Madeline's Pov
I finally finished my call with Bella. I'm so relieved that everything is okay. I've
been pacing my bedroom for two hours since Bella let me know she arrived in
Italy. I've been having a hard time wrapping my mind around the existence of
vampires. Who would've thought the myths were real.
I'm still confused about why Bella would be dating a vampire. She was human.
His diet consisted of her kind as food. I get goosebumps just thinking about it.
I mumble "Such a dumbass " under my breath. Bella wasn't the only dumbass.
Edward was as well. However, the brief summary of vampires I had received
led me to believe that they hadn't thought everything through. Their
relationship was not only dangerous but was also illegal. Bella, for the most part, always seemed to be a magnet for danger. Especially if we count Edward's departure.
"Madeline!" Charlie yells.
I couldn't help the sigh that escaped my mouth. The idea of confronting
Charlie about Bella's little trip to Italy wasn't exactly appealing.
"Coming!" I call down. I quickly make my way downstairs, leaving the comforts
of my room. I assume Charlie is waiting in the kitchen and head there first.
My assumptions were proven correct when I was greeted by Charlie sitting at
the kitchen table.
"So, where is Bella?" Charlie asks getting right to the point.
"So straight to it then, huh?" I reply sarcastically.
"Madi," Charlie rubs his face as he lets out a sigh.
Charlie looks beyond exhausted. The stress he's been dealing with has taken
a toll on him. It looked like he had aged 10 more years from this conversation
alone. There was no denying it. Charlie had been through hell for the last couple of months dealing with Bella. Hearing news of her disappearance was likely the cherry on top of it all.
"In Italy?" I cave while scratching the back of my head.
I felt guilty about everything Charlie was going through. I wasn't one to quickly
spill information on Bella. However, considering everything that had happened
to Charlie, I felt I couldn't let the piece of information slide.
"She's not in Colorado?" Charlie asked sporting a confused expression.
I furrowed my brows at his response. Why did he think Bella was in Colorado?
"I thought Jacob told you?" I said in a confused tone.
"Jacob told me she was in Colorado. Not in Italy," His voice rose slightly
towards the end.
That sleazy dog told me he snitched to Charlie.
I pursed my lips a sighed. " He lied to you. Bella's in Italy."
"When did Jacob become a liar?" Charlie mumbled to himself.
Since always, I thought to myself bitterly.
Jacob and I have never had a friendship, much to Charlie's and Billy's dismay.
When we got older, my view of him got worse. I think of him as a moody
person acting on his own self-interest more than others.
Finding out about werewolves existing was just as shocking as finding out
about vampires. However, I found myself more focused on vampires due to
the current pressing matters.
"When it benefits him. ," I say, shrugging my shoulders.
"So she's in Italy with Edward? Fantastic," he tells me while ignoring my jab.
"Not just Edward. Alice went too." I added. I was perhaps further adding more fuel to the flame.
Gossiping on an empty stomach never felt right to me. I was currently facing the fridge, grabbing the ingredients I would use to make hamburgers. Cooking Charlie's favorite meal would coax him to relax.
"Is that supposed to make me feel better?" Charlie questioned.
"Yes, because Alice will make sure they don't do anything stupid," I say softly
giving a reassuring smile.
"Are you sure about that?" Charlie asks, unsure, taking a swig of cold beer.
"One hundred percent," I answer as I turn my attention back to prepping.
We fell into a comfortable silence after that. My mind slipped back to the
Cullens as I worked on the hamburgers.
Bella and Alice were brief in explaining the existence of vampires. It was quick
and short, due to Alice having a vision of Edward going to die.
"Are you making burgers?" Charlie's voice breaks the silence.
"Yeah, I thought it would be good for a midnight meal," I answer with a bit of
humor in my voice.
"I think it was a great idea," he says with a smile while reaching for a fishing
magazine.
Once again, we fell into a comfortable silence as I watched the burgers sizzle
in the pan.
When I first found out about the Cullen's secret, I came home early from my
friend Jessica's house. I was surprised to hear Alice yelling at Bella about
watching her jump off a cliff.
I quickly made myself known when I started screaming at both of them. I
wasn't sure what I said in a fit of rage. Whatever it was, it had caused Alice to
snap at me in defense of herself.
She claimed she could see the future, which quickly caused me to become
angrier. I wasn't in the mood for her excuses. I didn't believe Alice and called
her crazy. She went on to use inhuman speed to get toward me. I was shown
the truth about supernatural beings in that moment.
I was going to tag along with Alice and Bella but Alice claimed she had seen
my death if I decided to go. Since I didn't want to die, I thought it was best to
stay behind.
The smell of cooked burgers catches my attention. I quickly plate one burger
for Charlie and one for me.
"Bon appetit," I chirp as I place a plate in front of him. Charlie looked
extremely grateful and quickly dug in. I was shocked by how quickly he
worked his way through the meal.
"Madeline, you are no longer grounded," Charlie announces after finishing a
bite.
"What? I was grounded?" I ask in disbelief. "What did I do?"
"I figured you should be since you knew everything before me." He tells me
with a shrug.
"Geez, thanks, Charlie," I grumble, making sure my voice is dripping with
sarcasm. Charlie lets out a slight cough as he stands up.
"Listen, Madi, thank you for letting me know where really she is. I appreciate
it. Really."
"Yeah, of course, Charlie," I say with a small smile.
Charlie simply nods his head and leaves to the living room. Charlie stops midway and turns around. "Since you cooked, I'll handle the dishes."
"Sounds like a deal.' I reply with a small chuckle.
I went back to my room and started to get ready for bed. I quickly threw on
some sweatpants, a shirt, and made a beeline for my bay window. It was my
favorite spot in my room.
