"Well, that was one way to handle to it," She said, shocked about what I told her. "Hey, maybe you should talk to him about what went down between him and his now ex-girlfriend." She pointed to the extremely upset Andrew. I just looked at her like she's crazy, sighing . She shrugged and said, "Hey I think it'll best for the best of you. Why do you think I always pair you two together? He needs some help and you need someone to get you through hell."
"Yea, but we're not friends anymore," I stated. "I don't think he'll even want to be my friend anyways. I can't even get what he said to me that night out of my head."
"Well," She said. "Maybe, since he got put into your shoes, he'll want to be your friend again. I mean-"
"Yea, yea, I get it, I get it," I shrugged, brushing her off. Andrew was crying next to me. I couldn't help but feel half empathic and half "now you know how I felt bitch". I stared off into space, thinking about what happened.
*flashback*
"Hey Andy," I said as I sat down at our lunch table. I looked around at all of our friends, Brent, Hayden, Dave, Benn, and Brandon.
"Hey Lacey," Andy smiled. God he's so cute. "How are you?"
"Tired, but good," I answered. He smiled at me and went back to his conversation with Dave. My best friend, Anngie, sat down next to me. She was adopted into the Taddie family from the Dominican Republic, so her skin was a lot darker than mine. But I don't mind, I still love her like the sister I never had. Her older "brother" was Brent, and he knew that she was deaf before the rest of her family knew. So I learned sign language from him. Because we that's the only way I can communicate with her besides with notes in class, we started our own conversation in sign language. I noticed Dave looking at Anngie's and mine hand motions. I looked over at my friend to see her smiling her award winning smile and blush the deepest crimson her dark skin would allow.
"Lacey?" Dave started asking. "Can you tell her that I think she looks really pretty today." I nodded and signed it to her. She started blushing even harder.
"She says you look nice, too," I "translated". He managed to blush, which is rare for him, and look down at his food and he signed thanks, the only thing he knows in sign language.
"So I was wondering," Andrew whispered. "If maybe we can get Anngie and Dave together because Dave really likes her. And by the way she's blushing and the smile she gets every time she looks at him, she really likes him, too."
"Yea, she can't stop talking about him," I stated a bit sarcastically while throwing my arms in the air dramatically. Andy chuckled at the pun. Anngie signed to me that she wants to ask Dave out. I nodded at her and turned to him, "Dave, Anngie wants to know if you'd accompany her on a date to the movies this Saturday?" His face got red as his head snapped up. I looked over at Anng, who started blushing. He looked over at Anngie and nodded, which cause her to blush the brightest red her dark skin would allow, again. The lunch bell rung, and Dave got up and threw away their stuff and walked Anng back to class.
"Hey," I was really questioning myself here, but I was thinking about asking Andy out myself. "I was wondering if you'd be willing to double date with them?" Andy looked confused for a second, then realised who I was talking about instantly. He just shrugged, which upset me a bit. "We could just go as friends so it's not as awkward if I just go to 'translate' for him if he doesn't learn enough sign to talk to her." He looked at me like I was crazy. I blushed a little out of embarrassment and looked away. He subconsciously walked me to Anngie's and mine math class and stopped me, like he wanted to say something to me. He started to lean closer to me and closed his eyes. My breathing hitched as he grabbed my wrists and pinned them against the wall next to the doorway. I closed my eyes as his lips hovered over mine. The bell rung as he place his lips against mine. We simultaneously opened our eyes and sighed. He rested his forehead against mine and my heart started racing. He looked down, let go of my wrists and kissed me. But not just any normal kiss, like a kiss that he'll never see me again. But he's in my History and English classes. He rushed off to whatever class he had.
I walked into Math all smiley, touching my lips. Anng looked at me like I was crazy but I told what happened and she got all excited and said that Andy and I should double date with her and Dave. I told her that it was Andy's decision because I asked him and then it lead to that. At that point, Mr. Klink "shushed" us and told us to pay attention, which we did. We then just passed notes the entire period and giggled like Asian school girls.
*That Saturday*
Anng and I waited outside the movie theatre for Dave and Andy, giggling like idiots. I looked around nervously for Andy because he hasn't talked to me since Wednesday. I saw Dave walking towards us, his head down with the biggest grin on his face. He looked up when he got to us and hugged the both of us.
"Where's Andy?" I asked him.
"I talked to him earlier and he said he wasn't coming," Dave stated, a little concerned as to why I wasn't aware. "Did he not tell you? He told me he did."
