did it once a while ago only they released three songs once a week for four weeks and he did insanely well, people enjoyed waking up and looking forward to later on in the day because of the song coming out later" Maria said
"Yeah, that's what tv shows do, it gives people something to look forward to" said another guy
"Well then" Emily said picking up her pen
"So twenty five songs? One every day....and release them in twenty five days?" She said slowly, taking deep breaths, I could tell she was trying not to panic. "Any ideas for song names? I presume you have most of these already written" Just because I haven't released music in six years and I haven't preformed in five, doesn't mean that I haven't been writing. Over the past few years I've gone through three notebooks, writing I'd say nearly one hundred songs, but I've always done that, over the years writing loads of songs as they come to me and only releasing a small percentage of them.
I could just me sitting at the table eating breakfast when I few words or a jingle of a song comes to me and I run to write it down before I forget it or run to a piano and play the few notes that came to me.
"Yeah, I'd say I have them all written but it's just a matter of narrowing it down to twenty five" I then took my bag up from the floor and took out four beaten up notebooks. These notebooks have been all over the world with me so they definitely don't look new. And the writing inside is also very messy as I would scribble something down and then cross out half of it later on thinking of a better line.
The next two hours went by really quickly, a lot of people had left and it was just me, Emily, Thomas, who is a really close friend as he's been my music producer for my whole career, Sarah, Callum and Laura, who are part of Thomas's team. It went by really quickly and we all got really comfortable, I had taken off my shoes and jacket and rolled up my sleeves and I'm currently lying on the table as I search my brain for inspiration. Callum, Sarah and Thomas were all sitting at the table with their legs up as they talk about PR ideas that match the album theme which we decided is going to be street photography and starting over, hence the name, and Laura had fallen asleep lying beside me and Emily was typing away on her computer.
The table was covered with a mix of my notebooks, computers, loses pages, other notebooks, pens and who knows what else, we've been in this room for over four hours and we were all going a little insane. I would also take out my camera and film moments even if they wouldn't go into the video it would still be nice for me to have.
Usually I don't leave my song books lying around, never mind open, mainly because one time I did and someone stole a page out of it and sold it to Taylor swift and it became a big hit. But me and Taylor are still good friends as she had no idea it was stolen or mine and she gave me fifty percent ownership of the song. But I've known everyone in this room for 10+ years and trust them all with my life.
I would close my eyes and started banging my hand against the table, and humming some words as they came to me, coming up with a melody. Every so often I would sit up and scribbling down something into my copy and then lie back down and put my head onto the mountain of paper I had constructed as my pillow.
After another half hour of talking, joking and laughing. We all decided to head down to the studio as we were all getting pretty uncomfortable in this room. Emily who was looking like she was about to snap any second went home to go to bed.
We gathered all the papers and notebooks before exiting the room
"Ok so we have nine out of twenty five songs titled" Thomas said as we walked side by side down the steps. Thomas is an old friend and he's one of my favourite people. He's so energetic and happy and fun, he also recently got engaged to a guy named Jason. Their wedding is in the summer and he's very excited.
"Naming nine songs out of twenty five songs in almost three hours, pretty good" I said before we looked at eachother and burst out laughing.
Everyone got into their separate cars to drive five minutes down the road to the studio. I decided to go to Dairy Queen to get ice cream.
So I took everyone's orders before driving away.
While in the car I propped my phone on the dashboard and decided to go live on Instagram.
"Hi" I said as people started to join and pretty soon there was over sixty thousand people.
"Jeez how many of you are there? It's three am?" I said laughing, I then started reading some of the comments, "yeah this is my first time going live in months, you weirdoes who aren't asleep at three am are very lucky" I said winking at the camera before bursting out laughing.
