"your an angel"

"Park Jimin,"

Duties of a guardian angel were clear cut. No special instruction or training. Celestial souls that became the hosts of human bodies, sent down to Earth with one mission. The essence of these beings derive from the matter of Heaven itself. A body that this supernatural being inhabits is one as angelic as their species. Guardians serve one purpose: providing everlasting protection through a semi-invisible hand in the land of mortals; an assignment one would spend the entirety of the mortal's life towards fulfilling, or not. Their assignment is being 'matched' with someone on Earth. Not just anyone, a being of need. One who has endured suffering, pain, and only the worst of what they assumed their destiny would hold. As the name implies, the role of the guardian angel on Earth is to alleviate, protect, and nurture a mundane soul. To become the balm of healing upon their lives spent in toil.

"Y/L/N... Y/N"

Unfortunately, the lifestyle of a guardian angel on Earth was to be kept as parallel as possible from the suitor. While angels were given the free pass to intervene whenever the mortal was in conflict, the amount of interaction between angel and human could only be so much save for the smallest of conversations. Why? For a mere human to be aware of the plain existence of angels would throw the universe's balance off its hinges. Forbidden was a word that barely captured the extremity of a relationship between mortal and immortal. Consequences would be immense for such a deed.

"You have my oath, Your Excellency. My very essence is devoted to Y/N from the bones in my body to each and every feather of my wings. This heart of mine will only beat for him when he falls into my line of sight and will still beat for him after he passes,"

Experiencing what was to you the worst years of your life, you thought that things wouldn't get better. The last thing you expected was a guardian angel who would do everything in their power to assure your safety and happiness. Heartbreaks upon heartbreaks, you tell yourself that you've seen each and every type of pain. Repeatedly, you reminded yourself that maybe life wasn't worth living. Lovers who only came and went, seeing you as nothing but a tool for their own pleasure and your pain.Your circle only closed in on you, the pain excruciating realizing just how much the toil of loneliness impacted you.

It wouldn't be long. You would barely even notice Jimin's presence in your life. Until your eyes would fall upon the resplendent figure of your guardian angel the first time, your life would be nothing short of a linear decrescendo. Waning into depths of darkness and depression until life became a bottomless abyss. That is, in the moments you'd think you were just going to fall and fall deeper, instead you would be filled with an unequivocal epiphany of peace in the form of pristine white wings and a mellifluous voice.
Jimin listened attentively to each word regarding his duty. An obedient one of his species, he knew he would fulfill it with his utmost power and intentions. At the same time, the angel wondered. This was his first time on Earth. What could the land of mortals hold for him, someone who wasn't like the others? While thinking he would embark on this journey to learn more about you and complete his life's work, what destiny held for him was beyond ineffable. He would pay a permanent price for an ephemeral feeling worth more than heaven itself.
~
A few months later:

Acquiring the ability of manifestation when landing on Earth was an indulgence beyond words. Though he missed home, he thought he could adjust himself to such a lifestyle since there was so much to learn about. The gift allowed him to take on a dwelling of his choice and a closet that suited his tastes thanks to a surplus of money he was able to accumulate quite easily. Surprisingly, Jimin didn't have too much trouble settling into the town where you resided in. Thinking about previous hesitations, he honestly thought he blew it out of proportion. Wearing clothes that weren't angel robes was his favorite part, realizing that fashion was the second treat he enjoyed in his life on Earth.
The first was seeing you.

Jimin could say for sure his favorite memory so far was the very first time his amber hues met your figure.

He remembered the texture of the chair he sat on in the empty cafe, back pressing against the dull wood while his eyes were ever so observant watching you make your typical coffee round after work. Even the most minute details would not pass his keen eye, taking note of how you pushed the front door a little too roughly; a sign that occurred all too often because your day wasn't the greatest. /The regular/, he mouthed simultaneously while you told the cashier your order and handed over a fistful of crumpled bills. Once you received your cup of coffee, your fingers had tightened around the sleeve noticing that your usual seat had been taken by a stranger. A handsome one, surprisingly. Why did an alluring stranger like him have to occupy a seat in the darker corners of the cafe? With ravishing looks, Jimin seemed to be the type to have an entire entourage crowded around him, seated in the center of the cafe where everyone could gush over his looks in a closer proximity.

