𝐂𝐇𝐀𝐏𝐓𝐄𝐑  𝟎𝟎𝟖

𝐭𝐮𝐦𝐨𝐫 𝐭𝐢𝐦𝐞

season one, five and six

▅▅▅▅▅▅▅▅▅▅▅▅▅▅▅˚.🩺༄¸

𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐏𝐀𝐑𝐓𝐘 was in full swing by the time julie arrived. doctors and nurses were talking and dancing all around her and the dark haired woman smiled when she spotted cristina in the crowd.

she wondered if meredith knew about the scale of this party but decided not to dwell on it as she moved her body through the people. she was wearing the red dress as laura'd requested and she couldn't help but smile when tyler came up to her telling her she looked hot.

"girl, you look hot." tyler stated as he came to a stop in front of her. "so? when's the date arriving?" he added as he sipped his drink while raising a brow at her.

"you know about that, huh?" she questioned, returning the raised brow. her hand moving to steal a bottle of alcohol from a drunk woman that passed by.

the nurse just smiled with a shrug, "i know everything." he stated with a wink before leaning in, "just a little tip, stop talking so loud if you don't want everyone to know what you're talking about."

julie scoffed playfully as tyler walked away from her, "i don't talk that loud." she muttered to herself before an arm was swung over her shoulder.

"puppy! you made it!" cristina yelled, the bottle of booze in her hand swinging dangerously close to julie's face.

an amused smile took over the campbell woman's face as she returned cristina's hug, careful not to spill her own bottle. "i did!"

in sync, the two pulled back from the hug and took a swing from their bottles, their faces scrunching up at the taste of alcohol running down their throats.

"what do you have?" cristina questioned as she gestured to her bottle.

julie scrunched up her face as she glanced down reading, "tequila. you?"

"bacardi."

the two women shared a look before wordlessly switching bottles. "better."

"much better."

𝐂𝐑𝐈𝐒𝐓𝐈𝐍𝐀 𝐀𝐍𝐃 𝐉𝐔𝐋𝐈𝐄 were dancing on top of a table by the time meredith joined them, a tequila bottle in her hand too. the three friends cheered and laughed as they twirled around each other.

in the back of her drunken mind, julie wished they had more moments like this. moments on which they were carefree. moments on which they could allow themselves to have fun. but for no money in the world would she give up on her job, which she'd grown to absolutely love.

a giggle came from her as cristina almost tripped, the women too drunk to really think about the danger they put themselves in. not that they would care while they were sober either.

"i have to pee!" julie shouted at them as she clumsily made her way off the table, cristina and meredith cheering as she stood with both feet on the ground.

the intern made her way through the party, occasionally saying hey to the people whose faces she recognized. she came to a stop as she passed the kitchen, her feet taking her a couple of steps back as she stood in front of the doorframe, her eyes on the chips.

her hands instantly reached for the bowl that contained the salt chips. she cradled the bowl to her chest before turning and stumbling on her heels, starting off towards the bathroom again.

"hey pretty girl." laura bennet said as she came to stop in front of her date who looked up with wide eyes. chuckles left the attending's lips as julie slowly continued to push the handful of chips in her mouth.

"hey." julie mumbled in response, smiling with her mouth, full of chips, closed. even in her drunken state, she knew not to open her mouth with food inside.

the brunette smiled as she scanned her over, "you look amazing." she stated with a little grin.

after chewing, julie swallowed her chips before she properly looked at her date, her eyes widening, "you look hot." and laura bennet did in fact look hot. a tight navy blue dress hugged her curves as her hair was falling loosely over her shoulders. "chips?" the intern added holding up the bowl towards the woman.

"yes." she said, her hand reaching for the salty snack before she nodded her head towards the garden. "come on, lets go find a place a little more quiet." she suggested but not before stealing someone else's tequila bottle.

"wait! i have to pee!"

𝐆𝐈𝐆𝐆𝐋𝐄𝐒 could be heard from around the corner as julie and laura pressed their bodies against the wall, hands over each other's mouth to try and keep quiet only to fail miserably as they lowered their hands whenever they found something funny again.

"you know i saw you running from me, right?" bailey questioned as she stood in front of the two drunk women with her hands on her hips. "and you also know i've been standing here for 5 minutes watching you giggle like little bafoons?" she added making them go silent.

the moment bailey raised one eyebrow, julie burst out laughing making laura try to press her lips together but failing as she too began laughing just at the sound of her date's laugh.

"morons." bailey muttered before shooting the attending one last glare and turning around, back to the party.

