It is now the morning after Lena's birthday, and just on the outskirts of National City Sam is waking up in bed with an absolutely massive headache. Sam doesn't remember much about last night, other than they all went out for Lena's birthday, and she drank A LOT of alcohol.
"Ughhggmmm..." Sam groans, as she begins to wake up, with the light of the day hitting her.
Alex laughs.
"I see someone is finally waking up." Alex chuckles.
Sam groans again.
Sam continues to wake up and tries to open her eyes, but as soon as she sees the light it doesn't do her head any good, so she closes them again.
"I want.... to die." Sam moans.
Alex laughs again.
"That's what happens when you drink as much as you did." Alex says, in a very smug voice.
"Never again." Sam moans.
Alex laughs once more.
"That's what they all say. I've even said the exact same thing before, but we never learn." Alex says, with a smile on her face, now taking a seat next to her girlfriend on the bed.
Sam groans again, burying her head in her pillow.
"What time is it?" Sam asks, after a few moments silence.
"It's just before 10." Alex replies.
Sam quickly moves in bed, and then turns to look at Alex, surprised by the time.
"Are Ruby and Alura okay?" Sam asks, now going into mom mode, despite how bad her head is hurting.
"They are fine." Alex smiles, placing a caring hand on Sam's side, "They both woke up about an hour ago. I went downstairs with them and made them some breakfast. They are both currently watching some TV downstairs."
"Hmmm... thank you." Sam says, turning back to bury her head into her pillow once more.
Alex chuckles again.
"Do you want me to bring you up a glass of water? And maybe some painkillers?" Alex asks.
"Yes. Please." Sam says.
"Okay. I'll be back with your water and painkillers in a few minutes." Alex says, and then stands up from the bed.
"Thank you. Love you." Sam says, muffled through the pillow.
"I love you too." Alex replies, happily.
Alex makes her way out of the bedroom and back downstairs where Ruby and Alura are still happily sitting watching something on TV.
"You girls both still doing okay?" Alex asks, with a smile, noticing the two girls sitting close next to each other.
"Yes." Alura nods, happily.
"Yeah." Ruby says, "Is mom awake yet?"
"Yes, she is. But she has got a headache from all the alcohol she drank last night, so I am just getting her a nice glass of water and some painkillers." Alex says.
"Oh..." Ruby replies, "I don't understand why adults drink so much alcohol, when it makes them wake up like that."
Alex chuckles.
"You'll probably understand when you are older, when you start to drink alcohol." Alex explains.
Alex makes her way into the kitchen and fills up a nice refreshing glass of water, before then grabbing two painkillers and heads back upstairs. As soon as Alex steps back into the bedroom, she sees that Sam has fallen back to sleep again. Alex thinks about letting Sam sleep, and just leaving the painkillers on the bedside table, but Alex thinks that Sam probably does need to drink some water, otherwise she'll likely wake up again with an even worse headache.
"Sam..." Alex says softly, placing the water on the bedside table.
"Hghmgmhmhmhm..." Sam groans, waking up again.
"Sorry, I didn't want to have to wake you up again, but you really should drink some water." Alex says, in a caring voice.
Sam groans again, and then turns on her side and looks at Alex who has the painkillers in her hands.
"Do you want me to hand you your water?" Alex asks.
"Yeah." Sam says, still in a bit of a moan.
Alex picks up the water again, and then carefully hands it to Sam. Sam takes a few sips of the water, before Alex hands the brunette the two painkillers, which Sam quickly takes, before then drinking the rest of the water.
"There we go." Alex says, "Do you want another glass of water?"
"No." Sam replies.
"Okay... I'll leave you to it then. You can go back to sleep if you want." Alex says, and then makes a move to walk away.
"No." Sam says.
Alex turns back around and looks at Sam.
"Can you stay with me?" Sam asks.
"Of course." Alex smiles, and then puts the empty glass on the bedside table, before she then gets onto the bed, lying next to Sam.
Sam snuggles next to Alex, resting her head on the redhead's chest. The two just lay like that for a while, with Sam not falling back to sleep, just resting in the quiet, waiting for the painkillers to take hold.
"This is nice." Sam hums, a few minutes later.
