Bondita Das is a woman of mysterious nature. Whilst her sister Sampoorna was married, Bondita was rejected because she was educated. Her father is still hoping that Bondita will be able to get a groom after she completes her 'secret mission'.
Her maternal aunt left no stone unturned to choose a groom for Bondita in her absence. Her father also agreed, not knowing the deceit committed by the Groom's family.
The Roy Choudharys were a powerful Zameendar family of Tulsipur. They had 3 sons, Anirudh, Som and Batuk, out of which Anirudh, who is a Barrister, was married. He was married to a girl named Aarya, who became infertile after an accident that led to a miscarriage.
His Kaka, Trilochan Roy Choudhary left no stone unturned to garner an heir for the Roy Choudharys. He sought the help of a Brothel named Sona Gachi, but it was brought down by a Barrister. He was upset and was cursing the Barrister in his mind.
"Bade Malik," Munshi started. "My son has a wife named Sampoorna, who has an unmarried cousin."
"What's her name, Munshi?"
"Bondita. She's been rejected because she was educated."
"WHAT?" Trilochan yelled. "I don't want that girl."
"But Bade Malik, even Choti Malkin is educated. And Barrister Babu likes educated women only."
"Ah, you are right Munshi. We will meet the family in the absence of the girl. At any cost, the girl shouldn't get to know that Anirudhh is married."
"But Bade Malik, what if she comes to know of it?"
"She will not come to know of it. I will send Aarya Bahu back to London for a while."
"Okay. I will inform her parents."
"Hmm. AARYA BAHU!"
"Ji, Kaka Sasur Ji?"
"You wanted to stay in London for a while, right?"
"Yes, you are allowing me to go?"
"Yes. And one more thing. I have found a way to get an heir to this family."
"How KSJ?"
"I have decided to marry Anirudh to a virgin, educated girl for a year."
"KSJ, that is wrong."
"Bahu, I am doing it for us. Our family. I was asked to kick you out but I didn't. Her family knows that Anirudh is married."
"Fine. I will go away from here for a year or so. Give her time to conceive. I can stay in London and check-up with doctors."
"Sure Bahu, you don't worry. We will have an heir soon."
Aarya nodded and went back to her work oblivious to the fact that she was tricked into agreeing to Anirudh's second marriage and also that the girl's family doesn't know that her husband is already married. Kaka somehow convinced Anirudh of the second marriage.
Aarya soon left for London and Kaka took Anirudh with him to see the girl once. When they went inside, they got shocked on learning that Bondita went somewhere that no one knew where she went.
After a few minutes, Bondita arrived in her western look shocking Kaka and Anirudh was surprised at the sight he saw.
"You wear western clothes?"
"Yes. Always. It's been a habit since I studied in London. I can wear a saree also."
"Once you marry my son, you will wear sarees-"
"No, you will wear western because I will be wearing Western every day. It's not a problem for me."
"Okay, and the name is Bondita. Bondita Das."
"Okay, Bondita." Anirudh liked her as she was more modern compared to Aarya.
She wore a saree later and Kaka was impressed. The marriage was fixed and Mami was extremely happy with Bondita getting married. The marriage was completed in a week and Bondita brought her books and other things in her private suitcase.
They started to build a strong relationship as days passed. Once, Aman visited her to take her things related to Barristry as Bondita felt her secret wasn't safe. Bondita slowly trusted Anirudh and they became good friends.
Kaka wanted them to consummate as soon as possible so that Bondita can give birth and get out of the house soon and Aarya can come back. So he tried to intoxicate them two times but failed to do so because he was caught yelling on the phone by Anirudh. But, what he failed to notice was Anirudh had forgotten Aarya and was completely behind Bondita.
When Som revealed this fact, Kaka properly took note of Bondita and indeed she was more sophisticated and beautiful than Aarya. But, he chose Aarya over Bondita because Bondita every day wore a western outfit on Anirudh's telling whereas Aarya wore sarees despite Anirudh asking her to wear them.