"i think she saw us." laura muttered when bailey turned the corner, julie laughing at the statement. she chuckled as she put her hand out to lean against a closet in the hall for support. the brunette laughing at her for almost falling over. "you're gorgeous, do you know that?" laura spoke up after their laughter had died down.

julie turned to look at her, their faces close as she responded. "you are gorgeous too." she said, her words slurring slightly.

"no-" laura said moving to stand so julie's body was pressed into the wall, "-you don't understand. you are gorgeous." the attending slurred her hands holding julie's face.

a smile appeared on her lips as she moved forward, her lips pressing against laura's, who gladly returned the kiss.

"𝐔𝐆𝐇!" julie huffed as she turned in her bed, the sunlight peaking through the blinds and shining directly into her eyes. slowly, after ignoring the emptiness in her head, she opened one eye realizing this wasn't her bed.

a headache rushed through her head as she moved to lean on her elbows, one eye shut to adjust to the bright light and the other scanning the room. a surprised sound came from the back of her throat as she eyed the room she was in. it was fancy. and she hadn't seen it before.

sitting up, she rubbed her temples with her fingers. her mind was going too slow for her liking, the alcohol still having it's effects. her eyes grew wide as her fingers stilled. quickly she moved away the blankets covering her, a sigh of relief escaping her as she finally felt the material of the large t-shirt when she saw it.

a pained groan left her lips as her head shot towards the door, footsteps approaching. she had her strong suspicions of who'd be coming through the door but still watched wearily as the doorknob turned.

laura bennet walked in with a smile, a tray in her hands. julie's mouth watered at the sight of food. "good morning." laura stated with a grin.

julie should've known this is where she would end up when she opened up the last bottle she remembered. she didn't know if that had in fact been her last bottle but it didn't matter now. now, the only thing she cared about was the food being placed in front of her. "morning." the intern greeted back with a matching smile. "you know you didn't have to do this, right?" she questioned as she eyed the brunette from the corner of her eye before taking a bite. "oh, my- this is good-" she suddenly exclaimed as she pointed towards the pancakes with her fork.

laura laughed as she took a seat on her own queen sized bed. "it's the least i could do when the last time we were in this situation you reset your alarm for me." she stated smiling as julie laughed while popping some blueberries in her mouth.

"your room is gorgeous by the way, much nicer than mine, as i'm sure you know."  she said as she looked around the room. it was large, the bed was in the middle of the room, a large closet covering the entirety of the wall on her left. the wall was painted a light blue, the black photo frames creating a beautiful contrast.

"thank you." the attending said moving to steal a few raspberries. "besides, i don't think your apartment is so bad." she said. julie's head turned towards her, a brow lifted as she made a deadpan expression. laura laughed as she held up her hands in surrender, "alright, i really did like your room, very cozy, but the rest is a bit-"

"poor?" julie filled in.

an awkward expression came on laura's face as she nodded slightly, julie just chuckling while popping a strawberry in her mouth. "sorry." laura said.

"don't be, i know it's not as fancy of a place as this is." she gesturing around them. "but alex and i came from a long, long way so we don't have high standards. it's enough for us, at least for now." she explained.

"long way?" laura questioned as she made herself comfortable on her bed.

julie hummed, "foster care and stuff. rough stuff. i'll tell you about it some other time." she said. "maybe, on another date?" she asked as she eyed laura nervously.

a smile lit up the attending's face as she leaned over to place a kiss on her lips. "another date." she said with a nod and smile before moving away. "you have the early shift by the way."

"shit."

"𝐇𝐄𝐘." julie greeted as she walked up to alex who was standing at the nursing station. "you okay?" she questioned when she saw his frown.

"i got a drug addict as a patient last night." he said, his eyes not leaving the chart in his hands. a look of understanding crossed the girl's features before she moved towards her best friend. her arms wrapped around him and she smiled softly when she felt his chin resting on the top of her head. "thank you." he muttered as he pat her head, a sign for her to pull away.

"you're welcome." she said as she turned to grab the chart of the patient she was assigned to. she sighed as she realized bailey wasn't speaking to her.

she was about to walk away from him when his voice stopped her, "hey, if you don't come home, could you sent a text? like old times? thought you might've gotten murdered." he said.

she turned with a soft smile, "sure, sorry." she frowned as she eyed the side of his face. he was glancing at her and she couldn't help but feel like he needed to tell her something. "alex?" she asked expectingly.