I shook my head as I said, "He hasn't talked to me since Wednesday. Bit I assume he told you want happened." He nodded sadly and gave me a comforting hug. I started crying slightly into his shoulder as Anngie rubbed my arm comfortingly. Dave took out his phone to call Andrew.
"Hey man, where are you?" He asked. There was some muffled talking on the other side of the phone, which caused Dave to look at me with a saddened expression, his mouth slightly ajar, and him running his hand over his mouth. "Listen, we're all here waiting for you." His voice got quite as he spoke, "You know how sensitive she is when it comes to abandonment. You can't just do something like that one day, then not speak to her the next couple of days. Look man, I'm not telling you how to live your life, but consider how you would feel if someone did that to you. Go have fun with the slut." At that point, I looked at Dave with wide eyes and an opened mouth with tears pooling in my eyes. Anng tugged my shirt slightly to ask me what just happened and I signed to her what Dave just told Andrew. She looked at my with wide eyes, then looked to Dave with saddened eyes then back to me and hugged me instantly. I started crying the second she wrapped her arms around me. Dave came up behind me and patted my back gently.
"What did he say?" I asked between sobs.
He looked at me sadly, "He said that the only reason he's not coming is because he doesn't want you to feel awkward with being the 5th wheel because he asked out that slut Hayley in his grade. And he said that he didn't want it to be awkward between you two considering what happened." I wipes away my tears as new ones formed in my eyes. I hated people seeing me like this. I managed to slip away from them and run to the mall, probably a good mile away from the theatre.
I ran and I ran until I was out of breath in the girls bathroom in the food court of the mall. Thankfully, nobody was in there to watch me sob and collapse into myself. I heard Anngie's steadily running footsteps as she rushed towards me. Fortunately, there wasn't a lot of people in at the mall anyway, so Dave walked in hesitatingly behind her.
"There's nobody in here," I yelled from the back of the bathroom. When they finally found me, I calmed down slightly, but I was still sobbing. I notice that Dave had a little bit of blood on his knuckles. I looked at him, questioning it.
"I saw Andy with Hayley," Dave explained. "So I yelled at him for like 5 minutes then he made some snarky remark so I punched him in the nose." He smirked his comforting smirk. I smiled slightly but I didn't feel any better. I still felt like shit and I didn't like it.
*That Monday*
I walked into English and took my normal seat next to Anng. She rubbed my arm comfortingly, but that still didn't make me feel better. I faked a smiled at her. Andrew came in with Hayley and sat down together. Hayley looked back at me with a "I have him wrapped around my finger now" look and wrapped her arm around the back of his head, which caused him to look up at her. He nuzzled his head on top of her chest, and kisses just above the crevice of her breasts. That entire time, she had her chin resting atop of his head, just staring at me with the same stare. I couldn't take it anymore.
"Can I go to the bathroom?" I asked with tears in my eyes.
"The bell just rang," Mr. Higgins said. "You should've gone before then." He must've noticed the tears because he looked at Hayley and Andy, and took the ruler and slapped on Andy's head. "Can it wait?" He asked softly. I shook my head and ran out of the room, but not before Hayley tripped me. Only her and Andy laughed hysterically, while the rest of the class either giggled or threw stuff at Hayley.
"Aw, is the baby stripper gonna cry?" Hayley teased. Anngie stood up, walked over to her and started pulling her hair out. Mr. Higgins helped me up and pulled Anng off of Hayley. I started running towards the bathroom when I ran into this tall fellow. He was 6 inches taller than me. I stood up and quickly apologized.
"Hey, there's no need to apologize," He said in a British accent. I looked up into his greyish-green eyes, and I instantly knew he was trouble, but I couldn't stop myself from staring deeper into his eyes. His blond, shoulder-length hair didn't help either. He smirked and looked away. His smile was beautiful, he then proceeded to snap me out of my trance by saying, "My name's Danny, what's yours?" He stuck out his hand.
"Mu-my na-name's Lacey," I stuttered and shook his hand. He chuckled, which made me smile, blush, and look away.
"Ok, Lacey," He laughed. "How would you like to go on a date with me this Saturday?" I smiled and nodded. What I didn't realise was that he was gonna make my life a living hell on top of the hell my father makes me live at home. That was the question that ended all possible hope for me to actually have more friends if Hayley didn't decide to ruin my life anymore then she did that one weekend.
