Chapter Three: Transfer Student

"Hi! I am Megumi Lorenzo student #21 new classmate niyo. Part ako ng archer varsity,please be nice to me guys" nakangiting bati ako.
Nilibot ko ang mga mata ko sa classroom, karamihan sakanila nakangiti but some of them is naka poker face.
"So miss lorenzo would you like to share some facts about you for us to easily make bond with you?" A girl with short hair and looks intimidating suggested, then she look on our homeroom teacher to ask for permission "If that's okay miss?"
"Yes miss françois if it's fine with miss lorenzo?" our homeroom teacher ask me too
"Sure miss, uhmm I came from Australia all girls high. I'm one of those three exchange varsity student to train here in behalf of our firmer school." I was about to end it there but they seem curious so I continue "Although I live in Australia all of my life I understand tagalog naman for some reasons so don't hesitate to approach meee" ganado kong sabi na ikinangiti ng girl na nagsuggest nito
I gave her a smile in return
"That's pretty nice miss Lorenzo! pero kahit gusto namin na mas makilala ka pa I need to start discussing about the new announcement na kakapost lang sa bulletin board dahil may urgent meeting ako after 10 minutes. you may take the seat number 20"
"yes miss thank---" wait 20?
"uhmm miss I'm student number 21 I think you're mistaken by my seat?" I told her
"oh no sweetheart you need-- I mean you may sit at #20 because of some students in there that can't maintain peace." she said while taking a glance sa last row I mouthed her thankyou and she smiles "am I right mister Montenegro and mister Zeao?" she ask and the room is now full of chuckles
I approach the last row and take my seat.
"Am I hallucinating or some girls did just glared at me?" bulong ko sa sarili ko
"You're not. they just really did hahaha" I heard from a guy in my left side
"Oh hi seatmate! nice to meet you" I said, nagoffer ako ng hand then he gladly takes it
"Welcome in Moisle University, I am Lucas Montenegro." I smile in return and quickly pay attention on our homeroom teacher that is now discussing something.
Bigla akong may naalala at luningon kay lucas "I also have a classmates named lucas in my former school he's such an ass I swear" biro ko agad kahit hindi naman kami talaga close pero natawa siya ng pigil
"You gotta be joking? isa lang dapat ang lucas sa mundo at ako 'yon, nagiisa walang katulad." tatawa tawang saad niya na ikinataas ng kilay ko at sabay na kaming pigil ang pagtawa
"I like your humor huh" nakangiting sabi niya
"I like you too" biro ko na ikinalaki ng mata niya kaya natawa ako
hindi namin napansin na nakatingin na pala saamin ang karamihan including our homeroom teacher.
"Eager to get to know our transferee mister Montenegro? I guess you are, pero mamaya na 'yan ha pag vacant niyo na both of you should listen first."
We said sorry in unison and slightly laugh at each other again before listening to the announcements of our homeroom teacher.
While listening I glance at my right side noticing how loaded my right side seatmate's desk. Full of papers, folders, books, and his laptop. Strange how he isn't paying attention to our homeroom teacher yet didn't got any word about it as if---
"Laito what's the theme again?"
My right side seatmate finally lift his head and fix his tie and glasses.
I almost drop my jaw
'gosh! why is he so pale?! kamukha niya yung dracula sa netflix!'
"Minimal for the color theme and for the event's main theme is kalayaan ng bayan sa iba't ibang larangan." he answers
'Ano daw? kalayaan ng bayan at iba't ibang lakaran? ano yon'
What are they talking about? (╥﹏╥)
Nagcontinue sa pageexplain si ma'am and since wala naman akong maintindihan sa mga sinasabi niya I just use my phone sa ilalim ng desk ko.
"Hey." someone says
Obviously that's not me I am megumi not hey, lol.
"The heck bingi ka ba?" bulong pero pasigaw na dinig ko
I lift my head and notice draco-- I mean my right side seatmate madly staring at me.
"Oh! hi! sorry what is it?" I instantly asked him
He rolled his eyes that makes my eyes widen
Wow how rude?!
"First day aren't you? You can't use your phone while in a class or else--"
"Fine dude kalma I wasn't actually using it naman" I lied then smile but he just rolled his eyes again and go back on typing something in his laptop.
Liar u just open your sms.
I didn't bother him na nor look at him, I keep my eyes infront.
