A FEELING OF UNEASE SETTLES IN THE PIT OF YOUR STOMACH.
"jealous? but, don't you think it's wrong to play with her feelings?"
also, you had a really bad feeling about this
mina slightly nods, "well. . .yes, but that's just kinda a part of the job when you're a matchmaker"
"yeah," ochaco adds, "and plus, jealousy is one of our most powerful emotions! if yaomomo thinks she could lose you to someone else, she'll definitely go for it!"
you sigh,
it still doesn't ease your your spirits
but hey, they've known momo way longer than you have, and know way more about her
if they say this will work then—dammit, it's gonna work!
you just hope they know what they're doing. . .

"now! it's time for the very first practice between you two!" mina yells,
her and her heroic friends had set you and todoroki up in a 'controlled' environment; meaning, a portion of the lounge they had rented and cleared out for the day.
you sigh, at least there won't be strangers staring the whole time
"but first!" ochaco hums, "you two need to get to know each other! pretending to have a budding romance will be hard if you aren't even friends!"
so. . .the given time was excruciatingly awkward; todoroki isn't much of a talker, and you didn't wanna poke and potentially annoy him so you just kinda sat there in awkward silence
you checked your watch for the umpteenth time now as this man peered into your soul
five minutes left.
hey god, it's me again. . .please. . .
end this.
seriously though, if he doesn't wanna be here, then why'd he agree in the first place?
finally, the time ended and now you get to let your inner theater kid shine.
[y/n and todoroki acting sessions!]
"ready! go!"

"wow" kirishima remarks, not knowing what else to say,
he eventually finds his words, "you two are surprisingly good actors"
"yeah! especially after that really awkward first ten minutes" invisible girl—now known to you as toru adds,"do we even need more practice?"
iida appears to be in thought, "well, we still have this area for a few more hours—and practice is always good so i say yes! though, it would be safe to launch the next phase of the plan as early as tomorrow"
you sigh, to think all this is really happening. . .
japan's top heroes are helping you with your love life. . .
you don't know whether to be elated or saddened.

"alright, are you ready?" mina asked—though you could barely hear her over your own beating heart,
you swallow the lump in your throat, only nodding as you got closer to your place of work.
"good luck! and remember, the plan is only as good is your confidence in it—you've got this, okay!?"
you can't help but smile as she squeezes your hand; you nod, "okay!"
"good!"
she lets go of you, waving goodbye as you walked into the café
so here's the plan: you'd go inside and pretend it was a normal day while mina—who called momo over for a cup of coffee also pretends to not know that you work here.
then, at some point, todoroki will walk in and act like this is the first time you've met each other and that you hit it off quite well; if momo isn't bothered by this you take it a step further: he/you will ask you/him out.
theres a lot to go wrong here.

"good morning! mina-san!"
"good morning yaomomo! you're quite bouncy this morning!"
the woman giggles, "this is (y/n)-san's workplace! i'm happy i'll get to see her today"
mina blinks, "really? i hope she's working today, then"
momo frowns, "me as well"

"good morning, (y/n)-san!" momo comes bouncing into the café, happier than you've ever seen her
"good morning, you two!" you greet, trying your best not to scream over how cute she is
"what can i get you?"
mina walks up to the counter, and momo hangs back, "um. . .i'll have a. . .uh"
you can't tell if she was stalling or is really just this indecisive
it was then that the bell over the door rung, momo being the only one to look up as both you and mina knew who that was.
"todoroki-san? what brings you here?"
"you're—you're shoto! the pro hero!" you try your best to mimic your own fan girl reactions
he nods, and you tense up,
"um—what can i—what can i get you?!"
"hey! we were here first!" mina pouts as momo's face drops,
"any recommendations?"
you nod, running to the back briefly; when you come back, there's a cup of tea in your hand
"it's green tea! i know how much you like it—but i know you don't really like it when it's hot"
you hand it to him and your fingers brush against each other's; todoroki's eyes soften as he stares down at the disposable cup
". . .thank you"
you shoot a look up at momo to see how she reacted,
her face was. . .neutral.
she didn't look pleased, but she didn't look upset either
"as a fan, i also know you love cold soba," you say without thinking, "i know a place that serves it nearby. . ."
todoroki raises a brow, "interesting. i'll give it thought"
he pays, and with that. . .he leaves.
well this isn't ideal. . .

great, now you have to go on a date with shoto. . .
you never thought you'd be complaining about that but under these circumstances, it was highly appropriate.
"dammit" you sigh as you sit down at your kitchen table
well, you two did just meet a few weeks ago, and momo doesn't seem like the type to get jealous. . .you should've known. . .
you calm down a bit, your eye being caught by something you had forgotten about in the last couple days.
the letter.
you pick it up, looking at the seal you hadn't noticed before. the wax seal was very ornate—dripping with richness.

i know i already said this but to further a elaborate on why this story might kinda short: you two are getting together pretty early on the book and if you're familiar with me through my shoto book you'll know that i am the slow burn queen—but the thing with those is that you usually spend more time trying to get together than as an actual couple, and sometimes ppl just want something easy and cute
my next momo story (my next one that features her is a her vs shoto x reader) will be a lot longer lol