"i have to tell you something." alex said as he gestured for her to walk with him. "people know about you and bennet. a lot of people." he said with a low voice, her head snapping towards him. "you're the intern full on flirting with an attending. i think you should back off a little. or at least be more sneaky." he continued as he whispered. "before someone tells the chief."

with that he walked away and julie cursed to herself. how could it be that she hadn't thought of that? of what others would think? she cursed under her breath as she realized alex was right. she didn't want her personal life to be the talk of the hospital. she knew the chief couldn't kick her out for a hook up, he wouldn't but she could receive a ton of backlash because of it.

she sighed as she remembered she had to meet with the other interns and bailey. with a small groan she moved in the same direction as alex.

"alex! wait!"

julie inwardly cringed as bailey gave her a side eye when she joined her resident and fellow interns. her eyes shot towards alex who just had an 'i told you so' look on his face. she just sighed and inwardly cursed herself before moving along with the others.

the interns and bailey passed the staircase, cristina and meredith joining them. "cristina, you're late." bailey said, completely ignoring meredith making julie frown.

the dark haired girl subtly moved next to her blonde friend at the end of the group, "what's going on?" she questioned.

"she caught me and derek last night." meredith told her in a hushed whisper.

"oh thank god." julie sighed out before she cringed, "i'm sorry-" she apologized as she turned to her friend who was looking at her with a raised brow. "but you're not the only one." she tried to comfort while at the same time trying to make herself feel better by telling herself meredith was in the same boat as her.

"bennet?"

before julie could reply, bailey spoke up loudly, interrupting their hushed conversation. "when we walk in this door, you will maintain decorum. you will not laugh, vomit, or drop your jaw. are we understood?" bailey said.

julie shared a confused look with cristina before following the others into the room. julie had to clench her jaw to make sure her expression didn't reveal her shock when she caught a glimpse of their patient.

"good morning, ms connors." dr. bailey greeted the woman.

julie glanced at the giant tumor on the woman's side and couldn't help but wonder why it took the woman so long to come to the hospital. she felt bad for ms connors too. she knew it couldn't have been easy coming here in the first place and to have all these doctors look at you as if you were some kind of freak must be terribly frustrating.

to her surprise, alex was the one to begin speaking. "good morning, annie. how are you? this is dr. bailey, and these are my fellow interns." he introduced with a kind smile making julie raise a brow. since when is he ... nice?

"dr. karev, we refer to patients as 'mister'-" bailey spoke up only to be interrupted by annie connors.

"i told him to call me 'annie". 'ms connors' makes me feel old and fat, which i am, but why feel that way?" she told the resident, bailey smiling at her.

"good morning." the sound of burke's voice sounded, the inters who stood by the door moving aside for the man.

"annie, this is dr. burke. awesome surgeon." alex said. julie had to do her best to not roll her eyes and instead looked at cristina who had her eyes on burke. julie's eyes narrowed as she glanced between the cardio attending and her friend.

her attention went back toward bailey when she spoke up. "dr. karev." she said hinting for him to present the case.

"oh! annie connors is a 43-year-old woman who presented last night with progressive shortness of breath for the past three months. found to have a very large tumor of unknown origin pressed against her diaphragm. stable vital signs. scheduled for ct this morning, sir."

"thank you, dr. karev." burke said before turning towards annie, "are you at all claustrophobic?" he asked her.

"i've been housebound for the last year. how claustrophobic could i be?" annie responded.

"all right then, dr. stevens is going to take you up for a ct. i'll give us a better look at the tumor and we'll know how to proceed from there." burke informed annie.

"could someone tell my mom?" annie asked. "she'll worry if she gets back and i'm not here." she said, burke assuring her that they could do that. "and would it be possible for alex to take me instead? i mean, he's, he's just so fun to look at."

julie's brows raised as she glanced at her best friend. she knew he was hot but for some reason the comment made her slightly uncomfortable. alex shot her a smug look and smiled charmingly at annie who told her it was alright before walking out.

"campbell, you're on this too." bailey said making julie inwardly cheer knowing this was going to be a great surgery to watch.

bailey and the others moved out and right before bailey stepped out the door, she side stepped towards julie. "we need to talk." she told her making julie nod aggressively, a nervous smile on her lips.

the nervous smile disappeared once bailey did and she stepped towards annie. "hello, i'm julianna campbell but you can call me julie." she introduced, holding her hand out for annie to shake.

"oh, nice to meet you. alex told me about you." annie said while shaking her hand. alex groaned as julie smirked.