------LAITO'S POV -------
[MORNING BEFORE CLASS~]
"Hey! goodmorning laito" bati ni mia na kakapasok lang sa room.
"Morning, how's your weekend?"
"It was good, anniversary ng parents ko so we stayed in tagaytay for two days. Yours? I heard sinama ka ni amanda sa baguio to celebrate her cousin's debut."
"Oh yeah I know, I already called tito and greet them. I hope they enjoyed their anniversary." sabi ko. tumango lang siya habang nakangiti. "Saan mo pala narinig na magkasama kami ni amanda?" dugtong ko pa
Kumunot ang noo niya na parang nagtataka. "Nevermind" sabi niya at umupo nalang sa pwesto niya
"Mia" I straightened my posture as I heard lucas entering our classroom.
So here's the son of that douchebag.
"Oh lucas! nalift na pala ang suspension mo?" I heard mia's saying
"Oo, namiss mo ba ako?ha? hahahaha"
"sira wag mo na uulitin yon ah! oo namiss kita lalo na yung libre mo every vacant!"
tss.
Tumayo ako at diretsong lumabas ng classroom.
Habang nasa hallway nagring ang cellphone ko
"dad..."
"Finally sinagot mo rin sa wakas. What's on your mind laito?! bakit hindi ka sumama sa business meeting nila amanda? weekend naman 'yon at wala kang ibang aatupagin?! nasisiraan ka na ba?ilang client at investor ang nakuha ng mga Francois!" galit na usal nito sa kabilang linya
"I'm not feeling well."
I turned off my phone and go straight to the bathroom. Napatingin saakin ang mga estudyanteng nagkukumpulan sa loob, Nang makita nila ako dalidali silang lumabas. Lalo lang nadagdagan ang frustrations ko.
Naghilamos nalang ako sa sink.
Paglabas ko nakita kong nagaabang saakin si amanda sa hallway kaya nang makita niya ako eh tumakbo agad siya palapit saakin "Bakit mo sinabi kay mia na kasama kita nung weekend?" diretong tanong ko sakanya. Nawala yung kaninang ngiti na nasa labi niya.
"uhmm ano kasi--"
"Don't do that again."
----MEGUMI'S POV-----
"Hi!" bati ko sa short hair girl na nagtanong kanina saakin while I am introducing myself. Nakaupo pa din ako sa last row and napalingon siya sa likod kaya napansin niya ako.
"Ohh hi megumi, how's your stay in our class? hmm?" nakangiting approach niya saka lumapit na din saakin. Sabay kaming lumabas ng classroom ngayong breaktime na.
Hindi naman pala 'to masungit, ang intimidating lang niya tignan.
"It's fine, everything's fine I love the way our educators approach us. So unlikely from my former school hahaha"
"Really? that's good to hear, by the way may kakilala ka ba dito sa campus?" tanong niya.
"Uhmm sadly wala pa eh kayo palang ang know ko ang name" sagot ko sabay tingin kay lucas
"Sira, anong pangalan lang? normal na malaman mo ang pangalan ng mga tao noh. What I mean is may kaclose ka na ba or kakilala na bago ka pa pumasok dito?" mia says in a soft tone
I am confused what does she mean by close? kapag ba alam mo ang pangalan ng isang tao close na kayo?ganon ba o hinde?
"None, It's my first time here in this country, so I'm afraid I don't know anyone here except my relatives."
"Really? nakakalungkot naman yan pero from now on if gusto mo sabay na lagi tayo kumain sa cafeteria, what do you think?" nakangiting suhestiyon niya
nagulat ako.
How can you be friend with someone this quickly? she's so outgoing and considerate.
mukhang madaldal din.
"Really? yes I would love that! thankyou--"
ano ba name niya? francois ata sinabi ni ma'am kanina...
"Mia. I am Almia Francois, just call me mia hahaha"
"ahh thankyou miaaa" todo ang ngiting sabi ko.
Habang naglalakad sa hallway napatingin ako sa ground kung saan marami ang nagtatakbuhan na estudyante. I think they are college students base on their medical uniforms and may mga naka coat din If I conclude they are taking law.
"Alam mo ba na ang pinakamagaan na perusa sa mga lumalabag sa rules ng school eh ayan ang pagtakbo ng 30 laps sa buong campus ground?" tanong ni mia kaya umiling ako
Wala bang detention? takbo agad?