"Yeah. It is." Alex smiles, happily, "Are you starting to feel a bit better now?"
"Yeah. I think so." Sam nods, but doesn't make a move to move away from Alex.
The two continue to lay like that for a few more minutes, before Sam then turns her head and looks up at Alex, thinking about something that happened the previous day.
"Alex?" Sam asks.
"Yeah?" Alex replies, looking down at her girlfriend, in her eyes.
"Did you mean what you said about adopting Ruby, if we were to get married?" Sam asks.
Alex feels her heart begin to beat faster, not expecting this topic to be brought up again this early in the morning.
"Uhhh.... yeah.... I'd be privileged to adopt Ruby, like Lena is doing for Alura. But... we are not where Kara and Lena are yet..... so..... that would be something, if we got married." Alex explains, a bit awkwardly, hoping she doesn't offend Sam or something.
One of Alex's big worries recently has been that she feels that Sam has been pressing that their relationship is further along than it really is. Alex does love Sam, a lot, and she really loves spending time with her, and Ruby. But Alex isn't quite at the stage yet where she thinks that she will marry Sam one day, and they will all be a family together. Currently even the prospect of her moving in with Sam and Ruby has been a bit too much for her. Alex is just worried that Sam is looking at Kara and Lena's relationship, and thinking they have to keep up with it, or follow a similar pace to them.
"Okay." Sam replies, nodding her head.
"Actually...... I should say something to you..." Alex says, knowing she needs to get this off her chest.
"What is it, Alex?" Sam asks.
"I..... I want you to know.... that I love you.... a lot..... but...... I don't want you to think that our relationship has to keep pace with Kara and Lena's..... When we first began dating.... I said I wanted to go more slowly..... And..... I don't want to offend you..... but some of the stuff you've been talking about recently.... like moving in together.... or even mentioning marriage.... that has honestly freaked me out a bit.... because I am not there yet." Alex says, "I really hope..... that isn't a problem.... I just wanted to tell you."
Sam turns and looks up at Alex again for a few moments, before then growing a loving smile on her face.
"No, it's not a problem at all Alex. I'm sorry if you felt like I was pushing for our relationship to be further than you are comfortable with. But I'm glad you have spoken to me about it, rather than just keeping it inside." Sam replies.
Alex breathes a sigh of relief.
"Okay... good." Alex says, nodding her head.
"But.... I do want to ask.... and if this is too much.... you can totally say no... and I won't be offended, and it won't impact our relationship at all." Sam says, "But I have just been thinking about what you said last night, and what Lena is doing with Alura. So..... do you want to be Ruby's other godmother?"
Alex's eyes go wide in surprise, not expecting that.
"Other..... other godmother?" Alex asks, confused.
"Yeah." Sam nods her head, "Usually kids have two godparents, but Ruby only has one, Lena. But Lena now has a child of her own, so maybe it would be a good thing if Ruby has a second godmother, so if something does happen to me, there can be a godparent that can fully focus on her."
"Oh... wow..." Alex says, stunned.
"Like I said.... if it's too much.... you can say no... and I'll understand." Sam says, a bit awkwardly now.
"No.... it's okay..... It would be too much if you asked me to adopt Ruby now. In fact, if you asked me that I would really freak out. But... yes.... I'd love to be Ruby's godmother." Alex replies, happily, with a smile on her face.
"Great." Sam smiles, before then taking Alex in for a kiss.
The two girlfriends kiss for a few moments, before they are then disturbed by a noise downstairs.
"I guess I better go see what the kids are up to." Alex says, breaking from the kiss.
"Yeah. I'll follow you down in a second." Sam replies.

In Lena and Kara's penthouse in National City, the couple are just waking up, both still being wrapped in one another.
"Hmmm.... morning, darling." Lena purrs, as she notices Kara is awake already.
"Morning." Kara says back, happily.
"How did you sleep?" Lena asks.
"I always sleep good with you by my side." Kara replies.
Lena moves in the bed and then looks at Kara, with a smile on her face.
"You know how to sweet-talk me, don't you?" Lena says, and then gives Kara a good morning kiss.
Kara kisses Lena back.
"It's not sweet talk, it's the truth." Kara replies.
Lena lets out a little huff.