"really? all good things i hope." she said, her eyes going to alex who was looking at her with an annoyed expression.

"more than good."

"𝐖𝐄'𝐑𝐄 𝐑𝐄𝐀𝐃𝐘, 𝐀𝐋𝐄𝐗." julie informed through the speaker, her eyes on the screens as alex prepped annie for the scan.

her attention went to one of the two men controlling the ct machine, "here, you can sit if you want." he offered as he moved to stand up from his seat.

"oh no, no. it's alright." she refused with a smile.

"i'm david brown." he introduced holding his hand out for her to shake.

"julianna campbell." she said, shaking his hand. their conversation was interrupted by alex who walked into the room, him eyeing his pager.

"jules? you have another battery?" he questioned as he looked at her.

she frowned, "why would i have a battery?" she asked.

"unbelievable." the other tech guy spoke up making the other three turn towards the scan.

"oh, i know, right?" alex said and julie turned to look at him.

"i've never seen anything like this." the man said as he showed the different scans. "god."

alex hummed, "yeah, what i don't understand is how a person lets it get like that. i mean, man, that is a whole lot of nasty."

"alex." julie scolded. "don't be rude, you don't know anything." she said making him roll her eyes at him.

"yeah, maybe she's afraid of doctors, poor thing." david said, his eyes glancing towards annie.

alex scoffed, making david, the man and julie look at him. "poor thing? if you're afraid of doctors, you take a pill. she's just sick, like, warped, you know? seriously, i don't even know how she lives with herself-"

"alex!" julie exclaimed, anger in her eyes as she looked at him. "stop it. you have no room to judge someone you do not know. do not be disrespectful. she has a hard surgery to face, we have to offer support in every way we can."

"julianna." the voice of bailey cut through the room, making the four turn towards the resident. "a word." she said.

julie gulped nervously and followed bailey out of the room but not before shooting alex a look. she fidgeted with her fingers as she and her boss stood in a deserted hall.

"i'll make this short cause i ain't got much time. i do not care about your sex life or your love life. i don't want to see it or hear about it. clear?" bailey questioned making her nod.

"totally." she said.

bailey nodded, "so, here's what you gonna do. i'm gonna tell you once because i like you and you're a good intern. you will not talk to your lady friend about anything else than work. tell her if she favors you- you won't see the inside of an or for three months." she made clear, julie nodding.

"okay."

"okay?"

"okay. you won't even notice dr. bailey. i swear." julie said, nodding. it was completely fair, her love life shouldn't give her more opportunities than others. everyone had to learn and she didn't want to be favored.

"good."

𝐉𝐔𝐋𝐈𝐄 stood next to alex as burke updated annie on her surgery. "the surgery is going to be long and difficult, but we have an extremely capable surgical team, and i can-"  burke was cut off by annie.

"am i gonna die?" she questioned, looking up at the cardio attending, julie and alex sharing a surprised look.

julie didn't want annie to die. she wanted the kind woman to take the risk at bettering her life.

"there's always that risk, but if we don't do the surgery ..." burke trailed off.

"i'll definitely die." annie filled in, burke nodding. "soon?" she asked.

burke nodding and answering with, "yes"

julie watched as annie turned towards her mother who was tucking in the blanket at her feet, "mom, the room's clean." she said.

the dark haired woman felt sympathy for the mother as she nodded, "ok, honey, ok." the elder woman just wanted to make sure her daughter was comfortable.

"mom!"

"she'll have the surgery." ms connors said.

annie looked at her mother, eyes wide, "mom."

"no, no, annie." ms connors said towards her daughter before looking at burke, "she'll have the surgery."

annie looked at her mother for a few seconds, the doctors patiently waiting for her input. "i guess i'll have the surgery." she said, making julie smile. "on one condition. i don't want him there." she added while pointing at alex making julie frown in confusion.

alex frowned too before taking a small step forward, "i'm sorry, annie. did i upset you in some way?" he asked with a slight smile thinking it was a joke.

annie wasn't having it, "if he's in the surgery, i'm not having it." she said before turning to look at alex again. "that is how i live with myself."

julie looked down at the ground as burke told her it was okay. she heard. annie had heard what alex said in the scan room and julie thought it was her right to refuse his presence after hearing how he talked about her. "dr. campbell, prep ms connors." burke told julie before walking out the room with alex.

julie stepped up next to annie's bed. "i think you're very brave for doing this annie." julie told her honestly.

"thank you, julie. for defending me." annie said, her hand reaching out for the young doctor.

