It started with Jungkoook.
Probably cause he was the youngest of them, the baby alpha, so he got away with a lot more, and he had a lot less control over his inner alpha.
BTS was made of 7 alpha's, everybody knew that. It was also widely known that BTS had two packs in its group, the maknae line making up one pack, and Seokjin, Yoongi and Hoseok making up the other one, with Namjoon being part of neither.
It was something that had just naturally happened, and when both packs had gone to reach a hand out to Namjoon, to offer him a space with them, the rapper had just said that he wasn't really that into alpha's.
It was weird, mainly cause Namjoon didn't act like somebody who wasn't into alpha's, but none of them pushed him on it. They were not in the business to try and decide Namjoon's sexuality for him, he was old enough to do that himself, and if he was trying to figure himself out, he probably didn't need their meddling.
So... life just went on, with two packs for 3 alpha's each, and Namjoon being happy alone.
Maybe a full alpha pack wasn't the norm, but both groups were happy as they were, which was the most important part of love.
Or maybe... the maknae line was less happy than they would admit. Where the hyungline had reached out to Namjoon, to see if it could work, the maknaeline had done it cause they loved him. Some of them like Taehyung was better at denying it, while others like Jungkook, were so bad at hiding it, that there was a joke in the fandom that Jungkook would leave them all for Namjoon.
It was a joke they had all laughed at, but only the maknae line understood exactly how much Jungkook was willing to do for Namjoon, how much all of them were willing to do for Namjoon. They might not leave each other for him, but pretty much everything else was still on the table as an option.
Luckily for them, even if Namjoon was not attracted to alpha's, he still let the maknae line push for things he probably shouldn't have.
It was never sexual, none of them would ever push something like that without Namjoon's consent, they were brats, but not sexual predators, it was more... pushing themselves into Namjoon's space, hugs, cuddling and everything else.
That was how it started.
Ruts were different for all alphas, Jungkook's were a none sexual rut. Luckily for him, since his entire pack was alphas, his ruts tended to be very short, but he was also a damn whiny baby during them. Especially when the rest of his pack were busy doing something else, unable to just be home and pay attention to him.
So yes, Jungkook was an attention-hungry brat when he was in rut. Somehow more than he normally was. That was why he was full-on pouting, his alpha scent heavy and unhappy in the air, filled with despair as he made his way to Namjoon's home studio.
Only 3 people were home, Jungkook because of his rut, Yoongi sleeping in his own nest, and Namjoon who had been sick for the last two days.
Of course, just cause Namjoon was sick didn't mean that he was actually relaxing, lying in bed and drinking tea so he could get healthy. No Namjoon was in his studio working, like the workaholic he was. They used to tease him by saying it was his inner alpha who wanted to be able to provide. Of course, they had quickly stopped when it became very clear that Namjoon was extremely uncomfortable with that line of teasing. Teasing was only fun when Namjoon got shy and embarrassed, not when he got uncomfortable.
"Joooonie." Jungkook knew that Namjoon always let him push just a little more when the baby alpha was in rut, and with nobody, home to see it, he fully intended to take advantage of that, Namjoon might never love them in the way he craved, but he was not too proud to take what was in front of him and basically offered.
"Has it already gotten bad?" Namjoon's voice was soft, and his scent, always so soft and almost unable to be smelled made Jungkook relax, as he just whined in the back of his throat.
Words were hard, especially when Namjoon swirled his chair around, opening his arms to offer Jungkook a hug. To offer him some safety for the drag and tear of his rut. Just cause it was non-sexual, didn't mean that it wasn't just as strong as so many other ruts people had.
Diving for Namjoon, Jungkook were first able to really relax when the rapper's arms closed around him, holding him close, "relax, deep breathes, I know it hurts, but it isn't gonna help anybody when you are this much of a mess."
Namjoon always understood exactly what it was that Jungkook needed, in a way that Jungkook couldn't explain. Namjoon was not even meant to be able to stand Jungkook close to him, alpha's never liked other alpha's who were in rut, unless they were mated, even the rest of the Hyungline, no matter how close they were, couldn't stand when Jungkook got to close them near rut, that was the norm.
