Queenie waits patiently at the paddock club window for the McLaren Formula 1 team to finish with their much-deserved celebrations, watching Lando's smile never drop from his face.
The team are currently trying to organise their chaotic team members into a group picture with their three trophies. Lando is balancing on the top of a ladder, his 2nd place trophy in his hands and he turns slightly so that he can search the windows of the paddock club above for Queenie's face.
When their eyes meet, his smile grows impossibly wider and he raises the trophy in his hands so that Queenie can see it. Queenie laughs loudly, her heart clenching at the sight of how happy he is.
"Way to go!" She shouts down at him, not even sure if he'll be able to hear amongst the other cheers from the club members standing around her.
He continues to stare at her in utter happiness and awe until his name is called to face the camera so that the photographer is able to grab a couple of shots. Queenie takes this as her cue to make her way out of the paddock club room and towards where Lando had instructed her to wait for someone to grab her at the end of the race.
A few moments later, Queenie recognises a familiar blonde heading towards the spot she's hiding at.
"Hey, Queenie." Charlotte smiles, her grin warm and welcoming. She quickly puts her McLaren papaya orange mask back on and beckons Queenie to follow after her to Lando's driver room so that she can finally congratulate the star.
"Congratulations on the one-two," Queenie gushes. "The team deserve this so much."
Charlotte grins. "Thank you."
The two girls quickly make it to Lando's room and Charlotte lets Queenie inside, promising that Lando would be with her soon. And he is.
Ten minutes later, the door bursts open with enough force to rattle the wall it hits against and it makes Queenie jump slightly in her seat, laughing to herself when she sees the person behind the chaos.
Lando's eyes narrow in on the brunette girl on the couch and he has to force himself to not grin too wide as she leaps out of her seat and races towards him. He wraps his arms around her waist and tucks his head into her neck, breathing in her familiar perfume.
"I'm so proud of you." Queenie whispers, squeezing him as tight as she can.
Lando chuckles. "Thank you, Queens."
Queenie pulls away just enough to see Lando's face and she offers him a smile as her eyes scan his features, memorising every detail.
"P2," She says and Lando feels his mouth dry at the way Queenie is looking at him. She looks at him like he's the greatest thing she's ever witnessed. "That's amazing, Lando... you're amazing."
Lando's cheeks redden as he begins to feel shy under Queenie's gaze. Lando has had a few girlfriends in the past, even some that he'd thought he was in love with, but none of them have ever made him feel the way that Queenie does. From the moment the two first connected over Queenie's drunk Instagram dm, Lando doesn't think he can recall a time that the girl hasn't given him butterflies or made his heart feel like it's front-flipping in his chest.
"I'm so glad you came this weekend," Lando finally says as Queenie pulls out of his embrace so that she's standing in front of him rather than against his chest. "I might not get a weekend as good as this for the rest of the season."
Queenie shakes her head. "I don't believe that."
"You might just be my lucky charm," Lando smirks, his tone light and teasing despite his words being serious. "Do you fancy giving up eight more of your weekends?"
"If you pay me." Queenie jokes.
"I'm suddenly bankrupt."
"Tell that to your McLaren contract extension."
Lando gasps childishly. "So, you are just with me for my money."
"I'm pretty sure I've already admitted that I am." Queenie smirks, jerking away when Lando raises his hand to poke her side.
As Queenie moves further away, Lando hooks his index fingers in the belt loops of her jeans and pulls her towards him. In one swift movement, he cups her cheek in one hand and brings his lips to hers.
This kiss isn't like their first—not because it's led by Lando this time but because this one is more urgent, desperate. It's as if Lando has been waiting to kiss Queenie ever since their first kiss, and technically, he has. Truthfully, he's been waiting since the moment he first met her in person on their visit to the golf course.
Queenie's lips part and she feels herself melting into Lando. She's never quite understood why books describe the characters melting into one another when they kiss but right now, as she feels herself dissolve into Lando's arms with every taste, she finally understands.
It's a kiss that neither Queenie or Lando have ever experienced before and it makes Lando almost hate himself when he has to pull away to breathe.
Not feeling like the one kiss is enough, Queenie pulls Lando back for a few more gentle kisses before finally letting him go.
"Thank you."
"Did you just thank me?" Lando snickers and Queenie cringes at herself.
She nods, embarrassed. "It was involuntary."
"Well, you're welcome," Lando jokes. "Now go make yourself even prettier for our date."
"Our date?"
"You thought I was gonna make you come out here, bag a one-two for the team and then not take you out for dinner?" Lando asks incredulously. "We have to celebrate."
"You can't take me out to celebrate, that's not fair," Queenie shakes her head. "I should be taking you out."
Lando rolls his eyes. "Either way we have a reservation sorted for seven-thirty."
Queenie nods slowly, backing away from the Formula 1 driver. "Are you picking me up?"
"Yeah," Lando confirms. "I should be at your hotel at around seven o'clock."
"Okay," Queenie grins. "See you later, Lando Norris."
Lando flashes the same smile back, laughing at the girl's need to say his full name. "Bye, Queens."