He was a Regressive minded man, so he valued the so-called superstitions, rituals and thought that girls were born to serve, give birth to children. They were never equal to men. He knew his eldest nephew was against this thought of his, but still, he somehow managed to keep Aarya in his side.
Both Anirudh and Bondita were having feelings for each other, but the thought of confessing was difficult for them. Kaka was now shocked that Anirudh was in love with Bondita, more than he used to love Aarya. He had no other way other than to make Anirudh break Bondita.
Months passed by and Anirudh finally confessed his love for Bondita, taking Kaka by shock because he knew Anirudh never confessed his love for Aarya. Bondita also reciprocated Anirudh's feelings and they consummated their marriage. By this time, Anirudh had completely forgotten that he had a first wife.
Bondita broke the news that she was pregnant, a month after they consummated. Anirudh was elated and pampered and showered Bondita with love and presents, which he didn't do when he was with Aarya.
As the pregnancy progressed, the couple found out that they were expecting twins. Anirudh was all the more elated at this news. It was during the 9th month that Kaka got a call from Aarya. He was elated that his Bahu called him and informed her that twins are on the way.
Kaka tried to speak about Aarya to Anirudh but he was busy taking care of Bondita. Even Som and others had started to like Bondita as she was the bold type, unlike Aarya. Bondita was very outspoken and curt. In one such incident, Kaka tried to downplay her confidence but got snubbed.
"Well, I liked you at first, but now I don't know what you have done to my sons that they are siding you always. We are the Zameendars of Tulsipur! Marrying my son to an outcast like you was my big mistake!"
"Well, I belong to the Elite women of Krishna Nagar, the Das Family. I am Bondita Das Roy Choudhary for your information Kaka Sasur Ji, not an outcast. I very well belong to the upper cast, but I don't have the habit of flaunting my wealth and status, unlike you."
"You-"
"Yeah, who said 'We are Zameendars of Tulsipur'? You right? I never said, 'I am Bondita Das, I come from the Elite Das Family of Krishna Nagar'. Did I say so? No, right."
Kaka was totally snubbed as Bondita had a point. Som, Batuk and others snickered at Bondita's curtness. He walked away from there, not able to bear the insult. But, he got an idea and that was throwing out Bondita after she gave birth to the babies.
Two more weeks passed by and Bondita finally gave birth to twins. One was a girl, the other was a boy. Kaka was elated that finally, Bondita can go out. In the evilness of plotting against Bondita, he forgot that he was about to ruin his nephew's life and career.
As Bondita was passing through the study to calm the babies down, Kaka deliberately reminded Anirudh of his first wife, shocking Bondita. She listened to the whole conversation and felt betrayed.
She went back to the room without being noticed and calmed the children down and put them to sleep. They both came inside the room and Anirudh broke the news that he was married already.
"Why did you love me Anirudh? Was it even love?"
"Bondita look-"
"I don't want any explanation Anirudh. You and your whole family will suffer for the betrayal you did. I promise you that."
"You can't do anything Bondita. You are a woman."
"Well, Trilochan Ji, you haven't even seen the real me. There is much more depth to me than you expected."
"Bondita, at least stay till tonight."
"Well, you wanted to father a child for your infertile wife. You got two of them. You should be happy with it."
She picked up the babies in her arms when Kaka stopped her, "These babies now belong to the Roy Choudharys. You have no right over them. Only my Aarya Bahu has right over them."
Bondita was shocked, but she came up with a quick plan and walked off telling herself, "I have one last surprise before I ruin your life Anirudh! Just wait for it." She went to Aman, explained him everything and they discussed what to do. Nothing eventful happened except for Aarya coming back to Tulsipur.
The naming ceremony got over and the time to give gifts for the twins came. Everyone was talking about Bondita when Kaka replied, "I sent her away after she gave birth to the children."
"And yet I am here, to give the whole family a gift."
Everyone turned to look at Bondita who was standing all in her glory. She set foot inside the Mansion and was flanked by guards.