"what am I doing up? I had a meeting" I said, but then laughed as I heard it out loud and how ridiculous it sounded
"It's three thirty am and I had a meeting, it was about writing for a movie, so basically me and a few others just sat in a room and wrote for a few hours, cant tell you what movie though"
"Mhm, I'm going to Derry queen because I'm craving ice cream and I starving!" I kept my eyes mainly on the road, but it was completely empty so I can glance over at the screen.
"Oh my god Anthony's here" I gasped as I spotted his comment 'bitch, where the f are you?' And 'add me! I'm bored' I then pulled over on the side of the road and tried to add Anthony, and it worked
"Wait it's loading, loading" I said as a loading icon appeared on the bottom half of the screen, then Anthony's face popped up
"Yay!" I then put the car back into gear and got back onto the road, my bracelets jingling as I moved my hand
"Yo Kadie where the hell are you!" Anthony said
"I was literally on the phone to you all not even an hour and a half ago"
"Oh, but your in a car now"
"Your going home?"
"No I'm going to Derry queen"
"Get me something"
"I can't, I'm going somewhere else after this, but if it's still open I'll stop on the way home, are you like staying the night?"
"No Kadie, I'm just casually here at nearly four am, yes of course I'm staying the night, but me and Chris are gonna have to sleep on the floor, you've got shit here"
"Chris is staying as well? Why?"
"Well Sebastians certainly not going to go to sleep until your back and it would be pretty lonely for him to wait up by himself " he said which made my heart flutter
"Awww, so what are you guys doing now?"
"Well We've been unpacking your shit for the past few hours, you have a lot of stuff by the way"
"Why don't you sit down and watch a movie or something?"
"Well Kadie, to sit down we need a couch and to watch a movie we need a tv and to set it up. Both of which are in boxes somewhere"
"What about the theater, the projectors working isn't it?"
"And where are we supposed to sit? On the roof or?" Anthony said raising his eyebrows, making his eyes go big which made me laugh at how silly he looks when he tried to be serious
"Ehh on the floor?"
"What a great idea, but oh wait, there's about a million boxes in that room, that's were all the spare boxes are currently?"
"Oh, ok, Anthony do you know where any twenty four hours dairy queens are? I was on my way to one but it's closed" I said as I reversed out of the car park of the closed Dairy Queen.
"Emmm, I think there's a 24 hour one on sixth"
"Sixth? Ok" I said, pulling out and pressing down the gas as I speed of towards sixth
We spent another ten minutes laughing, and answering questions on Instagram live before I finally pulled into the drive thru.
"What do you guys recommend?" I asked my live as I stoped at the menu screens since there was no one in sight
"Get the blizzard" Anthony shouted,
"Obviously" I laughed, I finished looking at the menu before pulling up to the ordering box thing.
"Hi" I said cheerily as I stopped the car
"Hi, what can u get started for you?" A woman's voice said cheerily, I have no idea how she's so cheery at 3:45 am,
"Eh, ok so my friends would like 2 Oreo blizzards and 2 m&m blizzards please. And I'd like a large Oreo blizzard and a uhh, eh what meal would you recommend?" I said laughing as I had no idea what to get meal wise
"I think the chicken strips are pretty good" she said
"Yeah, I'll get that thank you"
"What size drink?"
"Ay yo Kadie how many surfaces of this house have you and Sebastian done it on?" Anthony said casually from my phone. I snapped my head around towards the camera, almost snapping my neck at how fast I wiped it around.
"Anthony!" I squealed
"What?" He said like it was the most casual thing in the world "it's a genuine question"
"Anthony were on Instagram live!"
"It's a genuine question! Like I'd say most of the furniture"
"Oh my god Anthony I'm kicking you!" I said, picking up the phone and trying to remove his as quick as possible
"But like it's gotta be most of them right?" Was the last thing he said before I kicked him off.
"Yeah, I'll-" I started but I couldn't keep a straight face and started laughing as I let my head fall onto the steering wheel,
"Y'all I'm actually gonna die" I said after a minute, regaining my composure
"Oh god, sorry" I said realising that I was still ordering my food.
