After a lot of confusion, Dasom and her friends from her university finally decided to go out to dinner on Wednesday, the same night that she was going to sit in on Mark's recording session. But he had told her it would be past 10 pm, so that shouldn't be a problem for her.
She was having a great time catching up with Hyunsik, Juhee, and Kou, and to her surprise, Juhee had secretly invited Xukun and Shiyun as well. There group was whole after a longer break than they'd ever had... well, almost whole.
"Dasom did you make eye contact with any of the SuperM members during the concert?" Juhee asked, bouncing up and down in her seat. "You looked like you were right up front from your stories."
"If Taemin looked at Dasom she wouldn't be alive and breathing right now," Shiyun joked from across Dasom, making her chuckle in agreement.
"True words," Dasom replied, but she was a little sick of talking about the concert, they'd already done plenty of that back in the US. "But yeah, actually... I made eye contact with Mark and Ten."
"With NCT members?" Shiyun said, sighing. "I wish I was you."
"I bet they thought you were sexy as fuck," Juhee said, taking a bite of her blueberry cheesecake.
"I bet," Kou muttered, only loud enough for Dasom to hear him next to her, and she kicked his shin under the table.
"Was their music any good though?" Xukun asked. "That's what matters."
Dasom nodded aggressively. "Fucking lit," she confirmed. "Y'all should check them out, especially since they have SHINee and EXO blood."
"And NCT," Shiyun added. "Dasom does this mean you'll come with me to an NCT concert someday?"
Normally, Dasom would have still said no, but now that she had met the boys, she would love to support them like that, although she couldn't tell anyone that that was the reason.
"Of course babe," she smiled. "Any time."
"Who's that girl who comments on all your instagram posts by the way?" Hyunsik wondered. "She's so hot."
"Of course you stalked her," Kou teased Hyunsik, rolling his eyes.
"Ohh haha that's my friend Nevaeh," Dasom explained, praying they wouldn't ask how she knows her, because she didn't have a story prepared for that.
"How do you know her?" Hyunsik asked. "Can you introduce me?"
"She has a boyfriend, too bad," Dasom answered, avoiding the first question and hoping Hyunsik wouldn't go back to it.
"Damn it," Hyunsik said jokingly, going back to eating his dessert.
Just then, Shiyun's phone dinged on the table with a notification, and she checked the screen.
"Oh my god, which one of you posted a story from here?" she asked, looking exasperated. "Taeri just texted me asking why we didn't invite her."
"Yikes," Hyunsik said, looking up from his ice cream. "That was me, I totally forgot, my bad."
"Is she really asking why we didn't invite her though?" Kou asked, looking annoyed. "She hasn't even apologized to Dasom properly."
"Y'all, it's not a big deal," Dasom said, not really meaning it. "I wouldn't have minded if she was here."
"Liar, why are you such a nice person?" Juhee said, frowning. "Tell Taeri she can join us again if Dasom gets an actual chance to forgive her with a sincere apology."
"Nah, don't do that Shiyun," Xukun said. "Taeri needs to figure that out on her own."
Dasom couldn't help but smile as the conversation continued for a bit before moving on to something else. She was glad she had all her close friends' support on this situation. Taeri's words that night had really hit way too close to home, and she honestly didn't care for the girl's friendship anymore.
At the same time, she knew how close the others were to her, so she was being open-minded, ready to forgive, but not to forget. Hers and Taeri's friendship would never go back to normal, and Dasom had made her peace with it.
The sound of a notification from her own phone this time shook Dasom out of her thoughts. It was from Mark.

Ah shit. Dasom looked at the time on her phone and realized it was already almost ten in the night. She wasn't even done eating but she needed to leave since she was fifteen minutes away from the recording studio Mark had sent her the location to.
"Guys I really gotta go, like right now," Dasom said, standing and making everyone look up at her. "Whoever is paying, just text me how much I owe you and I'll transfer it ASAP."
"Already?" Juhee asked. "We were gonna go chill at mine and Kou's after though."
"I'm so sorry bro," Dasom said apologetically, slipping her phone into her handbag. "I had plans for tonight already, I just didn't say anything because we weren't able to find a day we all were free."
"I didn't even think you had other friends," Hyunsik commented, only partially kidding around.
