After the cigarette issue, Suna did drop his "after practice" smoking as Atsumu still kept an eye on him, just in case. The twins also raided his apartment for his cigarette stocks and made sure they got rid of all of it. If Suna ever planned on restocking, that'll be another mission for the twins.
Osamu helped in the efforts but he remained quiet for the most of it. It's undeniable that the two was still kept on a knife edge after the incident. It's easier to say that the tension between them got worse before (hopefully) it gets better.
Their teammates and coach have started to grow worried as well. At first they thought it was just normal childish banters. Well, not until they witness Osamu's hands grabbing Suna's collar or when Suna, almost obsessively started getting blackmail materials against Osamu.
Poor Atsumu was always caught at the dead center of it all. Lucky for him two of their upperclassmen, Aran and Kita, would always intervene and break them up, either verbally calm or by force.
"The two of ya should really stop bickering when we are at practice. I swear yer gonna give Aran-kun and Kita-san an aneurysm if this goes on." Atsumu said.
They just finished their last practice before their club's weeklong summer break. Atsumu insisted they go hang out to "build teamwork" which ended with the three of them sitting side by side on the couch, Atsumu being in the middle again, playing random video games at Suna's apartment.
"Tell that to your brother." Suna nodded towards Osamu.
"Yer the one who always start it though." Osamu retorted.
"See?!" Atsumu sighed.
"Ya guys suck at this. I beat both of ya already."
"Huh?!" Atsumu whipped his eyes back at his phone's screen showing Osamu's character celebrating his victory.
Suna sighed and placed his phone on the center table, "I don't want to play anymore. I'm tired already."
"Samu?" Atsumu turned back to his brother.
"I hate to agree with him but same." he did the same with his phone then glanced at Suna who is now leaned back with his eyes closed, laying his head on top of the couch's backrest.
"Let's play another round, come on!"
Osamu turned to look at his whining brother, closed his eyes and leaned back as well, raising both of his arms to support his head as he laid it on top of the backrest too.
Atsumu clicked his tongue in disappointment, he also put his phone down and started shaking the legs of the two that is closest to him.
"Why is it when it comes to bullying me, ya guys suddenly agree with each other? Come on! Get up! Let's plaaaaay~"
Atsumu continued to whine and shake their legs. Suna was the one to break first and snorted as he tried to supress his laughter. Osamu hearing this can't contain it anymore and started laughing.
Atsumu then crossed his arms and started pouting. He gave up on shaking the two and leaned back himself. It was clear now that they were just messing around with him.
"Yer such a cry baby." Osamu teased.
"and you always take the bait." Suna added
"Yeah yeah.. ya bullies! But ya know... sometimes I like this better. I hope ya two can get along well like this more often."
Suna opened his eyes and turned his head towards Atsumu, who's just staring at the ceiling. He then glanced at Osamu at the other side of Atsumu's head and as if on perfect timing, their eyes met.
They held it for a while until Atsumu suddenly sat up, breaking their eye contact, "Oh I know! Hey Suna!"
Suna looked questioningly at Atsumu but didn't move from his position as Osamu brought his arms down, eyes still glued at Suna.
"We've known ya for a long time already.."
"4 months is not a long time." Suna interrupted.
"It is!"
"So?"
"So.. we should be calling each other by nickname now."
"Suna, Atsumu and Osamu is fine though." Suna closed his eyes briefly and then looked at Atsumu again.
"No! That's not what bestfriends do. Maybe that's why the two of ya can't get along most of the time." Atsumu shook his hands and head.
"We're not bestfriends though."
"Agree." Osamu nodded.
"Hey! The three of us are! and because of that ya need to show more affection towards each other!"
Osamu and Suna exchanged horrified looks and turned to Atsumu as if he killed somebody.
'Affection? Really now Atsumu?'
"Come on! You can call us Tsumu and Samu too! and then we can call you-"
"Rin."
Now it was Atsumu who looked at his twin brother in amusement. Suna's eyes widened as he also looked at Osamu who, to his surprise, was already staring at him. But instead of the usual cold blue eyes that glares at him when they fight, he was met with seemingly mellow ones.
"That's perfect Samu! right...Rin?" Atsumu grinned.
Suna stared on at Osamu until he was pulled back by Atsumu's call of his unsual nickname. He had to blink a couple of times before turning to look at the ceiling.
'These troublesome twins..'
"Suit yourselves.."
Suna yawned under the sheets. It was the last day of their weeklong "summer break" and tomorrow they would be expected to come to volleyball practice again.
Unfortunately for Suna, something woke him up early in the morning but being still half asleep, he can't really pin point what it is. He frowned as he was not even willing to open his eyes yet. He was sprawled in bed and stretching his limbs when he heard his phone vibrate.
'Too fucking early..'
It didn't stop from vibrating somewhere under the pile of pillows and sheets so Suna had no choice but to start blindly digging for it. After a couple more of feeling for the said phone, he finally found it. He looked at what the ruckus was about and squinted as the light of his phone hit his eyes.
'Miya #7 is calling..'
"What do you need from me now?"
Suna had a mini meltdown and started flailing his arms and kicking his blanket and pillows off the bed.
The phone still won't stop vibrating as he stopped from his tantrum and gasped for breath. He buried his face onto his bed and screamed.
"Goddamnit!!!" He sighed and took a deep breath, still irritated but still proceeds to answer his phone.
"This better be important Miya."
"Good morning to ya too Rin. Oh.. and make that two Miyas! Greet him Samu!"
"Mornin.."