"You are back? If you are here for your rights on Anirudh as well as the babies, then it is a strict no."
"Well, it is not that, I don't want a place in this Mansion. All I wanted to give was these Divorce and Court papers. Now, I will take your nephew and the kids to the lab. They will return soon."
Anirudh was shocked when Bondita gave the Divorce papers with her signature on them.
"Who are you to give me Court papers?"
"I am Barrister Bondita Das, the one who shut down Sona Gachi. Well, you underestimated me Zameendar Sahab. Now, your whole family has to pay for it."
"We are Zameendars! We can't be arrested. We can get out using money."
"Who said that? The Law is the supreme. Not Zameendars. Having a Mansion, two cars, two helpers and a few lands doesn't make you rich."
"You are boasting as if you have more money than us?"
"Yes Zameendar Sahab, I have 3 Mansions bigger than yours, 12 cars, 30 helpers and Z security from the British Government. Doesn't that make me rich? Well, I am the most sought after Barrister in this Country."
"Let's see who wins in the Court."
"Yeah, sure. And look for a Barrister to save your family, Zameendar Sahab. You don't know what has hit you. Ethan, Matt bring Anirudh and the twins."
Kaka tried to intervene but he was stopped by the guards. Anirudh carried the babies to the hospital. After they reached there, Anirudh was taken to the lab for a test. He saw that Bondita was breastfeeding the children and another man was also there. As the babies stopped suckling on her nipples, she unlatched them one by one and gave them to the guy, who played with the kids. He saw Bondita wiping her tears and looking happy with the kids. The kids were happy with her too. Anirudh wiped his tears as he wanted to be that man beside Bondita who would be happy with the kids.
His blood was taken and it was revealed to him that they are doing a DNA test. He once again looked at the woman whom he still loves but has lost her because of his betrayal and Kaka's plotting. Her eyes met his and she gave him a cold yet deadly stare, making him turn his head away. He was asked to go as all the procedures were over.
"Bondita, please listen to me once-"
"No Anirudh, if you ever truly loved me, you would have trusted me instead of your Uncle. You would have said the truth to me when I told you I believe that making a promise to someone is equivalent to emotional blackmail. Yet you stayed mum and you didn't defend me when your Uncle tried to snub me with his words. All I can say is, I loved you truly and you played with my emotions! The Bondita who was never fooled by anyone has been fooled successfully by her ex-husband Anirudh Roy Choudhary, who claims himself to be a Barrister fighting for women's rights in this Society. You were silent even when I thanked you for making me your first choice, but in reality, I was your second choice.You betrayed me, and the whole family will pay for it! I swear! And I will make one more thing clear again! I would like to be someone's first choice, not their second."
Anirudh had tears in his eyes as he was escorted from the hospital back to his Mansion. As he reached there, Kaka and Aarya stood there, waiting for him. He gave the children to Aarya and stormed off, leaving a shocked Kaka behind.
"Anirudh! Anirudh! Wait what happened? Tell me son, I know she-"
"STOP IT KAKA! STOP IT! YOU DON'T KNOW WHAT YOU MADE ME TO DO! NOW I AM A CULPRIT IN FRONT OF HER! YOU MADE IT LOOK LIKE I PLAYED WITH HER FEELINGS WHEN SHE LOVED ME TRULY! I LOVED HER TOO! YOU KNOW WHAT'S REQUIRED FOR A RELATIONSHIP TO LAST? TRUST AND COMMUNICATION! WHICH I FAILED TO DO! HAD I BROKEN THE PROMISE I MADE TO YOU, WE WOULD HAVE BEEN A HAPPY FAMILY TODAY! I WAS A FOOL TO TRUST YOU!" Anirudh yelled, unable to contain his agony. Kaka and Aarya were shocked.
On the other hand, Bondita was equally in pain. She was controlling her tears but she couldn't contain them as Aman and Manyata laid their hands on her shoulder.
