Chapter One

Announcement

There were only noises inside the classroom coming from these classmates of mine. They are clearly having so much fun without the presence of our professor and class president to hush them. Of Course, those classmates are also my friends who were talking, shouting as if they were meters apart from one another when they were seated side by side...

"Keep it down!" Jungwon asked our other classmates in a calm voice enough for everyone to hear. The buzzing stopped for a couple of minutes. Still, it didn't last long when everyone started their chitchats again.

I rolled my eyes internally, forced to withstand their loud noises when they didn't listen to him.

"Let's go to the arcade later after class!" Won started again clearly annoyed as his eyebrows furrowed making his cat eyes look sharp. He flipped his notes and book close. He seemed to give up studying.

We were both trying to study till we lost the will because of buzzing sounds around us, not only coming from some bees but mouths surrounding us.

I sighed as I leaned at the backrest of my chair. My eyes remained on my notes as I still tries doing my homework. "Why do you want to go to an arcade instead of the library when we couldn't even finish this one," I asked him about this math problem that was given to us as an assignment.

Numbers hates both of us, reason, no matter how hard we try to understand them it just doesn't work. Solving them in this ambiance makes it two times more complicated. How could we possibly compute in our mind when it's so loud like this.

"We finished our assignment in English, though. Let's reward ourselves," he said convincing not only me but himself too that he deserves to play at the arcade place.

I rolled my eyes at him even though there was a subtle smile on my lips. Sometimes he's unbelievable. "You're such a fan of 'enjoy now and suffer later' saying. We need to submit this tomorrow," I mocked as I reminded him at the same time. "Let's finish this both unless you don't want to play later," I said firmly, didn't swerve one bit to his idea of rewarding. How could I when our rank isn't even stable now?

He rolled his eyes at me without trying to hide it and made a face before opening his math book again. He roamed his eyes around then said, "Can you guys keep it down!" in a shout. Obviously, losing his temper when he couldn't stand it anymore made the whole room quiet as cold air took over the place.

He was quite scary when he was mad and losses his shits. Right, He was the vice president who's good at everything except math. The one who takes over when both people I mentioned a while ago don't exist.

I couldn't help but let out a grin when I could do my assignment quietly and peacefully, even though not entirely, as their still a subtle buzz around. I fixed my glasses and wrote my answer in my note.

"Ms. Eui is here!" After seeing them in the corridor, Kyu announced. He was seated beside the window near the door so that the only place he could see them from was his seat.

Everyone went back to their seat rashly, behaving well and opening some books to say they were studying and a good student.

"These pretentious kids." I couldn't help but say it at the back of my mind.

I have nothing against them as I'm one of them at times, but I couldn't help but be amazed how they switch fast like lightning every time.

Ms. Eui arrived. She was with our class president. They both had smiles on their faces as if they had good news to say. It was something I doubted as our class president had a pile of papers in her hand. I just wish not a quiz and test for us to take or anything like that.

Ms. Eui went straight to the teacher's table in the center while Chul, the president to her seat.

"Attention, Class! I have an important announcement!" Ms. Eui said enough for everyone to hear as she hit the table with enough force with her stick to get our attention. She fixed her glasses and looked around to ensure everyone was in the class and seated in their respective seats.

"Since everyone is here, let me announce something." She started, "This school year-end is fast approaching," She just started. Still, everyone in the class is already reacting in excitement and giggling. At this season, we all know what's coming as it is even marked in the calendar of some.

A smile couldn't be painted and priceless was plastered on some of my classmate's faces. Including the one who's seated beside me, listening excitedly and attentively with his hand clasped together.

Our professor waited for the reactions to subside before she continued talking. "We had a meeting a while ago, and the most awaited event of senior year students were discussed with us." She added with a smile celebrating with us. Unlike other professors, she seemed to like the idea of giving us one of the best nights of our lives.

"You know what it is, right?" She asked us, making everyone shout in thrill and excitement,

"Senior Prom!" Yeon shouted, making everyone wilder with different expressions to voice their excitement. The room was suddenly filled with laughs and giggles.

Some used their tables as their drum, and few continued to make elation sounds. I could also hear some classmates already talking about the possible theme this year and what they will wear.

"That's right!" Ms. Eui confirmed, laughing as she hushed us to quiet down which we did. "It still doesn't have definite detail but it was going to be announce after the monthly evaluatuion ends. For now, If you are sure attendant, get your guardian's approval and let them sign the waiver your class president will be distributed later." She added, roaming his eyes to check all of us.

"I know you've been guys waiting for this annual prom, but I hope this won't be served as your distraction from studying. Moreover, you all know the golden rule, right? You need to pass all tests to be able to attend this event. So focus more on studying before anything else. Do you guys understand?" She added with a kind tone.

"Yes, ma'am!" The class said in chorus.

She laughed heartily and said. "I'm glad to hear that. With that said, don't think about who's going to be your date and finish school activities first." She continued reminding us. "I'll go now. The next subject will be homeroom. So instead of talking do your other activities to lessen your schoolwork." she reminded us one more thing before taking her to leave out of the room.

As Ms. Eui said, the following subject was homeroom class, letting us have free time. It was not actually but time to do other school works such as assignments from whatever subject we like or do some review and such, as long as related to school.

The president was also distributing the waiver.

"Are you coming?" I asked Jungwon. He looked at me and said, "Of course, Our school only has this event. Why would I want to miss it!" he said as if asking him was a sin,

I just rolled my eyes heavenward at him even though he was right. Senior prom became a trademark of our school because it's an event solely they celebrate and originated. Something you wouldn't find in any schools and universities here in the country.

This was also one of the reasons why students work so hard to enroll here. Not to brag but there's only a specific number of students here, and all went through the needles to just get admission.

Thankfully my best friend Jungwon and I were able to make it.

"Don't tell me you're not coming?" He asked me with confusion and worries in his tone,

I just looked at him for a while, weighing his expressions. He's been excited about it since we first set foot here. We have opposite reasons for attending this school.

Mine was, it's one of the top school in the country. While he is because it's the only school that offers Senior Prom.

I let out a small smile and said, "I will. Since you're attending it." I assured him. He let out a soft laugh in relief and said, "That's good. It's going to be different without my best friend enjoying with me." He said, then get back to solving.

"I wonder who's going to date who," he murmured as he stimulatingly clicked his click pen, thinking but undoubtedly not related to his homework in front of him.

Senior prom is also not just an event itself. It also allows seniors to invite their crushes or person they like as their prom date. It is the peak and highlight of being a senior high school student in our school, so everyone looks forward to it.

I did too until it came, and the excitement turned to the opposite for some reason. Perhaps feeling of regret not being with someone that night as it's pretty impossible.

"Why do you care whose going to date who?" I asked him, breaking him from his thoughts, "Just finish that problem first!" I lectured him.

He glared at me as he pouted and then did his homework. "You're such a killjoy," he whispered after a few seconds.

It's not that I was really like that. Still, knowing him. He'll be drifting all day thinking of procrastinating doing his homework, so I somewhat pulled him back before it happened.

Moreover, indeed having a date isn't a problem for us. The only problem is whether we could date someone we really like or give chances to others about dating us.

It's either dating who we want or giving someone a chance we never got, and in times like this, it's always the latter.