"You're too loud and it's too early. What do you idiots want?"
"Open yer door."
"What? Oh hell no.. Go away!" Suna turned on his bed, frustrated.
"Open yer door or I'll bang on it until I wake up yer neighbors too... or worse, we'll just kick and destroy it to come in."
"He's gonna do it. Don't tell me later I didn't warn ya." Osamu said in the background.
"Why did you even tolerate your sad excuse for a brother to come here this early huh?" Suna frustratedly asked the other twin.
"I had to.. he already talked my ears out since yesterday about wanting to show you our h-"
"SAMU!"
On the other side of the phone, Suna kinda heard Atsumu cover his brother's mouth to shut him up. He shook his head and grinned even though he was still displeased about the inevitable intrusion waiting at his door.
"RIN! OPEN THE FREAKING DOOR!" Atsumu screamed.
"Alright already! Don't shout! I can even hear your voice from my room!" he stumbled out of his room and walk straight to his front door, still holding the phone to his ear.
"THEN MOVE FASTER!"
"Damnit Tsumu!"
'This better be good or else..'
He swung the door open.
"What the fuck is your prob-" he looked up at the twins and froze immediately at what he saw. He was too stunned to continue what he was about to say. Mouth slightly opened, he stared at the them, still unmoving.
"So... what do ya think?" Atsumu said, a smug little smile on his stupid face, while his arms are still around a struggling Osamu, covering his mouth.
At around 7 in the morning, the annoying Miya twins showed up at Suna's front door. Their hairs, although still sporting the same style, are now dyed golden yellow and gray except for their undercuts that showed their natural hair color.
"Out of all the colors, why piss yellow?" Suna teased at the now blond Atsumu sitting on the couch beside his gray haired twin as he placed two mugs of coffee on the center table for them.
"As the better twin, I've already told him that but he won't listen." Osamu smirked at his added insult to the injury. He took a mug and took a careful sip.
"I told ya it's "golden yellow"! To put it simply, it's blond. Also.. I'm the better twin."
"Yeah right. Keep believing that." Suna sat down on a chair positioned in front of the couch. He brought a knee to his chest and leaned his head on it as he hold his own mug of coffee.
"Ya know our grandparents would always say that I am the sun and he is the moon. Our names Atsu and Samu literally means hot and cold. I think our new hair is totally fitting." He simpered, looking very much pleased with himself.
"Yer exaggerating this again, you hopeless romantic. It's getting kinda disgusting Tsumu."
Suna just smirked as he took a sip of coffee, sleep still evident in his eyes, his hair still unkempt. Still half asleep, he unconsciously stared at Atsumu.
"Psh! Whatever ya say Samu." he stuck out his tongue at Osamu and proceeded to take a sip of his coffee.
"Eek! So bitter!" Atsumu grimaced at his mug and stood up. He then went to the kitchen to fix his drink. During the entire time, Suna kept his gaze at him and traced his every move until he's out of sight.
Osamu's chuckle was cut short when he caught Suna. The sleepy teen didn't seem to feel the blue eyes that were also watching him carefully, the gesture being masked by drinking from his coffee.
Suna sighed and Osamu carefully brought his mug down from his lips.
"So.." Osamu started.
Suna flinched.
He was obviously rattled when he heard Osamu's voice, as if he was just remembering that there was another person in the room. He immediately snatched his eyes from the direction of the kitchen, slowly straightened up in his seat and looked at Osamu.
'Shit'
In front of him, the other teen stared with an unreadable expression on his face. Suna tried to play it cool by staring back.
"Yours look like ash." he tried to distract the other teen.
"Uh huh.." Osamu nodded, not taking his eyes off Suna as he brought the mug carefully to his lips as if to take another sip.
"Does it remind ya of cigarettes then.. Rin?"
Osamu blinked as Suna's eyes widened.
Tension was definitely hanging in the air now. Suna felt it on top of the budding weird feeling in his gut as he watched Osamu bring down his mug to place on the center table. He then leaned back on the backrest of the couch and crossed his arms, face still unreadable, eyes still staring.
and then it shattered..
"We should go out!" Atsumu exclaimed as he went back into the living room while stirring his coffee, shattering the tension.
Suna took a deep breath and brought his leg down. His hands trembled as he placed his mug on the center table too. If Osamu noticed, he didn't say anything.
'What the heck was that?'
"I was promised onigiri." Osamu said.
"and onigiri ya will get! Come on Rin! Wash up real quick so we can go out!"
Suna looked at Atsumu, the tension in the air was long gone but the weird feeling in his gut, whatever it was, it was still there, "You do know you can get onigiri without tagging me along right?"
"But wouldn't it be better if it was the three of us? Come on!"
'Would it?'
He glanced at Osamu.
"He'll keep on ranting so come with us. I want to enjoy my onigiri." Osamu shrugged.
Suna just defeatedly sighed, "You and your dumb antics Tsumu."
"Imagine having to live under the same roof and sleep on the same bunk bed for the rest of yer life."
"Oh come on! Both of ya love me though."
"In your dreams.." Suna waved a dismissive hand in front of his face teasingly.
"Whatever ya say.." Osamu did the same.
Atsumu chuckled as he sat beside Osamu on the couch.
"I bet ya.. ya guys are definitely gonna miss me when I'm gone." Atsumu winked at both of them. Osamu just snorted and shook his head.
Suna stood up, "As if you really have any intentions of letting us breathe ever."
The familiar sound of laughter filled Suna's apartment at that. All of the tension from before lost and forgotten.
