Nick and Derek where driving on their way to collect Carl from his friends house,
"you know the whole reason Carl is in my life was because when my mom died i went off, i turned to drugs and alcohol, one night i was at a club, i didn't know what i was thinking i mean i knew i was gay, i saw a woman, her name was Katherine, she was older than me i was 15 and she was 20,we slept together,
i fell for her, told her i loved her but the minute Carl was born she broke my heart, signed away her rights and left 15 year old me with a new born son," Nick ranted keeping his eyes on the road,
Derek rested his hand on Nick's thigh, Nick relaxed a bit, "why are you telling me this?" Derek questioned,
"because Katherine called me the night you nearly died, she's married now but due to problems she can't have kids, she's trying to take me to courts and get complete custody of my son!" Nick went off, tears forming in his eyes,
" we won't let her take him," Derek reassured,
"but how do you know that?" Nick started questioning Derek,
" she signed away rights, according to government she doesn't have any children, the courts will laugh at her and i won't let her," Derek squeezed Nick's thigh in reassurance.

Nick walked into the loft, holding Carl, he found a sleeping Derek on his bed with a book in his lap, "god he looks so peaceful and adorable," he muttered, "he's like an overgrown puppy," Carl agreed causing Nick to laugh,
the alarm started to blare causing Derek to jump up, running to turn the alarm off, Cora came running in as well, "what does it mean?" she questioned,
Derek and Nick looked towards the window finding the alpha pack symbol, "it means they're coming...tonight," Derek spoke turning around,
Cora walked out the door having to get to school, "don't you have work and Carl don't you have school," Derek questioned,
"see when you know, i called into work sick for the week and i thought i would check in on you,"
" come on i'll drop Carl to school, you seem stressed, go lay down," Derek told Nick, taking Carl out of his arms,
Nick just nodded, walking over and collapsing on the bed.

Derek came back, laying down beside Nick, "feeling better?" he questioned, Nick turned nodding, connecting their lips Nick climbed on top of Derek, "everyone's at school, i say we have some fun while we can," Nick spoke,
"i like your thinking," Derek replied flipping them,
they heard the door open, Derek quickly got off of Nick while Nick sat up, Issac and Boyd walked in holding bags,
"go back to school!" Derek spoke annoyed, "well actually we can't Boyd and i are incredibly and unbelievably sick," Issac replied smartly,
"with what brain damage?" Nick spoke up, "well i have a migraine and Boyd here has explosive diarrhea," Issac told the two men,
"we're here to protect Derek," Boyd spoke up, "your here to protect me? well i'm in trouble then," Derek said,
Nick slapped Derek on the back of the head, "be nice they're your betas, now i have to go meet Chris behave, no dying Derek i mean it,"
"i always keep my promises, go i'll be fine?" Derek spoke giving Nick a peck on the lips before sending him out the door.

Nick had just finished meeting up with his brother,
he got a couple of text messages from Derek about the plan,
walking to his car, he had to go pick up Carl then check on Derek and then buy groceries,
Nick was about to open his car door when he felt a pain in the back of his head, then everything went black.

Nick came to it to find he was being held by the throat with claws, looking over he saw his son crying in pain from the way his hands where being held back,
Derek and Kali were fighting, Kali swinging with her feet and cutting Derek, "Derek!" Nick called out in worry,
Carl started kicking, screaming and crying, "Daddy! help me! it hurts!" it broke both Derek's and Nick's hearts at Carl's cries,
Issac ran across the water grabbing Carl, Nick elbowed Ethan causing him to let go, Nick ran to comfort his crying son, "hey hey, everything's fine i'm fine,"
Nick turned round to see Kali forcing Boyd into Derek's claws before saying something and the alpha pack left,
Nick set his son down and went over to Derek finding him frantically applying pressure to the wounds he caused, "it's okay," Boyd spoke accepting his death,
"no,no, no it's not, it's not," Derek panicked, "it's all okay, Derek,"
"i'm sorry," Derek spoke tears forming, Nick had never saw Derek like this,
"the full moon that feeling it was worth it, did you know it was the lunar eclipse, i always wondered what...what that felt like for one of us, for a werewolf," before Derek could answer Boyd fell limp to the floor,
Derek just sat there staring at the blood on his hands, Nick helped Derek up then engulfed him in a hug, letting Derek cry into his shoulder,
Carl came up to them, hugging Derek who picked him up, Carl wiped away a tear on Derek's face before putting his head on his shoulder,
"it's not your fault big guy," Nick reassured, "but it is Nick, my claws did that the exact thing i was scared of doing,"
Cora cried over Boyd's body and all Derek could do was blame himself,
"you wanna stay with me and Carl tonight, Cora can stay with Peter, your just gonna be uncomfortable in this loft," Nick told him,
Derek nodded not saying anything.

Nick was laying his head on Derek's bare chest, "Derek please say something," he begged,
"Nick i'm fine, but i already told you this, everyone around me gets hurt, look at what happened to Carl, he's going to be traumatised," as if on cue Carl came in crying, both men sat up,
"hey,hey it's okay come here, your safe come here," Nick invited,
Carl crawled into the bed and immediately curled up to Derek falling asleep,
"he needs you Derek, your his favourite person," Nick whispered, then turned of the light also cuddling up to Derek.