"Well, I suppose I sleep pretty good with you too." Lena says, happily.
"You suppose huh?" Kara says, with a cheeky smile.
Kara then quickly moves them both on the bed so she is on top of Lena, holding the brunette's body down.
"Ohhhfff!" Lena yelps out, surprised by Kara's action.
"You know you sleep better by my side. Admit it." Kara says, teasingly.
Lena now grows her own smirk on her face.
"Make me." Lena says.
"Oh, I will." Kara replies.
Kara then leans down and begins to pepper kisses on Lena's body, although not on her lips, wanting to just tease her girlfriend. Lena responds by moaning happily.
"This isn't exactly what I was expecting for you to do to... make me..." Lena eventually says.
Kara moves back from Lena, and then grows another smirk on her face.
"Oh, that was just for my own enjoyment. This is what I'll do to make you." Kara says, and then begins licking Lena's face with her tongue, slobbering everywhere.
"Eughhhh...." Lena moans, trying to move away from Kara.
"Admit it, Lee." Kara says, and then licks one of Lena's ears.
"Stop!" Lena says, although playfully.
"Never. Admit you sleep better with me next to you." Kara says, and then begins to lick Lena's entire face again.
"Okay! Okay!" Lena eventually relents, "I sleep soooo much better with you by my side."
Kara stops licking Lena, and then moves back to get a proper look at her girlfriend, a happy smile now on her face.
"You happy now?" Lena asks.
"Yep." Kara nods.
"Good." Lena replies, "Now, can you get off of me?"
"Hmmm... no... I have a better idea." Kara says, with a grin.
Kara quickly crawls under the covers, and before Lena can even think about what is happening, Kara begins to pleasure the brunette, causing her to moan.
"Oh... KARA!" Lena moans, happily.
Kara continues to pleasure Lena for the next 15 minutes, allowing her beautiful girlfriend to orgasm several times. After that, Lena returns the favour by doing the exact same for Kara. The two just very much enjoy an incredible morning of pleasure.
"Oh.... wow.... that was...... amazing..." Lena eventually says a while later, the two women now catching their breath.
Kara chuckles, now lying next to Lena on the bed.
"Yeah." Kara replies, "I thought we could take advantage of the limited time we have left without Alura being around, and her potentially walking in on us."
Lena turns and smiles at Kara happily.
"Well, it was a good idea." Lena says, happily.
Kara leans over and takes Lena in for another brief loving kiss, tasting herself on Lena's lips, with Lena also tasting herself on Kara's.
"Hmmm.... shall we continue this in the shower?" Kara asks, with a look of sexual desire on her face.
Lena chuckles, amused by Kara's sexual appetite.
"Yes, but give me a few minutes to recover." Lena replies.
"Of course." Kara nods.
The two women then lay there in the bed in comfortable silence, bodies happily pressed against one another. Kara and Lena know that they both have a special bond with each other, as even though they are not sleeping, they do not feel the need to have a conversation with each other. Kara and Lena are happy to just relax and recover in silence. However, eventually Lena has a thought.
"Kara?" Lena says.
"Hmm?" Kara replies.
"About the adoption..." Lena begins.
"What about it?" Kara asks.
"How.... how long have you been planning it.... and.... did you explain everything to Alura... and give her the option?" Lena asks, just wanting more details on Kara's decision to allow her to adopt Alura.
Kara turns her body to now look at Lena, with a small smile on her face.
"Honestly, I have been thinking about it for a while now." Kara admits, "I don't like to think about it, for obvious reasons, but I do realise that me being Supergirl puts me in a dangerous position. A position where I am more likely to not come back home to my daughter compared to other mothers. I take solace in the fact that I know that if anything happens to me, then you, Alex, Eliza and our friends will step up and take care of Alura. But I also realise that if anything were to happen, you wouldn't have any legal standing to actually take Alura in as your own. All you'd have is Alex and Eliza knowing to respect my wishes. So, ever since you made that necklace for Alura I have wanted to have you adopt her, to make it official, so I know that without a shadow of a doubt you will be the one looking after Alura. But.... I don't want you to be upset or anything.... but I just needed to make sure that you could step up... and be Alura's mom without me..... It isn't me doubting you, just making sure, without a shadow of a doubt, that Alura will be okay. So, after everything that happened, with me being missing, and then losing my memories, that was all the proof I needed to know for sure that if something did happen to me, you would be able to take care of Alura on your own, and not fall apart, like I know Alex did for a while there."
