An old white-bearded man with a straw hat and wielding a tan bamboo staff is accompanied by a teen with spikey brown hair and fitting a worn-out apron. They stood at the bottom of Mountains of Impossible Height, whose mountain peaks are one of the highest in Ninjago and tower over the clouds. The old man points his staff up, ordering the boy that they must climb the mountain to the top if they ever want to reach the boy's desire. The boy starts climbing with no hesitation, determined to get what he came for.
As the two adventure up the mountainside, a boy who was around the age of the teen was held up in a Monastery on top of the mountain.
"WHOO-HOO-OOO! YEAH!" A teen with (h/c) shouts to the top of his lungs. His hands are in the air as he rolls through the hallways of the Monastery on a rolling chair. Slowly meeting a wall, he placed his feet against the wall. Giving a powerful push, the boy is launched away from the wall. As the seat spun, the boy kneeled on the seat and T-posed.
The teen gets ready to pass the open entrance of the building as his singing echo through the halls. "They see me rollin', they hatin'. Tryna catch me ridin' dirty-HOLY!" A staff suddenly trips him, sending him flying across the hall. From the corner of his eye stood the white-beared man in the entrance.
The teen faceplants into the wooden planks with his legs in the air. He slides across the floor, a few inches away from the elder. Having his lower half coming back to earth, he slowly picks up his upper half with a groan. His face throbs. Well, that's gonna leave a mark. He turns around and comes face to face with the elder, his Master.
The old man glared at the fallen teen and bangs his staff against the floor before shouting, "What did I tell you about rolling through the hallways!?"
The boy flinch. He replies with a nervous grin, "Uh...don't do that?"
His teacher sighs before moving to the side, revealing the boy who was accompanying him. "Get on your feet and meet Kai. He's the reason why you stayed behind, to help and train him."
The (h/c) teen picks himself up as he stares at the brunette. "...yes Master."
The old man turns around and takes a seat in front of the entrance. Stepping outside, the bruised teen sees that the training equipment has been activated in the courtyard. How did I not hear the training equipment being activated? Am I going deaf?
The teen rubbed his arm, waiting for something to be said but received nothing. He looks over at his mentor and points to Kai. "Soo. . .what does he have to do?"
Taking a sip of his tea, the man replies, "Kai must complete the training course before I finish my tea. Then we will see if he is ready." After he explains, he drinks the entire cup. "Today he has failed. Tomorrow he will try again."
Kai whipped his head at him. "Failed?! But I didn't even start-"
He is abruptly interrupted when Wu backflips into the monastery and closes the door. "Patience." The old man told from the other side of the screen door.
Kai ruffles his hair in irritation before turning to the (h/c) haired boy. "Argh. Does he always do this?!"
He rubs the back of his head. "Uhh...I guess you could say. Sorry, I don't really pay attention nor do I remember how he acts." He sheepishly smiles as he rubs his arm. He awkwardly chuckles as eyes were fixated on him. Why did Master pick me? I suck at explaining. Maan, I'm gonna make a fool of myself.
The awkward teen takes in a breath before turning to Kai, "So, my name is (Y/n)-nice to meet you-and I'm a ninja training under the old guy: Master Wu." The kid puts his hand out for a shake as his stomach churns. I hate this. Damn you, Master.
Kai slowly grabs the offered hand and shakes it. "Same here. I'm Kai, but you already know that. Uh, I don't mean to be rude or anything but can we hurry up with the training? Cause I need to save my sister."
(Y/n) let go of his hand. "Oh, yeah, sure. We could start right now. I-uh just want you to try out the training course first so I could see what you need to work on. I'll try my best to make you pass with flying colors."
Kai smiles and nods in appreciation. (Y/n) returns the gesture. My nerves calm down a bit, maybe this won't be so bad.