Sighing, you took the seat nearest to the male. While it wasn't a big deal, your mind needed something to chew on, exploring the reason as to why someone you'd never seen before had decided to frequent this cafe. You didn't know why your mind resorted to drifting to such an approach, but why not? Unlike other cafes, the one you frequented most often was one that remained empty most of the time. There were many others bustling in lines of people but you preferred the tranquility of something smaller in space and population. He looked like a tourist or maybe even a new resident who probably didn't read his share of reviews before deciding where to come. If he wanted to spark connection, it wasn't going to be here.

On the other hand, while Jimin had been given the typical rundown about pretty much everything in your life from your first few days in this world to the most recent, he found that approach rather inconclusive in finding out who you were. The way he would achieve the true learning experience? A hands-on approach. Watching how you took the seat closest to him said much more about you than words spilling out of an omniscient source. His eyes never needed to lock with yours to know that you were curious as to why he'd taken your usual spot.

However, to stir the pot, Jimin found himself lifting his head, warm eyes meeting yours and offering a small smile.
/Love at first sight?/ No, what a cliche. You didn't believe in such things anymore, let alone the first word. He was just a cut above from the faces of many you were used to seeing. At the same time, looking away was difficult. There was just, there had to be something pulling you in like a magnet. An aura that emanated nothing but gradual amounts of infatuation which only increased little by little. Your curiosity had peaked at the sight of the stranger, but your hopes also inevitably fell.
Just like a magnet, opposites attract.

The male in front of you whom you've only known for less than fifteen minutes radiated irresistible beauty, grace, and overall composure, all of which were contrasted to your own chemistry: dull, odious, and torpid. Everything he wasn't, you were. His aura shimmered in a heavenly gold hue complemented by clear whites and bold metallic shades whereas you radiated boring, feuillemort colors.

Though his presence had a toll on your heart, you knew there was no chance that this would go anywhere. By the time either you or him were leaving the cafe, he might just breeze past your mind like the door you'd close behind you.

Once again, the magnet struck.

By the time you finished your drink, you were contemplating talking to the male. That wouldn't hurt, right? Hopefully, it would be something that wouldn't cause too much difficulty. Just a simple hi hello, ask if he's new. There was always the chance for the ember to spark between you two. Who knew where things would go afterwards?
Mustering up the courage, you found yourself standing up from your seat to approach the spot you usually would be sitting. By the time you approached Jimin's figure, it took everything in you not to just chicken out. His aura, it was just getting stronger and stronger.

"Hey," you spoke in a shaky mezzo piano, hoping you didn't seem like some weirdo approaching him out of the blue, "I haven't noticed you around here. I guess you can say I'm a careful observer and I've lived here for a long while too," /Oh god, don't ramble. Idiot./

"Anyways, I'm Y/N. I just wanted to introduce myself in case you were new and needed some help settling around here," you conclude with a slight sheepish smile that you were sure looked ugly and lopsided to the man in front of you.

With a slight lift of his head, Jimin found himself exchanging a gaze with you. His gaze was kind, welcoming. Your words brought a small smile to his plush lips, the sight addicting because of how handsome he was. At the same time, the angel could register the tone of your voice for the first time, letting every word one by one replay in his mind like a record he never wanted to stop listening to.

"Jimin," he introduced himself as well, ignoring his conscience warning him about intervening too much in your life. How could he help himself though? Everything in his power was stopping him from wanting to know more all at once. Obviously, that wasn't ethical right now, but it was going to happen with time, of course, "Thank you for the offer. I've only been here for a few months so I guess you can say I'm in between. However, I am rather busy with my job, so I don't get the free time often to explore and take my time,"
He dodged a bullet with the last sentence, to hopefully assert respectfully that he couldn't spend as much time with you as he liked.

"That's no problem, I understand. I could, uh, give you my number?" Shit, that might just be too much. Internally cursing yourself for such a deed, you clenched your fist in your pocket hoping it wasn't something that would tarnish how much Jimin could trust you.