Lena is silent for a few moments, taking in Kara's words, tears appearing in her eyes.
"I.... I totally understand where you are coming from... and why you needed to be sure about me.... Honestly... when everything happened.... I did fall apart a bit.... I thought that I needed to be strong for Alura.... so I kept my emotions about your disappearance inside..... But that was wrong.... and I learnt from that." Lena replies.
"Yes." Kara nods, "And that is another reason I know if something happens to me, you'll be able to take care of Alura on your own. Being a mother doesn't mean that suddenly you do everything right. You have no idea how many things I got wrong with Alura before you came along, and I will get wrong in the future. But being a mother is about learning from your mistakes, and being a better mother because of them."
"Yeah." Lena smiles.
"And that is why I know you will be the best mom ever, just like you have been over these last few months, since Alura choose you as her momma." Kara explains, "I know that there is nothing that you won't do to protect and care for Alura. And while I really hope that nothing ever happens to me, I take a lot of comfort knowing that our daughter will be in your care if something does happen."
Lena now turns in the bed and smiles at Kara, lovingly, tears still in her eyes.
"Thank you.... that means a lot." Lena says.
"Of course." Kara replies, and then moves closer to Lena to take her in for another loving kiss.
The two kiss for a few moments, before they then part again.
"What about Alura? Did you talk to her about it?" Lena asks.
"I did." Kara nods, "I spoke to her first about it a few weeks ago, just as I was beginning to get my powers back. Honestly at first, she didn't really understand about adoption, and what you legally being her mother would mean. But after I carefully explained things to her, she understood, and she wanted to do it without any hesitations."
Lena now grows a big smile, so happy that Alura was the one to choose for her to adopt her, rather than Kara telling Alura it would be happening. Lena feels honestly amazing every day when she thinks about the fact that it is Alura who originally choose for her to be her momma. Lena knows it will be the biggest honour that she has ever received, and she is going to cherish it always.
"That's good." Lena replies, "I can't wait for everything to be official. My heart might honestly explode when I finally receive the adoption confirmation certificate."
Kara chuckles.
"I hope not. I want you around for a lot longer yet." Kara replies.
Lena smiles at Kara again.
"How about forever?" Lena suggests.
"Hmm... I think that isn't long enough." Kara says, with a smile.
Lena chuckles.
"I love you, darling." Lena says, taking Kara in for a kiss.
"I love you too." Kara replies.

Alex has now just taken Alura home to Lena and Kara's penthouse, having said her goodbyes to Sam and Ruby. Alex does enjoy spending time with Sam and Ruby, but as she mentioned to Sam this morning, she does still need time to breath and be on her own. Alex really hopes that Sam understands where she is coming from, and isn't just pretending she does. Alex loves Sam, maybe more than anyone, and she does think that maybe she will spend the rest of her life with her. However, Alex still feels she needs time to continue to grow on her own for now, she needs a little space.
"Mommy! Momma!" Alura yells out, as she and Alex go walking in through the front door of the penthouse.
Lena and Kara are however nowhere to be seen.
"Uhh... Alura, mommy and momma are probably upstairs. Maybe we should..." Alex begins, but before she can finish Alura goes running upstairs, "ALURA!"
Alex then freezes as she hears Alura run upstairs, trying to find her two parents. Alex for her part is kind of stuck in an awkward position. A part of Alex wants to run after Alura and hopefully try and stop her from potentially running in on her two parents doing something the five-year-old shouldn't see. However, another part of Alex doesn't want to risk seeing her sister naked doing something with Lena.
Alex ultimately takes too long to think through what she should do, and is soon pulled out of her thoughts by the sounds of Lena and Kara yelling out in surprise.
"Oh god." Alex groans, her facing going red, wondering what Alura possibly walked in on.
Alex spends the next few minutes waiting downstairs in the living room, and she is soon met by Alura, who now has a bit of a timid look on her face.
"Alura... are you okay?" Alex asks, hesitantly.