"Where are you going?" Shiyun asked.
"Just need to meet some friends for a bit," Dasom said hurriedly, turning to leave. "Bye guys, see you later."
Her friends chorused a series of goodbyes, but Dasom didn't notice how confused they all looked. That is, except Kou, who had a pretty good idea of who she was running off to meet despite how vague she was being.
Fifteen minutes later, Dasom arrived in front of the building where Mark and the others were recording their new songs. She was getting more excited by the second as she walked inside, taking out her phone to call Mark. It would be her first time seeing a professional music recording happen in person, something she had always wanted to be a part of.
After a couple of rings, Dasom realized that Mark was probably already recording, and was about to cut the call when the line connected.
"Hello? Dasom?"
Even hearing his voice made her giddy now. "Hey, Mark! I'm so sorry, I got caught up with my friends and lost track of time," she replied.
"No worries, Doyoung decided to record some of his parts again. Are you here?"
"Yup, I'm in the lobby."
"Okay, I'm gonna come find you."
"Cool, see you in a bit Marker."
"Yup!"
A few minutes later, Dasom saw Mark walking down a flight of stairs from where she was seated on a couch. Immediately, she turned on her phone and pretended she hadn't been watching for him.
"Dasom!" he called, and she looked up to see him smiling and waving at her from the bottom of the staircase. In the three times she had seen him in person now, she had never seen him look better.
His hair was covered by a beanie and he was wearing a grey hoodie over some funky patterned blue jeans and black converse shoes. It was so casual that he looked like some guy that just lived next door to her, and that made him all the more attractive to her.
He gestured for her to come join him, and so she did. As she walked over to him, Mark told the lady at the reception that Dasom had authorization to come up to the studio, and with a nod of acknowledgement from the lady, the two began walking up the stairs.
"Yo, I just ate a shit ton of food," Dasom complained jokingly as she followed Mark up. "Are you sure there isn't an elevator."
"It's just two floors," Mark replied, looking back at her and smiling. "Walk off the calories."
"Bitch," she said, unable to resist laughing at his roast. "How is the song coming?"
"It's just me, Yuta, and Johnny left," Mark said. "Nev is here too because she's waiting for Doyoung."
A sense of relief washed over Dasom as she inferred that Jaehyun wouldn't be there, and neither would he be coming by later. She could comfortably sit through the whole recording session, or at least, as long as Mark was there.
Once they reached the booth where the recording was happening, Dasom was fascinated before she could even go inside.
"Wait," Mark said, putting a hand in front of her before she could go in. "I know he's in a soundproof booth but let's just wait for Doyoung to finish his take."
"Oh right, my bad," she said, turning her attention to the view through the window. There were three people sitting in front of two computers. mixing boards, and midi controllers, and there was Doyoung singing in the booth. She watched as he took off his headphones and bowed quickly before exiting the booth. That's when Mark opened the door and went inside, and she followed.
"Oh, Dasom!" It was Nev, who had been sitting on the couch with two coffee cups in her hands, next to... Jaehyun.
WHY IS HE HERE? Dasom screamed in her mind, as she hugged Nevaeh, trying not to show how flustered she was. Jaehyun had briefly looked over at her when Nevaeh had called her name, but now he was busy talking to Doyoung.
"The song is turning out so good," Nevaeh told her excitedly. "You're gonna love it. I'm gonna leave now, but have fun!"
"I'm sure it's great," Dasom laughed nervously. "Get home safe Nev."
That's when Dasom realized something. "Wait!" she cried, looking at Doyoung. "I won't get to see any of you main vocalists recording?"
"You just missed me Dasom," Doyoung shrugged, looking amused by the pouty expression that was on Dasom's face. "Maybe next time."
With that, Doyoung and Nevaeh said goodbye to everyone and left.
"It's okay D," Mark said, reaching over and patting her head, making her freeze at his touch. "I'll invite you to watch again if you're well-behaved."
She swatted his hand away and rolled her eyes. "Like I'm a lost puppy or some shit," she frowned, flopping down on the couch, her despair at not being able to hear Taeil, Doyoung, or Donghyuck's live vocals making her forget that she was now seated next to the last person she had wanted to see.
"You want a treat?" Mark asked, laughing at Dasom.