"i'll always defend my patients if they deserve to be defended, annie. i mean it, you're very brave. don't listen to what others tell you. you are your own person with your own feelings and no one should judge you for that." julie told her with a smile.

"you're such a sweetheart." ms connors said as she put her hand on julie's shoulder. "take care of her for me in there, would you?"

"mom." annie said, but she couldn't fight the small smile on her face.

"off course, ms connors. your daughter's health is my priority at the moment." julie said making the woman smile. the intern turned towards annie with a smile, "now, annie. ready to kick this tumor's ass? because i know you can do it and i know my bosses can too." she said.

annie released a breath before nodding, "i'm ready."

"alright, i'll have to run a few tests. so, i'll have to draw some blood." julie said, grabbing the equipments she needed before moving to take some blood.

"every time i went to the hospital, someone died." annie suddenly spoke up making julie look at her. "that is why i let it get this bad. my grandparents, my best friend's mom, my little sister. they all died in the hospital. i guess that's what kept me from coming here sooner."

julie was quiet for a moment before a comforting smile rose on her lips, "i understand. hospitals are scary. people die here but you can't forget that good things happen here too." she said. "babies are born, families are started. people's lives are saved, families are reunited." she said, annie nodding with a small smile.

"besides, you are not the only one who is scared of hospitals. once, i was too, you know. some of my worst memories happened within the four walls of a hospital." she told annie.

"thank you for making me feel better." annie said and julie smiled.

"it's no problem." she said with a wink.

🩺.

"𝐀𝐋𝐄𝐗!" julie called as she caught sight of him walking in the cafeteria.

the man stopped and turned, waiting until she caught up to him to move into the line for food. "how's annie?" alex questioned with what was supposed to be genuine concern.

"na-ah. don't even try. i'm not letting you use me to get back on the surgery. you were mean to her and now you learned that your actions have consequences." she said as they put food on their plates.

alex groaned, "cmon jules, this is like a big surgery. why don't you help your best friend out." he said as they moved towards the table meredith and cristina sat.

"because, you're an asshole to everyone-"

"except you." he interrupted.

"hm, you're being a dick to me lately too, you know. but anyway- you're an ass and you have to learn to not be an ass." she said with a shrug of her shoulders. "hey." she greeted as she sat down next to cristina, alex sitting down at the head of the table. she noticed meredith looking a bit down but decided she'd ask her about it later, when less people were around.

"hey pup."

"is it true you get to scrub in on the tumor?" alex questioned cristina who turned towards him with an annoyed expression.

"don't sit here." she told him.

"you get to scrub in?" izzie questioned as she joined them. "how psyched are you?" julie's eyebrows raised as alex's head snapped towards her. she narrowed her eyes as she glanced between them.

cristina hummed as she turned towards izzie, "on a scale of one to ecstatic, ecstatic." she said, izzie smiling at her answer.

"that's unbelievable, you know what i think? i think burke wants to get into your scrubs." alex said making julie choke on her salad. so she wasn't the only one who noticed.

cristina just turned to him aggressively, "why are you sitting here?" she questioned.

julie felt a foot hit her shin and looked towards alex who shot her a look that said, you know. the dark haired girl glanced at her friends before giving him a look that said, we'll talk about it later.

"he kicked me off that surgery for the same crap you pull every day." alex said towards cristina.

"you know what? if i stuck this fork into his thigh, would i get in trouble?" cristina wondered out loud, holding a plastic fork in her hand.

"not if you make it look like an accident." meredith said.

julie hummed, "or if you anonymously hired someone to accidentally do it."

alex scoffed, "on whose side are you?" he questioned making her smile.

"hey." george greeted as he walked up to them, everyone but alex greeting him back.

"thank god man. i'm drowning in estrogen here." alex said gesturing to the women around him. julie rolled her eyes at the comment.

julie cringed the second she caught george looking at meredith, "hey. look, is everything ok?" he asked her seeing her not so happy expression.

"shepherd's a jackass." meredith said, glaring at her food.

"really? i think he's kind of great." izzie said.

cristina pointed at meredith as she explained further, "he reamed her out in front of bailey." she told them making julie cringe. she knew how pissed bailey was at her and mer.

"why?" izzie questioned.

"'cause he's a jackass." meredith said with a shrug, sharing a look with julie.

george threw his tray away making everyone look at each other with a confused frown. "well .. bad days are ... bad." george said making julie cover her eyes as she cringed in his place. "maybe tonight if, you know, if you drink alcohol, i mean, we could, all of us, i mean, go out and drink alcohol ... you know, because of the bad day." he stuttered out and julie was praying that someone could come and safe her.

meredith was saved by her pager beeping. she shot a not so genuine smile at george before standing up. "i got to go."