"It hurts Aman! Everything hurts! I loved him unconditionally, all he did was to break my trust! How dare he trust his Uncle more than me? He never took my side when his Uncle always tried to snub me. I thought he used to admire me for my defiance and bravery, but no! It was all a ruse! He played with my emotions, made me confess my true feelings for him and then broke me! My kids are away from me! I don't know how will his first wife take care! If he truly loved me, he would have said the truth, took my side. His brothers too sided with me. I can't blame them for their Kaka and their brother."
"Bondita, look. I loved the way you spoke to Trilochan Roy Choudhary when you were at the Mansion. And you are a crying mess. I have never seen you this much broken, he broke your heart for real."
"He broke my trust too."
"Yeah, that's true. I want that sassy Bondita back. Wipe your tears, bring your smug smile back, your evilness back. You're our Little Devil Queen, Bon Bon."
Bondita wiped her tears, did everything as Aman told her to do. She said, "They played with a fire that can never be put out. And that fire burns anything that comes obstructs it's path."
"Now this is the Little Devil Queen I know. Right, Manyata?"
"Yes Aman, she's back. The Little Devil Queen is back!"
Ethan and Matt smirked, as their Sassy Mistress was back. A knock interrupted their happy moment and it was Batuk and Som who came to her doorstep.
"We have just come here to have a word with Bondita Didi."
"Yes. Come in. I can't blame you guys though."
"Well, Didi, all we can say is we were kept in the dark. All we knew was Aarya became infertile, Kaka sent her to London and Dada married a girl who was equal to him in status. We never knew the evil plan of our Uncle, both of us can testify against Kaka."
"Will you keep your word?"
"Yes, we will. Then we will take your leave."
"Sure. Meet you both at the Court."
After Som and Batuk went, The Daa Family flew in, including Sampoorna and Mami. Everyone sat down and Mami spoke out the truth. She told Anirudh wasn't married, liked Bondita a lot, so they came to seek her hand in marriage. Sampoorna nodded in approval, as she was said the same by Munshi.
"Bondita, I know I am Regressive minded, but in this case, I support you with my heart. Tell me what case have you filed against them?"
"A Divorce and a Custody case."
"Meaning?"
"If I win the case against Roy Choudharys, the babies will be ours, and I will not be tied to Anirudh as his wife."
"Okay. Sampoorna, Devoleena and Sundaram will testify against Munshi and Zameendar Babu."
"You will do nothing like that Sampoorna! You will not testify against my father!"
"Who are you to tell me Saurabh? Our marriage happened because of Bondita. She gave the dowry to your greedy mother from her money. That's why we have a happy relationship! And you are asking me to go against her?"
"You can go and marry anyone else, Saurabh. Sampoorna isn't going to care. We are richer than you think and she has more suitors waiting in line."
Saurabh walked away, defeated. Then Bondita asked Kalindi and others to submit their blood samples to the lab so that they can prove to Kaka that Bondita is indeed a part of the family.
Here, Anirudh was guilty of hurting Bondita. Kaka was shocked to the core that Aarya also didn't support him. Two days passed in a blink and Subodh Chatterjee accepted to fight their case. As they entered the Courtroom, they saw that Bondita's side was empty. 5 minutes passed when Bondita came in with Aman, Manyata in her western ensemble. Everyone except Kaka and Subodh stood up and welcomed her.
"Oh, surprising. You've come early. Well, madame, I have to let you know that this is not a women's workplace."
"Oh, really? Well, if it isn't a woman's workplace, why did I win 6 cases? Including the Sona Gachi one? Weren't you my Opposite Barrister in that case?" Asked Bondita, filing her papers and re-arranging the case papers.
People snickered at Subodh. One whispered, "See? He challenged the wrong person as soon as he stepped in. Look how he got snubbed by her."
A
nother whispered, "Yes, yes. He did get snubbed in a similar way that time too. The way she spoke to him casually even when he boasted upon being the most unbeaten Barrister of India."