"I uhh... I don't understand." Alura says, in a confused voice.
"You don't understand what?" Alex asks.
"I don't understand... why mommy was doing that to momma in the shower?" Alura admits.
Alex groans, not being able to hold the noise in, literally hating this situation right now.
"Right uhhh..." Alex stammers, deciding she just needs to put aside her personally feelings and be a good aunt right now, "Come sit down next to me."
Alex guides Alura to sit down on the couch next to her, with the five-year-old still looking a bit shellshocked.
"Okay.... so I am not sure what mommy and momma told you..." Alex begins.
"They told me they would speak to me once they are washed." Alura interjects.
"Right." Alex nods.
"Well..... grownups.... when we love someone..... we like to do things with... and to each other..... to make us feel good. So.... whatever momma and mommy were doing.... they were doing it to make each other feel good.... and show each other they love one another." Alex says, awkwardly.
"But why would..." Alura begins.
"You'll understand more when you are older. If you have more questions, it's probably best you ask momma and mommy." Alex quickly interrupts, not wanting Alura to tell her what she saw Kara and Lena doing.
"O...kay." Alura eventually nods.
"Good, now come here. Let me give you a cuddle." Alex says.
Alura scoots closer to Alex, and Alex then takes her niece in for a nice hug. Alex really hopes that Alura isn't scarred by anything she just saw. But if Alura is, it's lucky that she is still seeing her therapist.
Alex and Alura cuddle on the couch for about 10 minutes, before Kara and Lena come walking downstairs, with awkward and embarrassed looks on their faces.
"Hey guys..." Alex says, awkwardly.
"Hi... Alex..." Kara says.
The three adults all just look at each other in silence for a while, none of them really knowing what to say. Eventually, the three ladies just break out into awkward laughter.
"Oh Rao..... this is so awkward." Kara says.
"Yeah... you can only imagine how I feel." Alex replies.
Lena now walks over to Alura and Alex, with the five-year-old still hugging her aunt.
"Are you okay, Alura?" Lena asks, hesitantly.
Alura turns her head and looks at Lena.
"Y... yes.... I think so.... Aunt Alex spoke to me about what you were doing...." Alura replies.
"Oh... that's good." Lena nods, and then mouths 'thank you' to Alex.
"Hmm... I really wish aunt Alex had stopped you from running upstairs though." Kara says.
Alex now turns and looks at her sister.
"I did try, but Alura came running in, looking for both of you. I told her you were probably upstairs, and I was just about halfway through telling her she shouldn't go up and see you, but she'd already ran upstairs. I then decided to not give chase because I didn't want to see anything either." Alex says.
"Hmmm... fine." Kara says, with a bit of a huff.
Alex just shakes her head, while rolling her eyes.
Alex spends another 15 minutes with Kara and Lena, talking about the events of the previous night, with Alex filling Kara and Lena in on Sam's hangover. After that, Alex says her goodbyes to Kara, Lena and Alura, and then head home to her own apartment, deciding that she will spend the rest of the day relaxing at home alone. Alex has a shift to work at the DEO tomorrow, so she knows that she needs to get some rest in, otherwise she is going to be tense all day, and not at her peak physical capacity.
Alex drives herself home, parks her car in her designated car parking spot, and then makes her way into her apartment complex. Alex then climbs the 3 flights of stairs, deciding that will be better then using the elevator, and will give her some minimal cardio work. About 3 minutes later, Alex makes her way onto her floor corridor, and then walks down towards her apartment.
As Alex's apartment door comes into view, the redhead notices a black woman standing outside, seeming to act a bit strange, looking away from her.
"Uhhh.... hello? Can I help you?" Alex asks the woman, awkwardly.
The woman looks up at Alex, seeing her now for the first time.
"Sorry.... I... I'm just waiting for someone." The woman says.
"Uhhh... okay.... well.... are you waiting for me?" Alex asks, confused, "You're standing outside of my apartment...."
"You're Alex Danvers?" The woman asks.
Alex now gets a bad feeling in her stomach as she puts the key in her lock.
"Uhhh... yeah." Alex replies.
The black woman then pulls out a gun and points it at Alex.
"You killed my brother." Kelly Olsen says.