A couple of years back, I had Charlie create a better-quality cushion using a
foam mattress. That way, I could lay on it all night and watch the sky from my
window.
As I stare at the sky I can't help but wonder if Bella will become a vampire? I
know if given a chance by Edward, Bella probably would go back to him in a
heartbeat. With that in mind there would be no choice but for her change into
one. I doubt Bella would want to grow old knowing Edward would forever be in
the physical state of 17.
I will grow old by myself. I wonder if Bella will still be a part of my life
then? Would I grow old with someone of my own to call my love and be
surrounded by our kids? I hope so. Or will I have to become one too?
My thoughts were interrupted by a consistent tap on my window. I was
confused about what was causing it until I saw what seemed to be tiny
pebbles being thrown at my window.
I look down and I see two figures. The remnants of the porch light help show
their details. One of them is built like a body builder. He's wearing a goofy
expression on his face. I could immediately tell who it was.
Emmett.
I sigh and open the window. "If you break my favorite window, I'll never be
your history partner again Emmett I mean it."
"Jump, we need to talk," Emmett said, disregarding my comment.
My eyes widen at the request. "No way am I jumping."
I was getting ready to close my window. I wasn't in the mood to talk to the
Cullens. Nor was I in the mood to jump from heights.
"We won't let you fall. Right Jasper?" Emmett yells, giving Jasper a slight
shove.
"No, ma'am," Jasper said with slight amusement tinting his voice.
"Yeah. No."
I closed my window and settled back into my seat. It was quiet for a second
and then a minute. I assumed Emmett and Jasper had left and planned on talking
to me later. I let out a sigh and started to watch Vampire diaries.
*tap* tap*
"Damnit, Emmett, leave me alone."I mumble.
I suddenly see his figure slam into my window with his face sporting a wide
grin. I screamed and fell off the window seat. I look up to see Emmet letting
himself in.
"Don't mind me," he said, walking towards me.
Suddenly, Emmett has me in his arms, and we are on the ground next to
Jasper. I look around frantically I slowly register that we are in the woods that
surround my home.
"Wha...what..what the hell," I stammer. I rush to get out of Emmet's grasp.
Is this how fast vampires run?
I can't help but be impressed by it."That was awesome !" I yell. I completely
forget Emmet breaking into my house like a madman. However, its only for a
moment.
"Wait a second. You threw me out a window!" I yell as I glare at Emmett. In
response, Emmett throws his hands up in mock surrender. "We needed you to
come tonight, not tomorrow."
"Why?"
Curiosity filled me. I rarely went to the Cullens' home by myself. I think I only
went there twice, and that was with Bella.
"About our little family secret. Now hop on," Emmett turns around and squats
down a bit, for me to get on.
I stared at Emmett for a while before finally giving in. It was clear that they
weren't going to leave me alone.
"Emmett, if you drop me I swea-"
"I won't. Now hop on. Please. " Emmett turns to give me a goofy grin.
Although it may seem a bit childish,I love piggy back rides. I don't care how old
I get. I will always love them. I walked about a couple of steps back from
Emmet, with a smirk plastered on my face.
"Emmett, are you ready?"
"I'm always ready."
I start running towards him and quickly jump on him. The minute I wrapped my
arms around Emmett's neck, he took off. My eyes couldn't keep track of the
speed, and the wind hit my face.
It was hard processing everything due to the speed, but I could make out
Jasper running beside us as he laughed, seemingly enjoying the interaction.
"Hahahah!" He cackles like a mad man.
The feeling of getting a piggy back ride from Emmett was like riding a
rollercoaster.
"Hold on!" I hear Emmett yell.
I quickly tighten my grip, preparing for whatever would happen next.
Suddenly, I feel a jolt. We are now on top of one of the many trees
surrounding the town of Forks. I think we are about 34 feet up in the air.
Jasper was still on the ground. I'm not sure why he stayed so close to the
floor.
"She's fine. Don't worry about it," Emmett yells down to Jasper who is sending
him a worried look.
A reckless thought began to swirl in my head. What if we jumped? I was
positive we would be just fine.
"Bro, let's jump," I say to Emmett,
I could feel the adrenaline pumping in my veins. I feel like I'm on top of the
world, and I'm ready for whatever it brings.
Emmett let's out a laugh and adjusts me a bit.
"On the count of three?"
"ONE!" I yell
"TWO!"
"THREE!"
As soon as I feel us falling, I let out a scream. I feel the air get knocked out of
me before I have time to register the fall. Emmett was back running again.
This time he ran even faster.
I kept screaming at every jump, twist, and fall. I'm not able to make out
anything. Everything began blurring together. We suddenly slowed down to a
stop. I can feel my heart beating in my throat. My throat was raw from all the
screaming. Emmett puts me down, and I immediately lay on the ground
attempting to catch my breath. I am definitely doing that again.
Befriending vampires is like buying your own personal rollercoaster.
As I was getting up, I see the rest of the Cullens waiting out front with worried
looks.
"Emmett, have you forgotten that she is human?" Esme lectures Emmett as
she comes forward to guide me in the house.
"It's fine. It was incredible." Slightly dazed. I didn't want Emmett to get in trouble with Esme
and the rest of his family because of me.
"I took precautions. Right Jasper?" Emmett asks as he bumps his shoulder
into him.
"Only because I was yelling for you too." Jasper sighs.
I watched Jasper walk ahead towards the house with a stressed expression.
Something tells me Emmett gives the whole family a hard time.
"Come on, dear, let's head in. There is much to discuss." Esme tells me as
she guides me inside their home.