We're now heading to the gym, I asked her a while ago if pwede niya ako samahan sa gym saglit dahil need ko iconfirm ang registration paper ko as a varsity and she said yes.
We're back to our rules keme topic, nilingon ko siya na nasa gilid ko lang saka nagtanong. "Rules? gaano ba kaimportant ang rules dito?"
"What? rules are rules megumi to maintain an organize and peaceful environment, everyone should follow the rules ofcourse. But in our school it's kind of strange because we don't really have an official rule book." natatawa niyang sabi
"Ahh yeah yeah sorry it's just unusual for me" sa dati ko kasing school walang rules basta makapasa ka okay na. "but the last part mia, what do you mean we doesn't have any rule book? then how are they--" before I continue my question she answered quickly
"Ruler" she said with a smile
"For measuring?" me and my silly question lol, she laughs and cross her hands.
"You're really funny megumi hahahaha I mean kasi walang rules pero nay ruler and that ruler says it all. Mali man o tama sa paningin ng iba if mali para sakanya there will be consequences base on the level and number of times ng mga kasalanan mo"
" I read some online articles na sobrang neat and systematic nga ng university na ito. I guess that person is efficient, by the way who's that ruler?"
"The student council president..." sabi niya
Napatango nalang ako dahil nasa tapat na kami ng office ng archery coach sa entrance ng gym.
"Hintayin mo nalang ako dito meg if natapos ka agad, may pupuntahan lang ako saglit" sabi ni mia
"okay thankyou so much mia, mabilis lang ako promise" sabi ko
"nah take your time girl sa kabilang building pa naman yung pupuntahan ko" that's all she said and I mouthed thankyou and proceed to enter the office.
This office is quite neat, white marbles, organized shelves of trophies and certificate. I stare at the trophy na nakikita ko lang sa tv. The national archery grand winner year 2016.
"It's been almost 5 years since our school got the highest winning place." someone said and there he goes sitting in the right corner of this office
"I am coach John Armiel of Moisle International University. Not just here in the Philippines but also in lots of branch of MU all around the world. Nice to meet you, miss?"
"Megumi Lorenzo of Australia, nice to meet you coach I heard lots of comments about you" I said with a smile
"Oh the transfer student, welcome to Moisle University and welcome to the archery field of MU"
"Thanks coach, I am here to confirm the registration paper--"
"Sorry to interrupt but about that I already processed it and has been approved by the dean. You don't have to worry about your validity anymore. Infact your uniform, tools and equipmens, id, and schedules of practice are already in this box" sabi niya at kinuha ang isang malaking box sa ilalim ng desk niya.
Lumapit ako at ng iabot niya yon eh binuksan ko.
"White-blue colored uniform can only be worn when you are having your weekdays practices. Blue colored only uniform should be used at weekends. Color schemes of the uniforms are important in our university since there's a lot of commoners who wants to enter the campus at weekends and after class hours."
Ang arte may ID naman...
Napatango tango ako sa mga sinasabi niya habang tinitignan kung ano pa ang ibang laman nitong box. bukod sa uniforms and ID may papel at isang keychain ata ito,kinuha ko ang papel at binasa ang mga nakasulat dito.
"Wednesday night,Friday night, and saturday is your schedule of practice. Nandyan be na ang oras at mga kailangan dalhin sa loob ng gym. Ito pala ang susi ng locker mo sa loob ng gym." sabi niya sabay hagis ng susi na kulay green.
nangiwi ako at tumingin sakanya
"Coach I have 12 hours part time job every saturday and sunday may I request na kahit monday morning nalang--" hindi ko na natapos ang sinasabi ko dahil nanlaki ang mata niya na parang nakakita ng multo kaya napatingin ako sa likod ko pero wala namang kakaiba.
"C-coach naman" sabi ko at doon mukhang natauhan siya "Part timer ka? make sure not to share that information to anyone not even in me. Iaassume ko nalang na wala akong narinig," kunot noo ko siyang tinitigan
magtatanong pa sana ako kaso tinataboy na niya ako palabas ng office niya
"Ayan na lahat, sige na baka may klase ka pa. Yung key chain na silver d'yan iopen mo seal yan." thats all he says at sinara na ang pinto sa mismong mukha ko
'problema non? ang weird ah ganito ba talaga mga tao dito?'