Namjoon was just very... abnormal.
"When are they coming home?" Namjoon wear scent blockers, so there was so little of his scent that Jungkook could actually smell, but that didn't stop him from burying his face in Namjoon's neck trying to get as much of it inside of his nostrils as possible.
Namjoon's scent gland on his neck was much smaller than that of a regular alpha, but the older man had told them that it was just how he was born, but part of Jungkook that was so desperate for more of that sweet scent, couldn't help, but wonder if it wasn't from overuse of scent blockers.
"They will be home in a few hours don't worry, I am sure they are missing you as well, baby, do you wanna stay with me while we wait?" the deep voice was still there, but Namjoon somehow managed to pitch the tone soft enough that it felt like a hug.
"Please..." Jungkook was far from small, but when he was in Namjoon's lap he managed to feel like he was nothing more than the tiny bunny that fans liked to call him.
He didn't need to say more than that, Namjoon just understood what he meant without anything more. Swirling his chair back so he could focus on his computer, he just let the baby alpha sit on his lap, cuddled close to his chest "say we need to go lay down in your nest until they come home."
That was normally what Jungkook would do if nobody was home with him, it was also the most expected from alphas like him. After all, cuddling close and breathing in the scent of another alpha should not work in calming him down, especially somebody he wasn't mated with.
Then again, even if Jungkook logically knew that Namjoon was an alpha, but it didn't stop him from thinking that his scent didn't fit an alpha. Namjoon's scent was that of sweet summer peaches, always making Jungkook think of being warm and happy during the summer. Soaking up the rays of sun, closing his eyes and just listening, as his packs and best friends enjoyed their time around him.
"Happy here." Jungkook nosed at Namjoon's scent gland again with closed eyes, he wasn't lying, he was warm and comfortable on Namjoon's lap. Happy, atleast the closest he could be too happy without his pack around him.
Namjoon just giggled at him, showing how comfortable the other alpha was in return. Namjoon only let the sweeter cute side of himself show when he was comfortable about. It was almost like he was scared of showing their fans the sweet side of him. The cute side of him. Seemingly fearing that they would no longer take him serious as an alpha.
It saddened Jungkook, but atleast Namjoon could show that side off when it was just them, and it was nice to know that Namjoon trusted them just as much as they trusted him, and felt comfortable and happy with them.
Then something happened as Namjoon started working, as he so often did, at times taking short breaks to pet Jungkook's hair and make sure he was comfortable. They didn't need to talk, they just needed to be close, to relax together.
That was when Namjoon might have relaxed just a little too much, as he started to purr. Not the growly purr that came from alpha's, not even the middle thing that betas could do, but a real purr.
A purr that could only be done by omegas.
The thing was that the purrs and growls alphas, omegas and betas made were not some forms of oh you have to do this if you are this subgender. No, it was biology, the vocal cords deep in peoples throats which were the ones making the sounds were different for different sub genders.
The throaty growly purr when alphas were happy was their specific sound.
The sound Namjoon was making, that specific purr in the back of his throat, was simply not something alpha's should be capable of doing. So how the hell was Namjoon, an alpha, making omega sounds?
At first, Jungkook hadn't even noticed it, he was just so zoned out, enjoying the hugs and comfort, plus the tiny part of Namjoon's scent he could get.
He didn't know how long it actually took him to notice, but when he did, it was all he could focus on. Jungkook was not proud of it, but it took him a while to actually figure out what it was going on. All of his close friends outside of BamBam were alphas or betas, so the purr was something he heard in movies more than anything (and from fans who were overstepping his personal space, but he liked to block that out of his mind and never think about it. It was better that way.)
Namjoon was purring.
An omega purr.
Namjoon, the alpha who was so often nothing like an alpha, was purring like an omega, something he shouldn't be capable of doing.
Jungkook's poor head was confused as he tried to understand what that meant.
He was so... comfortable. It was hard to think.
