Fauna Kent's POV

After last night's event, I called in to be sick as I was not having any motivation to get my work done. I know I should have been keeping myself busy to forget this feeling or maybe surpassed it as I was looking at my laptop. I should get some work done.

"Fauna?" My mother's voice was coming from behind the door. I was sitting in bed as I did not feel like getting up for a shower or eating or anything in particular.

"Open the door,"

"It's unlocked," my voice was hoarse as I had been crying all over the night as I was replying to the event of the kiss last night. I should be ashamed but again I was angry. Angry that my sister gets the better part of the deal and I have to deal with the consequences.

"Fauna, why aren't you working?" She asked me as she was looking at me when she opened the door. She stood at the door as she was afraid to come into my bedroom. Sure, it was not Flora's, so I was guessing that she did not want to risk being in my presence than she should.

"For god's sake, have a shower already and open the window. You are not a recluse," she said before she went out of my room, not bothering to close the door. I sighed as I got out of my bed and I went to close the door.

I was not feeling like having sore muscles from not moving so much but I guessed I have to make do with pulling the curtains and making my bed before I can take a shower. My skin felt sticky from the water fountain last night as I just changed my clothes, not bothering to shower before bed.

I took my towel as I went into the bathroom. I was looking at the mirror as I was taking in my appearance right now. I was a hot mess, at least to say. My eyes were bloodshot, my nose was red and my dark circles were getting the worst of me. I have seen better days but last night I could not sleep at all. I hoped that I can get it off after I showered.

So, I opened the faucet and I let the warm water just hit my body and my sore muscles. I was not having it. I was demotivated to do things and I don't feel like washing myself.

But of course, that would result in more stinking hours of my day, so I started to shampoo and condition my wet hair, as well as I, washed my body. I also scrubbed my face that maybe have some foundation in it but I don't care. I just wanted the bed right now.

And of course, my day can get any worst.

"Fauna, we have some appointments to make for today. Good thing you don't go to work," my mother said as she was standing in my bedroom as I was picking up my usual outfit, black shirt and jeans and of course, black sneakers. I let my hair air dry because I did not care about my appearance anymore.

"Will you listen to me for one second?"

"No, I was sick and I don't think walking and shopping will help me get better," I said as I was slipping into bed again. My mother was about to give me a handful of her lecture before my phone rang.

Talking about saved by the ring.

I went to pick up my phone that was on the night table when I was still in my towel. I did not recognize the number so I just answer it.

"Hello?" I asked as I was waiting for the other person to say something.

"Oh good, you're awake. I was trying to get to you for the last couple of hours but your boss told me that you were out of the day. Why? Are you sick?" The familiar husky voice that turned my legs to beans and last night's memory was coming flooding my mind.

His perfect lips.

His body heat.

His sensual touch.

I was about to have a panic attack before my mother cleared her throat as she was listening to me.

"I'll be waiting for you downstairs then. Get a dress," she said as she was eyeing my clothes. Seriously, can she stop looking at me as if I was not a lady?

"Hello?"

"Yes?"

"So, about that offer—"

"You know what, Adam, I am sick and I don't want to talk about work right now, please?" I said as I was rubbing my temple as I was trying to think of any excuse. I just wanted to have alone time right now.

"Oh, okay. I understand. I'm sorry," he said before a huge silence was between us. "Okay, maybe I should let you have your rest now, have a good day," he said.

"You too," I replied before he hung up. I put my phone on the night table before I looked at my clothing. I don't want to go out, not when I felt sore all over my body and had a headache but when my mother said she wanted me to come, that meant no otherwise. I sighed before I went to take a green summer dress and put it on.

"Took you long enough to get dressed," my mum said as she was eyeing me up and down the dress. I was descending the stairs before I rolled my eyes at her.

"Don't get smart with me, young lady. If your sister is here—"

"Yeah, she would be a great bride for Adam and much better than me. Okay, thanks for the fact that I was getting married instead of your favorite daughter!" I snapped at her as she was quiet, listening to my blabber. I was taking a deep breath before I sighed.

"Look, I know that you wanted me to keep her fiancé in check and I promise you that when she got back, she will have her husband and I will step down. But please, just please, stop comparing me to her as I would be happy to listen to you and your endless torture. Just spare the lecture," I said as I was rubbing my temples.

I closed my eyes as I realized that I snapped at my mother, the first time after I promised her I will behave but that was in front of Florenz. Not when we were alone. I opened my eyes to see that my mother was staring at me before I walked past her.

"Are we going to the appointments or are you going to stand there?" I asked her as I was walking toward the door. It felt good to shut her for a while like I have my voice back.

And I don't intend to lose it now.

"No, so much exposure,"

"No, it's too big,"

"No, not enough composure to it,"

"No,"

"No,"

"And no,"

I was trying on different dresses as my mother would disapprove and disapprove of her own choices, not mine, and kept me going back for more.

"What about this one, ma'am?" The salesperson said as she showed my mother an A-line dress that has sheer satin on the bodice.

"Hmm, let me see on her," she said before I was ushered into the room with that salesperson.

"Your mother was a tyrant," she said as she was fitting me into the gown. I smiled at her comment.

"Tell me about it," I said before I went out of the dress and my mother stopped in her action and she was looking at me.

"What about this?" I asked as I was doing a twirl in front of her. She was taking everything on my body as the A-line was accentuated my breasts, even more, my curves were wrapped in satin by the bodice and my bare shoulder was showing to their perfect angle.

"Hmm," she said as she was circling me. I was waiting for her another disapproval before she said something that I was not expecting.

"We'll be taking this. Pack it up, we have an appointment at the salon," she said as she went to take her seat as I went inside and changed. I smiled because the first one was over and the second was coming like lightning speed.

I was seated in front of the mirror as my mother was instructing the hairstylist what she wanted to look at on my hair. She said that I needed to lighten up and have some highlights in it. I rolled my eyes as I was trying to give my opinion on my hair. She also has suggested that I should be trimmed.

"Mother, I like my hair. Do not trim it," I said to the hairstylist but of course, she ignored me.

Idiot!

Then, there I was, getting organic hair dye into my hair as my brown hair was not enough. She asked to get some highlights and now, I was doing just that as I was looking at my fingers and I did not have anything to talk about right now.

"Now, sit here for a minute, I will come back," the hairstylist said as she was getting some supply for my hair as I was being placed under that thingy with the twirling thing.

I think it was a heater or something.

My mother was talking into her phone and she had smiled on her face. Maybe she was talking to my father and I was not having the moment right now where I was wondering what Adam could be doing right now.

Maybe he was fighting crime or maybe he was having some fun with his female officers. I shook my head.

Where had that thought come from?

I was dragged back to reality as I was getting removed from the heater and the hairstylist was washing my hair as she was putting some oils and shit into my hair. After she was finished, I was surprised to see that my dull hair was now glossy and it has some highlights that accentuated my fair complexion even more.

"Okay, time to go," my mother said as she was dragging me out after she paid for the treatment with a swipe of my father's credit card.