"Market, I don't like this confident side of you anymore," she chuckled. "Now go, don't keep everyone waiting."
"Sorry, I need to be confident if I'm about to record," Mark said, walking toward the booth and stopping to talk to the producers. "Can I hear everything that has been done so far?"
The main producer nodded and Mark went inside and put on the headphones that were hanging from the stand where he placed his lyrics sheet.
"Hey," Jaehyun said, and Dasom almost jumped in her seat, forgetting that he was next to her.
"Hey," she replied, not looking at him.
"You know you don't have to be this awkward around me," he said, and Dasom shut her eyes at his words, knowing this was exactly what she didn't want to be talking about.
"Yeah I know," Dasom sighed. "I don't know what's wrong with me."
"Well figure it out, we're homies remember?" Jaehyun said, holding out a stapled set of papers. "Here, you can look at my lyrics sheet while he's recording."
"Right, thanks," she smiled, taking the papers from him and skimming through them just as the music started. "Dang, the subtle innuendos do be popping off in this one."
"You know Japanese?" Jaehyun asked, looking surprised.
"Yeah," Dasom nodded. "Now shut up, or I'll miss hearing your part."
Jaehyun smiled, satisfied that Dasom was probably more back to normal with him.
Meanwhile, Dasom was only thinking about how good the song sounded so far. As she watched Mark nodding his head to the beat, she had thoughts running through her mind. The melodic R&B sound was exactly what she liked, and she couldn't help but think that Jaehyun sounded pretty good when he rapped, even if it wasn't too many bars.
It sounded somewhat comforting even though she could clearly tell from the lyrics it was a love song, or dare she say even sexual. Upon her first listen of the incomplete song, she wasn't sure it had reached it's full potential as a b-side from SM Entertainment, but it was definitely great.
"Good? Or nah?" Jaehyun asked her when the song ended.
"So far I really like it," Dasom said, holding up a thumb.
"Cool," Jaehyun said. "Now, how do you know Japanese?"
"Shh," she silenced Jaehyun, avoiding the question. "Mark is recording."
Dasom watched Mark in wonderment. His part in this song was quite small, with just one line in the chorus and a few bars of rapping after the first chorus. Yet he was still so full of ideas and the hunt for perfection seemed easy for him as he didn't need more than a few takes to finish up.
"So?" Mark asked Dasom, once he had exited the recording booth and thanked the producers. "What did you think?"
"That was so cool," she smiled, jumping out of her seat next to Jaehyun. "You breezed through it like it was nothing."
"Yeah, Mark is a genius," Jaehyun said, standing up as well. "But come on Desi, how do you know Japanese?"
"Why does it matter?" Dasom retorted, folding her arms.
"You know Japanese?" Mark looked surprised. "Now even I wanna know how."
"My best friend is Japanese," she answered, but that wasn't the real reason.
"Oh please, that doesn't explain why you know how to read it," Jaehyun prodded her.
Dasom winced and pursed her lips together. "Fine," she conceded. "I may have had a weeb phase that went so deep that I took Japanese lessons to watch anime without subtitles."
Mark and Jaehyun both began to laugh at her despair from her confession but quickly tried to smother it after seeing her face.
"It's okay Dasom," Mark chuckled. "At least it made you smarter."
"I bet Yuta would be interested to hear your skills," Jaehyun said, still looking amused too.
"Shut up," Dasom laughed, able to make fun of herself too. "It was a phase."
As if on cue, the door opened and in walked the one and only Nakamoto Yuta. "Mark!" he exclaimed, grabbing onto the younger boy's arm. "Ah, Jaehyun and Dasom are here too!"
"Perfect," Jaehyun smirked. "Dasom, why don't you put yourself to the test?"
"Yeah yeah, konbanwa Yuta-san," Dasom played along, making Yuta look confused.
"Okay, let's just leave," Mark interjected before Yuta or Jaehyun could say anything, wiggling out of Yuta's grasp and taking Dasom's hand. "Good luck with your recording Yuta!"
Just barely giving Dasom time to say goodbye, Mark led her out of the room and to the staircase where he finally let go of her hand.
"What was that about?" Dasom asked. "I would have loved to hear Yuta record too."
"Sorry but I wanted you to myself tonight," Mark said, and Dasom immediately became flustered.
"You WHAT?!"