In the end, he must have fallen asleep, because the next thing he could remember was being carried to the nest by Namjoon, greeted by the rest of his pack, who tried to make the older alpha stay, only for Namjoon to turn it down, telling them to look after Jungkook before he left.
Taking that wonderful peach scent with him, that had seemingly gotten just a tiny pit stronger with how much time Jungkook had spent on his lap.
Peach scent. A scent that wasn't normal for an alpha, but was very normal and on point for an omega.
"Namjoon is an omega." even tho rut was still going through his body, Jungkook had never felt more awake, as he stared at his two mates "he isn't an alpha! He is an omega! That is why he has always felt different from everybody else." Jungkook couldn't stop the dreamy tone in his voice, as he really thought about what it meant.
This changed everything, didn't it? It had to! Maybe it even meant that they had a chance now. He was doing his best to not think about exactly what it meant that Namjoon was hiding it from them, but atleast Namjoon hadn't tried to build a romantic relationship with them based on a lie, that had to count for something right?
"I think you are a little too lost in your rut babe?" Jimin laughed, but his voice was a little strained. Showing that he clearly didn't want to think about it too much. That letting himself take in Jungkook's words would not lead him to a good place.
After all, it would most likely lead him to have hope.
Hope that neither of them was sure that they could handle having.
Jungkook was not having any of it, eyes wide as his attention darted between them "I am not kidding! I heard him purr! A real purr! He is an omega!"
"Namjoon? Tall, broad? With thigh's that could and really should crush my head like a watermelon? That Namjoon?" Taehyung sounded just as disbelieving as Jimin, as he reached out to pull Jungkook into a hug "let's get you through your rut, you will feel better afterwards, you are being delusional Kookie. It's gonna be okay."
In his rut, Jungkook just got more frustrated when they didn't listen to him, seemingly more than happy just... thinking he was being weird, or that he was going crazy from his rut.
Jungkook was going crazy, there was no doubt about it, but the reason he was going crazy was because he had found out that Namjoon, the man he had a huge crush on for years, was not the alpha he had said, but an omega hiding as an alpha! What kind of k-drama had he found himself in?
It took Jungkook more than a few attempts to actually convince the two other alpha's that he wasn't crazy, that it was actually true.
When Jungkook's rut ended almost 24 hours later, the three of them were just lying in the big king-sized bed they used as a nest, staring up into the ceiling "so an omega?" That was Taehyung, lying on Jungkook's left, voice both in awe and a little confused, a feeling Jungkook could understand.
"Yeah... he has the cutest purr." Jungkook felt calmer in his mind as he intertwined his fingers with both of his mates. Now without being in rut, he could really think about the moment he had shared with Namjoon. He could think about that cute little sound, that little sound that changed everything.
Did all omega's purr's sound so cute? Or were Namjoon just special? Jungkook liked to believe that Namjoon was just special, after all, he was always special in Jungkook's mind.
"What do we do now?" Jimin had curled around so he was resting his head on Jungkook's shoulder.
They were always a mess when they cuddled, and Jimin's point was very real, what could they do now? So Namjoon was an omega (they finally believed him), but he hadn't told them, so it didn't really change much.
"We don't know why he is hiding it." Taehyung's voice was more sombre now "there could many reasons, and we can't just walk up to him and go 'hey we know you are an omega, now please love us.'"
Jungkook hated exactly how much that made sense, he wanted to just be able to love Namjoon. Things were never that easy when it came to BTS.
"Maybe we can slowly show him that we don't mind that he is an omega. He likes when we treat him more like an omega, even if we didn't notice it. Hugs and cheek kisses are something he always likes. Maybe not tell him specifically, but let small things out about omegas in general. Not at him, but just small things like, how we would love an omega in our pack, and how omegas are always so sweet. Small things to make him feel more comfortable, maybe that way he will come to trust us, know that we accept him, and tell us ourselves." Jimin really was a lot more clever than everybody gave him credit for, and his little speech ended with him getting attacked with hugs and kisses by his two other alpha mates, showing him exactly how much they loved him and thought he was a clever genius.