'sa classroom may bampira dito may patient ng mental'
napabuga nalang ako ng hangin at hinintay si mia dahil sabay kami maglulunch sabi niya.
"Meggy ano gusto mong kainin?" tanong ni mia habang nakatingun sa menu card ng cafeteria
"I'll order any pasta and a coffee na din."
"seriously?lunch? pasta?coffee?"
"Yep, I don't have a good appetite talaga pag lunch"
"okay since it's your first day here as a welcoming gesture I will treat you a meal but I will add some desserts HAHAHAHA I hope you're not on a diet" excited na sabi niya saka dumiretso sa isang counter na walang nakapila
bukod sa nahihiya ako kasi libre daw niya eh nahiya ako lalo nang mapansin ko na ang haba ng pila ng mga studyante sa tatlong counter tapos parang vip na lumapit lang si mia sa isang counter. I saw them glaring ate as I wall with mia.goddd.
"Mia ano-a-ako na magbayad sa meal ko I can pay naman" I resist my hand to tremble while saying rhis cause I noticed pati yung mga students na nasa tables na eh they have their eyes on me.
"hey girl sabi ko nga diba libre ko take it as mu welcoming treat to you at saka wala akong sinabi na di mo kaya magbayad" she slightly pouted on her last sentence.
'I a--appre--ciate it mia thankyou so much pero why is everyone staring..." it doesn't sound as a question as I shiver.
"oh they must be curious on the beautiful girl beside meee. Please don't mind them, here let's eat" sabi niya at inabot saakin ang tray ng lrder ko pero halos di ko mahawakan kaya yumuko alo tinignan nalang ang lapag
I mentally cursed myself.
I am prone to embarrass myself but gosh not today please.
Nakakatatlong hakbang palang ako habang sinusundan si mia na papaupo ss middle na may vacant table to eat eh may umagaw sa tray na hawak ko.
"Hey seatmate! trembling much? you sick?" napatingala ako ng marinig qng boses ni lucas.
I nodded
hawak niya na ang tray ko ss kaliwang kamsy at yung isa pang tray na I assume is pagkain niya. He's following mia as she walks to the vacant table. Mukhang nagmadali si mia to help me kasi binaba niya agad yung tray niya at naglakad palapit saakin but she stopped when she saw lucas holding my tray.
"Wow such a gentle dog my dear classmate" tatawa tawang sabi ni mia at naglakad na ulit palapit sa mesa namin
umupo ako sa tabi ni mia at si lucas naman sa tapat ko.
"Thankyou" I mouthed and smiles to the both of them.
"Bakit ka nanginginig?malamig ba?" concern na tanong ni mia
"Ahh wala don't mind me maybe sa temperature lang nga hehe you know" I lied
I'm quite anxious when lots of people are paying attention to me and this time everyone is literally eyeing me, it's uncomfortable.
they both nodded pero I can still see how worried
mia is she's staring at my hands na nasa ilalim ng mesa kanina ko pa pala pinipisil to the point na namumula na I smiled on her and stop my hands now it's just trembling
"So uhmm are you guys? friends or something? you don't have to answer of you guys feel uncomfortable" I ask them to divert their attention because I know mia won't stop worrying as she was eyeing me with curious face na nakakadagdag pa ss pagiging anxious ko.
I have a monthly consultation to a professional and that person always says that I have what they called social problem more like an anti-social person. I hate attentions to be exactly.
"Mia and I's family are business partners we knew each other since we we're just a little kiddos but we became friends when we are in jhs" lucas says as he open his incan drink
"When would you stop drinking beers on our class hour?" mia suddenly burst
"kalma almia break time ngayon hindi class hours" tatawa tawang sagot ni mia
"Is that even possible na bibigayan ka nila ng beer for you to drink? I can't believe this" tanong ko na may pagkabulol pa sa tagalog
natawa sila ng sabay that made me curse myself silently.
'hindi na talagq ako magtatry ng tagalog sentence hmp!'
"Yes pwede yon kainting pacute lang niya doon sa counter pwede na siya makakuha ng kahit ilang beers pero pag nahuli yan nako ewan ko lang ilang laps ang tatakbuhin niya sa school grounds" mia mocks lucas
"Ayos lang, ahh meg you want?" alok ni lucas sa hawak niyang beer na ikinataaa ko "Drink a littlw so we can run together" natawa ako lalo and he also laughs as hard as I am,napa face palm naman si mia at kumain nalang.
