I haven't spoken to my heart in ages.
It's still angry about the last one I adored.
I tried to coax it into conversation.
It's much too tired of being ignored.
I should apologize to my heart.
I wonder if it's inclined to forgive.
Some say we're better off apart.
Hearts often lead to mischief.
But mine is all of love and kindness.
I'm sure it feels that's a thankless job.
I forsook it first, in pitiful blindness,
Silently cursing it as I sobbed.
I should really forgive my heart.
Neither of us are quite good at that.
Although, this was its own fault, in part,
I'll listen more and love it back.
Eventually we'll both make strides
To free ourselves from feeling shame.
I'll miss you though, in the meantime,
My sweet companion, through sun and rain.