Subodh's anger was evident on his face, but Bondita didn't care for it. Soon all the people filed in and the Judge came too. Soon, Bondita submitted her case files and the proceedings were started.
"This is a case, where I and my family were cheated upon by the Zameendars of Tulsipur. They lied to us that their eldest son liked me son they had come to seek my hand-in-marriage for their son."
"Objection Your Honor, women are always treated like that. You are the only one who is making a fuss about it."
"Well, I am not Regressive minded as you are. I have always been thought to raise my voice against injustice even if it happens to me."
"So, Your Honor, Zameendar Trilochan and his personal assistant Mr. Premal Munshi paid a visit to my house in my absence and managed to strike a Marriage alliance with my family. I can testify these statements."
"Please proceed."
"Mr and Mrs Sundram Das, please come on to the box. Please narrate to the court what happened that day. Before that, keep your hands on the Geeta and swear that you will tell the truth."
Mama and Mami come to the box and do as Bondita says them to do.
"Your Honor, we were relaxing after a long day of work when we heard a knock on our door. We saw our Samdhi Ji with his Master in front of our house and we welcomed them."
"Then Devoleena went to prepare snacks and tea for them, I cleared our Caste with Zameendar Babu, he accepted our snacks and hostage too."
"Yes, I was serving them tea and snacks when they asked about our caste. He then proceeded to talk about Bondita's alliance to his eldest son, and we also accepted it because the guy was educated and would accept our niece."
"They acted all the time and then broke our niece's heart by telling the actual truth. Even she didn't know."
"Objection Your Honor, do you know how many women are treated like that?"
"Yes, I know, that is why I am taking up this case. This case is on behalf of all the women who have been used for carrying a child and then thrown out of the house."
"Objection overruled."
"To further testify, may I call upon Mr Prosenjit Das, my father and Somnath-Batuk who were also kept in the dark."
All the three testified against Anirudh and Kaka. All Anirudh did was nod his head at every accusation that was thrown at him. He held his head low, feeling guilty of breaking Bondita's heart for real.
Kaka yelled and once again called Bondita an Outcast, he was stopped by Anirudh. Kaka was extremely angry that his plan was flopping, he tried to open his mouth but everyone ignored him.
Bondita proceeded to submit the Divorce and Custody papers and submitted the required proofs for the Custody. The Judge was about give the verdict when Kaka once again interrupted.
"If you tell that you are rich, then why does your family live in a smaller house? Why did they wear simple clothes and not heavy sarees?"
"How dare you question my Granddaughter like that Zameendar Sahab?"
Kalindi entered the Courtroom and everyone stood up in respect of her.
"Wait Thaku Maa. Let me tell him. It was because I stayed there because my aunt needed my family's help. Baba was ill, Maa was on a thirth with Thaku Maa, so we had come there. We asked them to move to a bigger house, they refused because they weren't fond of riches unlike you."
"Kalindi?"
"Kalindi Ji. I belong to the Elite Women of Krishna Nagar. I am the head of the Das Family, Kalindi Das!"
"I don't believe this. Your Honor, these women are lying."
"Barrister Subodh, this is my DNA reports along with the members of Das Family. Drill this report in your client's thick skull."
"Order! Order! Order!"
"With the witness accounts and the evidences submitted, the court declares that Anirudh and Bondita are Divorced officially and the custody of the children goes to Barrister Bondita. For the heinous crime committed by Anirudh and Trilochan of lying and deceit as well as trying to separate the biological mother from her children, they are given a jail sentence of 5 years and Anirudh's Barristry license is revoked by the Court. The court is adjourned."
He banged the wooden handle three times on the table, indicating that the session is over. Bondita was handed over the children by Aarya herself and she begged forgiveness on behalf of her husband and Uncle-In-Law. Bondita forgave her, telling her that she was not at fault, the persons who have been at fault has been sent to jail.
Bondita didn't marry, she set the example of "single mother" to the Society. She also proved that a woman can handle many responsibilities, thus putting an end to the crimes against women.