Oh, you were so wrong.
In the past couple of days, Kai kept on failing. As simple as that, the boy with the hedgehog hair fails to meet Wu's expectations. Sure you train and guide him and the boy does indeed excel in physical attributes, but the stubborn boy brushes off the lectures.
It was another failed attempt on this beautiful evening day. The sun shining as a flock of birds sang.
You fiddled with your hands, chewing on your bottom lip as you stood beside Wu, who began drinking tea. Anxious eyes followed Kai as he vastly made his way through the courtyard. Kai got knocked over by an incoming wooden battering ram. He flew into the Monastery wall, making you flinch and hiss in pain. Wu said nothing as he collects his porcelain teacup and teapot before retreating into the building.
Kai slams his fist on the ground, "Ugh! What am I doing wrong?"
He hears soft thuds click against the concrete floor, growing the closer it got. He looks up to see you towering over him with crossed arms, saying the following, "Hey, listen up because I'm only gonna say this once. Sure you have the skills but you aren't listening to what I am telling you. I'm your mentor until you pass. If you fail, I fail too, we're in this together. And if you want to hurry up and rescue your sister, be patient and don't just mindlessly run in there, don't let your guard down, and don't get cocky. Focus on the task at hand if you want to pass. We are going to save your sister."
With your finished speech, you reached out a hand to Kai. The brunette stares at the hand outstretched to him before looking up at you. He nods with determination and grabs your hand.
You pull him up. "Now with that settled, we are gonna fix those holes and you are gonna pass this training course, one way or the other. Remember, if you are running out of time, try to improvise. Every second counts."
You grin confidently at your student.

Today is the day that Kai will pass. You just know it. With all those trainings from early morning to late of night, you have watched Kai grow. Also creating a friendship along the way.
You handed Kai a wooden sword and gave a prep talk. You give him a thumbs up and a confident smile before walking to the center of the courtyard. There stood a golden dragon statue. You flip over the head, revealing a red button, and press it. The training equipment rises from the ground and activates. You stand off to the side and watch the test commence.
Standing at the front of the gates, watching the equipment move with life, Kai stretches. He squeezes the hilt of his sword. He takes a deep breath before calmly exhaling, calming his nerves. His eyes gleamed with determination and excitement.
Getting into position, Kai runs straight for the first obstacle. Vastly making his way through the undulation wooden pillars, Kai throws his sword at Wu's teacup, knocking it away. Wu pours tea into a new cup and when he goes to drink it, he notices that Kai is nowhere to be found.
"Was that one sugar...or two?" Kai appeared beside the old man, offering the cup of sugar cubes.
You and Wu stared stun at the teen before them, who in turn gave a cocky smirk.
Being impressed with Kai's progress, Wu enters the monastery, not speaking a word.
"So, am I gonna learn this Spinjitzu I've been hearing about?" Kai smirk.
"You already have. Your final test comes tomorrow." Wu closes the door. "My advice is to get some sleep." He spoke from behind the screen door before popping his head out, "And splendid job (Y/n)." He closes the door again.
You could only gape at the closed doors as you stared wide-eyed. A large grin crept onto your face and you turn to Kai. "Haha! You did it. You actually did it! I-I thought we would have to work on it for a little while longer but NO, you passed with flying colors! And that was so smart of you to use your sword to buy you some time." You hold out your fist for a fist bump.
You were caught off-guard when Kai suddenly hug you. On instinct, you stiffen and extend your arms out.
Kai pays no mind to it and smiled. "Thank you. Thank you for putting up with my stubbornness. I couldn't have done it without your help. I'm sorry for not listening to your advice from earlier, even though you are literally training under the guy."
His words brought a small smile to your face.

Later that night, three unknown ninjas in black gi enter the monastery. Wu and you are sound asleep while Kai prepares for bed.
Kai stares at his reflection in the bathroom mirror, Wu's voice echoing through his head, "My advice is to get some sleep."
He gestures wildly in front of the mirror and swings his toothbrush, "Oh yeah?! Well, take this!" He starts to jump around the room, enacting as if he was in a battle.
The first ninja lands silently near the front door, wielding a pair of nunchucks.
"And this!" Kai swings his toothbrush around like a sword.
The second ninja lands in the corner of the room, possessing a pair of shurikens.
"And this!" Kai continued. He turns around, ready to complete the ending act when he abruptly comes face to face with the third ninja, who is holding a scythe.
The three ninjas circle him and prepare to attack.
Kai gulps once he realized the sticky situation he was in. "Oops..."