"Can I get a large sprite" I said, as I could drink it for the rest of the night
"Perfect" she said "just move onto the next window" I thanked her before moving on.
I was looking through the comments as I waited for them to open the window, I then payed and got my food and ice cream. I then decided to park in the parking lot to start eating my ice cream and food.
I was looking at the comments talking and answering until I saw Kim comment
"Kadie! Call me now!"
"For gods sake" I said rolling my eyes, as I grabbed my phone
"Ok I'm going to have to go, see ya later guys" I said before ending the Instagram live and two seconds later Kim was face timing me
"Kadie where are you?" She said as soon as I answered
"You were literally just on my live, I'm outside a Dairy Queen"
"Ok, but like what meeting were you actually just at, because I know it's not a scripting one"
"It's just a music one"
"Can you film?" She asked the question I new was coming up.
Unlike Kendall and Kylie I have to film for keeping up with the kardashians, because my second name is Kardashian, recently we've been fighting about it a lot because I don't want to film every aspect of my life, and then Kim is complaining that I don't film enough, even though I do. But then she says that her and Khloe and Kourtney have to take up my hours for filming.
"Kim seriously?!"
"Kadie you haven't filmed at all this week"
"Kim it's almost four am, there's no way I'm going to wake the crew up at this time"
"Their all here with me and Khloe now, and they all have no problem to go over"
"Khloe's there?"
"Yeah, here give her to me" Khloe's voice said and then Khloe appeared on the screen
"Kadie you seriously need to pick up your slack" Khloe said
"But Khloe this is something to do with music, this is my private life"
"Kadie everything in your fucking life now a days is your private life, like the viewers know nothing about you"
"And that should be ok! I shouldn't feel forced to share my life online"
"That's your fucking job Kadie" Khloe said,
I shook my head in annoyance, this was absolutely bs
"Like your part of this show, the show is us sharing our lives online, every time we try to set a date for the crew to go with you for a single day or like two hours even, you say your busy"
"What am I supposed to do? Bring them to set and get fucking fired from my job? Like Khloe honestly no way in hell am I letting a camera crew come to the studio, like I'm sorry but no"
"Their coming anyway" Kim said
"Khloe if anyone other than my team shows up at the studio I will not hesitate to kick them out, I'm serious, don't get involved with my music" I said and then they hung up, so I started driving back to the studio with my car full of ice cream
"Hey guys!" I said pushing open the glass door that lead to the studio.
I actually built this studio years ago, it's now a rentable studio, but I still can use it whenever I want. There are loads of rooms but two main room.
The first one is where all the equipment is, it's a big spacious room with couches that can turn into beds for any late nights, the walls are all painted a dark indago and there's colourful LED lights shinning everywhere, the celling is also painted back to make to room feel even more spacious. There's also a mini kitchen, mini bar, drinks fridge and an actual fridge. There's also countless vinal records to play on the record machine. The other wall has all the equipment on it to produce the music, there's also a huge window that looks into the actual recording studio.
That one has the same colour walls just made out of soundproofing stuff, they look the same just with different stuff. It's also a huge room but not as big as the main one, it has every instrument you could think of. Guitar, electric guitar, two sets of drums, piano, key board, trumpet and loads more that I don't even know the name off. And off course there's a recording mic.
"Here you go!" I said dropping down the ice cream on the table. They all yelled words of appreciation as they took them
"Ok, so we need to come narrow down the songs that will go on the album, so far we have nine" Thomas said as he started drawing on the huge whiteboard that was on the wall.
He dotted down numbers one through twenty five, and wrote down the nine names we already have.
We spent the next half hour going through my song books and putting forward song suggestions. I would go into the recording studio part and sing a bit of the song, Thomas would record it and we'd basically give it a percentage of how much we think it should go on the album.
We were all sat around on the couches, talking about a song called 'love story' when we heard the buzzer go off, signalling that someone was at the door without a key card, looking to get in........