And that was how it started.
Mission show Namjoon that he was loved and didn't have to hide from them.
With them finding out his secret, there were a few things that Jungkook hadn't thought about, that suddenly made sense. There were parts of Namjoon that had always been a mystery, well no not a mystery, but things that didn't make sense, things that the more you thought about it, the more it just hurt poor Jungkook's head.
Now knowing that Namjoon was actually an omega, that explained so much. Namjoon said he wasn't attracted to alpha's, which they had accepted.
No matter if Namjoon was an omega or an alpha, not being attracted to alphas were completely fine, but then Namjoon would do something or say something that really made Jungkook question if he really wasn't into alphas.
There was a heat in his eyes at times when he looked at all three of them, which made all of them question everything. When he had been an alpha it was easier to deny, maybe they were just seeing things that weren't real, but with him being an omega it made sense.
If Namjoon wanted to hide his subgender, he couldn't get romantically involved with anybody, they would instantly realise that he wasn't what he pretended to be! It made sense, it gave them hope, but they were pieces, pieces that hopefully Namjoon would tell them, that he would feel comfortable, and then they would all live happily to the end of their days.
Of course, logically speaking, it would probably not be that easy, but Jungkook could dream.
At least they had hope for the first time in so long, that had to count for something! That was what they were hoping.
And so started the mission to mission.
All three of them slowly pushed to see how much Namjoon would allow them. Always pulling back or stopping if Namjoon showed any sign that he wasn't comfortable, but it just... never came.
Namjoon would let them do pretty much anything, and he never looked uncomfortable, if anything he just looked sated. The lines of stress that often marred his pretty features would be gone when one of them would press themselves into his personal space and demand attention.
He wouldn't stat anything or come to them himself, it was like he wouldn't even notice that he was stressed, that he wanted somebody close to him. It was... strange.
But it was a good sign, at least that was what the three of them decided, not just cause Namjoon didn't seem to mind, but because it seemed to make him happy. He was relaxed and happy.
Taehyung had to fight himself to not do anything the first time he heard Namjoon's cute little omega purr, they had been cuddling in the maknae lines nest. With the two others still in the studio working with Yoongi on some lyrics, Taehyung had found it easy to drag Namjoon to the nest with puppy eyes, promising that they could bring his laptop so he could work while cuddling.
Namjoon had instantly folded, allowing himself to be dragged into the nest with his laptop, but it never even got used, just stood open on the side table wasting power as the two of them cuddled.
Normally Taehyung would let Namjoon be the big spoon, the reason not cause he himself had a specific attachment for being the little spoon, but cause he didn't want to offend the alpha side of Namjoon. Now it was something else, now Taehyung knew that Namjoon was an omega. Of course, omegas could be the big spoon if they wanted to, Taehyung wasn't a sexist prick, but he felt that he should atleast try the little Joon spoon technique first.
So what if Namjoon was taller than him? Tall people could be cute little spoons as well, and Namjoon just... didn't question it, when Taehyung positioned them how he wanted, Namjoon tensed for a short moment, before relaxing and letting him do what he wanted, seemingly trusting Taehyung.
Taehyung was sure that he would say something, but instead, Namjoon just relaxed. They kept their talking to an almost whisper, and it didn't take much for Namjoon to almost fall asleep.
Namjoon... almost fell asleep.
That was crazy to Taehyung, Namjoon rarely if ever fell asleep around them, always the one to make sure that they. Now he was slurring his whispered words halfway through a sentence as he struggled to stay awake, how was Taehyung this lucky?
That would have been enough, more than enough, for Taehyung to be happy, to love every moment of it, but then there was the purr. Again, just as Jungkook had explained it, it didn't seem as if Namjoon was really aware of exactly what he was doing, he was tired and almost asleep that it just came out.
Again, it suddenly made so much more sense why Namjoon would be avoiding sleeping close to them, if this was something he normally did while sleeping, while comfortable, yeah it was a risk to sleep close to them.