"Your number?" Jimin repeated. He himself was a little surprised you were suggesting a move. Though, he knew he was an angel and the emanating aura would have an effect on you. But, he never expected you'd bring yourself to this extent. Not wanting to make the conversation awkward, he nodded in affirmation, taking out a phone he recently got the hang of using so the two of you could maintain contact.

In the coming days, he knew the temptation of communicating with you would be difficult to ignore. No, he had to text you and call you as little as possible. Yet, why did he even say yes to you in the first place? What was so wrong, what was forbidden to Jimin was what was appealing him the most. He solely wanted to know more. All he had was a simple synopsis in the novel that was you, but he wanted to read you page by page, to hang on to every single word of your work and to cherish every sentence.

He wanted to listen to all the betrayals and heartbreaks to treat them like they were his own heartache. His heart yearned for your good days and bad. Most importantly, in the span of guarding you, watching over you for a few months now, he wanted to write the novel of your life beside you.

But he couldn't.

~

Over the next few days, Jimin's duties resumed to what he was adjusted to, the occasional shadow when you were at work while also frequenting usual spots. Nothing too creepy, but he did need to keep his eye on you. However, one of the attractions in your life that he was foreign towards were the bars. The atmosphere was utterly the opposite of the grace and lavish luxury he was adjusted to. Nonetheless, what he didn't know, and what he wasn't adjusted to, only enticed him more.

As Friday night rolled in, Jimin knew this was the night you found yourself at the bar for a drink to conclude a heavy week. He donned a white dress shirt that had three buttons undone at the top, fitted black jeans accompanying his look along with a simple chain necklace studded with a diamond. Again, he was particularly fond of dressing up in whatever wasn't the plain luster of angel robes.

His hands were kept at his side, observing the sight of the bustling bar around him. The music blared in his ears, not the dynamic he really enjoyed but he didn't have much of a choice to change it. Not to mention the pungent odors that made his nose twitch in slight disgust, he could practically sense when someone was about to drop dead from intoxication.

And at one point, you wished you were like them too, drinking your sorrows away to the point where the alcohol numbed it all. To where you wouldn't feel a thing. If it could make you forget about the pains of your life, you would drink and drink. The vomiting and physical side effects didn't matter if you'd become somewhat numb to it all.
Tonight, you sought exactly that.

To Jimin's dismay, finding you here would be a harder mission that he thought. Having to push between crowds of people, many of which were giving him dirty looks and threatening glances in between harsh, drunken words? Not his cup of tea. He didn't know you were sitting at the lone counter in the corner on your own, on your umpteenth shot at this point.

What could you say? Life had caught up to you. You slowly brought yourself deeper and deeper into the depths of intoxication when the motivation you had in life decreased. Where was life going to take you? Wherever it was, you didn't, oh god you didn't want to go. How many more heartbreaks, how many more moments of denial and utter pain were you going to face until things turned around? Even when you thought you had a chance with someone like Jimin, based on the way he replied so infrequently, your insecurities only reminded you that he definitely wasn't as invested into a relationship as you were right now. Good for him, too. A friendship with him would only be of his devastation.

For sure, he didn't deserve someone like you.

Your mind thumped to the beat of heavy percussion, the kind that was loud enough to disturb all focus and concentration. With hazy eyes, you tilted your head to the nudge of another male at your shoulder before your eyes widened and expression wilted at the sight of who it was.

Before your eyes fell onto the man who tapped your shoulder, they were pinned to the sight of the female beside him. Your ex-girlfriend.

Suddenly, the intoxication made only the rushing wave of emotion horribly worse. You remembered the day she came back home to you drunk with her dress hiked up her ass, the day where you brushed off one of the red flags. Your heart writhed in your chest, the memory of coming home to your once girlfriend making out on the couch of your shared apartment with the very same man who nudged you.

Out of all times, why now? What did the deity up there, whether or not they existed, plan for you? To give you the worst of the worst on what might be your last day? The urge to drop dead drunk only surged immensely, your ears drowning out the words of the male who was at first, kindly asking you to move so he and his girlfriend, your ex, could sit.
"Hello? God, how much did you drink? My girlfriend and I need a seat, do you mind moving somewhere else?" The man asked once again, his patience dwindling while trying to ignore the fact that you were his girlfriend's previous lover.