"dude." alex called for george as the puppy man shook his drink box.

"shut up." george said, looking away and julie couldn't help but laugh, izzie and cristina joining her making george groan.

"i'm sorry georgie, that was an adorable attempt." julie said through her laugh.

🩺.

𝐇𝐎𝐔𝐑𝐒. julie and cristina had been carrying the weight of annie's tumor on their arms for eight hours and they were pretty sure their backs were about to be snapped in two.

julie was now regretting her choice to scrub in on the surgery because she knew she had even longer to go. on the other hand, she was learning a lot by watching dr. burke and dr. bailey work.

"look at the size of this artery." burke said as he gestured towards the artery with his scalpel.

"my god." bailey said, "it's the size of a thumb." she added. "you ever seen a vessel this size?"

burke sighed loudly, "no. this thing is just feeding on all her blood."

"we need more o-negative." bailey said, a nurse replying she'll call the blood bank.

about an hour later, derek shepherd walked in the room. "how's it going?" he asked, positive as always.

"it's more intertwined than the studies made it look." burke responded as he didn't take his eyes off annie's tumor.

"i need another bag. call the blood bank, we need more o-negative." bailey said.

"i'm down 10 units of blood and i haven't even flipped her yet." burke informed shepherd. julie couldn't help but frown. the surgery was even harder as it first appeared to be and she knew the chances of annie surviving were wearing thinner and thinner.

"oh, wow, look at that." shepherd said as he stepped up, admiration in his eyes as he looked at the sight before him.

julie just wanted this to be over. her arm had cramped three times and she hadn't been able to stretch it once in the last nine hours.

"now, how am i supposed to get around that artery?" derek questioned. "all right then, forceps."

the surgery was interrupted by izzie who walked in, "mr. harper, the post-op patient in 2114, i had to open his sternotomy bedside." she said making every single head in the room look at her a collective 'what?!' sounding from everyone. "he had cardiac tamponade. his chest films were clean this morning. it just happened fast. he was in pea. there was no time." she explained.

burke looked towards shepherd who nodded, "go ahead. i got it." derek assured. "we're ok here. yeah i need some retraction."

the people who would stay turned towards the scrub room when they heard alex shouting. "you opened a heart bedside, and you couldn't even page me?" alex questioned loudly, "what? needed all the glory for yourself, right?"

"i paged you 50 times. do you have any idea what i've been through?" izzie exclaimed, julie's eyebrows raising.

they couldn't hear anything until izzie began yelling, much to julie and cristina's amusement. "you are hateful! you are a hateful, hateful, lazy, arrogant, hateful man!" she screamed before leaving making julie smile under her mask.

"never a dull moment here at seattle grace." the words hadn't left cristina's lips when an artery sprung open, blood spurting all directions.

"oh, god!"

"god!"

"oh!" julie looked to the side as blood spattered all over her face.

"get in there. get it." derek said as bailey tried to put a clamp on the artery.

"she can't afford to lose this much blood. we need more blood here." bailey ordered.

"give me some suction here. i can't see what i'm doing." derek said, "clamp, clamp, clamp! is there any blood in the rapid infuser?" derek asked.

"we're waiting on two units." a man replied.

"what do you mean you're waiting?" derek questioned.

"we didn't anticipate this much blood loss." bailey said. "we prepped a double supply. we've used it all." she told derek.

"what did you cut?" he asked.

"nothing. it just blew. she came in with too much damage. the artery walls are too weak." the resident answered. julie's eyes flickered between the two surgeons as she still held up the tumor with cristina. things were going fast and annie was still losing blood.

"take care of it." derek said. "i cannot see. what's this? bells, give me your hand. push right down here and pull towards you." julie did as asked as derek asked for more suction. she had no idea what she was pulling towards her but didn't question it either.

"pressure's dropping." julie informed them after taking a glance at the monitor.

"she needs blood. where the hell is the blood?" he demanded. "squeeze it off right there, here we go."

"we're losing her!" julie called as annie's heart gave out.

derek immediately moved to do cpr but it was too late. annie's heart didn't start on it's own again and they had lost her. and ms connors had lost her second daughter.

"bells, call time of death." derek told her.

julie gulped as she tore her eyes away from annie's face. "time of death is 11:42."