Then it had to be a sign that suddenly Namjoon was feeling comfortable enough to do it.
Taehyung couldn't stop the matching low growl in his own throat from workings it's way up his throat, luckily it wasn't enough to wake Namjoon from his pretty much asleep form.
Seemingly Namjoon really liked being the little spoon, and Taheyung was more than willing to let him be the little spoon for the rest of their lives, especially if it would make him never stop purring. Of course, he didn't say anything when Namjoon woke up, acting like nothing, not to call him out and make him uncomfortable.
Luckily it seemed that Namjoon didn't catch on, but Taehyung was more in love than ever. He didn't know that he could possibly be more in love with Namjoon, but apperently he could. It was now easy for Taehyung to feel exactly the same thing Jungkook had, a wish to never leave him alone, and hope for the future.
Finally, it was Jimin's turn to hear the little purr that changed everything for them.
Jimin before finding out that Namjoon were an omega, liked to tease the other two of his mates that Namjoon liked him the best since Jimin's small stature made him less threatening to another alpha. Now that Namjoon was not an alpha, but an omega, he was suddenly feeling a lot more self-conscious about their size difference.
If Taehyung and Jungkook were right, that NAmjoon actually did want them, but he had some hangups, would he still want Jimin as well? While Jungkook and Taehyung were shorter than Namjoon, they weren't as much shorter than him as Jimin was.
It was feelings he was struggling with, but unable to really express.
He would have been more than happy to burn in with them, and never talk about it, his prefered way of dealing with issues, but Namjoon of all people were always the first to notice when Jimin's mind turned dark.
Unsure of how to go about what he and his mates planned, Jimin didn't need to figure it out, as Namjoon came to him, holding him back after practice waving off the rest of BTS when they turned to wait for them.
"Did you need something?" Jimin had no idea why he was feeling so shy, Namjoon normally never left him feeling this way, but there was just something about the fact that he knew Namjoon's secret that made Jimin hesitate and feel weird, unable to look Namjoon in the eyes.
Maybe he just wasn't enough of an alpha for Namjoon?
Namjoon didn't answer him, instead just pulling him into a tight hug "I don't know what is going on in your head, but it is going to be okay I promise." it wasn't the first time that Namjoon said something like that to him, it was no joke, that Namjoon were always the first one to realise that something was wrong with Jimin.
He was just always so perfect for them.
Jimin didn#t want to cry, he really didn#t want to cry in front of Namjoon, but he was really close as he asked in a soft voice "Can I have a hug_?"
Namjoon didn't hesitate as he wrapped Jimin up in his long sturdy arms "always."
Maybe Jimin cried, but they didn't talk about it, it was better that way. Namjoon just understood him without even having to try, and that was why the omega was amazing.
Jimin didn't know how long they stood there, just hugging, all he knew was that at some point, the start of a purr could be heard from Namjoon's throat before it quickly stopped again.
Had he not known what he was listening for, it was very likely that Jimin would have missed it. He wondered how many times before that had happened, where NAmjoon would have started to purr, only to stop before they caught on, scared that they would notice.
Fuck he really was an omega.
That just made Jimin cry more, getting all his confused feelings off his chest.
All three alphas were committed after that, all three convinced that if they could just prove that they were serious, that they meant it, then Namjoon would love them in return, and trust them with his secret.
There was also one more thing, with every moment days that passed since they could feel the Namjoon shaped hole in their pack that was just begging to be filled. It used to be easier to ignore, but now every day made it more and more clear, that it was something they could no longer ignore. Something that they could only feel grow.
So they started part two of their plan, small little compliments to both omegas and to Namjoon.
There was just one problem, none of them had ever been good at stealth, so their little comments were less just random comments and ended up much more like call out's.
They... were not good at restrains, and they should probably have seen it coming when a near desperate Namjoon herded them into a room, frustrated tears flowing down his cheeks that he was seemingly unable to stop and a terrified look in his eyes.
"What do you want? I will give you anything I swear, just don't tell the media! I beg you please!"
Maybe... they had fucked up.
